How To connect HD Multi Room TV, 1 source to 4 TVs using HDMI Splitters / Amplifiers

  • Hi, this video shows you how to connect up a Virginmedia Set Top Box and a ROKU 2 XS media player (you can use Apple TV, Blu-Ray, DVD etc.) to 4 TVs using 2 HDMI splitters. The HDMI splitters have 1 input to 4 outputs so 4 TVs can simultaneously show the same display. This is ideal if you want the flexibility to watch your equipment in any room. The HDMI Splitters transmit full HD (1080p) so there is no loss of quality. The video also shows an IR (infrared) Kit to transmit the Virginmeida Rmeote control to all 4 TVs. The Roku 2XS uses Bluetooth which struggles to transmit outside the under stairs cupboard so I use the Android and Apple App for the Roku remote control which uses WiFi to allow you to control the Roku and it works really well. The down side of this install apart from the time and money spent on the installation is that you have to watch the same thing on all 4 TVs.
    Many thanks Vince

    I know its more expensive but would the neater solution not be a HDMI matrix and running your HDMI over the cat6 as well

      Hi, I haven't tested it on 4K as I haven't purchased a 4K TV yet but I think these splitters were rated at 1080p so I will probably have to change the splitters when I upgrade the TV. If you are buying from new the 4K splitters are now cheaper than when I bought these 1080p splitters. I have seen them for under £20.
      Thanks Vince.

    Doesn't the 1080i settop box signal quality get split as well? So if you add a TV then you lower the original signal strength and picture quality.

    I have the same setup to send my Virgin Media box to both the lounge TV and the Kitchen TV next door. However, as the rooms are so close to each other, you can hear the audio from both TV's at the same time, and unfortunately there's a slight delay in the signal to the kitchen TV, creating an echo effect. I'm assuming this is due to the different cable lengths from the HDMI splitter (2m to lounge, 10m to Kitchen) the kitchen TV taking slightly longer to receive the signal.

    what if you have one 32 inch tv, that is 720 P, and another set with 1080P? My guess the splitter will have to be set to the lowest common resolution.

    • @The_Joker_

      Fred Zlotnick Size Of the screen makes no difference. If you’re input in via HDMI lead the TV will adjust the resolution itself once it’s set to auto screen size in settings. That’s providing the TVs aren’t old tube TVs from the 80/90s 4:3

    Hello, Have you research connecting wirelessly? Example: I have a TV in the Living room connected to a cable box (Fiber optic box) and I want to transmit wirelessly to a Smart TV and a Smart digital projector. So 3 sources in all. I currently can transmit wirelessly to the smart TV using the IO GEar HD Transmitter kit, but trying to see how I can get to that projector.
    Would love to hear if you had any ideas.

    Hi Vince, do you think it is possible to add HDMI source (PC, Android box, DVD player) to an exsisting Satellite network like those available in the hotel rooms, where each room has its own satellite receiver but all of them are connected to a single LNB/Dish source ? i've been thinking about this and i believe that a specific HDMI modulator may be required, also it may be possible to deploy HDMI splitter or HDMI over ethernet....what it is your idea for the best combination to allow each TV in a hotel room to receive a single seperate channel broadcasting a content from a controlled HDMI source ? thanks

    • @DisleyDavid
      @DisleyDavid 2 роки тому

      Just in case you are still looking for an answer after 6 years. Satellite receivers are normally connected to the block on a dish. Typically each receiver has its own block on the satellite dish. The system you are describing is a communal system which transmits the satellite signal to multiple receivers.
      The signal is NOT HDMI video.
      With Sky TV for domestic use you can get up to 4 set top boxes from one satellite dish as each box has 2 inputs. Sky don't provide communal systems which are run by specialist installers.

    Hi Vince,
    I'm trying to work out how it would be possible to watch different tv channels on different tv's around the house.
    So my son can watch something in his bedroom, my daughter in hers and something different again in the sitting room.
    I was planning on running freeview to say 3 tv's and sky satellite to 4 others.
    Is it possible?
    Many thanks

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 років тому

      Hi, as far as I know on for example the freeview you can only watch whatever the freeview box is tuned into. So you would be able to watch SKY in one room and freeview in another but not different channels on the freeview in different rooms. The same freeview channel would be playing in each room.
      Thanks Vince.

