  • The best First mod you could ever get on a DualSport Motorcycle is gotta be handguards, especially if you ride off road! They protect your hands and your levers and that stuff is easy to break. Any guards are better than no guards but this time I went all out and got the best. These are the Highway Dirt bikes next gen universal hand guards, they are pricey but handmade right here in my beautiful home state of Colorado! Always good to support local businesses if you can. The best part about these is the folding mirrors that are actually very usable, plus they have some other unique features. I installed these on my 2014 Yamaha TW200, only thing is they will not work with the stock handlebars, you gotta have aftermarket bars. but I am definitely very happy with these HBD handguards.
    thanks for watching :)

    The guards look great on your bike, glad to see they're still going strong for you. I love the look of their fold and tuck mirrors.
    Their fitment guide makes a big deal about replacing the top clamp and honestly their spiel about the big bolts is pretty confusing, like most of their site. Your video helps clear things up by showing and telling. Still I feel like I've got a lot of measuring and communicating to do to decide since I have different handlebars. Also odd to have guards many times more expensive than my bar.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Yeah these guards are legit. I wont ever need new ones. Yeah the site is a bit confusing for sure. They only sell ones for the 1-1/8 in bars now. And have to but thick walled aluminum. Yeah. You will never need new ones though. They replaced my mirror for free when I broke it just had to pay shipping

    Great video. I LOVE my HDB hand guards. They are indeed a bit pricey but in my opinion worth every penny. I like their design and the mirrors are the first I've had that are actually usable for me on my bike. They're low and wide almost like bar end mirrors then tuck and lock completely out of the way when not needed. I've left them out on the trails and ended up clipping trees with them a few times with no damage whatsoever. They fold back on impact just enough to avoid damage but not get in the way of your hands.
    One thing to mention for anyone who doesn't already have aluminum bars you can order them through HDB as well and they'll tap them for you for free.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  6 років тому

      hey thanks man! yeah they are freaking sturdy, definitely worth the money for sure since your getting some nice mirrors. yeah they are the perfect size and very usable. good to know they are durable, I dropped it in sand to day with the mirrors out and they did good, only got 2 very fine scratches that you can't see without looking close. they really put a lot of thought into making them. oh I didn't know that pretty cool they will tap them for you

    I'm trying to understand something. You said that the new bar was a 1 1/8 that tapers to 7/8 so the stock throttle tube works on the bar. HDB claims that 1 1/8 bars are necessary for tapping and probably strength. So the tap isn't for a 1 1/8 end? I guess it's just for strength of the thicker tube? I guess when you tell them you have a tw200 they include a 7/8 tap expecting you have a non stock bar?

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  2 роки тому

      yeah 1 1/8 bars start there then taper out to 7/8. I know they use to sell the kit for 7/8 but they stopped. thats just how all the 1 1/8 in bars are. the difference is the clamps

    • @radiowave75
      @radiowave75 2 роки тому

      Yeah but so worth it. Most durable handguards ever, regular guards get messed up easy and jam the throttle tube. Any thick wall aluminum guards will work like the protaper bars There are many different kinds and bends, best to go to a moto store and look at them in person. It’s personal preference and if your cables will reach high enough

    Looking at your maintenance video's TDUB.
    Thinking about a oil Change at 100 miles.
    What type of torque wrench is that you are using?
    I will need to purchase one.

      oh cool, and it's a gearwrench 3/8 torque wrench a little pricey but it's nice. the click style work just as good too just takes a little bit longer to setup

    hey boss I just bought an '03 TW and it's very stock. i've been binge-watching your vids like they're Breaking Bad and i see that your putting these HDB guards on your newer handlebars.
    I'm pretty sure I want to go with the above handguards cause they seem to be the toughest of all.
    QUESTION: will I be able to tap out the stock bars like you did? the metal seems thinner on the stock than your aftermarket bars.
    Yeah, I'll prolly eventually switch out the handlebars too like you did but i'm really fiending to ride before winter overwhelms us here in chicago.
    but in the meantime...Will I be able to tap out the stock bars to fit these HDBs on them? Or should i go with something cheaper in meantime? FOLLOW UP QUESTION; if i should go with cheaper in meantime, which would you suggest?

      @TDubsKid  5 років тому +1

      hey man, congrats on your new TW, nice haha glad to hear your enjoying the videos, and unfortunatly they will not work at all with the stock bars, not enough material to tap the threads. best get some really cheap hanguards until you can get new handlebars

    Hey I have the Cycra ultra hand guards would these mirrors fit the cycras? I wish I saw this before I bought the Cycras.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  6 років тому

      I don't think they would fit very well honestly cause there doesn't seem to be as much room on the cycras. also I don't think they sell just the mirrors unfortunately

      there is a cutout for them. that's the only way they will sell them. probably for liability reasons, using them with regular hand guards may make it hard to use the controls when folded in

      I had the cycra probends at first and they not too bad, had to modify one of the brackets a little bit. people see to like the tusk handguards for the tw but I have never tried them
