I have a 1070, and like you I'm in awe of how well it still performs in modern games. Great video.
this card still cost $250 in my country, but damn those card aged like a fine wine.
Yeah $250 is definitely bad value but if the price ver does drop, it could still be a good value. You're probably better off with a new card or something else where you're at.
just get the rx 6600 instead, it is much newer , it has better optimization for dx12 and vulkan and it performs better in every single game pretty much as well as having guaranteed longer driver support in the future.
NVidea really killed it that generation. Still using a GTX 1080 and it performs well with games at 1440p. Now I'm just waiting for a suitable upgrade.
If it's getting the job done, you can definitely take your time with the upgrade and still get a nice little chunk of change if you decide to sell the 1080
why are you looking for upgrade if it performs well ?
@crescentmoon256 dude it doesn't perform well at all in the latest games especially @2k you need to utilize render scaling techniques and make games look awful so u can get a playable experience
10 series still going strong
The 1070 can handle a lot, but it does struggle with some very recent games. I just retired my 1070 FE and that thing is definitely going on display. Was/is a beast of a card, and the FE looks nice.
Yeah if games are gonna get more intensive than some 2023 releases going forward, now is a good time for enthusiasts who still run with a 1070 to consider upgrading if they want the latest and greatest games. Still, I feel the 1070 will serve a spot in the budget segment for years to come
EVGA manufactured cards are intimidating when it comes to aethestics and also cooling performance. What a beast.
Evga left us to soon 😢
@@valnovilla4296 true bro I’ve always wanted one but never had the chance to purchase it. So sad.
At least Sapphire (the EVGA of AMD) is still around.
I love the way this generation of evga cards looked. The white 1070s and silver 1080 ftws look slick af. Have a 1070 Ti myself although it’s sitting on the sidelines atm because i upgraded to a 6800xt on prime day this year
Yes I feel the same about some of the older EVGA cards!
Today I received an exceptionally clean MSI GTX 1070 Gaming unit that I bought online for $70. I threw it into my i7-4770 budget HTPC and ran some benchmarks. It pulled an impressive score of 14131 on 3DMark Fire Strike. This is about 1000 points higher than the GTX 1660 Super than usually lives in my HTPC. There is no better price to performance GPU on the used market right now.
I loved the intro 'rant'. Amen, brother. Some folks just don't get this space in tech tinkering.
I love the card how it looks and how it runs. Great benchmark 👍
I bought a used 1070 Ti a few months ago for $120. I remember this used to be my dream card years ago, which I couldn't afford, because it was the MSI Titanium model which went for near $500. Damn fine card. Just make sure to check thermals when benchmarking, because you may need to replace the thermal paste and/or some thermal pads.
Currently running a RX vega 56 msi air boost 8gb, its suppose to beat the 1070 but cant seem to get its maximum performance due to how hot my card runs since its a blower style card sadly
Undervolting&Overclocking nvidia cards is quite fun and simpler to do than amd cards in my opinion (Had a GTX 1070ti)
Great video as always! I do wish you could showcase amd's old high - mid range gpus like the amd radeon HD 7000 gpus if u can find those at a good price
Hope to see you make another budget gpu showcase!
Good video. I just got 4 x 1070's for $80 Cdn each. They'll be good for some future builds.
(For those looking for a cheap budget card, just remember the 1070ti is closer in performance to the 1080 that the 1070.)
Yes the 1070 still sells great on budget builds for flipping!
Would love to see you do a video on the 1050ti 4GB.
Go 10 series!
Used a Zotac GTX 1080 Mini Amp Extreme 8GB Edition since 2017.
- It survived thermal throttling due to fans dying
- Multiple 1440p and 4k games over the years
- Loads of stress tests and even some overclocking attempts
I replaced the dead fans from spare parts I sourced from China since none were available here, I ended up removing the chassis of the 1080 because it was broken.
The card recently died a few weeks ago. Started giving me hardware errors everywhere. While it's naked, has new fans, and is extremely tiny, it's still one of the best purchases I've made.
Going up on display for sure.
