Dear Autoguide and other other automotive journalists, your old jokes about Buick, and Cadillac, are getting old and stale. Evaluate the cars for what they are. Btw, the Buick here actually looks quite fine. Bias is a hell of a thing.
Amen... She's picking on the Buick but it still out sales the mini... The Encore has been a hit since it came out.... The only thing I hate is Buick is discontinued the Verano which was another good seller in its segment...
Since I am an educated millennials who actually drives a BUICK, I have credentials to say the following: STOP LETTING MILLENNIALS DO REVIEWS OF BUICKS. That is part of the problem in our world today. The millennials have no idea what the hell they are talking about. I'm 23 and would pick the BUICK over the MINI any day! Why? I'm glad you asked. Buick is more reliable. Buick is a historic brand that has withstood the test of time and Buick is true class. Millennials need to grow up and realize that what is cool looking and fast isn't what makes you cool. When you grow up and get a respectable job and have kids those cars become worthless. I would much rather have a comfortable and smooth ride in a BUICK.
Love my Buick Encore. This is the second one I've had. And I'm a boomer. Us boomers grew up with true V8 muscle cars so this little twit has no idea what she is talking about.
@@ALXMARTIN I am close in age to you and I drive an Encore! It is safe, fun, but reliable to drive! Everyone thinks it's an old person car, but it is far from it! I love my Encore!
And, clearly, you've never driven a real mini.... Say, a convertible or the regular Mini Cooper. No one, and I mean absolutely no one, drives a Mini to be "cool," or to impress you or anyone else. Lol. We drive it for ourselves, and for the driving experience it gives. It's no "chic magnet." Haha. Further, your "opinion" on long term value is mistaken.... 2013 base model Encore (1st year Encore was available) value is 830 dollars LESS than a 2013 base model Clubman. 2013 base Clubman The larger Clubman is a little less peppy and agile than the smaller models, but not much.
I have never left a comment before, but this review left me wondering if AutoGuide is sponsored by Mini. At the beginning it was stated that Buick outsells Mini 6 to 1 and left unmentioned in this reports is why: 1) Buick similarly equipped to the Mini is about $7000 less, 2) Buick has better crash test results, 3) Buick has higher reliability, 4) the Buick has less road noise, and 5) as the video stated Buick’s control layout is simply better than Mini’s. I understand the reviewer liked the looks of the Mini more than the Buick, but an auto review needs to be based on more than looks. The review did mention handling and gave points to Mini for its sport handling, however driving both the Buick and Mini I came to a different result. Mini can swing around a corner at high speed better, but the price for high speed turns is ride comfort. In the Mini you will feel every bump, the suspension doesn’t have enough travel. Buick’s handling is better than its price point competitors like the Honda CRV, but not as good as luxury small SUV’s like the Volvo xc40. The same can be said for the Mini, except the price point is closer to the XC40. However with Buick’s lower price and average sale price between 4,000 and 5,000 below MSRP the Buick is a very tempting buy. The Mini with the average sales price $1,200 below MSRP sells for the same price as the GLA, Q3, XC40 which are all better SUVs. In sum Buick Encore outsells Mini because it is a better SUV for the dollar spent than the Mini. Additionally many buyers want reliable and safe autos over cool looks.
Subjective and bias mini video. Listen, the mini is awkward and the Buick is classy. Funny how she says the Encore is safe, boring, and dorky. Sounds like she's self reflecting.
The Buick Encore beats the Mini by far I would choose the Buick over the Mini cause the Mini is Ugly doesn't have the technology like the Buick like Bose system and better infotainment system. I'll NEVER buy a mini because they trying to copy Porsche headlights and they didn't do it right but I'll definitely pick the BUICK ENCORE
Mike Jr Back in 2017 when I choosing my first car, I had 2 options; either get a 2015 Buick Encore or a 2015 Mini Cooper Countryman. The Countryman and the Encore both drive great, but the Countryman that I drove didn’t have as many features that the Encore has, like a upgraded infotainment screen, and like I said, they’re both 2015 models. So I went with the Buick Encore. Maybe in the future, I’ll get a Mini for a family car. But we’ll see.
