For the new ST owners the most important mods: catch can, intercooler, better spark plugs, tune, down pipe (if you’d like), short shifter, suspension, rear motor mount. After that it’s your canvas
@ 320hp ST already needs chassis mods , engine wants to jump out of the car lol suspension will be super expensive if u dont want ur car wobbling ; )) stainless ones cost like 4k$
@@Microphunktv-jb3kj rear motor mount & passenger motor mount or just bushing, lowering springs and you can call it a day for $600. I went fortune autos with custom spring rates and swift springs for $1500, end links, your choice of bracing and your still below $2500. You honestly don’t need anything crazy unless it’s a track only car.
As a 4 year Focus ST owner, these are my best recommendations. An intercooler 100%. These cars do not fare well in hotter weather and even in cooler temperatures the OEM tube and fin design intercooler is very much lacking. I would see 60 degree Fahrenheit spikes on charge temps in one third gear pull. Very very bad for the poor engine and it really robs power as the hotter air with limit the amount of fun you can have with these cars. Turbo cars need as cold as they can get. Secondly, a rear motor mount at a minimum. Please do yourself and your poor car a favor and get a new rear motor mount. The wheel hop, 1st to 2nd and all other shifting is greatly improved, and the power will get a more direct transfer to the ground resulting in a faster response and a more enjoyable car. I’m going to slip in that I personally recommend getting the passenger and driver side mounts for the car as well. To my surprise when I replaced my transmission mount my oem unit was about to fail and drop my transmission on the floor which easily would have totaled the car. With these mounts upgraded the car will feel absolutely amazing. Precision feel makes shifting better when things aren’t wiggling around in the engine bay, and the whole front end becomes rock solid. When I say rock solid I mean that all three engine mounts have had a bigger impact on front end rigidity, and turn in than any shitty offerings for strut tower bars or other front end chassis bracing. I really think AWR Racings engine mounts are the best you can buy for these cars. I used to run CPE and I’ve felt what Cobb rear mounts are like and I can honestly say that AWR mounts are the most solid built and well composed when it comes to improving things without much in the way of draw backs. I run 88 all around but it’s up to you. Modifying cars is always a trade off with comfort and performance. Tunes are great! Don’t use OTS from Cobb. They blow engines and I mean it. Tunes are adjustments to a wide range of things that affect how your engine runs and it’s best to have one custom tailored to your car and what parts you have. This includes where you are in the world because you’re access to different types of fuel will be limited as well as factors like elevation. Get an access port and then a tune from a reputable source like stratified, edge auto sport or others. At this point you can also more closely monitor your engine and how it runs by looking at data from the ecu. Reading codes is another wonderful benefit from this as diagnosing issues becomes an easier and faster process. These are great cars and those are my top recommendations. Tires and brakes are also huge factors alongside suspension. Just do the research and make sure to buy quality the first time. I made the mistake when I first bought the car thinking I could get a away with products that had lower price tags and I was wrong. There are exceptions for example the Depo Racing 3.5 and 5.5 intercooler but it’s up to you to find them at your own risk. Good luck and google everything. The focus forum is an amazing resource.
@@briancastro8004 I highly recommend AWR Racing mounts. I have all three and I will never go back to stock. They are super super strong and honestly I believe they will outlast the rest of my Focus lol. You can get different durometers too. They can suit whatever stiffness and vibes you care to have.
@@briancastro8004 I run 88 all around and I like it but 70 is also good. It depends on how much vibration you want to endure. 70 is a good start point and with AWR you can always swap to stiffer or softer bushings if you want to. Stock to light mods go 70, moderate to very modified 88 and full race go 95.
An important note to everyone who's picking up their new project car: No matter what you do to it, some people will hate it but that doesn't mean it's tasteful or properly executed.
@@djhero0071 Have a great example of this lol saw a stanced focus, the issue wasn't that it was stanced but that it was poorly done. The alignment was awful between rear and front wheels and the car was very noticeably crab walking XD
No. I mean I think @rapapeti wrote their comment wrong. At least I think they didn’t mean to write it the way they originally did. The message still gets across though (and man, I’ve never heard of a car crab walking)
I just sold My 2014 Focus ST ... Picked up an Elantra N as its replacement. Don't regret it in the slightest. FoST was such a great daily driver - always wished I could've gotten myself into a Focus RS, but Ford only wants the US Market to drive Mustangs.
Best mods for your budget ST build (based on my experience spending too much): 1. Wheels, tires, coil overs (raceland Ultimos specifically) 2. Depo Racing 3.5" FMIC, muffler & resonator delete + new exhaust tips (or full 3" catback, AWE and Accellatec are great) 3. Cobb Accessport & custom e30 tune All in you can do this for around ~$3500, making ~300whp/380ftlbs and look good doing it. (add $2000 for a big turbo, external wastegate and bov for ~380whp)
Don't buy cheap coilovers.. Ultimos are garbage unless all you are looking for is to be low. Downpipe > Catback. Muffler and resonator delete drones like shit do one or the other. Full catback on stock turbo makes no sense other than noise because it makes no power. Yes to the depo intercooler. Full bolt on is filter, intercooler, downpipe. Get the AEM dry flow(easier to maintain over a green or cobb filter)$65, Intercooler $360, Rear motor mount $50, cnt racing 200 cell downpipe $350. If you want some more noise do a Resonator delete or if you want different tips do a muffler delete(more noticeable drone than resonator delete) either way $50. Accessport $300 used. Get some sort of tune from Edge, JST, Stratified, etc ~$300-350 for a pump and e30 tune or ~250 for just a pump gas tune(91/93) 280-290 is more realistic hp numbers and about 360 TQ $1525 Big turbo. BNR 67 or 71 is $1700 if you're on a budget. Both will max out stock fuel and don't need an external gate. Will need blowoff valve and charge pipes though. Depo Charge pipes $220, Blowoff valve of your choice $40-300; have someone weld the flange for whatever blowoff valve to the depo hot pipe $50-75. 1 Step colder plugs $28 New tune $400-450. 350-375hp ~$2550 If you need MO POWA BABY than you need aux fuel. 2 port aux will max out either of those turbos. Can normally find them used for about $550 but its $995 new. Tune revision $150 (save 50 dollars if you have this when you go big turbo on tune) BNR 67 will be at ~425whp and BNR 71 will be ~475whp
@@XBLACKWHITEX171 I'd say skip the coil overs completely. Along with springs and most other suspension mods. Most just fuck up the handling and the ride comfort. People often do these mods with out giving it a second thought. These are the same folks who'll agonize over dyno graphs of their chosen tune making sure that they get "MAX POWA". Yet when it comes suspension they just throw on a set of springs/shocks or coil overs and don't spend one second tuning the suspension beyond a basic alignment. There are so many factors when it comes to suspension tuning that get over looked by the "drop it like it's hot" crowd. They assume that lowering the car make it handle better, just trusting the "feel" of a tighter suspension means that it has to be handling better. I'd be willing to bet that in the majority of cases they've actually hurt the handling along with the ride comfort. New tires absolutely will help handling way more than slapping on a spring or coil over kit and call it a day.
@@brandons9138 absolutely. I just went over the order I did/am doing things. Thats funny because I was going to grab springs but decided not to I’m going to grab some fortune 500s or something when I’m done with everything else. I don’t want to spend twice and as of right now I’m just on the street so tires is the way better option early. Don’t really need wheels anyway, just tires, people like to run the stock snowflakes or the premium wheels anyway. If you want more of a flush fitment with the snowflakes you just get 20mm spacer in the front and 25mm in the back on premiums you can do the same if you cut your studs in the front otherwise you have to run 25mm all round.
for anyone wanting to get a focus ST or fiesta ST. be aware that they have terrible paint issues, especially places it snows/where salt is used. rear quarter panels always have paint chipping off, rear trunk and the inner doors. keep your eye out and make sure to always oil spray your car
I just got my CPO Kona blue ST in September of last year. It's got more chips in the paint than Frito Lay. Apparently it also scratches easily, as mine looks like it drove though a car wash with sand paper brushes. It's really the only problem I have with the car, besides not hunting for a ST2 rather than the ST1 I ended up with.
Installed a PCV catch can for reliability, FMIC for cold air, short shifter and solid shift bushings, and a rear motor mount. These mods work well for whatever you're using your car for. The next logical step was to, of course, put SE front calipers on to fit 15" wheels, rally tires, give it a 2 inch lift, steel skid plate, and go rallycrossing.
That sounds like a gnarly setup yo, you got her up on the gallery by chance?! Would be cool for us to see! -Edgar www.fitmentindustries.com/add-wheel-offset
This is pretty much the mod list I have planned for mine. All drivability and quality of life mods. I'm going for an OEM+ type theme. I'm not even getting new wheels. Maybe some spacers to push the wheels out and make it look more aggressive. When it's all said and done only people who know what they are looking at would even be able to tell it's not bone stock.

