Enjoy an evening jam session with Hamad Mahjoubi’s family at Dar Gnaoua Bambara!
Since arriving in Khamlia, Morocco, in November of 2023, we have immersed ourselves in Gnaoua music. During the evenings, we recorded family jam sessions of Hamad and his children. We share those here on UA-cam to increase the appreciation for this beautiful music!
When we visited Morocco in 2019, searching for Gnaoua music. Many people suggested we visit Khamlia, a small Gnaouan village at the edge of the Sahara Desert. We were directed to Dar Gnaoua Bambara or in English “the House of Gnaoua.” Returning to Morocco in 2023, we visited Khamlia once again to reconnect with our friends at Dar Gnaoua Bambara.
Hamad Mahjoubi, who is the founder of Dar Gnaoua Bambara, once again invited us to park Nulla, our Land Cruiser camper, at the compound and stay with his family. It was a fabulous experience continuing to learn about Gnaouan history, music, and spending time with Hamad and his family.
People from around the world visit the Sahara Desert and Merzouga. Khamlia is just a few miles down the road from Merzouga and we encourage everyone to visit Dar Gnaoua Bambara to learn about the Gnaoua people and their music. More to come! Enjoy!