It's amazing how much cheaper the Encore is to lease. Just got a 2017 encore w/ AppleCarPlay $129/mo with $1500 down vs $299/mo with $2800 down for mini, not even a competition
I love my Encore and I love the standard 50,000 mile bumper to bumper and it’s a top reliability pick . So I will happily give up all that Mini Style and Mini is notorious for repair issues.
"So if you want driving dynamics" -- If you really want driving dynamics, then you will buy a decent car with a stick, not a cramped mini crossover with an automatic.
I cannot believe that you honestly think that the Buick is ugly while you believe the mini is good looking? Seriously one of the ugliest and least productive cars on the market.
Frankly, I prefer the Buick Encore’s upright SUV design. That is way I’m shopping for a CUV. I actually shopped both the Mini Countryman and Buick Encore. For the same optional features, the Countryman was actually closer to $30k vs Encore’s $26k msrp. For lease, the local Mini dealer quoted me $3900 down and $380 per month lease. I questioned the high down payment and high BMW like lease payment. The dealer responded that Mini is a niche product and you will pay the high lease payments nevertheless. Wow, and the dealer allowed me to walk out and into the Buick dealership across the street. Finally, I dealer that is interested in moving vehicles off its lot. The Buick dealer offered me less than 1/3 the down payment of the Mini and sub $200 lease payment. I Moreover, the Buick Encore has a high predicted reliability and 7 years 70k powertrain warranty. The Mini has a low predicted reliability and only 4 years 50k powertrain warranty. Guess what. I drove home with the Buick Encore that day. Sorry Mini, let the brainwashed millennia buy the overpriced Mini with the low predicted reliability vehicle. I want to get the most bang for my bucks and avoid the mechanic as much as possible. That is why I brought the Encore. It is number 2 selling compact SUV because it is a good value and the dealers want to sell!!!! Not like the stupid Mini dealer that want to rip you off and tells it I. Your face that they will be ripping you off. Their defense? You are buying Mini. No thanks! Went with the Buick Encore and it is a very good vehicle!
The CX5 will have both starting in September, and early adopters of the 2017 will get a free update to their infotainment system at that time. That being said, it's pretty sad many people pass on a car for that reason alone.
The Encore has $9,000-12,000 cash on thr hood in the states. Making it around $20K and providing a more luxury ride than economy cuv's and a longer, standard warranty.
Why People don’t consider Mazda? I was a former Mazda owner, and the reliability especially with the turbo engine was terrible. My Mazda SUV was literally falling apart after 60k. I was spending $2k in repairs every other month. Then, the turbo engine failed because of poor design. There was a class action lawsuit against Mazda for the early failure of the turbocharged engines. Terrible reliability but it looks nice and was quite sporty. But I lost money because I had to sell the Mazda before I paid off my loan. Never again Mazda.
I think the Mini is ugly too. I’m a more practical car buyer so I take into account reliability, comfort, technology, cost to own, and resale value. All of those things considered, the Mini doesn’t stand a chance against the Buick.
I just bought the Encore over the Mini. Price, features, more conventional styling and more dealer networks were strong considerations and factors. The Encore isn't that boring if you push it at it's limits and spool 3k rpm or better and use the stick in manual. The ride is great and has a nice balance. I could see how a Mini could be appealing, as a cheaper alternative to a BMW however, with it's sportier driving dynamics and fun factor. Good review.
I have the 2019 Buick Encore and it pretty much loaded even going with the base msrp. With huge rebates, it is a very good deal for a very well done executed compact SUV.
When u ask up front if 1 vehicle may have a fair chance in the shootout....then it doesn't have a fair chance. Btw 2019 encores are selling at 16.7k$ right now in October 2019. Mini likely cost 6k more.
