Your comment about getting them as a newborn made me chuckle. I was going to wait till my daughter turned 7/9 to install hers, but one day on a whim, I just started. And then kept going. 5 weeks and 2 SWOLLEN legs later - one of the best decisions I ever made. She thinks so too, but she's just 4😂 We'll see if she still feels the same way 10 years from now. She has roughly 560 locks, but I didn't use the Sisterlocks grid. Just parted her hair into 8 equal triangles that meet at the center of her head. Prior to locking, those 8 triangles formed the basis for all her styles, so I wanted to still have that. It's like nothing changed, except wash day is a BREEZE now and we don't know where our combs are anymore😄
Aww thanks! Just trying to share the hair love! I sincerely wish this style had been offered to me before highschool bc phew 😅 was highschool with my hair rough
I could listen to you all day. Love your intellect. I would have to agree about the grid. I thought I got my grid down precisely how I wanted it. Started with mini twist, 13 hours later, I'm like "ME NO LIKEY!" So I took them down. I will start again but I'mma wait a few more months until my hair grows out. You are a GEM😍 Amazing job. Your patience and willpower is phenomenal. Great inspiration to so many of us. We should NEVER EVER say what we can't do because you are a fantastic example that, we as beautiful black women can "Achieve if We Believe." GONE GIRL😘😘😘😘😘
Yes please to the video about your grid and the measuring tool! I never would've considered locing my own hair but your videos are making me think about it! Yours, Tykara Ann's and mstanish1 microlocs look alot better than some professionally installed Sisterlocks I've seen!
Jan-K Mah she actually mentioned in this video that she’d be doing specific videos on how she did her grid and made her measuring tools in her future videos so they’re not up yet but I’m looking forward to them :)
Girl you locs are amazing and I love your energy and vibe, it’s so genuine and pure, I’m planning on getting some June for my new chapter of beginning my 30s I don’t see people with microlocs at all but I think that’s what makes me love them more
Dedication to the highest level, we’ll done girl. Your hair is gorgeous. I’m 3 months in I have small starter locs 180 of them my 2nd set I love them. 👍🏾
Love this video. Just to elaborate on your point about thinning locs and added hair. Remember your hair will shed overtime and will be contained within each loc so you will have “added” hair within each loc overtime.
First of all you did an amazing job with your micro locks. Your hair looks gorgeous. I applaud you for sharing your installation process. I am great believer of each one teach one. I agree with all of your recommendations to reduce the risk of thinning locks, but would like to add one suggestion. That is, to not leave to long a stretch in between your retightenings. This advice is particularly for micro locks, because the regrow on thinner locks are very vulnerable, and the longer your hair, the more tension is placed on the new growth, which is more likely to break off, or thin out. I would suggest (depending on the speed of your hair growth), to retighten anywhere between 4-8wks.
Girl your microlocs are so bomb and codos to you for doing them YOURSELF! I feel like the probably mean so much more to you since you did them yourself. I could never my hands would fall asleep like crazy lol.
I would LOVE a box braid video! Also, you really make me wanna get microlocs! My mom has very long sister locks (my grandma used to as well) and tried to get me to consider then when I was a kid, but I wasn't having it! Lol now I want to do this with my mom's help after this quarantine... whenever that would be. I also have the exact same natural hair color as you and I did mini braids for 4 years with only a small break in between. My natural hair is loose now but has experienced the worst hair health ever this year. I'm also a grad student and I want hair freedom without paying for the equivalent of college credits. Thanks for sharing all this great info
You make me want to redo mine. I’m trying not to have loc envy. But it’s hard cus you have twice the density I do. And I wanted my microlocs small but too small concerned me cause it felt like I was interlocking 4 strands of hair 😂.
I just can't say it enough....you did an AMAZING job on your hair. I have sisterlocks and the ONLY reason that I have them is because I found a trainee that charged me $300. Your hair is easily comparable to a professionally installed set of locs and no matter how long it took you to install them, the freedom that you gain from this hairstyle is worth every single minute. I'm 2 1/2 years in and still absolutely in love with mine and now I'm recommending your videos to everyone that asks me about installing their own. Kudos to you for doing such a great job.
I love your hair, it is gorgeous. I always wanted sister locs, but went with traditional small locs. I am currently 10 weeks in on my journey. My hair gets dry as well, I have use rose water on mine. I am a new subscriber to your channel. BTW your voice is so soothing and pleasant to listen to.
