- Here is a full how-to video on how I installed ROX speed fx 2in risers and ProTaper contour handlebars on my 2014 Yamaha TW200. It also includes all the modifications I had to do to make it happen. Definitely, the best mod I have done so far, makes the TW feel like a completely different bike!
hope this video is helpful! let me know if you have any questions. thanks for watching!

Okay so am I on crack or is $112 more than a little crazy for a cable?? Did they go up in price since you bought yours, or were they always that expensive?
The link for the handle bars doesn’t work, just got a tdub and your videos are a huge help
Thank you. Appreciate it. Now I have to get er done😂
Finally a young buck that's not a hack master. There are three ways to fix things. 1- Total hack job, 2- fixed but easy to tell something has been done (usually orange silicone everywhere) and 3 - Fixed like OEM and nobody will ever know. You do nice work.
it's always a good feeling when you do it the right way even though it takes a lot longer, thanks man!
Dude, just threw on some rok 2" risers and man... you weren't kidding. Feels like a whole different bike! This video helped a ton
nice! yeah I will never go back
This is probably the best how-to for this on the internet. Thank you. Great to see some ingenuity! I will probably just stick with 1inch risers on my DR 650 to avoid having to try what you just did!
hey thanks! glad to hear it was helpful, no problem. yeah it's a lot more work to do all that. 1 in shouldn't cause any issues
I'm on the TDubsKid Highway - starting at the 1st vid and going full #bingemode. haha Love your stuff and sense of humor - keep being yourself!
haha awesome, hope you enjoy the videos 😃 thanks!
I'm going to buy a TW just because of your videos! Thanks, I think......
nice hahaha
I did 😆
I literally did the same thing! Love mine!
I bought an 04 T-Dub just because of the T-Dub kid 👍😁😁
I'm watching this 2 years later, no longer a Tdub owner, but I miss the bike and am a sucker for well done How To videos. I don't know why you don't get more "likes" - probably folks are so stoked at how easy you make this look they just run out and start working on the bike, totally forgetting to hit that thumbs up. Oh well. You do GREAT WORK! I'm gonna go watch and like some more of your videos...
haha thanks man, that means a lot! haha that's all good with me as long as it's helpful for people. much appreciated 😃
Really appreciate this video! I've heard both sides about the cables, but I am glad you took the time to extend the wiring, focus on the brake line and the clutch cable mod was great! Excellent filming and editing as well!
no problem! yeah I really like to pay attention to detail, don't feel right if I try to rush through things. much appreciated :)
I put risers on my 450 because I ride standing so much. there's always so much vibration and my forearms always go numb, so I bought the flex bars and they made so much difference. I can ride all day now. great video, so in depth
nice! I know ill be standing more than I use too for sure sooo much more comfortable, nice I think I saw those bars your talking about seems like a really cool idea
Just ordered the same bars in gold. This video (and seeing them in action in your other videos) is a big part of what sold me on them. ProTaper should be paying you!
nice! and it was definitely one of my favorite mods, haha i'm trying to figure out a better clutch cable solution though
TDubsKid I'm hoping I'll be able to re route the stock cables. I'll be using a 3" riser so I'm definitely gonna be pushing it but I'll let you know how it goes
gottcha hope it works out for you, let me know how it goes
Dude.... It is greatly understated and under appreciated skill to be the Master of ones machine. You, Young Buck, are clearly competent and knowledgeable of that motorcycle. You continue to impress upon me with every video I watch. Admirable.
thank you! I greatly I appreciate it 😀
Great video (like always)! I run the pro taper high adventure bars on my XT225 because it gives more room to add accessories like phone holders and such. Great bars to check out as well. Keep the outstanding content coming. Love your channel.
thanks! very nice there are so many bars to choose from did you use risers too or were the bars good enough? i'm super happy to get rid of the cross bar since it seemed to get in the way of everything, thanks again brother! will keep em coming :)
Found your channel from Nomadic Fanatic and I love it. Good work bro!
3cheers hey thanks! Rv and tw has gotta be the life haha!
