I have several years of experience in Audio/Video and I tried the same comparision between the 820 and the 9000 with a high-end chain inside a dark room. If you correctly fine tune the two players, the difference in the video quality is absolutely very little or even not noticeable. The big difference is only in the analog audio section, where the 9000 greatly outperform the 820. So, the choice is very simple: if you connect the player to your AVR only using the HDMI connector, you can go for the 820 without any regret, but if you need to connect the player to the AVR using the analog connections, the 9000 has absolutely to be your choice.
Im thinking of grabbing the 820 now, and upgrading to the 9000 in a few months. The 820 can then live in my bedroom where my audio demands aren't as severe. I don't even have the speaker set up I want to stream music with set up in my main room yet so I dont see the point. I do wish that the 9000 had an HDMI input though, Id like to be able to use its up conversion with other devices.
@@RobertK1993 The Sony UBP-X800M2 has a very good audio section, superior to the Panasonic 820, but the Panasonic is far better in the video section. However, the Panasonic 9000 is superior to the Sony in any field.
I have been debating and saving up for the UB9000 for months but having come across the UB820 and in particular your great review I have decided to save my money and go for the UB820. Thank You
In the 4k Non HDR comparison, the 9000 seemed brighter, more washed out. The 820 had more vibrant colors. The 'with HDR' comparison, you showed darker scenes so the 9000 ended up being the better picture, 820 was harder to see as it was darker. Differences that can probably only be noticed in a side by side comparison. Seems both models are excellent.
Got the ub820 myself, HUGE upgrade from my previous sony ubx800. Can't comment on the 9000, but all I can say is that the hdr/dolby vision is now amazing on my oled.
@@dippin1523 In terms of reliability it was / the 2 ubx800 I owned were littered with software faults / had to turn off and unplug at the mains on a daily basis. Ub820 has been flawless and the oled optimisation setting works a treat. That's just my own experiences.
@@iansteventon4221 Funny, I just sent my UB820 back for pixelating and speed issues. just had it for four days. we will see what the replacement does. From what I saw, the UBX800 looked more cinematic than the UB820. Deeper blacks on the UBX 800
I presently have the ub820 and have the ub9000 on order to take advantage of the analog audio using the balanced stereo analog output. As for the image comparison, I found in non HDR, the 820 is more colour saturated and the 9000 has better detail info in the shadows. With HDR I could not see any difference.
Thanks for the coparason, yes the Panasonic 820 is perfect for me as it happens. I'm ordering one right now from amazon to be delivered by tomorrow. Thank you.
I need the front panel control buttons, I will use the analog audiophile outputs and I like the superior build of the high end one. A 9000 for me please.
Question: does the tank build of the UB9000 result in a more quiet player? There are reviews where the 820/824 are rather noisy (drive/fan) when playing quiet parts of a movie.
Hi, correct the UB9000 is a quieter player then the 820/824, but in saying that, with a player of this price i would suspect you have a hometheater to go with it and even in quiet parts, the player will not be a distraction, but if you are sitting close to the player then yes you will hear the fan/driver noise. but not a deal breaker at all.
Great video! Were there two different size tv's? The one on the left looked smaller than the one on the right. The UB820 and the tv on the left video content looked smaller and darker than the more larger tv on the right.
Recently purchased this unit going to pair it with a Samsung QN900B which does not support dolby vision, should i turn off dolby vision on the 4k bluray player or leave it on. Any help would be great ? Thanks.. Phil
Hi, If you keep it on and your Samsung or any display that dosnt support Dolby Vision is plugged into it, It will revert back to a normal non Dolby Vision picture. So no harm in keeping it on. Regards.
The UB 9000 has a HDR enhancing feature for projectors and I hear is a game changer if your using with a projector that the 820 doesn't have so if your watching on a TV then go with the 820 but for projector go 9000
Could I get any more specific information about how and why the audio on UB9000 is better than the UB820? Does this refer to analogue audio out from DVD / CD? Thanks
Hello, may i have question? Which audio codec suport 820 via USB from exeternal hdd. I have read also there is not options for select audio track, it is only play first track from mkv? it is true?
