And the only way the 787b won Le Mans because Puegots engine failed, Jag was carrying 200KG extra for a penalty the the Mercedes shunted. Never mnd the 787B was allowed to run at 830kg and the rest in class had to run 1000kg cars.

The Speed 8 has been and always will be one of my favorite race cars of all time together with the 787b and the 911 GT1. The 90s and 2000s really produced the best designs that exist.

Esse carro, devido a usar um motor rotativo teve que, por motivos extremamente óbvios, se retirar das corridas. Além disso, ele não ganhou por ser mais rápido. Ele ganhou por ser mais económico e sustentável ao longo das 24h a La Sarthe.

Once you have listened to it for about 10 minutes it gets tedious. I saw it at Goodwood and most liked the sounds of the older cars.

I classify Rotary engines as the automotive equivalent to the 2 stroke bikes

Its odd that it has so many fans these days when spectators found it so annoying in period. Having been at many events in the 80's/90's that the rotaries took part in, the noise soon grated on those watching but then the opposition sounded so much better and had performance to match, unlike the Mazda. Maybe its because current cars are limited in their variety?

For those wondering, why the constant revving, let me explain - these amazing rotary engines, despite what some say, are incredibly efficient at making power. Just think about it, this engine is 2.6 liters or 160 cubic inches. (about half the size of the engine in a Mustang 5.0) It is making over 700 horsepower WITHOUT turbochargers. Thats right these wicked machines were naturally aspirated. Their downfall was two things - one, they were too good. They destroyed the competition using an engine a fraction of the size. Two and probably the most important reason they produce a LOT of emissions, especially when idling. They make the most magic at higher revs. At low revs a lot of unburned fuel is exiting the engine so the spark plugs will get fouled if you let it idle too much - hence the constant revs. Back in the day when I had my 1987 RX7 Turbo 13B, after I installed custom straight exhaust, no mufflers, and no catalytic converters, you literally could not stand near the back of the car while it was idling because your eyes would start to burn and you'd choke on the fumes. Miss that car. I finally killed it. Im sorry.
