I agree the truck is fine with great performance, it’s quiet and I like the interior with the exception that its range is not adequate. It needs to be able to go at least 400 miles between charging, something it can’t do now.
I am planning on buying a Lightening. It will serve double duty as a home battery backup for an off grid solar system. The 131 kWh battery is the equivalent of $35,000:of home batteries and if I ever run out of batteries in a cloudy stretch of weather I will just run into town and recharge there, giving me another 3 or 4 days worth of electricity. Given that it serves to replace $35,000 worth of batteries, I am thinking it is like getting a truck for $35,000 less than what I pay the Ford Dealer for the truck.

So it's a triple play, reducing taxes, getting power backup and getting a reasonably "efficient" truck to use (compare to 15 mpg ICE trucks).
I suggest you watch the video entitled "Replacing My OFF-GRID Power System With an E.V. (not what I expected)" on the Ambition Strikes channel. In essence, the channel hosts bought an F150 Lightning for the same double-duty goal that you have. They ran into a few teething problems, so if you watch the video you can be forewarned about them.

IMHO it’s trust. Ford has a lot of quality issues with their ICE vehicles. They’re also relatively new to EV, dealers and mechanics are scared of them. Ford got started too late into EVs, they should have slowly built up their products so that the ford infrastructure could adapt. They need to get out from under the mountain of 3rd party partners and suppliers and into efficient integration of EV modules. It wouldn’t hurt if they were more open about the software/protocols used so that the vehicles would be easier to diagnose and repair.

Besides the cost there's the inconvenience factor. Just add in that hauling a load in the truck's bed (construction related) or a weighted trailer (construction and residential) puts a massive load on the Ford EV that drops its range considerably. When you get to your destination (construction site or campground or boat launch or ???) will you be able to recharge your vehicle while its parked? And are there time limits on being at a charging station?
@@crosslink1493 a load in the bed had almost zero effect on the range. The trailer does cut it in half. I'm talking from experience as an owner and the owner of a contracting company. Just put a deposit on a '24 lightning flash trim, gets here in 3 weeks. Will be a dual ev family then. Had a 2 day test drive with a loaner, was a great truck
Not selling for the very reason you indicated. Slow charging for a massive battery and heavy truck. Thus a lower efficiency EV compared to smaller cars.

"Why does nobody want this FORD EV?" Same reason Ford/GM/Ram are having trouble selling their "bread and butter" pickup trucks. *BECAUSE NOBODY CAN FREAKING AFFORD THEM*
Dealer salespeople, especially at Ford, are so used to selling gas or diesel trucks that they just do not want to sell a heavily discounted electric truck when they have a slam dunk and large commission on a non-electric truck.

NOT ENOUGH RANGE. Range is only 270 or so miles. Towing it can be less than half. I drove one. It is fantastic. But until they boost the range it’s a no go.
Sam, I’ve got a number of family members in the building trades. The US is bringing in millions of low wage foreign workers to undercut living wage workers. Same with tech. And, oligarchs like Musk and Bezos get richer by not paying a living wage. Also, the costs is medical care are out of reach for most Americans and are driving more and more of us into bankruptcy. Add to this, the YS allows corporations and foreign billionaires to hide and launder money in our housing market. The result is that domestic and foreign investors have driven up prices by buying over a third of US housing. And, US cars and trucks, whether EV or ICE/hybrid, are too big and expensive anymore. Only about a tenth of American households can afford a new vehicle.
Charging network is still a problem. Tesla Superchargers are only available to non-Teslas in very limited locations. If they opened up the whole network I might consider a Lightning. Also the legacy auto dealership games are a huge turnoff.
Like Simon Sinek says, you have to start with Why. Buying a Ford over a Tesla EV is asinine. It’s not the product. It’s the story. It’s the idea. It’s the reason. It’s the vision. Ford wants to sell an EV car. Tesla is after something entirely different. Start with Why.
When they first announced the Ford F-150 electric the price was supposed to be $40,000. At that price I would have purchased one immediately. But now the prices are out of control and the return does not worth it. Especially since day lose so much value in the first two years of ownership, and most accidents will total the vehicle. Lower the price back down you'll have a customer
My friend says his f 150 is only good for 250 miles run time. I’m sorry but I feel I would be setting at a charger way to much, just can’t justify paying 100,000.00. Give me a battery that can haul a loaded trailer and a good range at a decent price and I’ll buy one. Until then forget it!