Still have my Tangerine Scream ST. 8th year now. Bought it brand new in 2014. Drove it out from showroom and I added the Mountune MP275 kit from UK, then in 2016 I added the MR300 kit from UK and finally in 2019 I went BT with Mountune MRX kit from US. Zero issue have clocked 180000Kms. It keeps up with my other German cars here in Dubai. Wish I had installed the EFR turbo much earlier. My advise to anyone buying an ST, do regular maintenance always n oil changes every 5-7K kms. This car is rock solid n fun. Reason I have not parted with it because it’s the only hothatch with manual tranny.
Love mine! I've had my '14 ST3 since 2016 and in the last couple years started modding it. Only had a couple issues that were pretty easy to fix, but so far so good.
The ST tuning and modification platform is amazing and well supported. I didn’t realize this until after I bought it and owned for a year or so and it’s incredible the amount of support there is and affordable solutions compared to other platforms
Love my ST, can definitely recommend a short shifter and a full turboback exhaust system. But what really waked the car up is a custom tune by stratified
@@murphy6huncho226 Stratified tunes are great and very reliable. They've put countless hours into researching and getting to know the ST platform first-hand, and they know what they're doing. I'd just advise against a pop tune. Mostly because it's dumb. I've been on a Stratified E30 tune for 30,000 miles with no issues. Car is at 70,000 miles. Their traction control is amazing too. It keeps the perfect amount of slip and stays in boost well.
I miss mine, had a Garrett 2867 pushing 25psi to redline, traction was a big issue. I recommend keeping it stock turbo, full bolt on, tune and beefing up the suspension for the twisties
Being a focus st owner myself, I'm disappointed to to see nobody urging people interested in the platform to a catch can. The only thing I regret about my st is not getting a catch can right off the bat. If you don't want to have issues down the line with carbon buildup that can really hurt the performance of your engine, I highly recommend this mod being the first to buy.
@@JubJub117 These cars arent losing value like that. My '17 is in great shape and under 90k miles and I could probably get what I gave for it after 2 years of ownership. You're just being a hater
You're gonna have carbon buildup no matter what, a catch can is just another point of failure, adds cost and doesn't really offer much benefit. I know people at 200k miles that never got their valves cleaned and their cars still run fine. Of you're overly concerned with it, just get the valves walnut blasted every 50000 miles or so.

