@@MrsTold Cloudy Night is right, but the game itself also makes it clear. When you first go to Whiterun to speak to Balgruuf, he decides to send hold guards to protect Riverwood. There is an argument about that decision because his steward thinks that putting troops in a border town might be viewed by the jarl of Falkreath as a provocation. Also, there is an Imperial presence in Helgen, but Whiterun is neutral in the early part of the story and there is no Imperial garrison anywhere in Whiterun hold. If Helgen were part of Whiterun, Balgruuf would certainly not have let the Imperials occupy the fortifications there at that time. Nor would the Imperials have done so against his will, since they were still trying to persuade Balgruuf to join them willingly and such an act would have antagonized him.
Hey Nate, I really love your content. Whenever I feel frustrated playing Skyrim and want to stop playing, I watch your videos and feel interested all over again. Your videos are entertaining and fun. It's really helping me get through this corona virus lock down time by keeping me entertained and engaged. So big thanks to you and keep up the good work!
I have a suggestion for tiny details, which I just discovered. In Whiterun in the Drunken Huntsman you can sell Elrindir your food, weapons and clothes, but you can actually also sell him potions. Well, I say potions. When you go to the potion slot and you happen to carry skooma with you, you can sell him potions, but only your skooma. Everything else won't be shown there, except the moonsuggary drug. He seems to be a Mer with a little dirty secret 😏. I thought this might be interesting :)
Well, when the player and Serana walk around Castle Volkihar during a quest to find the back entrance, Serana explains that the previous owners used to receive supplies through there. So, the castle wasn't always Harkon's place, meaning his family and clan could easily have come from Bloodlet Throne in Falkreath. Also, as far as I recall, if you play the basegame without Dawnguard and Dragonborn installed, the stronger vampires in Bloodlet Throne are in fact named Volkihar vampires. So, there you have it. Harkon's old hangout :)
@@RazorO2Productions I know. I've used them. I meant that I wish Bethesda had made the effort from the start to make the cities a bit better. Give a Heartland influences feel to Falkreath. Falkreath is one of those small towns that I find to be the most relaxing, with Riverwood being a hard second. Its nested in a wooded area, with a small stream running nearby, lots of trees, etc. Sure it aint the safest, but damn is it scenic
Yay! This is the one I was waiting for! I like Falkreath, it kinda felt like a getaway place where I could go to get away from all the dragonborn responsibilitys and civil war fights.
Anyone know the name of that tune that Nate used to use as an outro in his videos? PS. I miss those outros. Allways makes me smile when I am listening to the classics
Actually, I would say that the stranger mentioned in the journal is *definitely* the Dragonborn. Typically the first time you meet him (at least, this is how it's always gone for me) is when Thadgeir asks you to deliver Berit's ashes to Runil, and when you find him he's conducting the funeral that starts Ill Met by Moonlight. It also bears some similarity to Kodlak's dream, wherein he also sees the Dragonborn in a dream shortly before actually meeting them.
I fell in love with Falkreath very early on in my first ever experience with Skyrim. I'd never played an open-world game like Skyrim before, and when I finished the tutorial and was cast out to fend for myself, I had no idea what I was doing…nor did I notice the compass at the top of the screen. As such, I quickly got lost, and eventually wound up in Falkreath. There, people talked about how the sun shines so rarely in the town - and as someone who HATES sunlight IRL (it just feels unpleasant on my skin, I know I'm a freak but it's just how I am), I liked the place immediately. I then tried to leave Falkreath proper, still not noticing the compass, and somehow ended up doubling back to it at least three times. At one point during that doubling-back, I ran into my ultimate Skyrim husbando, Talsgar the Wanderer - if my username doesn't indicate enough why I was immediately drawn to the character (it's been my username since before I tried Skyrim), I also love music, and of course, the wanderer is a bard. For these reasons, Falkreath is permanently my favorite part of Skyrim. I went SO far out of my way to become a thane in Falkreath so I could live there, and when the vanilla game didn't let me get a house in the hold, I was devastated. Luckily, I'd gotten the ultimate edition with the DLC included, and after some digging, I discovered this and was over the moon, immediately installing the DLCs and happily setting to building an estate for myself by the lake. To this day, no matter what properties I may accrue in Skyrim, Lakeview Manor in Falkreath will always and forever be my only true home in the nation. Funny that it's where the Dark Brotherhood are housed…for my good guy playthrough, I was heartbroken that my home was also home to such monsters, and glad to rid the place of them; and for my asshole playthrough, it's nice that my favorite guild is also stationed in the place I call home. XD
Just so you know for future videos. The 3rd Empire ended after Martin’s sacrifice & the assassination of the Potentate. The Empire in Skyrim is the 4th Cyrodillic Empire, ruled by the Mede Dynasty.
@@IndependentOreo " >only needs to preform a novice fire spell to join mage college >breeze thru questline knowing least amount of magic possible. >becomes archmage.
And Kodlak as well - I have a feeling since we're such a vitally important figure to defeat Alduin, anyone even slightly sensitive is having prophetic dreams telling them that help is on its way.
well, you can ask him to wait at the cave once you get there, you can get the axe and finish the quest alone. yeah I only found out/tried that after more the an thousand hours of game.
I really love how you did this video, especially with the tale of Tiber Septim and Falkreath. It was cool to see the Imperial City and interpretations of the characters!
There's I'd like to share that could reveal more about the Volkihars. In Volkihar ruins in one room on a tall shelf I found a silver sword. I checked around the ruins for more, but this is the only silver sword in the entire castle. No vampire would use this weapon, it specifically made for fighting undead. I believe it's possible the clan had some conflict with the Silver Hand(or a similar group), in which this single sword was taken as a trophy by one of the vampires.
There's evidences pointing to Harkon's family becoming vampires as early as the Merethic Era or the early 1st Era, before any human Empire existed. Serana specifically questions "what Empire" when you awaken her. They are quite likely older than the Bloodlet Throne and unlikely to be related to the Jarl of Falkreath.
Remember what Runil says about performing services before being approached by someone that can roar. It's literally what you do if you pick up the ashes from Thadgeir usually cutting wood at the entrance of Falkreath. He says Runil needs to perform some last rights for Berit's soul. Then you saunter over to Runil who is - if you are meeting him for the first time - giving a sermon to Mathies and his wife, which I presume is for their daughter that was killed by Sinding. So he is actively involved in two services when you approach hiim. I presume this is what he is experiencing in the dream.
And they say there are allot of them, but seeing as it seems to be a war cemetery for generations of wars, it seems small. Even for Skyrim population and size problems compared to lore.
So many graves. From the hold's grave, to ancient graves. I didnt want to sent my children there when I was done building my house. I sent them to Solitude instead.
Honestly I really hope in Elder Scrolls 6 they make the cities actual cities not a collection of 5 buildings, and 4 people. The lack of actual cities bugged me even in 2011.

