I choose NONE of them... I rather buy a used Toyota Landcruiser FJ Cruiser...that will outlast the Wrangler or Bronco.... reliability is key to survival when you are outbacking, offloading, or off landing in the wilderness or out in the desert far from civilization.....the Wrangler is plagued with countless numbers of electrical as well as mechanical problems......it's ranked on the bottom rung of the reliability ladder....Consumer Report gave the Jeep Wrangler a big-solid-black DOT for having the worst reliability.....Jeep as a brand is horrible with terrible resale value and horrendous depreciating in value...... a used Toyota Landcruiser FJ Cruiser still go for $35,000-$40,000 in excellent condition and low mileage, and the price is already starting to go up due to demand from serious offroaders and offlanders...

I have a 96' Bronco with 250,000mi. on it that has been through hell and back. When Jeep unveiled the newest version of the Wrangler I decided it was time to retire the ol' Bronco and pick up a new offroad/camping rig. I ended up purchasing a 2018 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited and ended up regretting that decision. I had that damn Jeep in for warranty repairs 3 times in the first year of owning it, not to mention the problems I had that the dealership claimed they couldn't replicate. Issues with the Sway Bar disconnect, Lockers non engaging, Alignment and Vibration issues, a mystery rattle ect... Suffice to say the Jeep has been sold and I ended up taking a massive loss. My old Bronco has since been brought out of retirement and I have been bashing it around local trails without issue ever since. I would definitely take a the new Bronco over a Jeep but I really hope Ford brings some of the old school Bronco reliability and toughness to with it.

We own a '19 JLU Wrangler Sahara, and while we have the top and doors off all summer here in So Cal, we have never once put the windshield down. The Sport comes in at a lower price than the Bronco Base, but to get AC you have to go Sport S which starts at $33,235 w/ destination. Add the $1295 hard top (comes standard on the Bronco). In order to get a more comparably-sized screen (7") you have to spec the tech group, and now you're at $35,525.
My son loves his Jeep, but when our other SUV ('11 Pathfinder 4x4) dies we will definitely look at the Bronco 4-door and the new Defender.

I would remove the back seats no matter which vehicle I bought. My style of four wheeling doesn't involve rock gardens or desert racing, so the predictable crawl rate you get with the manual is a primary consideration. As you illustrated, the Bronco is the clear winner. I would get the Black Diamond. Upgrade to the marine grade seats/rubberized flooring, 477 gears (for 33" tires), and factory installed 2" lift. Ultimately I'd probably opt for the four dr because of a better overlanding fit, but I'd always want the two dr. That Bronco looks amazing!

If you're looking to off-road you're going to be in a Rubicon or Sasquatch, so the comparison is sort of pointless. Unless...you're going to be going with a base and doing extensive upgrades yourself. In that case the Bronco is still a clear victor. The Jeep's clearance advantage vanishes when you replace the Bronco's stock 16" wheels. And who cares about fold-down windshields? And the contrived "top-down experience"? While a soft top is absolutely appealing, Ford or the aftermarket will provide one of those for way cheaper than adding a hardtop for a Jeep. This was dubious manipulation to make the test seem close. Bottom line is that the only way a Jeep makes sense is for those who really need to save a couple inches in length and width and spend their days hardcore, solid-axle rock crawling, without needing to haul much with them or care how comfortable they are getting there.

    • @AdviceFromYourDad

Not to mention how much more civilized a Bronco will be on-road the 95% of the time you use it. Front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering will make it a much better daily driver. That extra wheelbase and length make it a better-riding vehicle with more room. There's a reason why Jeep's 4-door is way, way out-selling the 2-door. The 2-door is just smaller than all but the most hardcore owners want.

The bronco may be a bit longer. It's actually an advantage. It's not too long that it'll get hung up in most places the jeep can go. It makes it a better hill climber and will give it more room to work with while going over specific terrain. Also, it's only a half inch wider. Point goes to the bronco for a wider range of terrain it can conquer in it's 2 door base form. The bronco is IFS. An H3 can out turn ANY straight axle jeep product. What makes you think the bronco will be any different? But if you're looking for a true overlander (rough terrain but long trips), the bronco is your best bet. But if you're looking to build a wheeler/crawler. Get a Jeep. You're also less likely to take on door damage in a Jeep Wrangler. Simply by it's design. There are advantages to both. Just a quick comment to provide some clarification on the removal and storage of the doors on the Bronco 2-door model. As it stands currently, only the 4-door model has the ability to store the doors in the rear storage area. Unless Ford makes a major change to the design of the 2-door model prior to rollout, it will not have this available storage for the 2-door model as the doors on the 2-door are wider than those on the 4-door. You can still certainly leave them in camp or at home, but unfortunately removing and safely storing the doors on the trail will not be an option.