I feel like the odd one out here, when I got my car I didn’t have much of a say in what it was so drive the upgraded trim of the base. Even though I don’t have the turbski under the hood this car is still a fun little daily driver. Even though there aren’t many performance mods you can do to the base there is plenty of aftermarket support for good looks and you can really make these cars look great
Have had my MM ST1 since new. My mods are: CPE lightweight intercooler, rmm and exhaust. Ford Performance short throw shifter. Mountune shift arm and cable bushings. Velosatech snorkel. Damond symposer delete. Panda 93 octane custom tune. Pirelli sottozero tires go on every winter. Sync 3 conversion upgrade on my wish list. Recaros were on my list but the base seats are very comfortable and a non issue during spirited driving. Same with stock suspension and brakes.
I have a 2016 ST1 with a injen intake, one step colder plugs, turbosmart BOV, Cobb fmic, and a Cobb tune. Absolutely a blast to drive. Reliable, pretty versatile little egg. I have done a few exterior mods, TSW wheels, rear quarter window louvers, wing riser, shaved front grille and shark teeth. One of my favorite cars I have owned.
Personal opinion: Pros: 1. Drives like a go-kart 2. Decent aftermarket parts available 3. Easy to work on 4. Easy to make decent power (400 whp) 5. It has a good community (if you are around the right people) Cons: 1. ItS jUsT aNoThEr St 🙄 2. All St's are the same... (yeah okay) 3. There are a lot of them 4. Some judgment towards the ST community Overall ST's are fun cars and are very great cars for individuals who are looking to dabble into the Car community! They are easy to customize and are very fun to drive even when youre stock. BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! DO NOT BUY A POP CRACKLE TUNE FROM STRATIFIED! (Thank you for my TED talk)