Hey, I wanted to say thanks for your honesty, and your locs are going to be beautiful. I also, fell in love with sister locs this fall, and installed my own micro locs, in dec. 2019. I was going back forth between natural and relax hair, it took me about six yrs to finally commit to locs. My biggest issue was not wanting the traditional size locs but wanting loc. Then finding sisterlocks and cost, took that thought out my head immediately. After some more research the dyi micro loc seemed to be the answer. I will say, this was best decision I made and I wish I would have found this sooner. Loc love, enjoying you sharing your journey!!!
My husband and I have locs and have been coaxing my mother-in-law to get sisterlocs or microlocs due to the amount of "neatness" she desires (she wants to see her scalp) and I like how detailed you were with starting the locs and may be my guide to help her achieve the desired look for her. So thank you for your channel
Greetings ladies. Just started my microlocs 15 days ago. I thought about sisterlocs but 3 days worth of sitting was the kicker. She knocked out my microlocs in 2 days. I'm happy. I know I'm not a DIY person so kudos to all that can do it themselves.
If your hair is dry then use rose water and you can put some vitamin E in it to spray your hair. If you use water, use distilled water then you can add oil. Massage your scalp by putting your finger tips and moving your scalp. You can put the oil on your finger tips and heat it up with your finger tips and put it on your scalp it allows it to penetrate better.
You should use grape seed oil instead of coconut oil.. coconut oil tends to dry hair a lot more. Grape seed oil is the way to go 👍🏽 Btw.. I enjoy seeing your vids. 🙂
Your locks are absolutely beautiful. There are no others anymore beautiful than yours. Sisterlocks is a brand and a particular parting system, but no different then the micro locks, just started different, like twist, braids, double strain etc SL given name allow then to charge an outrageous amount to install which is horrible. You were smart to do your own hair. Peace and Love Beautiful Queen
Omg you got me rolling when you asked the girl about sister loc😂🤣😂 you are adorable ❤️ I just did my own and I am in 💕💕💕 I did the plaits method because my hair is extremely soft. I know some will say they are micros but trust I will start inter locs in 2months
You are doing a real service and I’m loving your channel ❤️ I also love the look of sisters but no way I could afford that either (also in the 18-20” range and I was like 😱 no indeed). I ended up going with traditional size a few weeks ago cuz I did NOT want to have to do a million reti’s 🤣🤣. Looking forward to more of your journey though, especially as people catch on to your excellent help in achieving this style
QueenEleem you videos are always an inspiration. I will have to do my own hair because my hair is currently waist length there is no way for me to go to a loctitian. I have the same issues you have, damage to my hair from coloring and perming and I am currently natural. Thank you for the time, energy, and effort it is greatly appreciated.
i’m not interested in locs anytime soon but boy am i tide!! i have similar texture to you with maybe more 4b than 4c but it’s just as fine and dense. i currently am living in box braids and other protective styles and i FELT that hurt neck roll at 21:34 literally me right now😭😭 now i’m thinking about mini twists/braids
Nice!!! my #1 pc of advice is take your time and if you want that grid 💯 , take the time to plan it out. Welcome to the fam. Would love to see how they turn out
My SL only lasted 2mths smh... I tried my best to leave them in but the way my OCD set up I couldn't... my parts were jacked up lol I took my them out in 3 days 🤣 I spent too much money for my hair to look the way it was... when I tell you I wanted those things out believe me I got them🤣 I just installed my micro braid Locs myself... it's not perfect but it looks better than the sisterlocks I had... and least I'll feel better knowing I did them myself🤗 FOR FREE EDIT: I do get upset tho knowing all the money and time I spent travel to get my hair done when I could've just did it myself... but lessons learned... I just have to take that L🤷🏽♀️
Ohhh, thanks for answering my question!! I've experienced many of the issue you have with trying to find a style that works for my hair. Mine is fine and low density so to be losing ANY was not good. I've had locs 3 different times! Each time I started them different ways and tried different methods of maintaining them, but in the end they always thinned out and broke especially around my edges. I wish i knew if going with microlocs would be different because i would totally do it. Would you ever be willing to part the grid for someone but not do the locs?