The problem at the ford dealership is sales people want to make as much money as possible so they can’t give money off the 50k truck 🛻 even know the gas ⛽️ with same options is 54k you can take 10k off the hold of the gas ⛽️ truck and the electric ⚡️ is full price could loose sales or they could sell the gas for 5k off and pocket the other 5k and the sales person makes more money 💴 lol 😂 it’s all about money lol 😂 ford has changed price so the might be going back to discount not shore but if you want money off the ev it was fixed like tesla.
I'm not sure. Towing is a huge issue for people who want one for non-work. The battery pack though huge doesn't give the mileage it needs. I want one, but they are still not exactly cheap either even with the discounts. For trucks the idea Chevy has is better because having a small motor that charges the battery to give more range is a great idea for a truck if used for towing.
You have to add interest rates on the loans and also insurance cost. Both have been rising here in the US. food and housing costs too. I work in NYC and it is unbelievable how much money the city spends on housing, feeding, and medical costs of the illegal immigrants. The federal government is printing and spending so much money the dollar is not worth much. job raises have not kept up with the cost of living expenses. So considering this, the average American can't afford a new truck. That is Ford's basic customer.
thats what happen when you print trillions to save "too big to fail" banks, run illegal wars all over, give all the bail out filter down money to the mega rich to invest in stocks, let inflation run wild to pay for it.....called paying the piper. Tax the rich and the corporates before everyone is homeless. How big is your armed forces?? The "illegal" aliens work for nothing and keep the rich end very very happy. Maybe should have not destabilized and destroyed every south american country for last 100 years, encouraged cartels to run them, allow drugs for arms deals run by the CIA and mafia, driven south america to wars, coups, drug wars, far right dictatorships etc that drove people out. The CIA and mafia run the drug trade in south america, as they did way back in Nam and then they had to start a war in Ghan to keep the supply. It all comes home in the end.
They should have put a small range extender in the frunk, people love the F150 but don’t love the lightning it charges to slow and its range is to short for the F150s typical buyer
I don't have space in the garage for a f150. I want an EV truck in the Maverick size. 250 miles of range. In the $35-40k price range. I own a Prius and my in city driving is done on the Ebike. The ranger pickup is in the back of the garage hardly used. Americans have a large group that is very slow in changing their life. They use old gas cars and trucks and use inefficient appliances and home heating equipment. The cost for energy is high when you use old equipment. So many Americans eat out all the time coupled with larger amounts of energy used they have no money to buy an EV truck.
I'm baffled as well. Lots of availability here in Canada. I know some people who drive an f150 who would save $1000/month of they got the electric version. For work with the electric outputs for tools and battery charging, it is very handy. The truck bed is too small. But the frunk adds so much storage space, as does the fold up back seats. You can get a pro for CAD 56000, and a flash with the bigger battery for about 75000. Good value I think.
My 1977 fj45 Toyota Landcruiser is by far the more superior truck than any EV truck/ute will ever be. I never have to update it in order to drive it. I just change the oil and the air filters and fill it with petrol in 3 minutes and get on my merry way with the walk of life. Cheers to the internal combustion engine.😂
Very hard to find one at dealer, must order one. No $400 oil changes. No Brakes and rotors to cost you $1500. Diss information and lack of charging infrastructure.
Great car but if you want to sell us on the future you have to make it look more futuristic, just slightly. The Silverado EV had a healthy balance of old and new. Plus, the UI/UX in Ford vehicles, those screens, look old and janky compared to the others car companies.
Ford didn't get their battery aquision act together and their prices are different than they originally promised. They touted a US$39,974 base price for the lightning. Never materialized. Prices without incentives start at $62,995 today. Also, the trucks are in reality huge 4-door luxury sedans with a puny bed in the back.
