I honestly think this is one of the best songs ever written. It has everything. Been listening to it since it first came out and still makes me cry with love and wonderment.
A relentlessly honest song from a band with plenty of it. "Old friends, old lovers, dogs and brothers There's only so much letting go you can ask someone to do"
If you haven't, I cannot recommend their duo album a-sides/b-sides highly enough. From a year or two pre-Big Thief, two guitars and vocal harmonies, some of both of their songwriting. Its absolutely divine. Buck's solo stuff too!
Years, days, makes no difference to me babe You look exactly the same to me Ain't no time, crossing your legs inside the diner Raising your coffee to your lips, the steam You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you Wrapping her left arm around your right Ready to walk you through the night You whisper to a restless ear, "can you get me out of here? This place smells like piss and beer, can you get me out?" You were asking me, how to get you free I only know the recipe to roam You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you Wrapping her left arm around your right Ready to walk you through the night Old stars Filling up my throat You gave em to me when I was born Now they're coming out Laying there on the hospital bed your eyes were narrow, blue and red You took a draw of breath and said to me You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like me Wrapping my left arm round your right Ready to walk you through the night Old friends, old mothers, dogs and brothers There's only so much letting go you can ask someone to do So I keep you by my side, I will not give you to the tide I'll even walk you in my stride, Marie Cause I saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you Wrapping your left arm round my right Ready to walk me through the night
Revisiting this video in light of the new album’s release. The thing that strikes me about Big Thief is how much they enjoy each other while playing. That energy is evident in all their music. They are family.
KEXP is the best. I've learned of so freaking many great artists directly because of them. Big Thief is way up at or near the top. Such honesty, I love them.
The best version of this song I’ve seen. And probably best live in studio performance I’ve seen too. My daughter is seeing them in Northampton next week and I’m super jealous!
I absolutely love this track. They have more talent than almost any band out there and I'm happy to have a rock band back in the rotation. For a long time I've been finding the best rock under the Folk category (Felice Brothers) it is nice to hear legit rocknroll I actually like again.
This band are absolute masters of controlled feedback. The first time I ever saw them (they were a support act; I had never even heard of them) was at the Pabst in Milwaukee, which is a great rock stage. They were going to town on it. Afterward, they were at the merch table and I said, wow you guys really have the feedback under control. Buck said yea, not every stage gives it up like that, but this one is great. Sure was. They were touring Masterpiece. They knocked me out so hard that I have a hard time remembering who the headliner was sometimes-it was m. ward.
Does anybody have a good tab for Buck's solo there? I haven't been able to find one, just Adrienne's chords (f, am, c/g, f x4 - with a couple of variations).
I feel this so much. It seems like an easy one to figure out but it’s so quirky and unique to Buck himself. It just proves that he’s truly a great guitarist; he has a sound that when you hear him play you go “oh yeah that’s Buck”.
I agree, I came to the comments to see if anyone else thought the sound guy effed up and played the boys backing her vocals up (very badly) too loud. It just sounded very out of key, and hurt my ears, I don’t think they could hear themselves. Is all. Because they are fantastic live, and this song is BOMB.
@Caradoc g I disagree with everything in me. But luckily we can have differing opinions and still get along, cos the internet is beautiful like that. Haha, have a great day :)