I have a 2016 ST1 i bought new. FBO, E30, perfect blend of daily and performance. I track mine, it out ran EVERY car in my class...passed every car, didnt get passed once in over 4 race days now. The car is slower than a lot of higher powered cars obviously, but a good driver can drive a FoST at max when high powered cars really need excellent drivers to reach their potential. Another major upgrade besides the FMIC, if you plan on driving hard on back roads or the track, is brake pads at minimum with high temp fluid. I have a RaceRed with black RPF1s sitting on H&R springs, whiteline sway bar, FSWerks front stability bar all for suspension and it sits perfect (the wheels are 18x9 +35mm offset with 245/40/18's). These cars are great for the cost, but dont tune quite as well as the VW's or even the Hyundai's (the K03 turbo is its weak point). Great car if you plan on doing simple upgrades and daily driving it. btw..not sure which wheels those were on that dropped ST, black, steelie looking wheels with chrome ring...but that look was mint! ^_^
Me and my wife just sold our/her ST. It was high mileage and we wanted to get rid of the loan especially and the current state of the market was very good for that. Still have my RS and will never sell it though.
Any issues with the RS? Whats all done to it?! Make sure to add it to the gallery if you have a nice setup! -Edgar www.fitmentindustries.com/add-wheel-offset
nice video, realistically tho, dropping your car really low is not at all drivable on Hawaii's roads, however, Id personally lift it some and have a rally/off-road setup with a widebody kit. The focus RS is my dream car after all.
Excellent daily driver for some fun on the way to work. Decent mpg, manual, agile, looks aggressive. I went with Konig Hypergrams carbon with the machined lip, much more aggressive stance and lighter too.
My ST was such a fun little ride. My suggestion is replace the rear motor mount. It greatly reduces the wheel hop that the stock mount was prone to do when you do a hard pull. I got the Mountune one and it took me about 45 minutes to install. Ford Performance has a tune you can put on the ST that wouldn't void your warranty. It didn't raise the power but it raised the torque by 90 lb-ft. That really made the car really fun. That little 2.0 Ecoboost can put out lots of low to mid range torque. The suspension is really great on these cars, while not as great as the Fiesta ST, but this baby can handle for a FWD platform. Also a really big upgrade that will also compliment your upgraded motormount is a Quaffe LSD. I overall love this damn car.
Not sure of Focus ST's in the rest of the world. But we here in South Africa have the Cologne plant in Germany builds. Done all the mods as well as Cobb software. But so far i know of more than 50 Focus ST's who suffered severe engine damage after all the mods. Mostly holes burned in pistons and burned valves.Obviously no factory warrenty's. And very expensive to repair. I removed all mods and have done 70 000 km sofar with no further issues. But head was cracked already on 50 000 km.Front top engine mount broke just after warrenty expiring. Cooling water pipes cracked. But a joy to drive everyday.
My 2014 is such a blast. Things I’d do: -Oil catch can (being Direct Injection it helps keep oil out of the combustion chamber that slips past by being a turbo car) -FMIC, the stock intercooler has a lot of problems with heat soak from factory. -A tune after all the other bolt ons. I got my car E-Tuned by Alan at Edge Autosport. He knows his stuff when it comes to the ST. Of course I’d do wheels and tires. I’m running 1552 Tarmacs and Toyo Proxes that I bought from the great people at yours truly, Fitment Industries.