Bilegulch mine is a former orc stronghold I think. As it the other one I think. Everytime I've gone there it's only been orc mercenaries or orc bandits. The architecture is so similar to the strongholds it's hard to deny.
Nate, I have two small details I havent seen covered in a video yet! 1st, there’s a Nord NPC in Whiterun named Sigurd who works for Belethor’s store, spending time chopping wood outside of it near the market. This is the very same name as the legendary Dragon Slayer in Norse mythology who killed the immortal dragon Fafnir. Considering the setting of Skyrim, it’s nice to think that there could be another great hero in the making. 2nd, this is more of a glitch I discovered 5 years ago while playing Skyrim. But for the Whirlwind Sprint and Fire Breath shout, you can basically learn two words of power in High Hrothgar and the Throat of the World. Paarthunax and he Greybeards give you the starting words to the two indicated shouts. But if you have some spare Dragon Souls, you can pull a little trick. After they show you the word, you have a few seconds before they give you their understanding of it. In this time, use the Dragon Souls to unlock the shouts. They will still give you their understanding of it, but they will instead teach you the next word. So you basically get two words of power for free and a more powerful shout than you would expect from the start of the game. Edit: Make that 3, just learned this one a minute ago. After Diplomatic Immunity, Delphine directs you to Brynjolf in order to find Esbern. This is often how most people first get to Riften and meet the Thieves Guild. But if you’re already in the Thieves Guild, there’s a slight change in Delphine’s dialogue and she tells you to ask around the Ragged Flaggon instead.
In the Falkreath prison cells where you start that Werewolf Quest, Noticed an awful lot of Moon Light and maybe that's another clue. If a Vampire were in that cell ye only shall wait for the break of dawn and with wet floors, The ashes of those afflicted rejoins into the elements of Mundus. Just an observation due to the odd nature and shape of that cell. Keep up the good work and always love tuning in, So have a great day/night Nate. 🎉🎮🎊

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Skyrim theme as much as the next guy, but I think including other songs in your videos from the same soundtrack, even playing more of those songs through your videos, would be really cool too!
Time to rp a skooma dealer lol
Well, when the player and Serana walk around Castle Volkihar during a quest to find the back entrance, Serana explains that the previous owners used to receive supplies through there. So, the castle wasn't always Harkon's place, meaning his family and clan could easily have come from Bloodlet Throne in Falkreath. Also, as far as I recall, if you play the basegame without Dawnguard and Dragonborn installed, the stronger vampires in Bloodlet Throne are in fact named Volkihar vampires. So, there you have it. Harkon's old hangout :)
Always wished they'd made Falkreath's "palace" a little more like a Imperial fort with maybe a statue of the first Third Era Emperor outside it.