I did the same thing when I saw a lady with sisterlocs in person LOL. She was so nice and answered all my questions lol. I wish I had gotten her name lol
So say you grow your hair to a specific length and you don’t want it to get any longer, after the locks are mature can your trim the lengths? It would that effect the locks?
So awesome hair twin!! Loving the q&a and hope you do many more. Also I didn't know you're also in NYC (me too! I'm in Queens). I'm looking forward to the tool video when you post it and I so agree that whenever we add even the slightest little bit of extra hair, that tension to the neck is real!! Ughh.
Yes PLS. Do a video about the human hair box braid. I'm experiencing severe hair breakage at the nape area and the sides of mine hair and nothing seems to work for me.
@QueenEleem I am enjoying ur loc journey. If you haven't already seen @YannieTheLocologist you should really check out her UA-cam channel. Re buildup, how often to wash hair, and lint on hair.. I know you hv microlocs & we have traditional locs I believe same rules would apply. Rosewater and vitamin E oil is very helpful for ur hair. & Beepollen for consumption is amaaaaaaazing!! Congratulations on migrating to the loc community 🤸🏾♀️✌🏿🤜🏿
My 4c fine hair HATES coconut oil. It’s always dry the next day. My hair loves olive and grape seed oil. My edges do better with a combination of emu and Jamaican black castor oil
Sometimes I pulled it up into a bun and wore a headband. Sometimes I braided the completed locs back into their braided sections. I know of other people who wore wigs will installing.
QueenEleem did you trim your ends before you installed your microlocs? I'm thinking of doing diy locs. My hair is about 17" but my ends feel a little rough. I'm thinking of taking off 2-3 inches for my ends to be smooth again or is it better to have rougher ends to start? Thanks
I can’t comment on what’s best as I only come from my experience as I’m not a trained loctician. I did not trim my ends and they were pretty badly damaged from lack of trimming, heat damage, and detangling. On the flip side of you trim it you’ll have less length to deal with and interlocking is TIRING.
Had to pause the video to say - stop with the coconut oil in your hair. A lot of 4c haired people complain that it DRIES out their hair. It's great for the skin though, and tastes yummy too. So maybe don't toss it? Just keep it out of your hair. Okay, back to the video😁
Your comment about getting them as a newborn made me chuckle. I was going to wait till my daughter turned 7/9 to install hers, but one day on a whim, I just started. I love how you get straight to the point and don't act all weird and secretive about basic questions lol. You did an amazing job on your install!
Aww thanks! Just trying to share the hair love! I sincerely wish this style had been offered to me before highschool bc phew 😅 was highschool with my hair rough

Ifeyinwa ua-cam.com/video/edwSBen78Vk/v-deo.html she featured her measuring tool in this video. See link.
Ifeyinwa she also mentions briefly about the grid in the same video as well. ua-cam.com/video/edwSBen78Vk/v-deo.html
I follow them all too. I love their hair!
Can you do another Q&A? I’m just nosey and curious to know what you’re studying in school, when you got married, what you like to eat lol
yessss lol me too, i wanna know more
Lol cute

Please make a Video for Human hair Box braids!!!
Thank you for answering my question. I live in Northern California I see micro and Sisterlocs a lot here. I’m surprised it isn’t that popular in NYC.
I live in Baltimore and it's an everyday style in the black community so I shocks me also that it isn't more popular in NYC.
Greetings ladies. Just started my microlocs 15 days ago. I thought about sisterlocs but 3 days worth of sitting was the kicker. She knocked out my microlocs in 2 days. I'm happy. I know I'm not a DIY person so kudos to all that can do it themselves.

Oh they are sooo0000o lovely. I love your locks and the other microlockers like Feneti Tykara Ann, Kendra Kenshay, Dutchess Keke, Itscinname, etc
Waiting for the measuring tool video💃🏾💃🏾😘
Thx for sharing. I think this will be my next hair move👏🏾👏🏾
I live in NYC and you have a point, Ive never seen anyone with these in person. Only online!😨

I'd love that content. I am so interested in human hair box braids.
Those prices you were quoted are astronomical!! I went to a certified SL Consultant in the DMV area and she charged $925 for 7 inches of hair
You are doing a real service and I’m loving your channel ❤️ I also love the look of sisters but no way I could afford that either (also in the 18-20” range and I was like 😱 no indeed). I love love love your hair, and your channel again you did a awesome job
I will be doing diy microlocs this week and I’m so excited I just want to start tonight but I need to plan out my grid.