If you want quiet Awe Resonated Touring and the nvidia q300 are the way to go. Mid level I would say is the mbrp. Loud would be cobb or a little louder would be the awe track. Solid bushings and short shifter are good things to get too. If you do a short shifter, lever>arm>plate. The ebay dfj lever is a super cheap lever that works. It’s basically a steeda clone I believe. Want flush stock snowflakes? 20mm spacers in front and 25mm in the back. Want flush Premium wheels? You have to cut your front studs a bit but same spacers otherwise you have to run 25mm in the front and back. Most people grab the garageline spacers. Don’t forget clutch upgrades after you go big turbo. Stock ST clutch is rated for 400tq I believe and the RS clutch for 450tq (RS clutch fits the ST as well as the RS slave cylinder)

I got a 2014 stage 3 st on 93. Honestly, best aftermarket part you could throw on for performance is the intercooler. Definitely not just for the youth. I bought my first ST in 2013 at 38. I bought my second one in 2015. In 2018 I bought my Race Red RS. Been wasting gas from red light to red light ever since 🤣🤣🤣.

My brother has owned a 2016 focus st for a few years now. We just installed an intercooler, intake, downpipe and tune last week. It was a fun car in stock form, but is a blast now. I highly recommend the focus st. You won't regret it. I have a 2019 3.5 ecoboost f150 that is tuned to over 400rwhp and my dad has a stock 2016 3.5 ecoboost f150. Ford's 2.0L and larger ecoboost engines are a lot better than people give them credit for, when maintained properly. They need fresh oil every 5k miles or sooner, not 7,500-10k, like ford recommends. At 5k miles, my oil life meter reads 50%, yet the oil is spent. Used oil analysis reports show that even 7500 mile intervals are too long. These engines are hard on oil, due to being direct injected, high compression and turbocharged. It is also why they make so much low-end torque and overall power. I've seen plenty of 200k+ mile ecoboost f150s that are still reliable and the one thing they all have in common is frequent oil changes.

What transmission mount do you recommend?
@@briancastro8004 I highly recommend AWR Racing mounts. I have all three and I will never go back to stock. They are super super strong and honestly I believe they will outlast the rest of my Focus lol. You can get different durometers too. They can suit whatever stiffness and vibes you care to have.
@@Randoms231 thank you
@@Randoms231 which do you consider best stiffness?
@@briancastro8004 I run 88 all around and I like it but 70 is also good. It depends on how much vibration you want to endure. 70 is a good start point and with AWR you can always swap to stiffer or softer bushings if you want to. Stock to light mods go 70, moderate to very modified 88 and full race go 95.

Best mods for your budget ST build
(based on my experience spending too much):
1. Wheels, tires, coil overs (raceland Ultimos specifically)
2. Depo Racing 3.5" FMIC, muffler & resonator delete + new exhaust tips (or full 3" catback, AWE and Accellatec are great)
3. Cobb Accessport & custom e30 tune
All in you can do this for around ~$3500, making ~300whp/380ftlbs and look good doing it.
(add $2000 for a big turbo, external wastegate and bov for ~380whp)
What wheels do you have on there so far? Do you have it up on the gallery?! -Edgar

This is the way.
Get some sort of tune from Edge, JST, Stratified, etc ~$300-350 for a pump and e30 tune or ~250 for just a pump gas tune(91/93) 280-290 is more realistic hp numbers and about 360 TQ
$1525
Big turbo. BNR 67 or 71 is $1700 if you're on a budget. Both will max out stock fuel and don't need an external gate. Will need blowoff valve and charge pipes though.
Depo Charge pipes $220, Blowoff valve of your choice $40-300; have someone weld the flange for whatever blowoff valve to the depo hot pipe $50-75. 1 Step colder plugs $28 New tune $400-450. 350-375hp
~$2550
If you need MO POWA BABY than you need aux fuel.
If you want more of a flush fitment with the snowflakes you just get 20mm spacer in the front and 25mm in the back on premiums you can do the same if you cut your studs in the front otherwise you have to run 25mm all round.