Get a set of flush cut side cutters for zip ties. Cutting them the way you did leaves little plastic razors that just love to rip up your hands.
not a bad idea. you could also just file them down. they do get really sharp
Blown away by this video!! Enjoy your new setup☺
glad you enjoyed it! thanks, so happy I finally upgraded the bars
That was a top job on the bar risers very professional good to see you took the time to do it right
thanks man! yeah always better to do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again
Great video! It also convinces me that I'll take mine to our LBS to have the work done, along with installing a different set of sprockets to get a little more speed without maxxing out the RPMs. I don't need the tractor gears since I use Willow for a true ADV machine on the miles of dirt forest roads around here. We're almost next door to the Washington BDR, but I need to get on the 60mph highway to get on it. Since it's Washington, everybody drives 10mph over the speed limit.
thanks! for sure. best to have the job done well, yeah, best to customize it for your type of riding, yeah everyone drives like that here too. I can get a lot of places here with 55mph, not the fun part though
Wow dude! That was quite the job. Lots more work that I would have thought, but sometimes that is part of the fun. Thanks for the shootout as well!
thanks man! yeah it was way more work than I expected too but I love the way it turned out. no problem!
*shout-out I meant LOL.. Yeah that is a nice setup!
You've got some talent man. Video editing is amazing and your attention to detail is awesome. The TW is a great bike, out of the 4 bikes I've had this one is pretty fun. Keep it up!
hey thanks man! that's for sure I love the tw, such a fun bike indeed. happy riding!
Love watching all your videos. Thanks for another great tutorial!
awesome glad to hear! and no problem :)
Dude, once again, great vid. Fun and full of information. Looking forward to your next video. Cheerio
thanks! awesome next mod vid will be highway dirtbike handguards with mirrors :)
I have been riding 40 years and working on bikes I enjoyed your tips good job
very nice! glad you enjoyed it!
Worth every penny. Al my bikes have them. Great install video!
for sure! I can't believe I didn't do it earlier haha thanks
Good quality work! The steering is effected by the risers because of geometry. If you rotate them forward your steering will seem faster, tilt it back for slower. You make some great videos, safe travels.
ohh cool didn't know that, it made a huge difference, i'm definitely glad I got the movable style risers. thank you!
Nicely done, TWK ! Now I understand why dealerships charge what they do for a seemingly-simple handlebar swap. Ride On !
yeah they can be a bit involved, takes some customization
Great video man! Very informational and entertaining!
thanks man!
Awesome work, keep great vids coming!
hey thanks! ill keep em rolling :)
Great tutorial by the way man this was super thorough
thanks man! a bit longer than I wanted it to be but I like to include a lot of details on the how too vids
Great job, kudos to your ambition!
hey thanks!
What a wonderful and interesting video to watch! And I don't even own a TW, or any dirt bike for that matter, only sport bikes, but the way you content your videos and storie, it's fun to watch. Junior, you're going a long way, it's easy to see that, you are going to be very known one day, soon. 😉
glad you enjoyed it! haha not too common to see people raise bars on sport bikes. I saw this one guy do it a while back, he wanted to make it more comfortable. thanks, I really appreciate that 🙂
As always you have a video up of exactly what I'm about to do 😂👍
nice! glad to hear they come in handy 😆
That's why I put everything on first then take measurements then take off and do adjustments or Cuts or whatever and then put it all back together you're doing a great job though keep it up
Yeah takes more time but better results! Thanks
Super video, you have all the tools to do the job. I don't have a tw right now but im planning to buy one. It is little bit hard in our economy. Glad you are having fun. Subbed.
thank you! yeah having the right tools is half the battle, oh gottcha well hope you can get a good deal on a used one, you can usually find a low mile newer one for like half the price of new if you keep an eye out. thanks :)
In our country they don't sell brand new, im currently riding a little 100cc bike called bajaj platina which do 80 km per litre. Be safe on the road bro. Good luck.
ohh gottcha, nice ride safe as well and have fun!
This is an excellent video. You did a huge amount of work!
thank you!
