Those were some special years to have been growing up as a teenager. We witnessed the explosion of rock and heavy metal music. The 70s gave birth to so many legendary bands. I'll always remember the parties, all the concerts, great friends, and wild times. Personally I don't know how or when my days will end, but I do feel very lucky to have lived them decades and I share your sentiments 👍 August 2023.
I got saved when I was 16 back in 73 when I was in high school. They called us Jesus freaks. I can't wait to be in heaven with my Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
I just lost my dad yesterday, this was one of his favorite songs and he even requested I play it at his funeral. The pain is so immense, yet this song helps me connect to him and hear him. I love you dad, this one is for you.
I remember this song on the radio and I was driving my mom somewhere and she said "Awww turn this song up" I did and when it came to the part that says " the world is a bad place, a sad place, a terrible to live ohhhh but I don't wanna die" my mom turned her head to look out the window and to hide her tears that she was crying. I knew she'd be gone long before me and when I hear this song it grabs my heart strings. I love you mom❤❤❤
This might also be a song on my funeral. Turning 36 this month, and still hoping it's a long way till that. But this song is so beautiful! Rest in peace Colson's dad
tHE COLSON , I LOVE YOUE COMMENT , your dad had class ,im so sorry he passed x Play this divine classic for ever it will bring your happy memories of your dad floodind back , Jane xx⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bonnie Harbin, Although I am sorry for your loss, I'm happy that you had one good man who at least stood by you, through thick and thin; I don't know your story, but I'm sure you're still grateful for the man you had, that you were his and he was yours. So many of us never had this.
This is an amazing version of this song. Dean Ford’s voice is phenomenal. I remember this from when I was young but it popped up on Reels and came back to me. I can’t stop listening to it.
If the singers from Marmalade only knew how much this song means to me. I listen to it a few times a day on a daily basis. It's how I live my life now in June 2024. Thank you Marmalade for making me revaluate my life. You did good! You left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
The man who wrote this Beautiful Song, Mr Dean Ford, died on Tuesday the first of January 2019. He came from My hometown of Glasgow in Scotland. He was a real gentleman and a great songwriter too. Here's to YOU Dean and a BIG thank YOU for brining back SO many memories. I know that many Vietnam vets loved this song too. God Bless us ALL. R.I.P. Dean 01/01/2019
William: Well I am sorry to hear this great composer Mr Ford is no longer with us. He shall be missed but at least we have he left us his songs for us to hear. Regards.
I to believe this song and there are many in Year 2022 are even more meaningful..I am 67 but I feel the songs of this time holds a special meaning. What happened to this generation some of us are still but it should not be forgotten
After so many years, and things....places and people, lost loves I thought I had forgotten..... I was.wrong...I wish I could travel in time and go back to these dear memories...
From someone who grew up in the 60s & 70s I can't tell you how many times I remember the old days and how I wish I could go back in time and have a do over. There would be so many things I would change like talking to this girl in 8th grade named Sheri who could with just staring at me make me weak to my knees. Or try out for Baseball or kept going with my medical studies. When I hear this song it rushes old memories back in my mind. I really love this song. To all of those in junior high and high school today. GO FOR IT you only get one shot in life and before you know it your 60+ years old listening to old songs and things you wish you would of done....
Did you live my life? I take this song theologically, because it is based on the inherent sadness since what Christians call "the fall" . When I think about it, what a great ballad for a film as Christ walks to his destiny as a man, redeeming the fallen world with stunning bravery as he is mocked. He wants to go home to his Father but the cross beckons, there is still work to do. Thank God for the few times I have had a bit of bravery in my life. Fruit just poured out afterwards. Could use some right now.
I keep coming back to this song. I've been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and this one hit wonder hits all my thoughts on reflectng is my life. It's feels like I never left that era. I guess that's my home. It's been good, bad,and ugly. This sweet sentiment of a song gave us hope in the chaos of the late 60s. My boyfriend went to Nam in 70. The letters from him fit this song. You just want to go back home. Innocence gone when you figure out "You can't go back home". It's just a reflection. A piece of your heart.