@@RazorO2Productions I know. I've used them. I meant that I wish Bethesda had made the effort from the start to make the cities a bit better. Give a Heartland influences feel to Falkreath. A mixed Redguard and Breton flavor towards Markarth. That sort of thing where it would be keeping with traditions of the province.

His face turned dark because Nate ran out of texture memory.
My favorite Hold in the game.
Why does that Mod make an Altmer look like leather???
That's a "dark face bug", happens when textures from many mods conflict in some way (AKA: Probable bad installing).
The dark face bug is when two or more mods conflict on the same characters appearance and it glitches their face. It’s most common with the companions

I’ve been playing Skyrim for about five or six years now, and I’ve got the game on four different consoles. PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Switch. I enjoy every second I spend in the game and all of the extra information I’ve got from these videos makes it even more fun than I thought possible.
Falkreath is one of those small towns that I find to be the most relaxing, with Riverwood being a hard second. Its nested in a wooded area, with a small stream running nearby, lots of trees, etc. Sure it aint the safest, but damn is it scenic
0:45 I love how there's just a random Khajit at a certain point in every video
Yay! This is the one I was waiting for! I like Falkreath, it kinda felt like a getaway place where I could go to get away from all the dragonborn responsibilitys and civil war fights.
let's be honest Falkreath and several the other minor holds are very underwhelming without mods.
Morthal wants you to know that words can hurt 😔✌️
I want Morthal to know without the spooky ookie vampire quest it’s boring
Any good mods for them?
The Empire in Skyrim is the 4th Cyrodillic Empire, ruled by the Mede Dynasty.
even then the 4th wasnt established for like another 50 years
Exactly
Seriously, with Visual and lighting mods, Falkreth is fricking BEAUTIFUL and I love shopping, smithing, questing and everything else in that hold.

I hate Falkreath for one reason... That damn dog I have to find EVERY play through...
Spoiler alert!: Its not a usual dog

But if you never get rid of him he’ll never die and kill all the enemies
Even though he’s soooooo fkn annoying
well, you can ask him to wait at the cave once you get there, you can get the axe and finish the quest alone. yeah I only found out/tried that after more the an thousand hours of game.
Tenebris Vega Thank You! I can finally avoid him
Runil's journal was one of the only journals I ever read because I was so curious at what a simple priest would write in a journal
Just a random thought but a giant crypt under falkreath would’ve been a 🔥 dungeon
I had a look at cracked tusk keep in the creation kit and it turns out it's also called Gularz Khazgur Keep
Maybe Gularz Khazgur was planned to be a full on Orc Stronghold but it was scrapped at the last minute?
I really love how you did this video, especially with the tale of Tiber Septim and Falkreath. It was cool to see the Imperial City and interpretations of the characters!
“Falkreath is a minor city in Skyrim.”
Barbas and the Dark Brotherhood: *are we a joke to you*
There's I'd like to share that could reveal more about the Volkihars.
The only thing I remember about Falkreath are the graves...
And they say there are allot of them, but seeing as it seems to be a war cemetery for generations of wars, it seems small. Even for Skyrim population and size problems compared to lore.
Napoleon Bonaparte I fight vampires from the old man in Falkreath
So many graves. From the hold's grave, to ancient graves.
I didnt want to sent my children there when I was done building my house. I sent them to Solitude instead.
there were like 3 gravestones lol
It’s amazing that this game is 9 years old and people still make videos about it :)
Honestly I really hope in Elder Scrolls 6 they make the cities actual cities not a collection of 5 buildings, and 4 people. The lack of actual cities bugged me even in 2011.
Same, especially since this came after oblivion
last time I enjoyed hating the companies games was morrowind. Can't complain about a hard to find inn in the town if the only two are right there in the open. 1h of searching the town for your first quest target there is long gone saddly
Bilegulch mine is a former orc stronghold I think. As it the other one I think. Everytime I've gone there it's only been orc mercenaries or orc bandits. The architecture is so similar to the strongholds it's hard to deny.
Also, with the largest graveyard in Skyrim, people are just dying to get in there.
But they aren't as dead as that joke. I am known for bad jokes, but I wouldn't touch that one.

If you love great roleplaying and storytelling, there are two guys you don't want to miss.
Gopher, who has done Let's Play's of Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 3. He plays some other games as well, and also has a channel called Gopher Live, where he posts livestreams of himself and friends playing various games.

For Skyrim, you can't go wrong with The Passage, about a veteran Altmer being forced to be an agent for the Thalmor against his will.
Stu also has a website and podcast called Character Crusade where he and others discuss roleplaying and storytelling in games like Skyrim, and how you can do it better and more effectively in your game.