Definitely going to get new bars now!!!
It was sooo worth it, it's like a completely different bike
Man I really appreciate your videos, good stuff!
Glad you enjoy thanks for watching
First thing I did when i got my Tdub was put 30mm risers on. Its a must.
Yeah I love the higher bars
Fantastic tutorial, subscribed!
hey thanks! glad it was helpful!
Very good work... Your bike is beautiful
Take care
Medel
thanks friend!
Good job Young man ,you give me hope ,you're a great resource.
thanks! glad to help 😀
Great video. Just picked up a 2018 xt250 today, a little gutless compared to my DR650 but so much more fun to ride.
nice! the xt250 is sweet, I could see how it would be a lot more nimble but the dr650 is a cool bike!
Any TW owner not subscribed is losing out! Great quality, content and presentation. A gem find! Are there used model years to stay away from or would present reliability issues? Thanks
haha thank you! not really that I know of they are pretty much all the same, they started putting a front disk brake and a few other small changes starting in 2001
Thanks for the useful video. Although for many they want their bars as wide as possible please note that if you cut an inch off each bar end everything will fit well with zero modifications. Bars still feel great a bit narrower too in my opinion.
yeah I wasn't really seeing any extra room, maybe because of the street controls?
@@TDubsKid I did use the pro taper ATV high bars (no risers) so perhaps my set up is a bit different
great video. just got a tw200 yesterday, already want to do this.
Edit: nevermind, this looks too complicated for me.
thanks and yeah it's a bit of work, check out the other guys video I left in the description the risers he got for the stock handle bars didn't need any customization
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Just wanted to let ya know about the vessel 980 impacta JIS screwdriver. US phillips and Japanese JIS screws are not the same at all. Check out the JIS #2 driver. You'll never strip another phillips screw on a Japanese bike again. Everyone that's worked on Carb bowl on a bike has stripped a bowl screw. Never again with one of these. Might be a great idea for a video. I have some links on my channel if you have trouble finding them. Hope it helps buddy.
thanks! your right. I picked some up recently. for sure will talk about it when I need to use one in a vid. much appreciated!
Clean and neat install!!!I always wondered what the grip donuts are for?
thanks! yeah just to keep your thumb from rubbing and getting sore I guess
Unless I am mistaken, those aren't Philips, but the awfully similar looking JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws. They are on my circa 1984 Honda, and since the TW 200 is almost unchanged since '87, I think it would be true here as well. Recommend a JIS screwdriver set from Amazon, will dig in deeper and work smoother. I learned this the hard way.
yeah that's correct, I should get some, Philips can work if your careful but easy to round out
Great video. Quite a bit of work but nice result. Thanks TDK.
thanks! yeah it was a bit involved but worth it. no problem
Great informative video. ..excellent! Steve
Thanks Steve!
Great video! You should buy a Vessel screwdriver. It’s JIS spec which will fit those screws properly. They are on Amazon and make one that has interchangeable bits.
thanks! ill have to check that out. I got to get some JIS drivers
thanksss love this video!!!!
no problem glad it was helpful :)
nice mod man i will have to do it to my 2019!
thank you! it was well worth it
great video
thanks!
No offense I was worried I would be to small for the tdub but I'm 5foot10
And your 5foot4 so now I know I will have no problem on the two thx man love your videos
haha yeah it's a short bike, no problem at all, no problem thanks for watching!
That, young Sir, was an extremely well presented, well thought out, well considered, and usefully edifying tutorial.
Absolutely blinking marvellous. A bit of fun too with the "TRex Kid" dub !!
Does anyone know if it's ever possible to get (or make) an actual harness extender, you know, with the appropriate Fe/male connector blocks already fitted on, say, a 150mm length of cable(s), ready to just plug in and go?
Kind Regards.
hey thank you so much! and I'm not aware of anyone selling that, but it would be cool if they did so you didn't have to cut them if only If I could find the connectors and pins they would be easy to make
@@TDubsKid Hey TDubsKid, just watching this again, and it struck me that my "Easy Peasy DIY torque Wrench" vid might help anyone out with those inaccessible fasteners where you can't get a torque wrench to (like under the bar risers). Check it out and see if you think it might have potential, at least as a back stop on anyone's peace of mind. Kind regards.