Well said and HEART Felt!💓 Those were our days of innocence, when we thought those days, good and bad would last forever!!!😢 I'm sorry for where you are at this point in your life, I hope and pray you find that inner peace, God Bless you!!💕
I just lost my husband 5 weeks ago I feel like I’m in one big cloud anymore this song reminds me of us my heart is broken 😢 please pray for everyone that’s lost someone so important to them 😢
I'm so sorry for your loss and for all that have lost a spouse or other loved ones. My dear friend lost her husband on April 7th, 2023 when his truck was t-boned by a drunk driver. Richard and his best friend were killed instantly and another dear friend was seriously injured by a man that had already been charged with DWI 3 times! He should have never been allowed behind the wheel. Like you, she is devastated and I pray everyone will keep you and others that have suffered such great loss in their prayers. Nobody can imagine what you are going through unless they have been there themselves. I'm so very sorry and you and many others are in my prayers. Blessings to you always. =(
When this song came out, I was a teenager in crisis. I had just come out of an unspeakable patch in my life. This song may well have kept me from suicide...... Music has been my solace ever since.
This song came out during my senior year in college. The shootings in Kent State closed our campus. I had been drafted a few months earlier in the draft lottery of 1969. I was headed to USMC boot camp in a few months. This song has remained seared in my memory ever since. Hearing it now, it seemed to be the perfect soundtrack to my life in those uncertain days. Thankfully, I survived 3 tours, flying a Navy aircraft which makes this song even more powerful to me today. Thanks guys, you were wise beyond your years.
Thanks for your service. I was more than thankful to get through one tour with all parts still attached. 101st ABN. And yeah, this was one of "our" songs.
I was a young boy when this song by Marmelade came out, it has stayed with me all these years, the "60"s truly made "Magical" music, the Creativity and the Stories of life will always remain forever in my heart along with "Reflections in my Life" to always think back and Reflect on a turbulent but beautiful time in our life and if you were fortunate to be around at that time I hope you only had great memories.
Seems I come here more and more for "My Reflections of My Life" I'm a 60s baby, retired twice and have a very Blessed Life! The older I get, the more I learn to appreciate those "Hard" years of sacrifice! And it's also a reminder that one day, We all will take that last Breath and there are no guarantees for tomorrow for anyone!!💓 Embrace your Life and those closest to you!!💕
I've always loved that line: "...the world is a bad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live......but I don't wanna die..." I've often felt exactly that way.
That's also the most poignant, heartwrenching line for me. What's scary is, Dean sang that 52 years ago, and look where we are NOW! A BAD PLACE, A TERRIBLE PLACE, and it's only going to get worse. I'm grateful that I won't be here to see and live the reality of that. Makes mortality a lot less frightening.
@@stellarocquie7957 And I often feel *that* way too. I find myself feeling sorry for the young people these days. They could be in for a very rough ride.
My brother was a gunner off of a helicopter DMZ. I buried him in April with one eye, one lung, throat cancer, shrapnel that you could see under the surface of his skin. I wish that I could take your pain away. Peace, Bruh
Same for myself. I was a (much too aware) 12 year old in ‘69 and this song has been relevant my entire life. I don’t know why, but there’s something special also about the fact that it was a one hit wonder. Like it was a song that was meant to be… A song that had a destiny. I was sad to hear that the author/composer had died. Rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss. Please remember that God promised. A resurrection so we will get to see our loved ones again . I truly believe this . And Jesus resurrected some people while he was earth so this lets me know it truly is going to happen. You might think I'm crazy but. Please look into it
I'm praying for you and "@wandalemaster1480", and my dear friend Debbie for the recent loss of your husbands. I'm so very sorry, I cannot imagine what you are going through. My heart goes out to everyone enduring such great sorrow. =(
We are witnessing a world takeover by COMMUNISTS, including here in the United States. They had to destroy the western/heterosexual/Christian white male. The hateful, perverted, psychotic white feminist females, were destroyed decades ago.

