      Come on. Mazda and Toyota are about the same in reliability. At least one isn't like driving an appliance. The same people bashing Mazda probably still think it's run by Ford. (When in fact Mazda helped Ford by designing the Focus and highly reputable duratec engines)

      Kyle Newberry they also worked together to do the ranger and Mazda's small truck. I just like the more aggressive driving dynamic is all. The steering wheel actually has feel! Not as much as my 66 mustang lol.

    one big reason for the quality and fit and finish is the stories behind the Mazda. It is produced, designed, engineered 100% in Hiroshima Japan. Toyota is outsourced and made here in the states with many countries contributing towards it. The Mazda is the clear winner here and Toyota has gone the wrong direction over the past 10 years or so because they are fighting for that top global sales position against the VW group and they have Audi and Porsche at their disposal. Mazda doesn't care about that badge, they really just want to make vehicles that they would be proud to drive. Mazda is a winner in all aspects.

    Toyota obviously has a stellar reputation. The problem is when you are toying between both the Mazda steals your heart with the style and design. So I went for the Mazda thinking it is designed and built in Japan, a real plus to me. Also if they put that much attention to detail with the design and style they must have put the same effort in the transmission, engine and the other functioning aspects that drive the car. In Japan it is total commitment to quality it's not halfway. They obviously have put a lot of effort in innovation with the Skyactive engine and transmission. So I smell commitment to innovation and excellence. My fingers are crossed but as we all know there are no sure things in life.

      Brian P - I bought the RAV4 after owning 9 Toyotas, I figured Toyota knew what they were doing by then.
      Also, I test drove the Rav4 in temps under 30° thinking the stiff ride and hard seats were from the cold weather, NOPE.
      In addition, a clunky infotainment / bluetooth system and rattle filled interior body integrity doesn't show itself right away.
      Toyota built a reliable motor and transmission in the 2013 RAV4, thumbs up there. The rest of it, from the body paint to the interior body integrity are lower quality.
      In the last year, I've test drove and researched SUV's all over the spectrum: Volvo, Acura, Honda, Nissan, BMW, VW, Audi, Jeep and Lexus. Mazda is building GREAT cars. No longer under the Ford umbrella, Mazda is completely made in Japan, like Toyota used to be. Only speaking of the new CX-5 vs. a RAV4, the Mazda kicks it's ass.

    Does mazda only offer unlimited milage warranty in Canada? It was a huge factor when I bought my 2016 cx5. Also that joystick to control the infotainment is the best. I forget it's a touch screen which is good because I don't have finger prints all over the screen. Plus it's so easy to control with the joystick, even on rougher side roads. Only complaint is that the maps could be more updated, in my area there is a subdivision where a golf course used to be, it's been there for 5 years, map still says it's a golf course but that's TomToms business. When buying I looked at RAV4 and rouge. I felt with RAV4 it was way more money and rouge just felt cheap (it was the cheapest) sure rouge has panoramic sunroof but the rest is meh. I got the mazda GS with Nav for less than base RAV4 with just a backup cam. That means I got sunroof, rims, nav, blind spot monitors, rear cross traffic detection, auto lights, auto wipers, fog lamps, unlimited milage warranty, mazda roadside assistance, exhaust tips and push button start (that I can remember) for less than a regular turn key RAV4 with hub caps and just a backup camera with not other safety feature. I know the new 2017 have the assisted braking but so does cx5 apart from Base model (GS) but you truly don't know how nice blind spot monitors are until it's raining heavily and the guy in the right lane has 1 barely working headlight and a black car. Seeing that light on in the mirror confirms that he's there whereas my eyes are giving me a little doubt.

    Enjoyed your review of these crossovers Sami. Thanks for your insight and helpful expertise. That Toyota sure looks dated sitting next to the CX-5. I'd take the Mazda as well. The seats in the CX-5 also looked far more comfortable than those in the RAV-4.

    • @someguy2135
      @someguy2135 5 років тому

      Seat comfort needs you to try them yourself. I used to own Camry's which had more comfortable seats than my CX5. Don't get me wrong, my CX5 is also comfortable, as long as I use a small cushion for lumbar support.