Thanks for the video. I was trying to decide between these two. To me the 820 looks better in every test. The colors seem more vibrant. When the test first started I was concentrating on the picture and I thought wow the 9000 is worth it and I looked below and saw the 820 was on the left. The 820 is $100 off at best buy so I just went and bought. Can't wait to get it hooked up to my Q90R.
I'm more I interested in audio quality for my 2 channel speakers without spending premium money can I use the front connectors to my pre amp to my main amplifier or should I get the Big brother player
Hi, If you are running an analog signal to a power amp and then to your speakers then yes the UB9000 is for you. Bascially for 2ch audio while using the analog then the UB9000 is MUCH better
I know this was a few years ago. How did that work out? I was going thru the same debate. Problem is I want to use my towers and subs but they r dedicated to my preamp in 2 channel system. I run a pair of REL subs and the west coast sales rep(very knowledgeable guy) suggest I go digital out from the tv(or I guess the 820 would work too) to my dedicated dac and let tbe dac do the conversion since a dedicated dac is far superior than any TV or 4k player on tbe market could ever be. I think this is the way to go. Implementing a AV reciever means I'd have to put a switch to tell my 2 two towers snd 2 subs(all active) to recieve either my pre or av. So gonna try the digital to dac option and see if I can get 2 my channel system to compete with av multiple channel option. But was curious how you ended up liking yours.
I bought a UB820 a few days ago. Thanks to the great folks from West Coast HiFi in Perth for reminding me that my previous Panasonic Bluray player, also acts as an amp for my home theatre speakers so obviously, I kept that and connected the 820 into my new LG OLED CX 65" TV. Now to figure out why my Centre Speaker isn't working... 🤔
I’m considering buying one of these two models. Unfortunately I couldn’t watch the entire video because I have not yet seen any of the movies you used for demos and I didn’t want any spoilers. Still gave you a thumbs up though.😊
Sorry for y English.. Actually I have Pioneer BDP-LX52 I'm interested for upgrade my system with a new native 4K Blu-ray player the sound quality of my LX52 is excellent the DP-UB820 compared to the LX52 which is better in sound quality? otherwise which Blu-ray player do you recommend to replace my LX52? Thanks
I found the following comment under another UA-cam review for the UB9000 where the poster claims the sound quality difference during movie playback of the UB9000 vs. the UB820 was "astounding": "Randy Norris Randy Norris 11 months ago I recognize that this video was posted almost 2 years ago but I thought I would add some thoughts since I just bought the 9000. I have a JVC X790R 4k pixel shifting projector. I had the Panasonic dp-ub820 and I moved that to pair with my Sony Z9D. I was not expecting much of a change because both players have the same video processing chip set but wow I was wrong. The audio quality differences during movie playback are astounding! Now I did expect some improvement in sound quality but the player far exceeded my expectations in that regard. But the video quality truly blew me away - the extra ability to adjust the HDR roll off by selecting the basic luminance projector made a huge difference - far more than I expected! And on the other side the 820 does a fabulous job in the room with the Z9D. I hope these observations help someone." END OF RANDY'S QUOTE. Can anyone who has tried both these players comment on the sound difference, if any, between the UB820 and UB9000 during movie playback? Thanks!
Hi, I have worked with Panasonic directly and the video quality is EXACTLY the same, they use the same chipset and HDMI board etc. Most likely he didn't update the UB820 and the UB9000 came with the latest update, Reason why I say that is he stated the UB9000 you could change the HDR roll-off, that feature is available in the UB820. As for Audio if he is using analog then yes the UB9000 is better however if you are using the audio by HDMI ( which the majority of people would do ) the UB820 and UB9000 is EXACTLY the same. Also if you don't need balanced output etc. that's why the majority of the population will only use HDMI for both audio and video. the UB820 will perform the same as the UB9000 and leave more cash in your pocket.
When you test these players with and without hdr did you use the blu-ray disc or did you turn hdr off ??i have the 820 and i think its much better than the 9000 rich in color i love mines now i need to practice to twick it so that it will play diffrent region codes i hear if you put a disc in and hit menu it should work
There isn't really visible difference. However, there isn't much use to a video comparison, because UA-cam compresses the content. Additionally. keep in mind that your camera will affect how it looks in person too.