Nice!!! my #1 pc of advice is take your time and if you want that grid 💯 , take the time to plan it out. Welcome to the fam. Would love to see how they turn out
Wow you just save alot of money doing your own locks. In some places they charge you $1000 for the whole head. Your did a great job! Bravo 👏🎉💐🎉💐🎊💝💐
Lol yes. Im this vid I actually price out 2 places and the total is well over $1000 and another commenter said they do up charge for thickness so... 😅
My SL only lasted 2mths smh... I tried my best to leave them in but the way my OCD set up I couldn't... my parts were jacked up lol I took my them out in 3 days 🤣 I spent too much money for my hair to look the way it was... when I tell you I wanted those things out believe me I got them🤣 I just installed my micro braid Locs myself... it's not perfect but it looks better than the sisterlocks I had... and least I'll feel better knowing I did them myself🤗
FOR FREE
EDIT: I do get upset tho knowing all the money and time I spent travel to get my hair done when I could've just did it myself... but lessons learned... I just have to take that L🤷🏽♀️
You mentioned drknlvely. I was a member of the dark knight squad. She is awesome.
Dark knight squad ✊🏽
I love your updates. Congratulations on grad school!!
Please make a video about your box braid protective style processes
I’m so proud of your patience. It looks awesome 👏🏾
Thanks so much for answering my question. I will definitely follow your loc journey!

👯♀️ my 3 week update will have the tool info, coming shortly
U did a great job with your hair 🥰
I’m interested in a video about your human hair box braid experience!
Yes PLS. Do a video about the human hair box braid. I'm experiencing severe hair breakage at the nape area and the sides of mine hair and nothing seems to work for me.
Ok will do 😊
Yess please do the video about the human hair box braids lol
I have oily scalp, it's such a struggle. But ACV and tea tree oil are helping greatly.
Hi faith! I subscribed to her. Thank you for the recommendation! 💕💕
What’s your plan for dealing with lent? From the videos I’ve watched, some people brush their hair to get it out.
Your skin looks so good!
Would you watch a GRWM? Bc my skin is not perfect 😅 but I’m debating diversifying my channel or staying in my niche.
QueenEleem YESSS!!
*raises hand* 🖐🏽 Very interested in a human hair box braids to grow your hair out video! 😁
I would love to have this style of locs but no way am I bothered with the maintainance
would love to see the video on human hair box braids :D
How do you moisturize your hair? And how do you avoid build up and lint?
I’ll be answering your first question in my 3 week update which I’ll be uploading shortly 🙂 I avoid buildup by washing and lint by not using towels
I would love to see the human hair box braid video
Beautiful
Amazing!!!
My 4c fine hair HATES coconut oil. It’s always dry the next day. My hair loves olive and grape seed oil. My edges do better with a combination of emu and Jamaican black castor oil
Yup am interested in human hair box braids
You rock!! 🤩
Thanks momma
What did you do with your hair for the 2 months you were installing? Did you wear hair wraps or just pop on a hat?
Sometimes I pulled it up into a bun and wore a headband. Sometimes I braided the completed locs back into their braided sections. I know of other people who wore wigs will installing.
Your locs are beautiful! how long are you going to go before you re tighten. i'm curious as to how long it will take.
So I just retied them and will talk about it in my 1 month update
Girl!!! Did your hair grow that quick??? It looks so much longer.
@@QueenEleem Thank you for responding
Thank you for saying my user name right! No one ever does! Love you💞
Had to pause the video to say - stop with the coconut oil in your hair. A lot of 4c haired people complain that it DRIES out their hair. It's great for the skin though, and tastes yummy too. So maybe don't toss it? Just keep it out of your hair. Okay, back to the video😁
yarn braids?
You should sell your measuring tool
In my 3 week update I show how you can make it for free
Do you retighten your own hair😀
Yes I do
I would love a video on how you used human hair to grow out your natural hair. I vote "YES"!! Yes!👏🏾yes!👏🏾yes!👏🏾Lol.
💕💕💕💕
You look very young. I thought you were maybe 18 or 19.
the protective style comment pinched my nerves 😒