      The vios is trash (except for the vios G)
      Interior is cheap and engine has no innovation.

    • @M9_Prime
      @M9_Prime 7 років тому +2

      godfatherNYC I don't know where this reliability thing is coming from. In Ontario Canada mazda has Unlimited milage warranty for 5 years. I commute 89km 1 way to work daily (178km daily) so I bought the cx5 (2016) to have that piece of mind for 5 years. I can drive it all I want. I also had a friend that bought that cx5 and it wasn't for him (his family is tall, like almost 7' tall so his son didn't have enough room in the back) and ended up buying a 3 row pathfinder but he got a lot of his money back on the mazda (had 40,000km on it) because the Nissan dealer knew it had unlimited milage warranty and there was still 4 years of warranty left. The dealer told him the warranty is most of the reason that value retained so well. The next owner still has 4 years of worry free driving.
      Personally I also bought the extra warranty so all my electronics are covered as well and rentals are covered if work takes a while. I had a check engine code come up and it was just an update but I brought it in. They couldn't look at it that day so I left in a rental, picked my car up the next day with a smile and handshake.

    • @godfatherNYC

      I hear ya. Sounds good. I know Toyota reliability is legendary. It seems that many other automakers are getting way better these days, including Mazda. Enjoy your CX5! I just got a new 2017 Lexus ES 300h that gets 40 mpg and its just blowing my mind how nice this car is.

    • @facesplaces
      @facesplaces 7 років тому +5

      style 20 there are two types of people in this world, forward thinkers who embrace technology and then the bureaucratic traditional folks. As such, from a Marketing standpoint both Toyota and Mazda are catering to two different segments. Those who want the latest and greatest forward leading technology will opt for Mazda while others who want a point A to B vehicle and an overall minimalist will go for the Toyota. Love the RAV4 for their reliability and simplicity but in this case the cx 5 won me over! Best in class design and tech. I almost feel Mazda is the bridge between Toyota and Lexus at this point in terms of overall quality .

  • @phillips3390
    @phillips3390 6 років тому +1

    Give me many reasons why? Let's start with the suspension turning ratios, compression rations, transmission response time, starting price, awd system, 0-60, skid ABS control, torque, intake CFM, Entertainment System, controller feed back quality response, interior quality, how easy is it to maintain the vehicle, how fast brakes work, how well the handling is, what type of piston design, head Port design, valve train design, compare these to the trash RAV4 that does not improve in nothing. And the most beautiful thing about skyactiv GDI engines is that Mazda figured out a way to use 87 octane instead of 91 or higher octane. Gdi's are supposed to take high octane fuels. Not with Mazda due to their Hemi Pistons. Skyactiv engines are getting so good that they don't even have to use spark plugs on their gas engines. The high compression ratios make the skyactiv motor run up to 70 miles per gallon that's way better than a damn Prius or hybrid rav4. Whats bad ass about the Mazda company is that they done something that Toyota would have never figure out. And that was the rotory engine. They already have a skyactive rotary. What's scary is that a stock skyactiv rotary produced a higher output power and speed then a GTR. Put that rotary in a cx5. Mazda! because the Mazda company is coming to power. I have high hopes in Mazda and the rotory

      mellegolas The CX5. I had most cars in this size out for a test drive, including the top spec. 3008, BMW, Merc, VW, etc & the CX5 won hands down. It's my wife's car and cost was not the overriding factor & but driving, AWD, comfort, styling & general all round capabilities made the decision. I have owned all the luxury or premium brands with the exception of Bentley & RR over the past few years & if the badges & logos were removed from the Platinum 2.2d CX5 with all the bells & whistles, this car more than stands it's ground. I traded in a Merc. for a Volvo 1 year ago & I can honestly say that after spending time in the new Mazda, I have now major regrets.

