The thing about proprietary power supplies and motherboard connections is usually due to connector pin configurations - and there seems to be a cable for every occasion. I think I may be more comfortable with this because I tinkered with Macs long before ever cracking a PC, and Mac is like, well, proprietary hell in most cases. These office PCs have much cheaper adapter cables and much less stringent requirements compared to the late era PPC machines that I still love working on, but often cheap out on, LOL. Also, I can not express enough, as a four decade long cRPG gamer how much I absolutely love seeing Baldur's Gate 3 used as a metric for benching hardware. It is not an FPS, the graphics are really great but it also taxes the CPU with numerical calculations due to NPC shenanigans. I never thought I would see the day where a game that I PLAY was considered a metric (yeah, I've been really stuck there for 40 years, don't judge, LOL).
@@christopherjames9843 I'm largely with you, though I have a soft spot for early Intel systems as well. The 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 is perhaps the best computer they ever made, though the G4 Mirror Drive Door is probably my all time favorite.
Excellent build as always. Great job with the writing, very smooth. I feel like I have imposter syndrome right now since I did buy a prebuild as well for an upcoming video that I plan on doing. Hyper budget builds are always fun to do with these sorts of old configured systems, and I hope to see newer hardware hit the market as time goes on. Great content, keep it up!
even though upgrading an old office pc for gaming may seem dumb for some people , i really enjoyed my time doing that and tbh it enabled me to be able to game the past 4 years, since i really was tight on budget. Also resurrecting an old system like that and giving it a second chance instead of throwing it in the recycling (that some people may do) is something i respect and its also a good learning experience if you are new to computers and want to learn about them
G'day UBPC, With the GTX1650 LP we have the same situation of if you can find one they are STOOPID expensive (over $200AUD) & get snapped up instantly, Quite often it is easier to pay a little more for an ATX Prebuilt & just get a cheaper 1060/1660/1660Ti ($100-$150AUD) + 500W PSU ($60AUD) & you get way better gaming performance.
You can put the 240w psu from the 800 G1 sff in the G2, there doesn't appear to be any other good choices, the psu and motherboard connections are proprietary. I have an 800 G4 sff and a 250w psu, 400 and 500w are available but I'm guessing they will not fit as I can't find any information.
Yes I found similar information regarding the 240w unit. It only gives me a small bump which is not really with it to me. I may explore the potential for trying a flex ATX unit or something of that sort of there are adaptors for the motherboard connectors.
Yes. I am very interested in purchasing one of them at some point as well as an arc a380 lp. My goal is to collect all the relevant low profile cards including the 4060
Down here in Australia 3050 LP are $350AUD, you can get a GTX1660Ti for $150AUD off Ebay with better performance & not like you can "RT ON" with a 3050 either
If you can even get it to run, the performance will be a$$. Intel graphics cards require Intel 10th gen cpus, pcie gen 4, and ReBar enabled... Old PC's don't have any of that. Just like the 6400 lost performance on pcie gen 3, when it needs pcie gen 4...

PPC Macs, 604e's G3's, G4's and G5's were mostly great machines. Today's Macs suck.

I'd look into recently produced desktop series that have more modern parts, so like 2016-onwards if the price is right.

just buy a new 3050 6gb low profile, it's under 190 anyway and out performs both 1650 and rx 6400. Also it has 2 more gigs of VRAM.

The a380 and the lp 3050 6gb may be potential options I look to try out in the future with this system 👍
