      @AHungryHunky 3 роки тому +2

      That's actually a good point, one of the biggest killers for bodywork in modern cars here in PA is all the "tough looking" plastic cladding they slap on them now. Salt brine gets in behind the plastic when you are driving, or when it rains in winter, or the snow melts or even when you are washing the salt powder off your vehicle and it just sits there. You can't get behind the cladding to wash it out properly so it sits there and eats your paint and metal.

    I suspect the “skitzy” feeling interior trims are made that way for a reason. Specifically waterproof and UV proof. UV can destroy a dash. Go look at GMs from 2010s. Dashes cracking all the time. These were made to leave the top off and be able to handle it. Soft touch materials won’t take that abuse. I have a Wildtrack on order, no build date yet. I enjoy all of your channels. I'm an avid viewer. Personally, I don't care what my dash feels like or what my cup holders are made of. Nobody complains about cheap plastic rear view mirrors or seat belt buckles and you touch that every time you drive your vehicle. If I'm buying a Lincoln Navigator or Jeep Grand Wagoneer then I would expect a more premium feeling interior. Obviously the bronco and wrangler can be optioned out to rather expensive versions but I don't understand why there seems to be so much emphasis on how soft a dash feels or what material the cup holder is made out of. If it's not a high contact surface, why waste your money on premium materials when you are not driving a luxury vehicle? Again, that's my personal opinion.
    Thank you for the great videos you guys make. Keep it up!

  • @colderbeer

    Those hard surfaces throughout the interior were done NOT BECAUSE OF COST CUTTING.......Ford knows that some people are gonna drive these things off-road with no doors and no top, and those interiors are gonna get DUSTY. Credit Ford for designing an interior that can be hosed out and cleaned up with a wet soapy sponge.......keep in mind that the Bronco is not a luxury car.

So, it seems you have to remove the door bolts every time you remove the doors? compared to jeep where many leave the small bolt off. Also, regarding softtop rear entry, I like that setup. not sure how else to do it. • @AHungryHunky
      @AHungryHunky 3 роки тому +1

      The Wrangler has a few advantages at play though I think, it's aftermarket community is much larger and it's easy to modify them with new axles and other parts as a result. It has a better selection of powertrains, including regular old naturally aspirated engine options and even hybrid, believe it or not not everyone wants the extra maintenance of a turbo and might opt for the Wrangler for the simplicity of its V6 or V8 options or maybe wants the ability to save on fuel and opt for the 4Xe. I also think it has a lot of brand recognition behind it, it was voted the most patriotic brand in America, despite half of its lineup being Italian. Clearly people think Jeep and immediately associate it with WWII films and documentaries even if the old GPWs you saw might have been Ford make. The Jeep is also still solid front axle, which means absolutely nothing in the majority of off-road scenarios but we are talking about a people that buy HD trucks capable of towing 15k lbs so they can tow a 8k camping trailer, people like buying "capabilities" without necessarily having the need, for those "just in case" moments or to brag.
      So Bronco has done a lot to improve on what the Wrangler offers, but I still think the Wrangler will outsell it. It's good that ford has come in with such a strong looking contender though and I think a lot of people where bored with the Wrangler being the only game left in town as far as convertible offroaders goes and many people will buy the ford just for something different.

They sacrificed full off-road capability for better road handling characteristics.
      I don't think you fully understand the Wrangler market with the comments you made above. When Jeep people wanted the things you talked up about like -- "spaciousness, modern appointments and superior driving characteristics" they would opt for this vehicle called the Grand Cherokee.
      Next, FCA design boss Ralph Gilles when asked by TFL about if they need to be concerned. His response was what one would expect if you understand the Automotive industry and development times, which was "FORD took the wrangler as the benchmark to build their Bronco. Now this is the norm in the industry. What's important is what he said next and I will paraphrase it:

