I own a Mk3 RS with lots of mods. This looks around 390-400 bhp - full bolt-ons, not the 460 claimed. If its hot, I can see timing being pulled. They are also notorious to heat-up. I'm running a thicker rad and soon will install an oil cooler. Then after that you start to heat up the power steering.
Looks like it might be a Revo Stage 2 tuned MK3 with 440HP max ,but on warm days it probably only running around 410HP. These engines are known to get really hot so for example Revo engineered a safety feature in their software which will auto reduce power if IAT or EGT climbs up to undesirable levels.
With 40+ laps in a 420bhp Focus RS I can assure you that this car is not operating properly if it is tuned to 470bhp, something is definitely wrong with that car…
If I were you, Misha, I would seriously have a look in the car to see if there are any loose items. It can be really dangerous having things flying around when shit hits the fan.
Exactly! I was on track last week and getting rid of the loose items was in the rules and they even randomly checked it. A professional like Misha should definitely have this in pre-drive checklist.
Here in Finland you are not even allowed on track if there is something loose inside car just because of this, that headrest flying in the back would do serious damage :/ luckily nothing happened!
Looks like Misha proves nearly every video: Upgrade Tires/wheels, Brakes, Cooling, then maybe horsepower mods only after the previous items. Also proves good driver with a properly sorted car more than makes up for the "MORE POWER" tune.
For track use - yes. However most of the cars Misha drives are not track cars, so they normally dont really ever see the kind of sustained heat that driving on the ring provides. On the street less cooling is just fine. Added power is only used for short bursts on the street unless you are a complete lunatic.
Lovely car but think it's carrying an issue - it seems to be low on power. My fiesta st with 215hp had higher top speeds going into Tiergarten and Schwedenkreuz on a hot evening. Hopefully it's an easy fix for the owner
@redatorak If i tell you that you know sh!t you will ask me why?Ford didnt recall the pre '17 gen but any Ford dealer can upgrade the map of ECU to rev.2 that all cars doing 341-344 bhp and 450nm torque.🤡
For everyone wondering why it seems so slow in the higher gears is because the car is experiencing heat Soak from the Turbo. This is caused by the Turbo getting too hot and putting hot air back into the engine. Which normally can be fixed by an upgraded Intercooler. I had the same problem with my Focus ST at 30 PSI with the stock Intercooler. The ECU will detect hot temperatures in the engine bay caused by the Turbo and will cause the car to go in sort of a limp mode until it can properly get the engine to temperature. Which is why you see it struggling past 120 mph
The thing i love the most about this videos is the fact that those car owners did a few burnouts or a few quarters pools and thought thay tested the car until micha gets in the driver seat and show them all the flaws of their cars and also what's it's capable of ❤
I am watching all of your videos and love them. There is a common issue that modifications to upgrade the engine power are generally made without knowledge. We can also see that on your videos. Mostly these cars have always have a overheating problem. Cheaply made modifications brings these problems. I can understand that people does not want to spend more on the car but great power skill brings the hospital bills. There lots off cooling stuff that are sold after market like bigger and better radiators, oil radiators and racing coolants.
4:07 you can see what Misha refers to, the left side, next to the tachometer, looks like a windows washer sprayed some. Nice run. You should make a comparison of which factory or near factory car did not overheat on the Nürnburgring. Would be fun to watch :)
I have a stage 3 focus Rs that I used to drive at Sebring. Countless issues with overheating and losing rdu and power. This car could absolutely be 460bhp, when it’s running hot, the car essentially runs in limp mode without really telling you, so you will gradually lose power until either the RDU shuts off or until the ecu finally tells you it’s pulling power.
Het wordt tijd dat er standaard een camera montage punt onder het dashboard wordt gemaakt door de autofabrikanten om het voeten werk van Misha te kunnen filmen.
I remember this car came out it was so hyped out by ford because of the e brake and drift button it was the hottest hatch in its year. But know they kind of go under the radar but still pretty expensive to buy they hold value pretty well i guess.
I have a mk3 RS and I love it! But it does run on the hotter side when I push it on the track. My first 2 significant mods are going to be an oil cooler and an air oil separator. After that I might do the usual power upgrades.
i didn't see if there was a intercooler mod but there better be. Focus Rs, mustang EB's, Rangers, all use a variety of 2.3l open deck Ecoboost motors. Intercooler upgrade is best thing you can do. I am pretty sure that Focus RS is a 2.3l. they heat up quick without it. Ford really pooped then bed when designing the intercooler.
It's probably a feature enable by the tune. The engine cuts off right when the clutch is depressed automatically. Theoretically it makes you a little faster since you don't have the potential delay of having to travel your foot from the gas pedal.
Agreed. Anyway, the owner mentioned "260" I believe, which since he's from the US is probably Fahrenheit, -> ~125° C. And I assume that's water temp, because oil temp of 125° C would not yet be a problem.
i have the privilage to drive a mark 3 RS as my daily. I always loved the Focus RS models and as i could get one, i did it. Love the car, love the chasis and finaly, you gotta drive one. Thx for the video 👍
That's the same 2,3l like Ford mustang Ecoboost. With 350hp of origin this engine is already hot but with 100hp more it is necessary to upgrade all the heat exchangers. Always the same thing!😁
Think there is an issue… I don’t see 460hp there? More like 250.. or it’s in pre limp mode? For 460hp you need forged engine and upgraded turbo! The rattling is from the hpfp i guess? Some seem to be ticking very loud😅
What was your impressions with the car besides the lack of cooling and obviously a non accurate claim of power. (probably 380ish hp the super Small turbo runs out of steam past 100mph pretty quickly
I own an focus ST and trust me it has more power to give on a stock turbo this there is something majorly wrong with the car my is a diesel tuned to 270 and it seems like it could out perform this
I've got a mk3 RS with a custom tune running on 94 AKI. This looks like about the same power levels; mine is 335hp/393tq to the wheels on vdyno, 2 way average over 6 runs. It's the 4th gear acceleration that really shows it's nowhere near 460hp. I'm sure the tuner claims 460 crank, but IMO it's not even close.
People always want power and spend thousands of dollars to say I have “X” amount of power but you would have more fun if you just spent half and made that engine more fun and you can floor it all day with zero issues. Watching too many videos with heating videos and I cannot understand why people never learn.
It does not matter to these people. They use these cars for traffic light "racing" and maybe short bursts at the motorway. And mostly you just see these cars in the city where they just want them to be loud to get attention. Pathetic, but there you go.
That rattling sound at the begining of the video qhen the hood is opened sounds annoying, could it be the turbo actuator that needs to be adjusted? Cool car btw and nice driving!
