15:38 Randy, 2GR-FE is the engine code/name for the current 3.5 V6 engine that powers a lot of Toyotas and Lexus'. The GR engine comes in many versions. The 2 versions that we get in the states are the 1GR (4.0 V6 for the Toyota trucks) and the 2GR (3.5 V6 that came out in 2005 for the Avalon and after that, Toyota just put it in a lot of cars, crossovers and minivans). Its a damn good motor. It is timing chain driven. I have that motor in my 2018 Lexus ES350 that I just bought not too long ago. The V6 that Toyota used before the GR was the MZ. The MZ was a 3.0 V6 timing belt driven motor that came out in 1993 in the Camry XLE V6 and lasted all the way until 2008 in the Solara.
I’m from Chicago and we push those explorers pretty hard. Redlines, speed bumps, and what not. They only fail once In a blue moon… I’d pick up a nice one if I could
That Subaru WRX might be a good little car to obtain. The engine in that vehicle is known at the FA20, it is a 2.0L Turbocharged H4, and it actually known to much more reliable than the 2.5L in the STI model WRX you drove in the past, which were known to blow head gaskets. I used to own a 2015 Subaru WRX (same generation as the one you showed) and drove the crap outta of it with launches and heavy track use, and I never had a single issue besides having to replace the clutch. The only time they have issues is when people mod the crap out of them and push too much power than you can either throw a rod bearing or bend the connecting rods, that's only when you push over 350HP though. With that one only having an intake, exhaust, and I'm assuming a stage 1 tune, it should be perfectly fine, I'd say. And they actually do get pretty descent fuel mileage up to 27-29 MPG on the highway and 21-23 in the city. I usually averaged about 22 in mine in the city with a heavy foot. The STI model is the one known for very horrible MPG, though. I'd keep keeping an eye on it as it is a pretty decent, reliable, quick little fun to drive vehicle that's holds its values well, even today! Oh and for the transmission feel you mentioned in the testdrive, the regular WRX uses a cable actuated transmission for shifting gears, while the STI uses a hydraulic system, which is why the transmission felt different to you.
I currently own a 15 WRX since new and it has 53k. It has been extremely reliable and maintenance free. It has needed a battery, rear brakes and just changed the serpentine belt. They are in high demand as there are very few 6sp manuals around. Don’t listen to people who are computer jockeys or who destroy these cars. They are made for spirited driving, not racing or heavy mods.
Not to mention the old EJ line of turbo engines where ran leaner than most cars from the factory, so when ppl put intakes and 3 inch exhausts on em without a tune they’d break pistons from detonation 😂
At the right price. They are just crazy expensive for what you get. I'd love a '99 there abouts. But at over $30k for an old Subi, well out of my budget.
Hey Randy! GSS stands for the General Services Administration. They are the property holder for most of the federal government. Those police SUVs would have come from an agency in your area. They agency would drive Silver vehicles. You have to check with your state as most won’t allow you to turn on the any of the emergency equipment on a public road. But they usually try to sell them to smaller agencies/departments first

In Ontario, you can keep the sirens and full lights on police cruisers, but the vehicle cannot say "police" anywhere, and if you ever use the sirens/lights on a public road, they'll throw the book at you.

One of the nice things about living in Idaho is the relaxed laws on owning a fully function Police, ambulance, firetruck. They do prefer you put covers over lights (not required) and you can't go around claiming you are part of (insert name of police department.) on vehicle. Most people as a courtesy will remove the top lights and put things like Not The in front of the word police and such. If not just remove or paint over all of that anyway. Personal fave is when they leave the emergency call 911 on the trunk. I'm always on the look out (for a good price in my area) a nice Chevy detective car that has the police package but original back seat and hidden lights. So I don't have to replace much except for the lenses to say amber or now some other color llke green and I have to disable the flashing head lights.
Go for the Cobra Randy! Probably not a lot of content left out of the the Taurus, but Mustangs always seem to do well and it’s an easy sale when you’re done with it.