I'm 68 now. I had a very troubled childhood life. Broken family, juvenile hall, continuation school, etc. Then joined the Marine Corps at 16, inducted on my 17th bday 1971. This song is beautiful but makes me very sad.
I remember listening to this song as a 13 year old and sobbing, although I couldn't explain why. Now, at almost 65, my brain knows now what my heart already knew back then. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
@@josephbarto7999 So many years gone by, so many dear friends and relatives gone; this song, even if for just a few minutes TAKES ME BACK too. Can't listen to it with dry eyes.
There was a lot of competition in 1969 for music playtime. Some of the follow up success by bands was greatly influenced by the media but some bands could never find the magic they found to follow up a monster hit. probably some great songs never surfaced with all the bands exploding on the scene.
What a song--those of us who lived through these times will never forget this great song! It was a wild ride we all went thru! God bless all who feel this song and feel the vibs we went thru--God bless you all and thank you for this video!

From Canada: Sept 2, 2022: I miss him and his music, what a gentleman. The world is now such a very sad place, his kindness is so needed now, more than ever! God Bless you Dean, RIP Mr. Ford.
I'm 63 & a Guitarist from the 70's Era & My Choice of Rock Was 'Straight Ahead Guitar Driven Blues/Rock'. But THIS Song ??? There is NO Denying it IS a MASTERPIECE !!!
The Marmalade, were a Scottish band, but they touched the soul of such an historic time for, America. A goodnight song to the tortured 60's and the hope, the 70's held.
Dean Ford deserved more recognition as a vocalist than he got. Being in a commercial pop band & the plethora of great British singers at the time ( Steve Marriott , Eric Burdon. Joe Cocker et al) sort of stole his thunder I think. He is a tremendous singer!

I'm 67 widowed and every night play music of my years growing up. I just wish I could relive those days. If only I knew then what I know now. But the music will always make me happy. We were privileged to grow up in that generation.music will never be like that again, yes things move on but rock and roll will never be surpassed. Oh well back to my music when singers were singers and songs had melody and meaning.

I don't think there is any song out there that brings back more melancholy nostalgia for we baby boomers than this one. Just read the comments! At least it lets us know many of us are in the same boat.
Marmalade were brilliant, Dean Ford must have literally torn his heart out singing this one, beautiful song and so meaningful. Thanks so much for providing how great marmalade were by posting this truly live version. Excellent.
Thank you for serving. Coming from a guy who,s oldest brother was killed in action over there. John D. was a Green Beret who re-upped and volunteered to go back. I,ll never forget the day he left, my mother was crying and said , my God, what if your parachute doesn,t open? He said ,don,t worry mom, I,m not that lucky. As I get older, it seems like I have more reflections, and more to reflect on, and of course this increases the impact of this song. It touched me in the day, but now it moves me. While all is not as I would have it, the tunes I grew up with still help me to focus and put all into perspective. Thanks for sharing the music and I hope this smooths the wrinkles in your soul today as you listen to it.

I went to Vietnam at age 20. Spent a year as an ER (Trauma) medic. The sorrow broke me and I was changed forever. This song somehow speaks to what happened to us there

