This was how I made a friend on Reach back on 360. His name was like SWAGGERBOY or SWAGBOY or something like that. Haven't seen him since like 2016 tho. I hope that he's doing well in life.
The Warthog was my friend and I's bread and butter throughout the entirety of our Legendary (with a bunch of skulls) playthrough of the entirety of the Master Chief collection, I can safely say that sense of comradery was very much alive and well during any hog mission.
There's one skull (I believe it's called Sputnik) that me and my buddy absolutely loved. You probably already know what it does but it changes push force of explosives, making your warthog go flying off in a crazy direction with every small explosion. It was so hilarious, and made those hog missions even more whacky and unpredictable
Don't forget the Warthog runs. What better way to solidify a vehicle's icon-ery (icon-ism? icon-ness?) than to throw said vehicle into a gauntlet of spectacular skill, devastating destruction, and symphonic stakes in the most beloved levels in the entire series? I'm just sayin', there's a reason Halo 2, 4, 5, and Infinite aren't as revered, finale-wise, as CE, 3, and Reach (albeit Reach having other reasons)
Definitely. 3's finale will probably always be my favorite Halo level. I didn't want to include them in this video though both for brevity and for spoiler reasons :)
Honestly, many XBox era Games were great in the regard described in this video. They were fully committed to bringing you the fantasy that it promised on the box and devote all aspects of the game design to it. It was a magical thing called "cutting fluff" that isn't being done anymore. And yet, many games of that era, like Mario Strikers, Halo, Crimson Skies, Ratchet & Clank etc. were more dynamic and FELT more immersive than most modern games.
I've spent so many hours with friends trying to get halos vehicles into sections they were never meant to be. Pushing crates, ramping off each other, grenade launching. All to find that we get a new vehicle in the next section of the level anyway.
Alternatively, the hog serves as a great way to launch yourself somewhere. It's also a great way to pick up chicks. Because that means you don't have to physically carry them anymore. That and there isn't a "carry player button". I guess if you have an IRL warthog, it would also be a great way to pick up chicks. Because who wouldn't want to ride the hog? *bow chick a bow wow*

Halo will always be top tier nostalgia for me. Thing is though, it still holds up. Nostalgia and quality rarely align so strong.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the reason Halo cut so much fluff is because of deadlines (and great designers obv). Interesting take on it!
