I used to buy police crown vics at municipal auctions in NM for around $1000 each with 100K miles on them. I used them as cabs and one point I had 13 of them on the road. I typically ran them up to 500,000 miles before I'd sell them off. Police crown vics (Interceptors) have P71 in the VIN vs civilian ones that have P73 in their VINs.
Thanks so much! I went to the auction after watching your tutorial and bought a 2011 Crown Vic. I used your advice and bought a jump starter beforehand. It really made a difference and allowed me to quickly filter out the lemons.
Glad you explained that cam thing with the sound because i thought about buying one online but all the ones i like have high idle hours and that's turning me away no matter how low the miles are
Just an FYI, you could get a 9C1 Caprice police package in 94-96 with the small 4.3 V8. Here in Denver the city cars often had the 4.3 but the cars stationed at the airport had the 5.7 engines.
I miss the live auctions. My public auction changed to online during Covid and never changed back. I have 3 clean, rust free P71's with cruise control that were deputy sheriff take home cars!
Just got myself a 2005 Ford Five Hundred from GovDeals and I'm trying to sell my 2003 Crown Victoria with 121k miles. Marketplace sucks but I would be happy to get $800
Last year I bought a 2017 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD, it was a NC State Patrol car. Had 131k miles, 1245 idle hours out of a total 4500 hours. Paid 12k for it. Did not have the Hemi tic. It’s been great!
@@streetratgarage Most of the state patrol cars here had about 6000-7000 total hours and over 2k idle hours. This was one of the few with low hours. They come with complete maintenance records. All I had to do with mine was get the front axles replaced.
I would have bid on some those Vic's, they went for a decent price being a well equipped car .. It could have been good content video to see how good of a deal you got as well..
The 5.3 powered 2007-14 Tahoes suffer from cam failures similar to the Chargers. The active fuel management system was a flawed design the led to premature engine failure. Let's not even get into the 6 speed transmission issues.
2006 to 2011 crown Victoria have top notch - built proof transmissions. 4r75e.... Any c.v. 2005 and down: expect to replace transmission multiple times
Any chance of a website for these cars I always wanted a white crown vic I had a 2008 baby blue one from Seattle and currently have a 2011 all black from well still trying figure it out but its from California
The name of the auction house is called Kessler Schaefer auto auction in Indianapolis. Just google that name and it’ll take you to their website where you can navigate to online auctions.
8:359:25 well... I guess I now know why the 1994 Thunderbird I have was that same gray color when i got it, the spec sheet was on top of the gas tank "very crusty paper could only vaguely make out the word Indiana out of the mostly washed out gibberish left on it". and the only thing wrong i found was the fuel injectors and pump went bad with the 8.8 axle shafts braking after an N/A tune up. they are only fast enough to catch up when the local dealerships re-tune everything locally on the new and used marked to comply with emissions standards as "grams of CO2/hr (56kg/hr) that is 1/4 that of the 150lb/hr of fuel those 4.6's will burn aka 213-450kg/hr CO2"
If that is just a city auction and not a dealer auction. That is some great prices. In this area a POS with 200,000+ miles on and they will try to get 2k + out of it.
Rumor has it that in the arab world, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, ... Crown Vics are a thing for their looks as they get tuned with their engines. I have ever seen some videos of them in Saudi streets
I have an 06 CVPI now has 257k miles. Mainly problem free cept for few normal issues. Also driven a Charger. The Charger is a better car. Batter turning radius, more nimble and more power (V8). But no way I'll keep the Vic no issues just drive it.
My county in Florida only has a sheriff’s department all the cities did away with their police departments and pay the county for law enforcement duties.
@@JimBuffalo there is another online auction site called govdeals.com. They have listings of several municipalities that are selling government vehicles. And this website is nationwide and you can bid online. So check that one out if you are looking for some police cars or government own vehicles.
Only state troopers and K-9 officers should be permitted to take police cruisers home. In town city and county cruisers should be parked at precinct or yard. I would imagine that the cops sit in the car with the air conditioning on so have to leave the engine running. It’s a shame because it damages the engine
The hemi engine does not do well when you leave it idle for a long period of time and this is exactly what a lot of police officers do. The low idling does not allow enough oil to get onto the cam and roller lifters, causing a roller lifter failure that leads to grinding the lobes off of the cam. this ticking sound is what you hear when the lobes are wearing out.

That’s a good question. I don’t have a good answer. You have to find a broker here I. The states that’s willing to buy cars for you and then set up shipping. Might not be easy. I you google that question for the answer.
Dodge ripped off Lots of Police Departments with the POS Charger. The engines are crap 💩. At 80,000 miles the cam is bad ? My 05 Kia has 195,000 miles and runs as smooth as brand new. I serviced it with Oil Changes every 5000 miles and used Castrol Synthetic. Older Chevys Trucks and Fords can go long way also. The new ones seem like they don’t have the Durability and are made Cheap.
Very surprised a country like the states Police keep cars so very long a 14 years old.Crown Vic so police must have had it at least 13 years. In Europe you don't see cars getting that old in the UK doubt you will see a Police car over 3 years old . If you do its due to leave and waiting to replaced. All Traffic type cars here until end of 23 were Bmw 330diesel.530diesel.& X5s , Bmw has refused to sell uk police forces any diesel..So back to Volvo's & Jags.
Well, it’s kind of like this. The country as a whole has a police force, every state and territory of the United States of America has a police force within those states are counties, which also have a police force within those counties are cities that have a police force within those cities Are townships which often have a police force there are also schools that have police forces. Each and everyone has their own budget and is responsible for buying their own vehicles. Some of those budget are larger than others depending on the management skills. There are a lot of places that do swap out their cars every few years or when the factory warranty runs out. There are others that don’t have the budget to do so, so they keep, what they have running as long as they can.
So you think that gray Crown Vic might've been sitting 2 to 3 years as you stated in the video and you started it and let it run with potentially bad gas in the tank that if so is now running through the injectors and through the whole car, nice. Apparently your not buying it, though it sucks for the next buyer with what you and probably every other person there is doing.
Every car there will be started by the auction and run for about 20 mins as it waits in line to go on the auction block. If you watched the whole auction, that same car was shown driving through the auction. The driver saw it was starting to over heat and kept on running the car until it was starting to rattle by the time they sold it. Then drove it back to the back lot. So that’s how things work at an auction. And what you need to be aware of before you buy.
Auctions are one of the last con games hoisted on the public. Always some wild cards in the bidding audience driving up the price and others winning the bid but turning the car back in to be bid on at a later date and to a different audience. Also like buying a pig in a poke, never really know what you are getting but can bet the auction house knows.
Great videos. In the 80s AND 90s I used to flip police cars and other fleet vehicles. My house used to look like a police station.

those crown vics are beasts. I would always recommend buying one. no problems finding parts
As a vic owner myself this is pretty much heaven for me especially with some of those prices which aren't bad at all
Most of our general duty patrol units in Brisbane Australia are Camry Hybrids, they are retired at 4 years or or 130,000k
That's young, especially since with a hybrid you're not racking up insane numbers of idle hours.
I wouldn't want a front wheel drive Police car!
Last of an Era. This is probably huge batch of Crown Victoria's you'll see for sale. Great automobile
Appreciate the video. Hadn't been to one yet but am interested. Thanks.

so was the 6.2 after 07

Those r some high milage squads ...
On cop cars you have to look at the idle hours as well. One hour of idle equals 30 miles on the road.
They do this every other month or so? Wow😮