      @@paulj9821 Ford didn't sacrifice much in off-road when the Bronco is more than capable of going on most trails that the Jeeps go on, and those "extreme" trails that Jeep like to go on are one offs that rarely are done if at all, most people don't off-road their Jeeps, so the Bronco will steal that market immediately, Ford copied their tech ? Ford literally asked Jeep buyers what they wanted in their Jeeps or liked and disliked and improved and changed and advanced on it, not copied or just simply did everything the same nor did they ignore what Jeep buyers are looking for or want, your comment makes no sense in that regard. Ford tech is miles above Jeeps in every category and every aspect. Your argument for how the Jeep still has advantages are all short term things like "bigger market for aftermarket" ? That gets solved even as we speak, "wider selection of powertrains" Honestly the Bronco powertrain is limited but even than it still beats the Jeep in it's respective place, and the overall majority is not gonna buy a v8 Jeep that costs that price. It's not even a good enough reason to say it has a big advantage or why people would prefer a Jeep over a Bronco. Also talking about brand recognition, have you been living under a rock or have you not noticed that literally everyone is talking about the new Bronco lately or looking out for it ? Heck Ford is in fact known as the most experienced company in off-roading and their vehicles when it comes to the big three, Ford has a big brand recognition, sure maybe not in the specific context of the way the Jeep is, but i doubt that actually is again and advantage, or honestly we have a different thought process and definition of real advantage, you gave a good one at first which was the SFA which is an advantage in certain areas for the Jeep, but also a disadvantage in others, same for the Bronco with it IFS. That's a real advantage vs disadvantage, the rest here are just, it's probably more popular and has more going for it so it's still a better competitor, those things do not last, they are constantly changing especially now.

    Let me preface this by saying I'm a Jeep fan. They are fun, very capable vehicles. That being said, Ford hit a home run with this Bronco! I also think they were smart to go with the independent, front suspension.
    Whatever limitations the Bronco might have in extreme off-roading (limitations that maybe 1% of people that drive these vehicles would even experience) by not having a solid, front axle, it more then makes up for in steering and on-road/off-road comfort.
    I rode extensively in the new Badlands Bronco with Sasquatch in Moab during the Jeel Safari weekend, and I can tell you the Bronco rides WAY better than a Wrangler. The twin-turbocharged V6 has instantaneous power (with this newish tech that keeps the turbos spooled), the off-roading camera system is really cool for finding approach angles, the sway bar connects/disconnects flawlessly on the go, and the trail turn feature is really innovative.
    Pro Baja driver Johnny Campbell took us in Baja mode 45 mph on the gnarliest, washboard roads, and you wouldn't believe how the Bronco's suspension absorbed it all. I was so impressed. I can tell you that the trail-turn feature works pretty well for spinning doughnuts in sand dunes as well ;) Living in Utah, I use these kinds of vehicles off-roading a lot, but I still want on-road comfort, and I think most of us do. The Bronco is comfortable for daily driving, and it has all of the off-road capability 99% of drivers will need. It's roomier, it has a better interior, it looks great on the outside (as does the Wrangler), and it's SERIOUS competition. I bet you would need to drop at least $10,000 in a Wrangler Rubicon to bring it to the level of performance you get with a Badlands model with Sasquatch stock.
    This is going to lead to Jeep upping their game big time (which I'm sure they will), but in the meantime (and in my opinion) the Bronco is the clear winner here.

    I'm loving the Bronco coverage from you guys! It's easier to figure out the model differences from your videos than on Ford's actual website. Ford needs to put gas struts on the soft top raising thing in the back. And they will need to do a Raptor like edition with a V-8 for the truly rich (I'm sure it'll happen). I also wish Ford would put the MOLLE paneling on the back of all front seats (Jeep doesn't do this either). Some things that are only available on higher end models should be more standard. I'm a fan of the base model 2-door Bronco with a Sasquatch package. I want a daily driver that will do what I want it to do off-road and has the "no carpet" option. Rough and tough.
    Pretty neat that the rock sliders mount to the frame. With Jeep they mount to the body. Better than not having any protection there at all, but not as good as frame mounted.
    Chance that Jeep offers a factory 35" on the Rubicon for 2022 year model: 100%. Honestly they need to put the higher Rubicon fenders on all models and let people order a Sport with a 35" tire package. And 4.10 gears across all models. They also need to up the touchscreen to 8" base model, 9 or 10 for the upgrade.
    They've definitely looked at everything the Wrangler does and said "how can we do it better?" Now it's time for Jeep to do the same thing for future models.

      I like when they originally said the doors come off it better then a Wrangler because it only has 2 bolts. Well this doesn't look better at all. We had a JL and its just as easy as any other Jeep. It has 3 bolts but just like a YJ or TJ once you take the hinge bolts off I never put them back on since I intend on taking them off often. Only difference from a YJ or TJ is it has a door check bolt. So in the end its just 1 bolt and the wiring/door strap. They weight around the same as the old Jeeps. I think these Broncos that have the doors taken off off often are going to end up getting pretty beat up on the front edge.