The Mini Clubman is far too exclusive in who they want to attract to the brand. It doesn't have the mass appeal that the Encore can carry. Mini as a brand wan't you to be fashion forward (Cough Jodi) with a desire to put off the impression you frequent the ski lodge and trendy coffee shops but dabble in spirited driving too. Mini has snubbed a lot of potential customers this way. It really shouldn't be surprising the Buick outsells the MIni. The Buick is down to earth and easy to approach by comparison. Factor in price and accessibility and it's a no-brainer.
The Mini "doesn't take itself too seriously", and that's exactly how you should take this review. How many times did she need to express her disbelief that the Buick outsells the Mini? So according to her, the Buick "does what it needs to do", and "there's nothing wrong with that". And also, the Buick doesn't do fun, not that it needs to. Yet she drones on and on and on and on and on and on about how boring the Buick is. If you're really looking for a CUV review, I can save you some time. There is nothing of substance to see here.
She forgot to mention the Buick comes with a 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty . Much safer buy if you ask me . Consumer Reports constantly puts Mini at the bottom of the reliability lists
What you are missing with this review is the value combination that the Encore offers. For far less money than the Countryman, Buick offers the quietest sub compact SUV with surprising cargo capability. Buick did not try to create a driver's car with the Encore, but instead created a premium feel that is budget friendly even with a few of the bells and whistles. The huge disparity in sales proves that the largest segment of the market prefers premium features at value pricing over driver engagement and elongated styling lines. It is not a choice of boring as opposed to exciting unless you value driving engagement more than anything else.
She loves that mini so much, let her own it when it is out of warranty. She'll go broke keeping it on the road. I'm an automotive technician by trade, I speak from experience. Terrible review by the way.
A couple of missed points about the Encore after we enjoyed our Buick Lease Experience 2-years lease. The front passenger seat folds flat for almost 60 cu ft of storage. And thr other previously mentioned is the $9,000-12,000 discount plays a big role when it comes down to buying. Our 2013 Encore would see almost 40 mpg at 60 mph....with AWD. It was super efficient when your foot wasn't in it, but would see 28 mpg cruising PA-76 at 95-105 mph. We have a 2016 Envision Premium 2.0T now and really enjoy it. While thr inlaws picked up a used 2015 Encore AWD.
I’m just going to throw this in... the mini is a nice looking good driving car. Having said that, for the money, with rebates, the Buick is the sensible choice. It’s also quiet and handles decently. It’s also several thousands less before rebates.the mini doesn’t offer Apple car play. The mini tested at 41k. I’m no idiot. For that price there are actual premium vehicles that offer so much more. If you plan on keeping the car after the warranty, choose the encore . Or anything not German. If you actually have a true middle class income with real bills to pay, the mini is not feasible. If you’re young and single and buy into the hype, plan on asking mom and dad for a little help with those repair bills. They will probably go along with it and say I told you so..... unless you turn around and do it again. Then you’re on your own....
Mini on the UKL platform is at BMW quality level, much better than Buick especially the Encore which is just awful looking. Although I'm still mad at BMW for only giving Mini the low power versions of the 2.0l. They can easily get to 250hp, look what VW does with their 2.0l in the Golf R and even GTI.
SS S It should be pointed out that the Encore is basically a South Korean Daewoo (aka a tarted-up Spark). I'd rather have BMW's trickle-downs, than Chevy Korea's lipstick-on-a-pig.
A better comparison would be the Ford Escape vs the Buick Encore. But from the start, you wanted this 'review' to be Mini-centric. You should have replaced the Buick with a Mazda CX-3, Toyota Yaris or Nissan Versa Note.
I think age and also money factor are often overlooked by auto reporters. Most auto reporters are young and like cars like I was young once. When you work in automobile industry that gets to drive a lots of car, I think it’s very easy to lose focus on reality and dollars and sense. Sure Lamborghinis and Porsche’s are great drivers car, but how are they as daily commuters? I personally had some expensive sporty cars that I was fortunate enough to commute with, and my perspective have changed. I went from BMW Z4, 528, 4RUNNER, GTI, MR2 to now I think Challengers, Sedona, Encore, Impala, Genesis, Sorrento are fine autos. I don’t work in automobile industry anymore but I get to drive a variety of Hertz Rentals. Brand that has disappointed me the most are Land Rover, Jaguars, Nissan, and Toyota. I think Korean brands, American cars are often over looked. Oh ya, I currently have a MBZ GLS450 I think I will replace with 2 cars, Challenger and Sedona.
