The regular 1.4L turbo is adequate for the purpose of this vehicle. We have a AWD Preferred model and get 30mpg combined. On a a 1700 mile drive that included driving up to 4700ft on some mountains I averaged 33 mpg.
I got a 2017 Encore Preferred AWD, got it new for $16,750. Has to be the cheapest New AWD vehicle. I'm not in love with the look of it from the outside, but it looks great from the driver seat, and drives nice. Good deal if you ask me. But I don't think its worth $26,000 so DON'T PAY THE STICKER PRICE!
As a kid I loved watching motorweek on PBS. At that time there were not any other options, now these videos, with the exact same format, John Davis’ voice almost sounds as if he’s reading a script put together by the manufactures. Of all the cars reviewed in the decades of MotorWeek, they really haven’t driven a complete pile of garbage?! Heck, they probably even complemented the Aztec’s ‘futuristic rugged design’ back in 2005. Motorweek, be more conservative with your compliments, more direct with criticisms, and I bet you’ll grow audiences with more sincere reviews.
According to the latest consumer reports this model has a much better than average reliability rating. BUICK has several models that have done very well. Being Japanese doesent
Got this as a rental at hertz not bad at all but the transmission is awesome very slow to change gear kills any momentum that you can get out of this 1.4T
Please review the 2016 / 2017 Chevrolet Spark. It's an all new redesign that's monumentally different than the original Spark. I LOVE MotorWeek reviews and would really enjoy seeing the new Spark put through it's paces.
Not sure about your area, but St. Louis dealers are adding $4k discounts, on top of $6k+ factory incentives. Some are reporting sub $15 prices in the forums. So that.
Well it does have over 170 torque at a fairly low RPM. That is what will launch the vehicle. The 158HP FWD model will get to 60 in 7.8 seconds and the AWD is 8.6 seconds. It is only .9 seconds slower then the NX for less money and also doesn’t require premium gas unlike the Lexus.
What a weird car. It's supposedly a luxury vehicle, but it's a subcompact? It's almost as weird as the old Chrysler LeBarons from the 1980s. I bet they'll disappear after 10 years.
Whats really weird is the little chicken leg arm rest attached only to the driver's seat, leaving the passenger seat with nothing, And no console just a pathetic little plastic cubby hole thing behind the emergency brake. The identical opel/vauxhall mokka in Italy and the UK as a nice center console/arm rest for both driver and passenger. Seems these big auto corporations always shaft Americans on these vehicles while giving the people overseas the better options. The opel mokka also has a 10" standard backup camera/navigation screen and a 12" optional one. The American version only gets and 8".
Let me get this straight. The Lexus has a better interior, better reliability, holds a better value and is far more powerful. The Lexus NX makes 194 to 225hp that hit 60 in 7.2 and Buicks top motor makes 153 with alot less torque... Yeah the Lexus is alittle more but GM really is going to have to discount this thing at $31k.
What!? You mean a car that costs close to $40k is better than a car that costs $23k? I'M SHOCKED! Now surprise me by revealing that a Veyron is also better than an Encore.
I must admit GM, this is a good one.

i had a 2018 as a rental i loved it.
Anybody else get excited seeing wayfaring stranger playing on the stereo?
Buick encore on Handel

This vehicle is assembled by Daewoo Motors in South Korea (now GM Korea). Almost Hyundai and Kia quality.

I like the previous dash. This one looks like belly fat over a belt.
Finessing the creases makes it more slab sided tall vehicle. The shiny plastic and chrome screams tack-o-rama
I'm only watching this because I rented one of these for a few days.

Why do people buy these?
Joe Black It's basically a Vauxhall/Opel Mokka. Why even buy this?
+AirbusGuy 99
Because it's better than the rest of the garbage being offered in the subcompact category.

cheap, nice runabout vehicle, great mileage, lots of interior space
Easy to park. Good on gas. Cheap tires. Cheap brakes. Low insurance. Low property tax. Everyone has their own style.
ItS aN oPeL -- yeah, we know. We know GM makes multiple cars, we're not surprised 🤦♂️
Now let’s get into the meat and po-at-toes
I like the jeep renegade 4×4 a little better. But not by much.
Wait how many hp? You gotta be kidding for 30$k plus
Chris Dooley $19,000 for a 2018 in my area.

I really like the Encore but it needs a bigger engine.
I'm sure a manual would help. But I doubt most people would want a manual in the Encore. When I meant bigger engine I just meant like a 2.0L Turbo.
It needs a V8
I have major problem with my 2014 encore will not buy another one when my lease is up . No more GM junk back to Japanese cars better quality.
This vehicle along with the Chevrolet Trax will be completely redesigned for 2019........

I was planning to buy one of these Buick Encore's until I sat in one and saw the lack of armrest/center console. That was a deal breaker for me.
Better get triple A

The Lexus starts at $35K and goes to +$40K.
DogsBark I’ve seen them in dealers around me for las low as $24k
I see where you're coming from but I'd rather get the Encore because I think the NX is ugly in the front.
What!? You mean a car that costs close to $40k is better than a car that costs $23k? I'M SHOCKED! Now surprise me by revealing that a Veyron is also better than an Encore.
The Lexus NX is garbage
K
Seems over-priced
Speed Racer you can buy a wrangler or a miata for that money
Horrible vehicle