Well, I was one that always thought Digital was Digital and there was minimal difference. This comparison dispels that belief as I felt the 9000 was better. I could see much more detail on the 9000 than the 820.
@ the hdmi cable really matters. if you are buying the 9000 you need a high end hdmi like audioquest vodka or cinnamon. to be honest there is a difference between the stock hdmi and a high end one. also it would help if you had high end ac power cable i have both and you can see a difference with the high end cable compared to stock
Aaron Gregg I disagree...it’s been shown that as long as a basic HDMI cable passes the digital signal correctly (which most do) there is nothing to be gained by expensive ‘videophile’ cables. Yes they are better constructed and will probably last longer but no improvement in picture quality.
Its the same tv, but 2 different videos and placed side by side on editing. We didn't touch the image. However, the tripod stand was a little moved which resulted in the change of image size.
The 820 looked better overall. Wished this was available when I bought my Samsung. I stream Netflix and Amazon, and Dolby vision with HDR is awesome! Better than the DirecTV movie package.
For CD playback, how does this compare to a dedicated CD player such as the $300 Yamaha cd-S300? I could get the 820 for $400 and the S3000 for $300 and still have an extra $300 in my pocket.
Are these two different kinds of TV's? Both images are nice but the 9000 has a brighter and sharper image. The Crutchfield Rep claims these both have the exact same video hardware.
For some reason unknown to me my UB 820 is not passing "Dolby Atmos" sound (Bitstreamed to Anthem AVR, 7.2.2 setup) just displays on the AVR as "Dolby Ex 3/3"?? Tested 2 discs Bluray and 4K Bluray, my OPPO 93 Bluray does but not UB 820? Anyone has the same issue?
@@miker948 Thanks for your response. But that is false advertising by Panasonic. They claim to process Dolby Atmos and DTS:X by this system. See their website

Wouldn’t the 9000 be a better choice if you were using a projector? 9000 has a couple more HDR lumen options specifically for projectors. OR would the end result be about the same??
In my opinion I think I"m seeing the 9000 give a better picture, if as you suggest this is an apples to apples test. The 9000 has a bigger area of detail, if you look at the walls where Gru is you'll see alot more detail behind him. The bright light above the little blue guy thing is supposed to be a spot light and that scene works better on the 9000, more spectacular detail and more shadow detail. Hands down the 9000 is the clear winner of this test and it should be, it's twice the price. You shouldn't be paying twice the price for features only you should get better performance and you do with the 9000.
My thoughts exactly, When I was watching i was constantly looking at the detail behind the characters, Reflection on the walls and shadowing, And you can clearly see more detail in the image, People who are saying its only contrast im not sure what they are seeing, Im not saying its 10 times better buy it is clearly a better picture
Hi Thinking of buying this player but how is the video/audio playback support through USB from external hdd? And does it support showing subtitles in SRT format? Any help appriciated
Really surprising video. I agree the 820 looked better with non-HDR content. Seemed to have a wider colour range where the 9000 seemed flatter and the brightness was too booted. On the HDR stuff, it looked identical. I'm passing the audio out via HDMI to my Denon AVR so i don't need the audio stuff on the 9000 so i'm buying the 820. Cheers!!

okay, the camera was a little off, the fact that you need the camera ( or the human eye ) to be EXACTLY at the same place to tell a difference if any, tells you that your money is better spend else where then buying the UB9000 over the UB820. Don't you agree ( in terms of video and audio ). What people don't understand is for Video and audio running of HDMI, the two are EXACTLY the same. analogue is where its different but the majority of us will only us HDMI. save the money and buy the UB820.
@@TechinaSec101 i have a UB820. Whether or not they're exactly the same is hard to say in your video because the camera is off, and it has affected the captured image. @@CaseTheCorvetteMan Hi, On paper, they are the same if you are using HDMI for video and Audio. On the video, it is the same ( even if the video is a little off ) because it is using HDMI on both players. So we could confirm that they are both the same. Buy the UB9000 only if you are using Analog. I see it in person and they are the same.
@@TechinaSec101 the whole purpose of your video seems to be to compare the two, but to do so, the video needs to be EQUAL, not filmed from two different locations with different angles and different lighting, etc etc. Someone that hasn't seen either one is going to have a hard time calling both those images "the same", because they look different, and that is all due to the way you recorded it.
