Sat right there at the counter for an hour watching everything, and eating three or four burgers, and getting a couple to go. White Manna is THE BEST show in town. There is a McDonalds across the street. People use the bathroom there, and then go to White Manna for their food.

Absolutely agree about the grill imparting flavor. For years I couldn't figure out why the burgers at my local cafe were so much better than the pan fried burgers I made at home. Finally I asked the owner/cook what his secret was, he pointed to the flat top grill and said that baby's been cooking since 1952! You just cant recreate that.

Actually, it has changed if you go back far enough. I went a few times in the early 80s when it was a different cook, and the burgers were more White Castle sized. The meat wasn’t formed into patties and were put on the grill as balls then pressed flat. They used a Pepperidge farm bun you could get in supermarkets (which they no longer make), so we even tried making them at home. There was still something extra about theirs, though. I was surprised when I went back after a long time and they had become a bit larger and they were using potato rolls.
Absolutely amazing !!! These sliders look so good with the cheese and onions and those crispy brown crinkle cut fries topped off with a nice milkshake. This has made me decide to fly to Hackensack from Florida !!!! I can't wait to sit down and eat a dozen WOW
When you operate the grill, wrap the sandwiches, AND bag them up and pass them out… 90 % of the world doesn’t understand how much respect that deserves. And to all of my fellow cooks and cashiers and everyone else that breaks their backs for under $20 an hour, please take a break and think about yourself for once instead of just how to best serve everyone else.
I live a few minutes away and go here regularly. It’s incredibly small, only seats maybe 12 people, usually with another dozen people standing to wait for their orders. I worked in restaurants for about a decade, and this place is hands down the most well oiled machine I’ve ever witnessed. One thing you forgot to mention tho, grill master also handles crowd control 😂

This place is exactly why menus have that warning at the bottom that says "burgers are served up medium so be careful." In reality is bc they know cross contamination is inevitable when u serve up like this. Fast food nightmare
What is amazing to me is how this man does not cook with an ounce of love, ketchup all on top of the buns, the way he is smacking the food ect ect it is a way for this establishment to make money and they probably are good. Certain things just stick out to me.

I lived just down the street from this amazing place in 2013, within walking distance. Went twice per week. Absolutely fantastic. Was only in New Jersey for six months for work and I sure miss this place. Legendary local joints like this are a gem and the best places. Been going here for over a decade and it is truly a burger gem. Simple but delicious. Perfect meat to bun ratio and the steaming of the buns on top of the meat as it cooks really just adds something. Also all that onion caramelizes and adds a perfect amount of sweetness. Ugh now I wanna go tomorrow hahaha

Good quality beef, probably sirloin and brisket, grilled onions on top of the melted steak burger fat, meat grilled just enough, not over done, American cheese slice cut in half to melt on the meat not the grill. I bet those guys ordering four, five burgers ate them all. Very tasty burgers I think. If you are a diet person for whatever reason, I say take a dip, it won’t kill you. Love it! Nice work Jersey!👍❤️

I noticed that they are using Martin's Potato Rolls. These rolls are made in Chambersburg, PA and shipped to many locations on the east coast and down to Florida. Martin's bread products are sooooo good - if you ever have a chance to buy them - you won't be disappointed ! I often buy their Butter Bread for regular sandwiches !

Along with being the Boss / Owner, in my life I’ve worked decades of repetitive / production jobs alongsidemy employees (Mostly Construction / Site Work), but at least it was usually just a couple / few days, or weeks, then we moved on to the next project. I couldn’t stand static at a flat top, in one place and churn out those burgers hour after hour, day after day, month after month, Y after Y at the same restaurant without losing interest in life. Kudos to those that can do similar jobs, do them well and find satisfaction in doing so. 🤝 BTW. I’ll take three with onion to go! 😋
This is what I like. Big thumbs up for the burgers. Too many places seem to want to serve a patty that is super thick (we get a lot of that in the UK). I prefer a flatter patty and if I want more meat then I can double up or buy two. These are good honest burgers.

I grew up in Hackensack and there’s not a week that goes by that I don’t kick myself for going to the McDonald’s across the street instead of this place. I now make it a point to go here any time I visit the New Jersey.
My brother lives about 30-40 minutes away. I’ve been going to White Manna since 2004. My favorite burgers. Every single time I go down to visit, I stop by here. Proud to say I’ve introduced my daughter to this place and now it’s her favorite burger also. I’ve tried many times to duplicate the burgers at home but can never get it just right.
Those onions appeared a bit limp in the video. Try salting down the sliced onions real good and letting them sit. Salt and pepper the meat before you make the patties. He's not seasoning anything while cooking that I saw, and you know that there is at least minimal seasoning in play somewhere along the line. Sometimes it's not the seasonings, it's when you add them.

These burgers look divine. The best burgers for me are are the simple ones like this, nothing but cheese, grilled onions, ketchup, mustard, and some pickles. That with some fries and a ice cold Coca Cola… damn my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Gonna have to give this place a visit next time I visit NY.

I've been there. The place is really tiny. It has a very 1940's vibe. Definitely a worthwhile experience.
These burgers look divine. The best burgers for me are are the simple ones like this, nothing but cheese, grilled onions, ketchup, mustard, and some pickles. That with some fries and a ice cold Coca Cola… damn my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Gonna have to give this place a visit next time I visit NY.
Onions should be an option for a burger. The meat doesn’t need them.

Must stop anytime we're in that area... love them. A lady is usually manning the grill when we're there and just amazing sometimes how she keeps up with the orders.

Martins is manufactured and distributed here in Valdosta, Ga. Not sure if it is the only place, but its here! They have great buns.
This place is consistently voted best burger in Jersey and has held the title nationally sever times. Great, great place to go for a classic burger!