Lost my little sister in 3years ago. She was just 24, when I knew my little sister passed away in a traffic accident, it's a sad time in my life.the tears start rolling down my cheeks.❤
I first heard this song not too long ago on an oldies station and fell in love with the melody. Then when I looked up the words, I was even more turned on to it. I love the chorus especially. A beautiful song with such poignant lyrics. Take me back to my own home...
Where can I find more? I wasn't born for nearly another decade after this. I feel cheated 4 living 3+decades w/o hearing it. Thanks Uh-mericuh & my hippie, Scot-blooded, Mom. Got to ask y she neglected to introduce me to a band that went by the very nickname she gave me. If you plan to read all this, No i'm not on drugs of any sort. I knew they were from Scotland by the instant chills I got (2 of my faves r Cocteau Twins & Teenage Fanclub) I hear why so many make Hollies & BGs comparisons. I love them both. I'm thinking most people hear tones of "He ain't Heavy..." "Massachusetts"or "I Started a Joke"respectively? Joke gave me a newfound respect for the BGs, but "...Joke" was never released as a single in the UK in 68, only the states (that country where lots of folk have Anglo Saxon backgrounds and eerbody judges its citizens based on its former leaders' bad decisions) So, good chance not many people knew the BGs at least not from "...Joke" I've never felt compelled to comment on youtube until I heard this. It's Sadness & Beauty all at once. I could be overanalyzing this and if i am, keep it to yourself. I'm jade. It's very rare for me to find beauty in abstraction, especially at this level; never before in a song I heard 1 time. The pure genius is 5 separate things: 1,The arrangement of the song itself: I understand these guys wrote the arrangement which garners further notoriety for the song. It establishes the song's level of importance & attachment to them which should transfer to the listener in someway, with unusually high levels of intensity that actually grow more intense throughout the song. The drums drop out periodically, forcing you to focus more at specific points, emphasizing, primarily their lyrics "changing of sunlight to moonlight, reflections of my life" poetically grabs you right from the start, involving the listener by revealing the most breathtaking, soul checking opening lyrics i've ever heard. Finally, the most thoughtful & brilliant arrangement element: the accompanying strings. As I said earlier this is Sadness & Beauty all at once, incorporating the very instruments that epitomize those sentiments, guiding the song's development, creating its peak through orchestral reinforcements both musically & lyrically. It's baffling how many layers of brilliance are in this song! 2,The arrangement of the lyrics: emphasizing the process of change through repetition, cadence & the points where they choose to have the harmonizing vocals drop out, controlling your attention "i'm changing. ...arranging changing...changingeverything" are elements Ive only seen used in poetry, not a chart making, radio song! 3, The lyrical content as +Vitreous Lamella said is poignant. I'll add that the lyrics alone surpass other bands from that era, with no comparisons in terms of writing style, etc.(i.e.The Kinks' Davies' brilliance - there's no common denominator since he usually wrote from 3rd person point of view) Regardless of what the song is "about," if it was, even written like that, I don't aspire to determine that. However, several lines are not just profound, they're stylistically, bravely written for a 1969 song of this style: "no more sorrow...sad tomorrow" even veteran chart toppers, the Doors' 69 effort, "The Soft Parade," failed to produce anything other than the hit, "Touch Me," a predictable, standard radio sing along song with one decent line, ""I'm gonna love you till the heaven stops the rain;" then re-written,"I'm gonna love you til the stars fall from the sky," imagery derived metaphors for how long he's going to love someone (a laughable thought considering the source) immediately followed by a contradiction of that suggestion (stars do actually fall from the sky) integrity lost, nothing of any remarkable substance, which is odd it being the height of the psychedelic era & Morrison, with his shock appeal & belief that he was the enigmatic poet, Arthur Rimbaud, having every opportunity to compose whatever he wanted, wrote, "Touch Me." 4,Use of talent: The lead vox has a rare ability to engage you with raw, intense, genuine soul & a unique tremolo vocal effect (i.e. "...alllllll myyyy crrryiiing" he repeats this as the others keep the song's melody & tempo going) one of several elements used that make you believe in him & what he is saying, the harmonies easily rival, if not completely dominate, my fave harmonizers, CSNY. At least 1 harmonizer has incredible range sometimes harmonizing high, sometimes low, The drummer's beat is catchy like a radio song. This keeps you engaged & involved, you're probably singing along no later than1minute in, like a chart topping pop song (i.e. Power Pop kings, The Raspberries "Go All the Way" or any of their faster songs; the hook, the catch is introduced within 2 lines or approx. 30 seconds) I dig the Raspberries catchy songs b/c they were smart enough to realize the common denominator (in their case, the smartest girl listening) if not engaged properly, & quickly, would stop listening (one would hope) to anyone repeat lines like, "Oh I wanna be with you" or the original Beatles early songs like "I wanna hold your hand" Raspberries led me to Blue Ash which led me here; with "Reflections..." it's engaging right away, without even a minute symbol of superficiality (not even the symbol on the drum bc that was, at the time at least, genuine, regardless of your political leanings or judgments of whoever or whatever, wherever) so its depth buys them more time to get you singing along, like a hit radio song, yet does so without sacrificing its integrity.5, Previously, unexplored lyrical content & implications: it's like listening to an easily respected person, slowly (evidenced by the tempo of the song, which seems perfect)& earnestly, confess their greatest vulnerabilities, through a very sensitive, empathetic, yet strong "the world is...but i don't want to die" narrator "reflections of my life, oh how they fill my eyes" further suggested by his concerns for "people with problems" with such honorable purity you'll listen so intently, by the end of the song (when he really lets go& employs that natural soul power)you're not just willing to carry all of his burdens for him, you want to, even if it means you negate yourself. He has become that honorable to you in about 3 minutes, that's some incredible power. The arrangement "beautifully" captures and reciprocates the implications of "sadness" felt through their poetically written lyrics. I can't think of another Hit Radio song from this era, that is this profound, in so many categories. These guys put a lot of time & thought in to this song. There's no way to accidentally create this much intensity & create such a deliberate arrangement, which seems to indicate the lyrics are what they want you to pay attention to, at least initially and it all just be what happened in the studio that day. I can't appropriately describe it's power, but it's a little like this: what if the Mama's & the Papas wrote, arranged & played the Replacements song, "Answering Machine" in 1969... they played it on the radio A LOT...AND it became a big radio hit? Thank you for posting this!