It's an absolute beast
In my opinion, this and the RTX 3050 would be the same as the Xbox Series S not in hardware specs, but at the very least a goal: play all the games of this generation until the PS6 at 720p Low 30 FPS.
That's a good take!
@@UltraBudgetPC Yep, that is my opinion. But the 1070 value was crazy in 2016, a huge upgrade from the 970.
Nvidia for sure won't make the same mistake.
Yeah the 1070, 1080, and especially 1080 Ti were way ahead of their time in terms of what was available beforehand. 1080 Ti is still a powerhouse in its own right despite the lack of a lot of modern features
@@UltraBudgetPC It is indeed.
I have a 1070ti and it’s awesome, it runs a little hot because it’s the blower model, but overall pretty good, I’m getting 42-43 fps in new Atlantis. Playing with a 7th gen I7.
I just bought a mobo cpu combo yesterday. Its a R5 3600 and GIGABYTE Aorus Elite V2 for $170. I was thinking of pairing it with a 1070/1080/RX5700xt
The 5700 XT is one of the best values out there rn for used cards but it can be harder to get under $150 from what I've seen. The 1070 is probably the most widely available for closer to 1070 of the 3 you were considering but a 1080 might be a good bet too
If still using my 1080Ti,the GTX 10 series just doesn't die,I can still play games at 1440p with high enough framerate
I got a 1070 for my Ryzen 3 3200G system, I can play games like Palworld at max settings with around 40-50fps.
I managed to pick up the Ti variant for $50 locally . Still a capable card
Yeah I've seen some good 1070 Ti deals too though it's a less common card overall. Definitely amazing find for $50
Ironically the only way to end the 1070 and 1080 legacy is to stop supporting drivers and game companies using unsupported direct/programs like Alan Wake 2 is doing. It was just too powerful for it's time.
What's ironic about that? You want Nvidia and game makers to cater to your 7+ years GPU?
I rocked my 980 from 2015 till 2021 but it was obvious that I had to make an upgrade in order to play AAA titles with shiny new features.
@@technicallycorrect838 The irony is that they made a GPU that lasted for so long but now are releasing GPUS like the 1630 that are both not low profile and barely powerful for $130.
Ultimately Nvidia just made a card/s that was too good for it's time and now that generation is just starting to show it's she simply by lacking newer features rather than lacking the horsepower. I do agree that the release of the 1630 was a completely opposite type of move that shows Nvidia cared more about making money than releasing a quality product or at least one that positively contributed to the market.
its not ironic it's has been this way, there was never a gpu in history that was supported for 10 years
the longest was for 9 years and it's an amd card
It's impressive how the 1070 is still relevant.
Still I'm curious how it compares to the Vega 56, as where I live are below 100$
I might have to take a look at the Vega 56 at some point 👍
Great video! I have a GTX 1060 6GB paired with an i7 8700k and I'm happy with the performance that I get. What would be a good GPU to pair with the i7 8700k when I'm able to upgrade?
Lol. There is no good or bad GPU. Just the one that fits your budget. When you decide on the budget, you don't have much to choose from. But overall, Nvidia X060-X070 series are most optimal in price-performance category.
Yeah it all depends on what your budget is and if you'd rather buy used or new. If you just wanted a cheaper but solid pre-owned upgrade, I'd recommend something like a 1660 Super/Ti, a 2060, or 5600 XT. On the higher end for used cards, I'd recommend a 5700 XT, RTX 2070/Ti, or even a 3060/Ti if you could find a good deal on one. For new cards, the RX 6600 is a great value if it performs well enough for you otherwise some more powerful "budget" options would be something like a 4060/Ti or RX 7600. There's obviously a ton of options out there these are just a few that came to mind that could pair will with an 8700k. I suggest doing research and decide what cards fit your budget and your needs best.
Nah
The RX6650 is a great deal for that CPU
Yeah just saw a 6650 XT for $220 on sale this week which is absolutely ridiculous.
Still rocking my 8gb 1070.
I simply don't need more.
Still rocking my 1070 and its the best investment I ever made.
What CPU do you have?
@@BREEZYM6015 Ryzen 7 3700X
@@MrJolaf22 how is the cpu holding up? and do you run it at stock ot overclocked?