I know it's been a while but do you have the part number for the longer clutch cable, I can't get the link to work
And as always thanks for the best videos and research!
yeah that one is no longer available, I found another that says 43" and the one I put on is 42" not sure if it will work the same though, I ordered it to see, www.ebay.com/itm/Clutch-Cable-for-Yamaha-YZ125-BW200-TW200-WR250X/222310082272?fits=Make%3AYamaha&hash=item33c2b6a6e0:g:GDYAAOSwy79f27Hk
Your the best, thanks!
pretty damn good video, literally a clip for every step he narrated
Thank you!
good ish bro bro
Thanks sir bro
really love your editing style! I would love to do a collab at one point!
thanks! maybe at some point
@tdubskid thanks for other reply on tires, now question on handle bars. If I go with pro taper bars with no riser just standard height clamps will I need to do any adjustments on cable and positioning ect? Do bars taper down to 7/8”? Just wondering for ordering grips and same hand guards with mirror you installed. Keep up the excellent videos great help to us tdub owners new and old 👍🏻🍻
Depends on which bars you get there are many bends. The 1-1/8 bars go to 8/8 where the grips go. Highway dirt bikes only sells them for 1-1/8 bars now. I’ll keep them coming. Good to hear!
Hey, enjoy all your videos! I just put Pro Taper ATV High bars on my bike. It's about 2 in higher than stock. So I went ahead and got the clutch cable from Ebay. Question -- how did you get that heat shield spring on the new cable?!? I've been messing with this for an hour and don't see a good solution. Thanks! Steve
hey there! so glad to hear, nice that's great, no need for risers haha, oh yeah I cut off the ends of the spring where they are all bunched up then twisted it on, I should have shown that in more detail in the video
i ordered my first motorcycle because of these videos. tw200 of course. i was thinking of doing the same thing because im rather tall but after watching this... i may wait until the warranty expires. :(
oh nice! yeah it's a bit tricky, I think with the basic shorter risers you can get away without much modification
Will the stock switches and all fit on a 1 and 1/8 inch bar or will I need spacers? I ordered a bar that doesn't taper to 7/8s
Alright. Wazzup dude. Im watching now. Handle bar is good
hey there, 👋 😀 thanks!
Hey TDubsKid. I just got my first TW. Currently doing the first mods, riser, bars and such. What rack do have on yours in this video? Thanks! Keep making the sweet videos.
hey, glad to hear, I have a man rack. got a video on it
That mod looked like a pain in the ass!
yeah it was well worth it though learned a lot from it too
TDubsKid yeah I really need to do it, being 6’0 tall.
yeah I couldn't imagine riding the tdub with stock bars being 6 foot tall seems really uncomfortable
Tdubskid
If i get these protaper bars with no risers do you think ill have to get a longer clutch cable?...or do any of the other modification you did? im only upgrading the stock bars to get the HDB hand guards 😁
seems like you would need at least an adapter to run these bars, because of the different sizes, you may not need a longer clutch cable just gotta try and see what happens, nice!
Kid, were the bars you installed the same height as stock? If not, do you know which ones are stock height? I'm looking to install the ProTaper without the crossbar, but don't want to mess with extending the cables. The 2" Rox risers give me enough height now. ThanksKeep up the great videos.
they were pretty close hard to say for sure, if you can try taking the stock ones off and go to a motorcycle shop that has a good selection of them and size em up. gottcha, hope it works out for you! thanks! ill keep em coming
Which LED pod do you use on the bars? I have a 2005 TW200 that I need to swap bars on. I have heard the Pro Tapers are more comfortable
it was just a generic 18watt flood light from amazon, I got 2 new 12watt spots that I will be putting on after new handguards, ill angle them out to the sides so I can see where i'm turning better at night. nice, it makes a huge difference! I love the ones I got, I think it depends a lot on the bend
You instill confidence in doing all this retrofitting yourself. Just have the right tools, a trip to Harbor Freight solves that
It’s such a good feeling when your able to fix something yourself. For sure harbor freight is great. Just remember a 20% off coupon
Morning Chief, decided to go for the same bar setup after hearing how much better it handles. However most of the links have expired. Curious if you still have the sku or part number for the handlebars, the rest I’ve got figured out.