I'm a Subaru tech and just want to say those FA20F engines are great. Unlike the EJ257 that's in the STI. The STI needs a 6 pack of engines. But a regular 2.0L WRX doesn't need more than 1 engine. Unless the owner did something wrong. I see plenty of these FA20's come in with 150k miles and still running just fine. Meanwhile i see STI's come in at 30-60k miles with spun rod bearings.
If you get another Explorer Interceptor then get rid or the Taurus otherwise that's a really nice car you can drive and put on mileage and not loose money
My mom has a 2023 Lexus ES300h Ultra-Luxury. 4cyl hybrid, does have a cvt but gets 40mpg average. Air conditioned seats, heads up display, adaptive cruise, all the features. I knew that ram wasn’t a Hemi. Start up sound wasn’t right. That truck looks awesome, a shame it doesn’t have the 5.7.
You can legally own a police car with all the lights and everything as a civilian but you just can’t use them on the roadway as if you were an actual police officer.
That Lexus ES 300 is so amazing and drives like a dream. It is quite good gas mileage and will go 300k plus Buy it for your driving fleet so that you WON'T loose money

Randy!!! Dont listen to all the Subaru Nay sayers!! I have a 2019 STI with 21k on the clock!! The only thing thats been modded is a cat back exhaust!!! Guys that end up blowing their engines are the ones who heavily mod them with bigger turbos, bigger injectors, and run it on e85.... trying to make big power without doing forged internals and going with a closed deck block!! Just a few small mods, like a AOS and maybe a Cyl 4 cooling mod can always actually help!! These things shift tightly and ride like they are on rails!!! Fun to drive!! If I had the funs and access to Dealers Auto Auction.... Id have no problem with buying and driving that thing!!! Also... that has the Limited trim level as the sunroof only comes on the WRX and STI Limiteds!!
The Ford Explorer P.I.U, if they don’t say “interceptor” on the front edge of the hood they will have the 3.7. If it does say interceptor them will have the 3.5 ecoboost or newer ones 3.0 ecoboost

Let me tell you something Randy, those Suburu's are more reliable than most would have you believe. They really aren't bad cars at all. Take it from somebody who knows trust me....
The passenger side always got beat up from parking. In my experience most officers swing the drivers door open wide to get in and out. And most are parked side by side in a lot.
You just have to avoid the Subaru's 2013 on back that's the ones that had the head gasket issues they fixed the problem in 2014 2013 On back our headgasket issues the rest of the Subaru's are pretty good have a great day Randy
It is technically not illegal to have the lights and sirens. It is illegal to use them on the public road. Anyone that tells you you can't own them is lying. You can order everything from companies. In some states you may have to change the light colors and the new ones are led so it is easy.
Depending on year, yeah the Cobra could be nice new content. Especially if it's a 1977\1978 with the 5.8 but doubt it as they are so rare. Still the later with the BOSS 5.4 is rare now. Wouldn't be interested in the early 1990's with the 3.6 straight 6 and dodgy 4spd auto.
I'm NOT too much of a frod fan. I like my Chevy's. But that Police office cruiser Explorer is Alright. What I like about the cop cars is their Black rim chrome cap combination look. Must be their original design cause I don't see anyone else with it. They take off the lights,.... OK, Fine. Add on a Turbo yourself Randy. I don't know if it will be good content but I think you might have fun. (And take off the frod emblems.) The Chevy with the unique color, I liked that color too even before I saw the Chevy emblem. The Lexus V6 was very nice. I liked the exterior interior color combination. And it did sound very nice. I hope You get it. The soup-a-woo was nice too. But it kind of looked like a frod focus from the front. On that black dodge truck.... Did you mean to say 2.7? Cause the engine looked small. You kept referring to it as a 4.7. Anyways, Good Luck on what you decide to do.

The all wheel drive is sweet when you want to play, but with a good set of street tires they're ok in rain, but if you have snow..... nope, they aren't gonna get you down thr road and around the corners. My thoughts on it may vary from yours on all counts. Also, no guarantee on the amount of fun you will actually have!😮😅😂😊❤

Hey Randy we use 20 Subaru Forester's at work never had any issues with them 2019 models and up ranging from 50000km to 250000kms

The Lexus is a great car. 3.5 is one of the most underrated engines out there. Have an 07 Camry XLE with the same engine at 170k that I love.

i love my wrx only problem i’ve had so far was a boost leak other than that i drive 45 minutes to work every day and i’m tuned on 93 get 20mpg