@@mr.savage778 Can't complain at all, got it used from a friend for 100€ about a year ago to replace my 1600X (which was still going good as well but for that price i wouldn't say no).
But keep in mind that I am not really doing high end gaming or things, pretty much always the 1070 is the 'bottleneck'.
But especially for 65W i can absolutely recommend a 3700X at a good price :)
Edit: also i am running it in stock
The 1070 is starting to finally show some age, but it still runs like a beast.
Yes! I feel it is still great for an entry level gamer looking to play in 1080p as long as it fits their needs in terms of playability.
If it had more ram id so buy one just so i could stop running out of vram on modded Skyrim. 6 gigs is great for most games even the new ones but when you use almost 1k mods its definitely not fun.
it wont run alan wake 2 well as it doesnt have mesh shaders, future title which use mesh shaders will also suffer. 1660ti is also good alternative but u dont mind 6gb vram
After testing nearly every gtx 1060 in existence, I really want to find a gtx 1070 for a reasonable price.
Im scoring 1660 ti and supers for 50$ left and right right now. What a time to be a pc builder
Those are some insane deals. I've gotten a 1660 for $60 and a few $40 1060s but my local market isn't as rich as yours I guess. Either way, it's incredibly fun getting these great deals on older parts.
where do you find em?? i cant find shit 😭
marketplace and offer up the 1660 and 1650 are silly cheap right now@@unreal4175
Sadly, valheim doesn't run smooth on this card. Looking for some upgrade.
G'day UBPC,
🤔Interesting 1660Ti & 1660Super are more expensive where you are, down here they are an easy find at $150AUD & every now & then can get down to $120AUD where as 1070 is generally $180AUD but mostly over $200AUD, so unless you really need that extra 2GB VRAM they are better value for us.
Yes they are priced very similar in the US rn on the used market, I have just personally seen more 1070 falling under $100 USD whereas the 1660 series card generally go for $110-$120 on the lower end tho I have seen good deals on them on occasion.
I doubt you can play Alan Wake 2 on that GPU. But kidding aside. I've been using 1070ti and i can play in ultra or High in any game.
Yeah probably one of the three games it can't play lol
@@UltraBudgetPC even if you run it on vulkan you can't even play it on 30fps. Lol. Btw been using hdd for other games it seems nowadays you can't play smoothly in hdd.
the fact this and the 900 series still get driver support, but vega is basically done is quite comical, my friend got an old 1070ti as an upgrade from a 1060 3gb, massive difference
Yeah anyone who bought Vega or Polaris in 2016-2017 over a high end Pascal card is punching air rn
@@UltraBudgetPCmy friend got one in Feb 2020 (Vega 56) just before prices skyrocketed, as an upgrade to a GTX 970, we both know which one still gets driver support...
You should have checked alan wake 2 - one of the most demanding games.
Yeah it's one of the newer titles I don't yet have. From what I understand, it's one of the very few games the 1070 currently can't handle and it's more based on a lack of the newest Rendering APIs and features vs actual overall power and speed which is just a tradeoff of aging hardware.
@@UltraBudgetPC yeah, i saw posts online claiming it's playable with vulkan.
From what I've seen, it'll run very poorly 😅
i recommend you get the 1660 ti instead
Not a bad reccomendation. It's a very similar performer with slightly newer hardware. Probably a better value overall.
less vram tho
@@pikkyuukyuun4741 what games are you playing that makes you go over 6gb?
@@xxkinggettyxx vrchat, modded ac
Anything but alan 2
Estimated 99.7% of to top 1000 games so yeah lol
5600xt is the better option
It definitely is, especially as a much more modern release. I would almost recommend the 5700 XT more due to the big jump in performance, but it'll cost a bit more normally. The 1070 is more widely available for less than the 5600 XT from what I've seen which makes at an option worth considering at least.
Looks like a power house. I hate my Current 1060 3gb really wish i never got rid of my old build with 2080 super 🫤
Yeah you're probably looking for an upgrade soon. Prices are coming down on some more modern new and used stuff.
