I honestly believe it’s due to the whole podcast era.
Podcasts have made people famous and notorious just from talking, and with the UFC and Hoe Rogan connections, Schaub became a popular guy off of the podcast.
I feel more many standup comics, the fans of the podcast pay to go see them and the comedy portion is just whatever to them. They don’t care about quality especially when they’re out and drinking.
With Schaub, I feel like those are mostly dingus fans of the podcast who think he’s funny in podcast format.
Especially if it pushes anything of the right agenda

Nick's gripe isn't with that the stories are fake, he already said it's common in stand up to tell fake stories. The issue is with how easy it is to fact check and prove that the stories brendan tells are fake. Brendan's story about an OJ tweet being pinned on his own twitter is a prime example of that. Literally anyone in the audience on the night could have gone to Brendan's twitter and immediately see that he was lying. But yes, like you say, if the joke was funny, it wouldn't have mattered.

Not to defend Brendan Schaub or anything, but comedians completely fabricate stories for jokes all the time. Sometimes they're true, but a lot of jokes are just inspired by something that happened to them or that they saw. It shouldn't matter if it's true, just if it's funny. Just felt like a weird thing to focus on.
Yes right? I went to an acting school for 2 years . We had to do stage comedy amd the stories we would tell were many times not real or very exagerated and mofified versions of something that actially happened to us.

"when is so-and-so's next shift?" and any other questions that could potentially endanger the privacy of a coworker. In one of Beige Frequency's videos on Schaub, he points out that Schaub outright lied about his MMA past/how he got into comedy in a way that made him look better. And of course, he painted the MMA doctor as a Chinese stereotype when that was wholly unnecessary. So many more examples like those. Once you catch on, it's natural to wonder how many of his stories are fake.

I agree 100% I agree, it's one thing for someone to talk about something that happened in walmart, but what Brendan does is pretend that the craziest thing ever happened, and he was there for it and he's just going to tell you a story, like "OMG guys!!! I was in a restaurant last night and WHOOPIE GOLDBERG SAID MAD RACIST SHIT! CRAZY!!!"

As someone who has seen a lot of stand up & touring comedians, he is not the only one who reuses jokes from specials. They ALL do. It’s just how being a stand up is. I recently saw Theo Von and I damn near knew the entire set myself cause it’s all on UA-cam from the last 5 years lol
100%. Seinfeld uses bits from 20 years ago. That's why posting these kinds of joke breakdowns on UA-cam often frustrates comedians.

Yeah I don't think people realise that comedians build up their jokes and repertoire through the years and thqt they kinda stick to everything that has proven to work. It's hard coming up with actual good comedian level jokes so I guess it makes sense they carry their proven jokes throughout their career.

I used to work at a comedy club here in LA thats not big on the map but we mostly had all the A list comedians I never heard them tell jokes from their specials if anything they used our place to practice for an up coming special but maybe its different for the smaller peoples

6:01 that’s what all restaurants say when they don’t recognize a voice. It’s an employee protection thing. I actually had my dad show up to my work once and my coworker came up to me like “there’s some weird dude asking about you do you know him?”. They’re a naturally suspicious folk.

The weird comedian's humor actually resonates with me. I've always connected personally with anti comedy and absurdism, because I've always felt that life itself is a kind of absurdism. I feel like comedy or any kind of art being confined to a certain formula like "verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge," or "set up, story, punch line" just defeats the purpose of that art. Even so, I'd still say Brendan is in the totally wrong business because he lacks genuine resonance with the art. It would be like if I disguised myself as a construction worker and showed up to a site downtown.
That’s why I’ve always loved Douglas Adams’s work.

There's definitely something that stands out about this writer. I have limited streaming services, though, as that's all I can afford.

Went to see him live after seeing your last shaub video. To see if it was “that bad” … it was AWFUL, 25 - 30 people and he would NOT stop staring at my girlfriend and made her and I feel extremely uncomfortable.

It's not uncommon to hear comedians tell the same jokes twice or more, that's how they work it out and perfect it. But that usually stops once it makes it into a special, then they start on new material, so idk wtf he's doing
I feel like “lying” in comedy is generally more akin to “tall tales” like telling a story that is untrue or partly fabricated but more or less impossible/irrelevant for people who don’t know you to fact check. Like “oh when I was nine I had a fear of Mickey Mouse and my dad took me to Disneyland to try to get me to get over it and I shit my pants on splash mountain” or something, which could be invented whole cloth, but whether or not it’s real doesn’t matter.
I cant help but imagine Brendans mum watching his stand up then immediately going straight to imdb to give him a 1 star rating

@@WhoamI-rl8ep they had several comedians go before him so people would be tired and boozed up. Its a cheap and dishonest way to get people to buy more food and drinks and be too drunk to care about how unfunny these jokes are. Even Nick had at least one drink because it was such a stupidly long set. Also him laughing is a cheap way for laughs because people tend to mimic (especially when they are too drunk to even know what's going on).