Just had a cuppa with the drummer, who, like me, lives in N.E.Thailand!!

An old Soul ❤️❤️❤️
the times at Viethnam warr's
EW Nothing like excellent music to unite old souls ,,
it is a song everyone - i mean everyone on a soul level gets.
Well said. I couldn't agree more...
Man Do You Got That Right
Did you live my life? I take this song theologically, because it is based on the inherent sadness since what Christians call "the fall" . When I think about it, what a great ballad for a film as Christ walks to his destiny as a man, redeeming the fallen world with stunning bravery as he is mocked. He wants to go home to his Father but the cross beckons, there is still work to do.
Thank God for the few times I have had a bit of bravery in my life. Fruit just poured out afterwards. Could use some right now.
oh you are so right think you lived mine as well.
Amen, brother.
Well said and HEART Felt!💓
Those were our days of innocence, when we thought those days, good and bad would last forever!!!😢
I'm sorry for where you are at this point in your life, I hope and pray you find that inner peace, God Bless you!!💕
I'm so sorry to hear of your cancer but, Marmalade weren't a one hit wonder band.
Good luck !!!!
Especially, because no body wishes to die. God made us with the wish to continue living forever according to Ecclesiastes 3:11.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for all that have lost a spouse or
other loved ones. My dear friend lost her husband on April 7th,
2023 when his truck was t-boned by a drunk driver. Richard and
his best friend were killed instantly and another dear friend was
seriously injured by a man that had already been charged with
DWI 3 times! He should have never been allowed behind the

Like you, she is devastated and I pray everyone will keep you and
others that have suffered such great loss in their prayers. Nobody
can imagine what you are going through unless they have been
there themselves. I'm so very sorry and you and many others are
in my prayers. Blessings to you always. =(
When this song came out, I was a teenager in crisis. I had just come out of an unspeakable patch in my life. This song may well have kept me from suicide...... Music has been my solace ever since.

It wasn't easy back then...but we made it man.