I would consider it, but they still use old-model batteries, and getting the heat pump enabled is more expensive than it should be. I am also waiting tesla charger not the ccs. Speed of charging is a factor
because they cost is way way WAY too much. Sure California, Texas and such rich states have large groups of wealthy people who can buy these. But saturation is already upon us at these prices. $80,000 dollars is not a good value for the general public. I can't believe he even asked this question. And they are not $57,000 dollars after incentives. Look at the website. The dealers are taking the money and then raising the local prices to unfathomable levels - double dipping.
Google used Cyber trucks for sale. The list goes on and on. When the novelty wears off will you do a video about how the Cyber Truck is not selling. The reservations are used up and delivery times are down to less than four weeks. The price now is around $80k. Maybe the average truck buyer is more conservative and anti-EV and an electric PU truck is a hard sell.
I'm ready to buy an EV truck before end of the year for tax savings and power back up purposes that's not the cyber truck or Rivian because I do truck/work things and know how much it costs to operate an ICE truck towing or not. I'm just waiting for Chevy to release more sanely priced and compelling models like LT, to push Ford to seriously discount. Just need another $5k off then I'm in.
most truck people want a truck for a truck.. so the people who would go to Ford for a truck dont want an electric or they want to tow or such.. not to mention the dealerships push the gad trucks or have been in the past. There have also been issues with many software issues so.. its good but many do not want electric for some stupid reason
It maybe because the people who buys these type of car often tows heavy loads and it has been proven the lightning do do this very well and some real world towing tests puts the range down to 100 miles
I see 100 times as many trucks without a trailer than I see with a trailer. Charging when traveling is the biggest issue. Is the charger atEA working. Not really NACS ready, still waiting for adapter.
Second comment. Ford needs to merge with Canoo! The Canoo, small, EV pickup design looks practical. Ford is making the classic mistake of traditional car manufacturers. Trying to shoehorn EV batteries into a traditional ICE chassis. And, they add too many bells and whistles and make the trucks too big. So, Americans who are increasingly poor cannot afford them.
Just like people from America, don’t understand ‘the world’, people from other countries don’t understand America and Americans. Our lifestyle’s, freedoms, geography, and other, make the F150 Lightning a hard pass for truck buyers. The reason the Cyber Truck outsells the F150 Lightning is the Cyber Truck buyer would have never considered a truck, had they Tesla never made the Cyber Truck. The Cyber Truck sales numbers are a rounding error compared to total US domestic truck sales. If you actually use a truck to make a living with it, no current electric truck is a viable option for more than 40-50 miles of use in the US.
The Ford 150 Lightning not selling. Ford are up against the Cybertruck. Sure, not everyone can afford the $100,000 or so for the Foundation edition, or the Cyberbeast - but my guess is people are waiting for the cheaper models to be produced, and not buying other trucks...time will tell....
man, can you actually read? are you deaf??? he just explained that. Its not ALL ev's, its THIS EV and he wants to know why. No wonder there are so many homeless. Cant work out how to open the door
An EV pickup is a pretty tough vehicle to build as a BEV if you plan to use it as a truck. While they can tow and haul heavy loads, they can't do it for very long. Personally I think as a shared platform model these are overpriced. While they are in the price range of comparable products I also think those are overpriced. Prices of pickup trucks in general have gone way up from say 20 years ago. They are almost sold as luxury cars now in the US & it is pretty easy to configure a pickup that is in the 80k + price range. It is really hard for me to justify spending that much money on a vehicle as vehicles are not assets. Anyway I think they are overpriced as a shared platform, especially if you plan to use this as a truck and tow or haul stuff.
I predict Jim Farley will ‘retire’ this year to spend more ‘time with family’. 😂 Don’t get me wrong, i like him, but he is at the helm of the titanic - it just won’t turn.
Too expensive, too short of a range. Too much time wasted sitting in parking lots charging it. Almost useless for long trips and utterly useless for hauling big loads or towing over any substantial distance. You will find yourself on the side of the road with a dead battery. In between cities.. America is too big and spread out. Also we have heavy loads to haul, we like to take trips with boats and campers and we value our time.. Nobody in Texas is going to buy this thing.and live with a constant range anxiety and the time stuck of constant charging and that's assuming ou can even find a charger when and where you need it. My experiment with EVs lasted 6 months. Traded it in on a hybrid.