2013 St3. She treated me great. Fbo. Stratified tune. Sparco wheels and B.C. racing coilovers!!!
2014 Fost owner! Owned it for 3 years now. Still love it
Using nitto NTT5 or something like that. Great tire
My 2014 is such a blast.
Things I’d do:
-Oil catch can (being Direct Injection it helps keep oil out of the combustion chamber that slips past by being a turbo car)
-FMIC, the stock intercooler has a lot of problems with heat soak from factory.
Ayooo do you have if you on the gallery?! -Edgar

Figured I would put this as its own comment
2 port aux will max out either of those turbos. Can normally find them used for about $550 but its $995 new.
Tune revision $150 (save 50 dollars if you have this when you go big turbo on tune) BNR 67 will be at ~425whp and BNR 71 will be ~475whp when you go BT that ls when you really should be grabbing your 3 inch catback for the actual performance so it can breath.
I have a 2015 focus st I have a ton of stuff done to it I have it wide bodied, bagged, fender exit, big turbo, FBO tuned, lots mods & custom things coming soon I’ll actual be posting most of my that on my UA-cam too glad to see some love for the ST I love this car!

I just bought a 2016 ST2 about 3 months ago and it came lowered on eibach springs and artisa kinetics on it! I freaking love the setup
OH HELL YEAH! Hope you enjoy that thing homie! 🤘🤘🤘 -Edgar
I got a 2014 stage 3 st on 93. Honestly, best aftermarket part you could throw on for performance is the intercooler. I have the depo racing 3.5 fmic and its incredible and its half the price of bigger well known brands. Charge temps went from 170 to never above 80. Awe track exhaust, catless dp, depo racing intake pipe and air filter. Have the flash tune from stratified for a little over 6000 miles and I can say, it's VERY fun to drive as a daily. Not too sure how much whp but if I had to guess 270-280ish and torque in the 300s. From a roll, it rips and it feels great.
Any other plans for it? -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Maybe later down the line I'll big turbo it and maybe change the fuel system. As of right now though, gas prices are eating up my wallet
Rocking the FiST myself but I love me some Focus action.
I have an Hyundai Elantra GT and I love it. Hatchbacks are the move for a both fun and practical driving experience.
Heard good things, any big plans for it?! -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Already put an exhaust on it. Next is probably going to be wheels (from FI (; ), and then in no particular order: different blow off valve, 2022 i30N conversion (both bumpers, headlights, taillights, skirt, spoiler), chrome delete wrap. Those are the ones I have planned. Any other performance mods or anything like that I’ll probably do later on. I’d rather focus on looks because I enjoy the way to drives for right now
Bought mines brand new!! I love it! Is perfect the way it is stock. The only thing I did is bought the ST 3 carbon fiber trim. In Europe they been had the ST since 2002. As for the RS badge its been around for a long time.
Ayeee thats whats up homie! -Edgar
I bought mine new in 2018 and I really like it. People have different ideas of what they want to do with their ST's and that's good.
I'm more into the external body mods than modifying the engine...I'm good with the way it came from the factory.
They're fun cars to drive...I'm now at 64,000 miles, and no issues!
I’m bout to buy a used 40k miles one. Same year 2018! A year later have you had any occurring issues yet?
@@KidYouRage No big issues. Just replaced battery and spark plugs after 5 years. That's about it. Stay away from all that crazy stuff people like to do that I don't think adds real power to the engine and you'll be good to go.
@@KidYouRage No engine issues just basic maintenace from the time i drove it off the show room floor. Great car.
@@KidYouRage Now at 90,000 miles. Changed battery, fluids, spark plugs, rear struts and brakes...no other issues. Car runs like the day I bought it.
well, I didn't have enough for an ST. so I got an SE. I have done son fun things to it. OptionLabs wheels , bilstein coils from you guys , changed the bumpers and some other little things . today I just got some flowmaster muffler and my cold air intake is on the day to be delivered today. so far is not the fastest car on earth but it looks awesome and I love it

That'll be insane. Anything can become a build with enough time passed by. -Edgar
Love my ‘13 st2 more than anything, haven’t made it to cosmetics much yet but if it’s a bolt on, it’s done. Not mentioned in this video I HIGHLY recommend a short shifter as well as motor mounts changes the entire feel of the car.
Cannot forget an air/oil separator, yes Ik it’s not a Subaru but seriously, if you’re going to do anything more than just the casual pull here and there, please consider one of these it’ll save you so much in the long run

That’s crazy I was thinking the same thing
wish i owned a st. they’re so fun