I wish I could turn back time and realise that I had everything ! Take Care Friend 😢
Seems I come here more and more for "My Reflections of My Life" I'm a 60s baby, retired twice and have a very Blessed Life! The older I get, the more I learn to appreciate those "Hard" years of sacrifice! We appreciate dear John H's honesty !!!
That fits today with our President!
@@markd6634 Go away. This is NO PLACE for political agendas.

My schoolmate was killed near Chu Lai in '65
My brother was a gunner off of a helicopter DMZ. I buried him in April with one eye, one lung, throat cancer, shrapnel that you could see under the surface of his skin. I wish that I could take your pain away. Peace, Bruh
Always loved this song as a kid in the 70s. Now that I am much older, it has new and deep meaning.
I know exactly what you mean.
My husband died 14 weeks ago and this was one of his favourite songs . My life will never be the same .

We are witnessing a world takeover by COMMUNISTS, including here in the United States. They had to destroy the western/heterosexual/Christian white male. The hateful, perverted, psychotic white feminist females, were destroyed decades ago.
But we need to acknowledge that there are beautiful things and people in this world too
@@helenechildress377 Who's "we"? You can live in a perpetual "La La Land", but I won't. I live in America. Our country is disintegrating. Through 60 years of IMMORALITY, America today is perverse, addicted, gluttonous, narcissistic, psychotic, violent, rude, uncivilized, and in denial. The American spirit has been destroyed - all by design. With the communist scourge reeking havoc in all areas of society, this will only get worse, i.e. - chaos, mayhem, and müřdër. Dean Ford deserved more recognition as a vocalist than he got. Being in a commercial pop band & the plethora of great British singers at the time ( Steve Marriott , Eric Burdon. Joe Cocker et al) sort of stole his thunder I think. He is a tremendous singer!

Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my old home
I'm changing, arranging
I'm changing, I'm changing everything
Ah, everything around me
The world is a bad place
A bad place, a terrible place to live
Oh, but I don't wanna die
All my sorrow
Sad tomorrow
Take me back to my old home
All my crying (all my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my old home
All my sorrow (all my sorrow)
Sad towmorrow
Take me back (take me back) to my old home
All my crying (all my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying

This was plated at my mate’s funeral service in the Church of Scotland, Jersey. Farewell Davie, No Surrender.
This man’s voice is amazing. First time hearing this beautiful song.
First heard this song in 1970 and felled in love with it! 46 yrs later still in love with it!!!
As we get older this is the perfect song to reflect on the good times and bad times
of yesteryear, and today. Great group of the 60's. Glad to be a part of the 60's.
So am I!
Try amazing grace.
I went to Vietnam at age 20. Spent a year as an ER (Trauma) medic. The sorrow broke me and I was changed forever. This song somehow speaks to what happened to us there
On Thanksgiving--I had to hear this beautiful song--RIP Mr. Ford!
My Favourite song of all time to be played at my Funeral R.I.P. Mr Dean Ford Edinburgh Scotland.
That's what I want.
One of the sixies greatest songs and continues still today
Damian Raffile not just one of the sixties greatest songs but one of the greatest songs of all time
LOVE THIS! One of the most beautiful ballads I have ever heard, and I'm 67 years old,..I raised 3 wonderful, soul loving, very successful, children, they listened to their mom's music and embraced it! 😄
Successful...? Didn't realise this was a competition.
Lost my little sister in 3years ago. She was just 24, when I knew my little sister passed away in a traffic accident, it's a sad time in my life.the tears start rolling down my cheeks.❤
This tune helped me find a long lost sister and reunite her with our family. True story. Still makes me cry.
I first heard this song not too long ago on an oldies station and fell in love with the melody. Then when I looked up the words, I was even more turned on to it. I love the chorus especially.
A beautiful song with such poignant lyrics.
Take me back to my own home...
+Vitreous Lamella ys linda song
and their own home is, 1960s Glasgow, an era I can also share with them,,barely.