Every. Single. Time.
you should look up Big Thief's NPR Tiny Desk concert. It's pretty amazing :)
@@juliasharp2857 yes that’s excellent
I love it.
Best band in America and on par with anything else.
A relentlessly honest song from a band with plenty of it.
"Old friends, old lovers, dogs and brothers
There's only so much letting go you can ask someone to do"
Just jotted these words down before scrolling here.
As infinitely lovely as Adrianne's voice is, it adds a whole new depth to Big Thief's sound to hear Buck's.
He sounds like an effeminate hillbilly on this track. I love that. LoL
If you haven't, I cannot recommend their duo album a-sides/b-sides highly enough. From a year or two pre-Big Thief, two guitars and vocal harmonies, some of both of their songwriting. Its absolutely divine. Buck's solo stuff too!
his solo albums are really good, too
Be sure to check out their NPR Tiny Desk. It's awesome!
The round the room pan to smiles @ 2:30 during the little solo. Makes me smile too, everytime
same here
this band LOVES playing with each other
Years, days, makes no difference to me babe
You look exactly the same to me
Ain't no time, crossing your legs inside the diner
Raising your coffee to your lips, the steam
You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you
Wrapping her left arm around your right
Ready to walk you through the night
You whisper to a restless ear, "can you get me out of here?
This place smells like piss and beer, can you get me out?"
You were asking me, how to get you free
I only know the recipe to roam
You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you
Wrapping her left arm around your right
Ready to walk you through the night
Old stars
Filling up my throat
You gave em to me when I was born
Now they're coming out
Laying there on the hospital bed your eyes were narrow, blue and red
You took a draw of breath and said to me
You saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like me
Wrapping my left arm round your right
Ready to walk you through the night
Old friends, old mothers, dogs and brothers
There's only so much letting go you can ask someone to do
So I keep you by my side, I will not give you to the tide
I'll even walk you in my stride, Marie
Cause I saw the masterpiece, she looks a lot like you
Wrapping your left arm round my right
Ready to walk me through the night
came upon these guys at a little festival on the Adriatic in 2019 - love at first song.
When Buck's solo is so darn good you just have to connect butts.
lol
KEXP sound engineers once again do an amazing job.
It’s pure joy to see them playing together

No animals were hurt during this session said the bass player
That's cause hes Chris Pontius of Wildboyz fame.
Each of the members of this band have such potent and unique vibes. It's so lovely to see them having such fun!
They play STRAIGHT from the heart - there's no bullshit with this band.
This band is a masterpiece.
The best version of this song I’ve seen. And probably best live in studio performance I’ve seen too. My daughter is seeing them in Northampton next week and I’m super jealous!
I just have something in my eye
BIG THIEF playing loose and having fun ................... luv it.
Together they are just magical
I absolutely love this track. They have more talent than almost any band out there and I'm happy to have a rock band back in the rotation. For a long time I've been finding the best rock under the Folk category (Felice Brothers) it is nice to hear legit rocknroll I actually like again.
they're saving rock
That solo is all over the map. :)
This is really beautiful.
SUCH a fan after seeing this.
Ohhh! What a voice! what a music! what a band! great! thanks form France!
God they are beautiful
i'm in love with this whole band
They look like they were having so much fun
Loved the feedback in that solo. The amp really a huge part of the sound.

Simply beautiful 😍
I love how they all have their peculiarities
What breath of fresh air this band are. Beautiful song from Beautiful souls. Wonderful to watch.
Anna sounds so vulnerable you know but I'd wager she could still kick most anyone's ass. She is, after all, a black belt in Karate.
They are having a blast, this connects so strongly
So good !!! Wunderbar !!
god i fucking needed this, you know?
Me encantan con todos sus errores
Love to see Adrianne when she is having fun.
They should record a live album.
THEY DID
it be here
Oh my god I love this fucking song
2:49 music is so great when you gotta ask yourself about the intersection of order and chaos
perfect
17,000 total plays??? Can't be - - I swear that I have 10,000 of them.
it’s cause we’re watching the whole version !
heh me too
this is absolute power
Background vocals add that needed depth! Fuckin gold song!
guitar solo was epic
Does anybody have a good tab for Buck's solo there? I haven't been able to find one, just Adrienne's chords (f, am, c/g, f x4 - with a couple of variations).
Que som espetacular!
I cannnot for the life of me figure outthis fucking solo. It's so great but how does he do it

Pretty sure the base player stormed the Capitol.
He did not. Not
😂
because he's antifa
NOT FUNNY!
🧡