Keep up the videos man I’ve learned a lot about my bike watching your channel!
Hey thanks, glad to hear, still using this same setup, I just updated the links, couldnt find the black one available on amazon right now but I added a platinum one, same bar
Thanks! Ill keep the videos coming
Hello TDUB, could you give me the exact model number and info on the Pro Taper Bars you purchased? I want to install them on my TW200. I like the taper from 1 1/8 to 7 /8. Thanks . James
hey I got links to everything in the description
Quick question tdubskid
Have you heard anything about the 2021 tw200 being the last model year?
Love you work young man and thank you in advance.
I have not heard that anywhere. thanks! glad you enjoy the vids
Hey man im actually looking into moving to Loveland Colorado. Are you familiar with that area? And is there much for riding and stuff out that way? Everything I've seen and read about Loveland has been perfect and I've always loved Colorado. Super stoked to come there and check it out..good video!
Btw you should start a used furniture store 😂
hey that's awesome! I have been snowboarding near there a few times but not really familiar I could imagine it would be an awesome place to explore on a dualsport though! thanks maybe would could go riding sometime once you move here! hahaha I should, I would call it shady tree slightly used furniture warehouse
TDubsKid hahah shady tree. And im down ferr surr!
Very well done!
thank you!
Do the little dots on the handle bar mounting brackets actually mean anything? Real question is, if I put them back on upside down will it cause problems lol?
I would imagine the point to the front but i'm not sure if it really makes a difference
Hey, what is your helmet model? Nice video BTW.
afx fx-41 thanks!
This is off topic of the vid but i really hate the drum brake on the TW200 could you possibly do a drum to disc brake conversion video because i have no clue how to convert it but i know it’s possible
yeah it's possible but would be very hard to do since there are no kits available for it and would require a good amount of fabrication, here is some info on a guy who did it tw200forum.com/forum/performance-customization/11161-rear-disc-brake-conversion-finally-completed.html
Just go to the yamaha dealer and order the parts. No fabrication needed as the forks are the same. But you will need a new front hub
Hey did your cycra guards still work with these bars?
they might work but not sure inner clamp will fit the bars since it would go on the tapered section. I just got highway dirtbikes next get handguards that ill be putting on soon
Does it work for a 125 Tw ?
Greetings from France 👌
should be the same I think
God i want to come up there and ride in these whacky spots with you lol
haha it's so fun to find these kind of random little spots to ride and chill out, I gotta check the other one soon to see if it got a new shipment of furniture in
The T-Rex chicken chaser . = ) lol
hahaha yes sir!
What a pain in the butt. I put risers and CR high bends on my XR without any mods.
nice
Are your throttle cables upside down at the handlebars ? You have them ran under the bars. Mine are on top.
yeah that is so the can reach the extended bars
@@TDubsKid oh ok you didnt go over that I dont think.
and after watching this video who was like fuck that!... lol man holy shit! that was super impressive, how much better on the body was it after the risers?
haha thanks, lot of work but was well worth it. great. my body feels so much better while riding with the taller bars
Love the T-Rex! Lol
haha thanks! he will be showing up in the next video
What model of aluminum Throttle tube did you get from Mooseracing?
I just updated the link to it in the description of this video for you. it just needs to be modified a bit
You should get, Barkbusters brand barkbusters, they are hardened aluminium, and won't bend. They can take way more of a beating than any other brand hand guards.
those are pretty good ones, I actually just ordered highway dirtbikes next gen hand guards they are pretty rad, they have fold in mirrors and a lot of other neat features
TDubsKid folding mirrors is a pretty cool feature. I want folding mirrors on my Yamaha XT250.
for sure! my stock mirrors would always get messed up riding gnarly stuff haha
IF YOU ASKED THE ROCK IF HE UNDERSTOOD HOW TO DO THIS MODIFICATION, THE ROCK WOULD SAY "OF COURSE"; BUT IF YOU ASKED THE TREE THE SAME QUESTION, THE TREE WOULD SAY "OF COURSE NOT, THAT'S WHY GOD MADE ROCKS"!!!!