    I don't know, I guess it it up to each person, I have a 2016 Rav4 SE and I have a family member who has the Mazda CX5, both are good and reliable vehicles, for me, I like the Rav4 better, although the CX5 is more luxury then the Rav, the Rav gives more fun to drive, plus, with the largest cargo space in it's class, helps with hauling all the things you need to.
    Price, the 37k for the Rav they are showing, is just not needed, you can get the SE or the limited, which will have all the things the Platinum has for a few thousands less, and still compare to the Mazda.
    Again, bottom line, it comes down to the person looking at the vehicle, better resale value, more cargo space, the Rav wins in my book.
    As for apple car play or Android Auto, Toyota has the Entune app, gives you all Android auto gives you and more

      Bill Nuzzi the CX3 is a smaller car than the RAV4. It's not meant to compete with Rav4, to get a real comparison you need cx5. I don't even know what car Toyota makes that the same class as cx3, Honda has the HR-V and Chevy has Trax, Nissan has the Juke but Toyota and Hyundai (Kia) don't really have anything that siZe here in Canada

      sorry about that Marcin Kawa, I meant the CX5, not the CX3, my bad, lol, but thank you for the response, much appreciated.
      The Toyota that would compare with the CX3 would be the new Toyota CH-R, for me, not much to look at, inside or out, thanks again friend

      Thank you for your quick response. I have tested both the 2.5, and 2.0 Turbo Forester and I am impressed. Since the CRV just changed, I am taking a wait and see attitude on the new CRV, but I am noticing them everywhere, especially the touring model, here in the Montreal area. (The Rav4 is solid old school,and the CX5 is luxury looking!)

    The Mazda is a nice car, but I just can't get past that obnoxious info screen sticking out of the top of the dash. It looks like they taped an IPad to the dashboard. They should have left the screen where it was on the 2016 model.

      6ixtynine Toyota RAV4 is reliable well Toyota period and that’s why many people buy them as you can see from the high price tag it’s honestly ridiculous however it is very popular amongst any other midsize SUVs on the market today and Toyota Will continue to sell the Rav4 regardless of whatever new or sexy suv may pop up! I still see first generation two current generation RAV4 on the road today so that says a lot however it wouldn’t hurt to totally redesign it as they did with the 2018 Camry or they newly small suv I can’t think of the name

      depellerinluc The CX5.

      @conan900 7 років тому +5

      Yes, they all need more power. Never enough power, but Mazda manages it well and the CX-5 so much more fun to drive than any other model in this segment. Steering and handling are spot on.

    • @adamstratton7808
      @adamstratton7808 7 років тому +4

      conan900: mine adjusted to my driving styles shortly after purchase. in not sure that it really needs more power as the car almost learns how I drive and gives me what I need when I need it. What he said about the shifting not being responsive and not shifting correctly is only because it takes a little time to lean my style after narrowing down over 100 variables to just 3. I think this is a very important thing to mention because it can be a deterant to those who test drive it. this is hands down the best vehicle I've ever purchased. I believe there is a turbo diesel coming next year and Android auto confirmed too, I can just bring mine in to add the feature via service. love this vehicle. I test drive the Toyota and it was a joke, oh, try to find the traction control button in it. Toyota is not what it use to be. its the Japanese version of Ford.

    Mazda is chasing a perception. A sort of perceived feeling. I think it was Nissan that made a gimmicky commercial where they stuck an average Joe in a "racecar" that was relieved later to be just there production vehicle. I wish someone would do something similar with Mazda to get a sort of blind test feedback. Mazda's team is stretching subtle visual and tactile cues that pull on heartstrings but it makes me wonder how much of it is hamming up emotional triggers. How artificial are new Mazdas when they are being designed now to play with your senses by hitting key notes? Certainly wins over reviewers. Eliciting a response just seems like clever persuading on an otherwise average car. Like fake engine noise through the speakers.

    • @styleomatic

      Kevin Alan Mazda is kicking ass. I just test drove their SUV's and they are so much nicer in every way than utilitarian Toyotas.
      If you want to drive a cheaply made yet reliable toaster with wheels, buy Toyota.
      If you want an all in-house built, well made, fun to drive reliable car, buy a Mazda.
      I own a 2013 Rav4 and it's the lamest vehicle I've ever owned. The last 9 were Toyotas and way better than this turd.