In my eyes. Who in his right mind will trust a rip off brand like ford: they say its range is 380, but they don't tell that's only applicable if a helicopter flies you there. You need to leave your clothes at home and drive naked to reach 280km. And that's when new. Why i need a truck that can't carry groceries?
I'll help you out with why... it's a ford. Horrible after sales support, worse reliability in America than any other manufacturers, ECT. Then let's talk about the dealers always trying to get one over on you. I was interested in getting one, the dealer was trying to pressure me into buying a lighting, base model with 220 miles for $92k. It put such a bad taste in my mouth I'm not even interested any ford again. I doubt I will ever go to one of their dealerships again to be honest with you.
Awful battery, terrible charging speed, no charing network , range isn't there. Towing is brutal on the range. Nobody trusts dealers for good reason they exist to just take your money. Fix all that and make a Tacoma sized one too and that Can be done. They have a very s,mall window t9get it right.
Notwithstanding the high price, I consider my F150 Lightning XLT with a long range battery the smoothest running, most quiet, and best riding vehicle I have ever driven. The 3-cents per mile operating cost is noteworthy, too. Bottom line, it’s a great truck if you can afford the buy-in.
The range when towing sucks. It charges very slow. At home or work you have to have a dedicated 80 amp circuit to charge this puppy up overnight because of its huge battery. The hardware needed for the truck to backup your home power... using your phone app.... is costly and has had major wait times and issues once installed. The interior has nothing much different than Ford's ICE vehicles have... other than a large screen. The bed is too short for a real work truck. There have been a lot of recalls for Ford products in general lately. So why would anyone want a Ford truck unless they are only using it to cart around a large family and need to pickup some lumber from time to time? I will make a bet that if Ford just extended the bed and made this thing able to charge at 350 KW/hr that sales might pick up a bit. Assuming the buyers live near working 250-350KW fast chargers.
Wrong on the charging. I charge mine overnight on a 40 amp EVSE. Now I will admit it's public charging speed is a major letdown, but I use our EV9 for trips. All in all it's a fantastic truck for my use case. I use the trailer weekdays and it does what I need getting from jobsites to my house.
@@koryleach9660 Hmmm... point taken. So what is your opinion of why these trucks aren't selling? I don't know anyone personally that has one. I value your knowledgeable position.
@@nickmcconnell1291 I was tempted to get one, but went with a R1T instead. Main reason is slow charging at DCFC, especially considering the poor efficiency. Second reason is limited real-world range. I wouldn't mind the slow charging if it had over 400mi of range. And I wouldn't mind 260-270mi range if it charged at 250kw+. It has neither. Amongst the people I know who currently have trucks, range is actually stated as the limiting factor for the Lightning. Availability of charging stations is the second most important issue.
EV trucks are probably premature. The F150 has an undersized battery, to do a trucks job you need a monster battery like the Silverado's. The problem with that is the Silverado weighs 9000 f**king pounds and of course that sized battery costs a fortune. When batteries get better and cheaper the equation changes but for now an EV truck is a compromise. Ford sells to people who really drive trucks, thats why after the initial excitement the appeal had worn off. The Cybertruck is selling to a different crowd, I'd be willing to bet that its the first truck for many maybe most of them. They don't need a truck, they just want a cool vehicle that has steer by wire and FSD. On occasion they might take it to Home Depot to buy some plywood but they aren't towing boats or Airstreams. The Cybertruck is good enough to be a lifestyle vehicle, which makes it good enough for Tesla customers but its not good enough for truck people and it doesn't have to be. Ford and Chevy have to sell to actual truck people and that's a hard task.
Maybe they should cut out the middleman and just pay customers to take them
Still wouldn't want them.
Dealerships don't want to sell vehicles that don't need routine maintenance.

Nobody want regular boring truck with low tech spec.
Because, America.
Its not true ! I WANT ONE ! ...for 20 000 $
My friend says his f 150 is only good for 250 miles run time. I’m sorry but I feel I would be setting at a charger way to much, just can’t justify paying 100,000.00. Give me a battery that can haul a loaded trailer and a good range at a decent price and I’ll buy one. Until then forget it!
plenty of big rigs in europe do it
what you want cannot be done with batteries
I guess people just dont want them at the current price.