Haha for sure 🪨
Can I put the rox risers on the stock bars using the same cables
not really sure, I think these bars were pretty similar height to stock. I might have a link to a video showing risers for the stock bars where you don't have to extend anything
@@TDubsKid Thanks I’ve been trying to find that video but nothing. One more thing what bulb did you use for your headlight. Thanks for answering my questions. Once again you are awesome.
The bars you used are unavailable now. I spoke with Pro Taper and they were not helpful.... Do you know what bike those bars were advertised for?
oh they can't be found anywhere? lots of options, hard to find the perfect one, they can work on any bike really
they were made for a specific rider
I finally tracked some down. Thanks Fella!
Good video. As a former tech, I dont recommend cable lube as it deteriorates cable lining and will cause greater problems in the future. If the throttle or clutch cable does not function smoothly and routing is correct, replace them. You can also install grips with compressed air and not use any chemicals at all.
thanks. it's a special kind of dry lube designed just for cables, over 15,000 miles of using it with no issues. it makes the clutch feel butter smooth. ill have to give that a try
Hey tdub do you remember the length of the clutch cable? Was it 42 inch?
yeah 42in I updated the link so it works again if you want to see the one I got. still works great!
Thanks tdub
no problem!
The curved bend clips looks like its cast metal too.
could be
Wish I had the money to buy you an XT250, and have you start making XT250 how-to vids... ;)
haha that would be rad. I may buy a klx250 and do a klx351 supermoto build one day though 😀
How much did you pay for your bike and how tall are you ...I'm looking to get one cause I wanna slower bike and that one looks sick.....I'm just not sure if I'm to big for it. I'm 6.1 ft and 170 lbs
Oh dang 5.4
bought it new for like 4500 it's a pretty cool bike, yeah i'm only 5'4 you might find this bike a bit small, but there are some big people who ride them. a wr250 would be a good fit for you
@@TDubsKid I just went ahead and bought the tw brand new today its actually not to bad I might need to change the handle bars otherwise I'm comfortable.
Thanks man your a cool guy to watch .
oh nice! congrats on your new TW200, yeah it feels way better with bar risers. thank you!
If you wouldn't have cut off that hand grip it would have been the proper length you wouldn't have need to adjust your brake lines
For sure
Grate video, but about the push-up... never do them with your elbows out like you showed! Could cause shoulder injury much much easier.
A proper push-up will have the elbows somewhere close to your body.
Good to know thanks
That’s 16,000kms wow congratulations lol I’m at 7000 with a 2012 TW200 would you buy a brand new TW200 once this one dies ?(which won’t be soon)
hey 7000 kms is not bad! a lot of old ones only have 500 miles on them haha and probably not ill just rebuild the engine or buy a new engine unless they put fuel injection on the tw then maybe I would buy a new one
I had just bought a 1999 TW125 (only 125cc is sold in Europe unfortunely) it has 30.000km on it and it runs great! Just did the oil and filters. So 16k km's is nothing yet. Some here have well over 60k km's and they still go!
It took me over a year to find a nice TW because it's only sold untill 2003 here and most of them are roughed up and very rusty
TDubsKid drop a 225 6 speed in it when it does, from a ttr225. That's what I'm working on
Yeah, when my tdub explodes that's my plan. It seems like affordable tw200 engines are kind of hard to come by honestly, I guess there's just a lot more XT225s/TTR225s/TTR230s out there to get salvage parts from
projectile dysfunction cause the 200's are pretty bullet proof and easy to rebuild. I just got lucky on a cheap 225 6 speed. It'll just be a hobby, pie in the sky build. Who would want more horsepower and an extra gear, lol.
