I'd been using this card's cousin, the RX 580, from early 2020 until last week. Big fan of these two cards, nowadays I'd prefer the 1060 because of longer term driver support and milder power requirements/usage. Thanks for showing the performance in newer titles, very interesting!

Rocked this card from Mid 2020-December 2021. Was really great. The upgrade was to another legend from the same series, a GTX 1080 Ti founders edition locally for just $250. Which at the time, was an insane price because of the massive GPU shortage. Loved both cards to death and the 1080 Ti is probably my favorite card I've ever owned.

I had a 1060 6gb sitting in my closet so decided to build a pc for my room since my main gaming rig is in the living room. I used a ryzen 5500 to pair with it and it’s killer for what I paid to put it together.

FSR3 is making older cards alot more possible to game with. My son uses my old GTX 1080 and Starfield with FSR3 he gets a good 60+ fps on a 1440p monitor with g-sync.

The GTX 1060 served me well from 2018 until last year (2023). I got into VR gaming which I still played for a while using my 1060 but I upgraded to the 3060 12GB. Then recently upgraded further to the 4070Ti Super for my VR gaming.

Still rocking the 1060 6GB in my gaming rig, and the 1060 3GB in my office rig. Also have a spare 1060 3GB. Been great for what I need. $40 dollars would be a great price!

Hi, older gamer from the UK here, I bought an Acer desktop with an i7 6700 for £40 & put in a 3gb 1060 for £60. It runs every game I own & with the money I saved I was able to feed my obsession with older graphics cards !

I had one of the most insane 1060's back in the day. It was that exact MSI model you feature at the start as well and it was able to get through 3DMark Firestrike at 2250MHz with the stock cooler.
I never saw anyone else reach those speeds.

Had a 1060 6gb bought it new in 2017 and used it until 2021. It was a great card. Never gave me any issue and performed beautifully.

The GTX 1060 is legendary. I've still got my EVGA 6GB SSC2 [ICX] that is no longer being used. Altho my RX 580 Nitro+ however is still being used in a budget build I made from spare parts. Both are excellent GPUs. My main rig is now using a RX 6600 XT Red Devil that kicks major ass tho.

My Favorite Card! Yay! Finally! I have only been reviewing the GTX1060 different models until just recently.
The Zotac is actually above many of the other offerings. This Mini model runs just as well as the AMP! version but in a compact size if heat is not a concern. In my opinion it outperforms the EVGA model, which is the closest competitor.
If you want to get crazy (like I did), you can swap a twin fan heatsink setup off of another 1060 or 900 series and have it cool even better.
PS, there are rumors you can flash the AMP! bios to the standard, to get a higher base clock. I haven't tried that. A mild overclock would be just easier.

I have the zotac 1060 6gb mini, and a zotac amp 1060 3 gb, but with dual fans with what appears to be a better heatsink as well. Would this be plug and play to just swap the heatsink? If I recall correctly the pcbs look very similar, so I have been thinking about swapping the heatsink over:)

I still have it. I build my PC in 2018. My PC is still working fine and I see no need to upgrade it
I paired it with Ryzen 5 2600x and 16 GB ram
    I played lots of games

you touched on it briefly, the GTX 1060 3GB is a surprising step down from the 6GB model, not just half the memory, but around 15-20% less shader performance and 10-15% less raster performance. people who bought a 1060 3GB have difficulties playing some titles now due to a combination of memory and performance while the similar GTX 970 holds a very slight lead most of the time. speaking of comparing it to the RX 580, which was AMD's upper mid range offering, it competes against the GTX 1070 these days due to driver optimizations and game optimizations, helped by a lot of consoles featuring AMD hardware. might be worth a follow up for your spin on an old school head to head competition of mid range GPUs :)

    • @nap8187

im still on 1060 6gb today i think im gonna get a used 3060 ti for an upgrade since im on a budget and 3.0 x16 PCIE, but i can say that still in esports titles like league, valo, fortnite i mostly run at 144hz on low competetive settings

i've been using my gtx 950 in my 2008 emachine for years now, figured i'd upgrade again somepoint but i haven't really played any games demanding enough. i tend to just play stuff like story of seasons/stardew valley/the sims and other then that it's all just mostly 2d indie games.

Still have mine, feels weird but it's fine for open world content, have it's lower vram cousin the paltry 3gb. I've moved on but still have it, holds a place as my first GPU (was in a prebuilt when I got it).

I have zotax mini 1060 6GB like this video, It still works well for playing 1080p esports games, but the heatsink with one fan which makes this VGA heat up quickly. I tricked it with undervolt to reduce heat and also make it more stable.

GTX1060 is still quite usable, the price can be very low. All of the 10 series cards are pretty cheap, I have begun finding 1080 (non Ti) for not much more than 1060/1070, people are offloading them cheap particularly on Facebook MP.

    • @UltraBudgetPC
      @UltraBudgetPC  5 днів тому

The 8gb RX 580 is probably the better option overall since it has more VRAM, is generally easier to find at a slightly lower price from my experience, and performs slightly better in more modern titles. The main disadvantage is that it just recently lost up to date game ready driver support whereas the 1060 still has it for a bit longer. Still, the RX 580 will probably be the better choice for a few more years in my opinion.

Fair point. I guess starfield has to actually be a fun game in the first place too.