@@CaseTheCorvetteMan okay :) the video isn't off by miles, its just slightly off. and if that " Slightly off " angle is the cause for you not to see any difference. maybe the difference is not worth it :) I understand what your saying. Thank you for pointing it out :D Have a great day.
Why is the actual picture larger on the 9000 vs the 820? Thought it was supposed to be the same TV? If the 9000 fills the screen more, seems like a big edge

Can u help me does both support dolby atmos? And I have the samsung q90r soundbar that supports atmos so if I buy the ub820 and put a 4k atmos disc movie will the bluray support the atmos with my directly connection with my soundbar?
As long as your player can bitstream TrueHD (nearly all current Blu-ray players do, even non-4K models), it can bitstream Atmos from discs as it's just TrueHD with metadata. (Atmos from streaming services is DD+ with metadata which is lower quality than TrueHD Atmos.) Same for DTS:X which is DTS-HD MA with metadata.
Would you be able to help in the purchase of a soundbar? There is a Nakamichi Ultra 9.2 but also a good LG and Samsung. The UA-cam’s say the Nakamichi is pretty hot, but would really like your input.
Nakamichi is the superior chose. I installed it at my dad's house and I have the lg sj9 with atmos which sounds great but only one hdmi and no dts:x support. Go with nakamichi they support the new standards with a firmware this year

Hello.I have the ub 9000 for 2.5 months. On some discs at the beginning of the movie for 5 -15 minutes, it gives me a high-frequency whistle (tiiiiiiit) which stops after the first10-15 minutes of the movie(i think not to all discs but iam not sure). The picture is perfect,no problems. But the noise....is problem. All these with simple blu ray disks.I have not 4k disks.A technician friend told me that I should demand to have the player replaced with a new one.I have a 20 year pionner dvd player with no problems and noises with very silent drive!!Your's was quiet??
Thank you! For double the price I wanted to see how much better the 9000 was and I now know I’ll be getting the UB820 :) how’s the comparison sound wise?
Hi, It is imposable to do a side by side on 1 tv. and getting 2 tv's of the same model and size placing them side by side also very hard. I filmed the UB820 first then I filmed the UB9000 and put them side by side. That's why its a little bit bigger as the camera was moved. :)
Thanks for the comparison. Is the DP-UB820 still your recommendation for a UHD BD player that supports both DV & HDR10+? Do you think I should wait for an upcoming model that supports both formats?
I'm pretty sure the 820 & 9000 are still the only 4K players on the U.S. market that support both DV & HDR10+; Panasonic also offers the UB450 in Europe but it's not available here. Ironically, AFAIK the only U.S. TV brand that supports both across its entire line is Vizio, definitely nowhere near as premium as Panasonic. (Hisense, even lower on the food chain than Vizio, offers both on its midrange & high-end models but is short of similarly priced Vizios on other features.)
Nice comparisons. On the non-HDR 4K sample, the 820 clearly had an edge over the 9000. Its image had more pop with better color saturation. To my eyes, the 4K HDR samples looked pretty much the same so the $500 US or so extra cost of the 9000 is not justified unless the additional audio capabilities of the 9000 are a must (or you want the solid tank-like build that the Oppo 203 and 205 have). Question: When you ran the HDR clips did you use the HDR Optimizer? If so what were your impressions of it?
Hi, thank you for your comment, we ran two HDR clips, one was normal HDR and the other was HDR with the Optimizer set to " light environment " what i could say is that it does improve the PQ quality especially when your display dosnt have the 1000nits for HDR and for Projectors i think its a game changer.
The UB9000 certainly has more detail in HD compared to the UB820 but I believe not worth the extra cost, however if you are going to use it for absolute high quality go for it you will not be disappointed.