They should have put a small range extender in the frunk, people love the F150 but don’t love the lightning it charges to slow and its range is to short for the F150s typical buyer
anything will sell at the right price.
Check the battery warranty? Why do they still use antiquated batteries?
No. This is a very high price for a working truck. So it competes with personal vehicles.
Lighting is a good truck. Don't know why they aren't selling.
Why is Tesla model Y down 9.1% YOY.
sales are down across the board people are tired of US market
I don't have space in the garage for a f150. I want an EV truck in the Maverick size. 250 miles of range. In the $35-40k price range. I own a Prius and my in city driving is done on the Ebike. The ranger pickup is in the back of the garage hardly used.
Americans have a large group that is very slow in changing their life. They use old gas cars and trucks and use inefficient appliances and home heating equipment. The cost for energy is high when you use old equipment. So many Americans eat out all the time coupled with larger amounts of energy used they have no money to buy an EV truck.
Do they have a good heat pump now? I know the earlier ones had some cold weather range issues.
If you see me in a ford , you’ll know I’m dead !!!!!
Too expensive.
Too expensive to repair.
Too expensive to own.
What ford should be doing is making a $40,000 electric truck. They would sell.
2:04 Right wing reference
I saw them twice on the street.
Yep, I'm with you. Why put antiquated batteries in a new truck?
because they cost is way way WAY too much.
@@jefflethuman9794 maybe you do but they are just as bad with a full load just over a 100 miles range
NOT crazy. If you want a truck that actually works, every day, forget it.
Why buy new when you can get a used f150 ev for 40 to 50% cheaper for a used truck.
FORD service SUCKS...🤮. Do you think I would trust them to SERVICE an EV ⁉ 🤣🤣🤣
get rid of stealerships
Yea exactly. Recently bought a 2020 Ford fusion hybrid and was 18k mfs added shit up to 26k without my knowledge. Still pissed
@@RSX007 FORD + Found On Road Dead
price, slow charging & stealerships
It tows a small trailer for only 90 miles in the summer, why would anyone want one
bcz biden and kamala say so
Second comment.
If you actually use a truck to make a living with it, no current electric truck is a viable option for more than 40-50 miles of use in the US.
funny... electric big rigs run all over the states and europe.
and you get petrol for about free, so......
The Cybertruck was fueled by hype and was bought and flipped for profit. The original owners didn’t even keep them
Ford is not selling F150 of any type right now. They're too expensive
I laughed so hard that even my cat came over to see if everything was okay. Now she's a fan of this video too👅
We are broke over here😁
The Ford 150 Lightning not selling. Ford are up against the Cybertruck. Sure, not everyone can afford the $100,000 or so for the Foundation edition, or the Cyberbeast - but my guess is people are waiting for the cheaper models to be produced, and not buying other trucks...time will tell....
If ev sales are breaking records why do the makers have to pay dealers to take them????
man, can you actually read? are you deaf??? he just explained that. Its not ALL ev's, its THIS EV and he wants to know why. No wonder there are so many homeless. Cant work out how to open the door
do your research
Range range range
People who buy pickup trucks don’t want an electric…simple
Don’t get me wrong, i like him, but he is at the helm of the titanic - it just won’t turn.
The software is not good. Should make them barebone without the software.
Maby truck drivers would rather drive a tank (Cybertruck)?
I'll help you out with why... it's a ford. Horrible after sales support, worse reliability in America than any other manufacturers, ECT. Then let's talk about the dealers always trying to get one over on you. I was interested in getting one, the dealer was trying to pressure me into buying a lighting, base model with 220 miles for $92k. It put such a bad taste in my mouth I'm not even interested any ford again. I doubt I will ever go to one of their dealerships again to be honest with you.
The gas f150 is the best selling vehicle in America. Pickup buyers don’t want an electric truck
People who but working trucks, don't want EVs,it's as simple as that.
Awful battery, terrible charging speed, no charing network , range isn't there. Towing is brutal on the range. Nobody trusts dealers for good reason they exist to just take your money. Fix all that and make a Tacoma sized one too and that Can be done. They have a very s,mall window t9get it right.
The F-150 Lightning is a totally dysfunctional car. Good luck to all buyers.