Do you think that virgin could have installed software to prevent you running multiple tv's from one box?, or have I just bought the wrong type of splitter. Could you recommend a suitable splitter please !

    can you connect multiple roku remotes to one roku - one for each room? would each remote be able to have a differently programmed TV on/off and volume buttons?

    • @mt-viki
      @mt-viki 4 роки тому

      To connect multiple roku Boxes to 1, you can use HDMI switch like 2in 1out, 3in1out or 5in1out. this way, you can change program from each control.
      To connect 1 roku Boxes to muptiple TVs, you can use HDMI splitter. But you can't change programs on each remote. However, you can control from remote of roku box, the singal source.
      To have both features splitter and switch, you need to have a matrix switch like, 2x4, 4x4, 8x8. tag me to know more

    Hi there great information.
    I wonder if you can advise on how our football club can utilise our sky HD box onto 2 other screens in our club via HDMI ?
    We have the main screen using the HDMI but the other two TV'S are currently not used. We have the router next to the sky box and due to the structure of the buiding it is not feasable to run HDMI cables from a splitter box to the 2 other tv's. I wondered if there is any other way to link these two tv's without spending a fortune?
    Is it possible to use HDMI extenders over cat 5/6 then via TPLink powerline adapters ?
    IE in this order:
    1, HDMI CABLE from Sky Box to HDMI Splitter.
    2, HDMI CABLE from HDMI Splitter to HDMI extender (Sender).
    3, Cat 6 cable from HDMI extender (Sender) to TPLink powerline adapter.
    4, TP Link powerline adapter plugged in to power socket in main room to powerline adapter in power socket next to second tv.
    5, Cat 6 cable from powerline adapter to HDMI extender (Receiver)
    6, HDMI CABLE from HDMI extender (Receiver) to second tv.
    The extender i was looking at was the E-SDS 1080P HDMI Extender With IR Converter Up to 196 Feet.
    Is it possible to do this or am i over complicating things and it won't work because of the powerline adapters?
    Or is there an altogether easier way by utilising the TPlink adapters or router?
    Many thanks for any help you can give me?
    Regards
    Mike

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 років тому +2

      Hi Mike, they're not going to work over the powerline adaptors. I tried it with similar (although cheaper) HDMI adaptors and it definitely doesn't work. It is quite expensive but look into HDMI over IP and although I haven't tried it I bet this will work over the powerline adaptors but the cheapest I have seen on eBay is over £100.

    I have sky and also tivusat (which is a box and dish for italian tv) If I connect the tivusat to another room and switch it on, then go watch it in the other room, would another person be able to watch the sky in the main room? I was hoping that when my mum is watching her stuff, my Italian dad can go and watch his stuff in the other room. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

      Wathsala Helen yes if you have several modulators for each channel if of its freeview. For sky tv you would need individual set top boxes.

    Was going to ask a question, but seems in comments other people have but no replies. I don't understand why people won't answer questions.

    does this mean that you can't watch different channels in different rooms at the same time?

      +Reginald Smith Jr. Yes, once you go to the input/source on the chosen TV that has the HDMI lead in then you can only watch the same thing.

    The fact that you have to watch the same thing on all 4 TVs is great for you, but, the reason most people have multiple set top boxes is because they have family members whom may want to watch something else.

      nothing to laugh at, that's exactly what i have, a splitter from the source, 1.5 Mtr cable from the splitter to the downstairs TV and a big fuck off 20 mtr (may be 15 metre) HDMI cable up to the bedroom, works a treat and it was from Amazon - Neet cables

    I’m having trouble here and needing help. So we’ve set up multiple screens/tv at church to display the hymns and whatnot during a service. Display and everything is fine, but my problem is turning on all the screens one by one with the remote controller. So if I show up late to church, I’d have to walk all the way to the front and use the remote to turn on every single screen while everyone gives me the evils lol.
    I’m wondering if anyone can help me find a way where I can just sit from the control room at the back and just have one switch to turn on all of the screens without the hassle of walking up to each screen, point the freaking remote at it and turn on? Any help is much appreciated.