Minis have always been girl cars and you let a girl review it? I feel this is very biased here. The only people I ever see driving them is 40 and 50 year old women, usually single or divorced. I just don't feel older or more mature people want a cute tiny car and thus why they sell so much better.
America for the Americans right? I do drive an Encore and have tried the Mini. I agree the Mini is more fun but tooo pricey (even a quick research on maintenance costs tells me its even worst for the Mini). I want a fun weekend I would rent a Mini but never own it. I know younger drivers might disagree and they would love to have the fun drive out in the driveway everyday....
Nice comparison! Both vehicles seem pretty neat, but almost have completely different customers. All in all, though, both vehicles have their upsides and their downsides! Also, that cut at the end was hilarious! 😂 I cannot wait to review these vehicles! Keep it up! -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽
So you only have a pulse if you're under 60? @jodi I know you're still young, but I hope you grow up if you plan to make a career as a professional journalist. Insulting your readers is not remotely professional. Substitute misogyny for the ageism you displayed and imagine how funny that would be. It would also be more professional for you to fully disclose that you're a Mini owner/lover.
I just have to go with the encore because last year and it was one of my favorite cars but I didn’t like mini because the a pillars are straighter than the encore and I rly don’t like cars that have a black or straight a pillar like all minis it’s not that there not safe or anything like that I just find that annoying like in Land Rover too it also makes the cabin smaller because it’s straight instead angled downwards and minis are just way too expensive I can buy a base 2018 base BMW X3 for the minis price or a loaded BMW X1
O Buik, é fantastico, lembro-me de o pai dizer que o avô, as vezes andava num Buik, talvez se eu conseguir comprar outro carro vá comprar um Buik, tem um nome maravilhoso e um motor para toda a vida.
Lol at the notion that the mini is a driver’s car. A Lotus Elise is a driver’s car. The countryman is an overpriced fwd drive econo box with bad reliability.
I'm sorry but that Mini and all mini cars are just not very pretty, actually ugly I should say! Plus I'm sure it's not reliable as the Mini Cooper's! The Buick is nice, stop knocking it!
Adeus
So it appears that the market is drawn into " boring vehicles" and the Encore is for folks over 60 . Terrible review ,in the future, i would suggest you do your homework and provide a proper review and not waist anyones time ....
There seems to be a CLEAR bias towards the Mini. How about some non-biased, fact reporting?
“The Mini on the other hand looks fantastic.”
Sorry, what?
Dear Autoguide and other other automotive journalists, your old jokes about Buick, and Cadillac, are getting old and stale. Evaluate the cars for what they are. Btw, the Buick here actually looks quite fine. Bias is a hell of a thing.
Amen... She's picking on the Buick but it still out sales the mini... The Encore has been a hit since it came out.... The only thing I hate is Buick is discontinued the Verano which was another good seller in its segment...

keri ellerbe I know! They need to stop, it's just silly now.
I drive a mini and I would pick the new encore over the new countryman. No premium price or premium gas. Much softer ride on the surface street.

Bill Yates completely agree
Bill Yates the Buick looks like a Mazda. totally stole it from Mazda. Buick body looks funny.
Pretty sure Mazda came out after the Buick
J Mazda had that kodo design first.
Not sure where Mazda is in this design. To me the Buick looks boring. The mini looks much more interesting even if it is a little boxy
I like the look of the Buick, but it's nose is weird to me.
Why u so butt hurt by the Buick?
What a horrible biased review. And that stab at the AARP set is pretty bad. Trying too hard to be funny and ironic.
The Mini has 5 airbags. The Buick Encore has 10.
35k for that Buick, unbelievable. I would rather have a roomier and more fun to drive fully loaded CX-5 for that price.
The CX-5 doesn't offer Apple Carplay or Android Auto. That takes if off of a lot of people's lists.

The mini is absolutely hideous!😩 Which is why the Encore sold more. 😂

can you compare 2021 Countryman with 2021 Encore GX ?

Our 2013 Encore would see almost 40 mpg at 60 mph....with AWD. It was super efficient when your foot wasn't in it, but would see 28 mpg cruising PA-76 at 95-105 mph.
We have a 2016 Envision Premium 2.0T now and really enjoy it. While thr inlaws picked up a used 2015 Encore AWD.
The ecotec motor it's really ship you can see the same in the Chevrolet Sonic
Should not have compared against the S model. Apples to oranges.
I'd rather have BMW's trickle-downs, than Chevy Korea's lipstick-on-a-pig.
woman like mini for sure
You need to state right off the bat that you are a kid. This is a kids point of view.
Mini is what got me into cars. I love the new countryman and it looks way better (its all about opinions though)
As was pointed out at the beginning, this is an unfair comparison, and the snide ageist comment at the end was completely unnecessary.
Minis have always been girl cars and you let a girl review it? I feel this is very biased here. The only people I ever see driving them is 40 and 50 year old women, usually single or divorced. I just don't feel older or more mature people want a cute tiny car and thus why they sell so much better.
After reading the comments I am clicking off your review and never watching you again lol
She looks dorky herself.
Nice comparison! Both vehicles seem pretty neat, but almost have completely different customers. All in all, though, both vehicles have their upsides and their downsides! Also, that cut at the end was hilarious! 😂
I cannot wait to review these vehicles! Keep it up!

"The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽
ask a mini owner what they spend on repairs.
$41000 is just the cover charge. then.....$$$
even if you’re just buying parts and fixing it yourself.
Sorry rather have the Buick encore it better
da jo ur opinion. fact is,the mini is the better car
@@AlienNinjaPuppy Nope, that's just your opinion too.
The mini is an engineering night
The mini is bmw so you know it's going to be a piece of shit. I will never buy anything from them again.
yummdiddy couldn't agree more
have you owned a BMW, no.
Jaylen Bond who are you? For everyone else reading this I've owned a bmw and have family who have and still do. We like Cadillac, Audi, and Porsche.
Stick with comments about the cars and not people.
Where's Craig?
My vote is Buick encore
Mini all day!!
So you only have a pulse if you're under 60? @jodi I know you're still young, but I hope you grow up if you plan to make a career as a professional journalist. Insulting your readers is not remotely professional. Substitute misogyny for the ageism you displayed and imagine how funny that would be. It would also be more professional for you to fully disclose that you're a Mini owner/lover.
allierogers I've seen three of these Encores and all driven by women well in there 60s.
ok review but.......she put to much of her personal opinion in it she should had just did the review of the mini alone, just saying
The buick is less than $200 per month and less than a thousand down to lease. That's why!
Aye 👋
Wow the Encore is expensive and gutless
I just purchased the Encore. Yes, I am over 60. lol
Ok, neither of these cars are that good looking, but how can she say the mini CLEARLY looks better.
The mini is too expensive
Looks like a Vaxhaul grandland x
I like the old countryman better
The battle of the ogres!
Mini = overpriced POS. Their reliability is. T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E! They could learn a thing or two from Honda (and maybe Buick)... haha
>reliability
Looks are subjective, reliability is not and the Mini brand sucks for durability and high cost maintenance.
Although they're not in the same class, for $41k i'll take the 2017 Forester XT 2.0T over the mini countryman.
I love her reviews she is really good
The mini is ugly in my opinion. The Encore looks way better with all the nice curves.
that mini ain't reliable and they high $$$
yes! the buick looks odd
Christopher Deguzman and you think the mini doesn’t?
Lol at the notion that the mini is a driver’s car. A Lotus Elise is a driver’s car. The countryman is an overpriced fwd drive econo box with bad reliability.
judy!!!!
Fire the girl who compared these 2 cars.
Why are you even doing this video? Please find something else to do because you’re opinion doesn’t mean much anybody.