Great video. I have the UB820 and one thing not many reviews mention is the Windows 3.1 like interface. It's hideous! If you can get past that, it's a great player that I'm really happy with
has anybody ever tried to view pictures via usb and after got problems watching 2k and 4k discs? got this ub820 i love the performance of it but its frustratingly sometimes when this lines and dots showing when you start watching..i bought already the second player and i thought it was a factory defect but its not...be aware of it... but i really love this player
I disagree with your conclusion: in HDR mode the 9000 is slightly better but in 4K non hdr mode the 9000 is A LOT better. The 820, in comparison has an evident crush in the lower lights, hidin details of the image. Colours are less natural more "pumped", the whole frame is less natural than the 9000 with a lot of details missing. Stand alone the 820 has a very nice picture but vs the 9000 there's no story. Don't be fooled by the "commercial" looks of innatural contrast/colours: the more "pop" is in fact a boosted contrast like the one you see in big stores to attract people but has nothing to do with a "perfect" image rendering.
but " slightly better " is not worth the price difference between these two players. not only that. it is " slightly better " cause you are viewing them side by side.
Nope 820 is a far better value. I bought both and compared so its a no brainier for me i kept the 820. Don't get me wrong the 9000 is nice but not 2 times the price nice.
I have given up buying expensive Blu Players especially having paid a Grand for a Panasonic that broke down after 13 months which was 1 month after the guarantee had run out. I then replaced that with a Sony that cost £350 that lasted 3 years before it broke down and then brought another Sony for £69 in a sale on Amazon which originally retailed at £119. I have had it now for over 5 years and is it still runs as good as the day I brought it brand new. It even has more features and Blu Ray discs load a lot faster than the other two that cost way more money. As for it's picture and sound quality it's exactly the same as the more expensive models that broke down in no time at all. The only thing you are getting for your money by paying more for a blu ray player is the build quality and nothing more. As for anything else you are wasting your money. If you want a nice quiet draw, and something that looks good then spend your money on that. But if you just want a good picture and sound quality and do not mind a bit of plastic and how big the player is. You can get the the same for a tenth of the price. If you think you are getting some better Laser inside the one that costs a grand, you are very much mistaken, at the end of day the Lasers inside them are no better than the ones that come in an Optical Drive you can buy for your Desktop Computer for 20 bucks. If a cheap player breaks down, you can easily replace it. But when something that costs a Grand breaks down after 13 months. That is a kick in the teeth and my new name for Panasonic is PanaChronic :)))))))). I believe their motto is Ideas For Life. What a fucking JOKE LOL I would not buy another one of their products ever again.
couldnt agree more. i do not think the High end ones will have better quality sound or image compared with the mid-rang players. different features maybe but not quality especially when using HDMI.
hi, have you compared them yourself side by side ? cause even on the website and spec. sheet. if you are not using anything other then HDMI then it uses exactly the same, the small differences are so small that you wont see it in real time.

Colour is noticeably richer on the UB820! Black level noticeably deeper as well. Having said that, there is noticeably more detail, especially in background on the 9000, which appears to be due to the fact it is visibly brighter as well. Most experts agree that colour and black levels are more important than amount of fine detail that can be seen.
No it’s not dude. Anyone with eyes can see the picture quality is different. The reviewer said the settings are the same on the TV and each player. As I said above, the colour is noticeably deeper/richer on the 820 and black levels are visibly better. For those who want more detail and brighter image at the expense of the others, they may prefer the UB9000 and pay double for it too.
@@jmp6943 Fingerstyle Worship your eyes cannot pick up differences through UA-cam filmed with a camera because of the camera exposure. That's why you should never try to compare tvs side by side on a UA-cam video as the image doesn't translate correctly due to camera exposure. So if you think you can spot differences on this UA-cam video you are sadly mistaken.
I’m not mistaken. I can SEE the differences very clearly. The image I’m seeing on my I Pad Pro is visibly different. The camera that filmed it and the way UA-cam is presenting it are the same. And the images are visibly different. The only one sadly mistaken is you. Take your argument elsewhere. I’ll not engage you further...not worth it. Problem with this is that animated films and cgi heavy films use a 2KI (2k intermediate) which is then upscaled to 4k on export. It's not true native 4k.
I've come to ignore much of the "real vs. fake 4K" arguments. Even with a 2K DI, Hollywood movies still tend to have a wider color palette than SDR and thus will benefit from even HDR10; I've always felt HDR is a greater benefit of 4K formats than 4K itself.
I just wondered how Panasonic's two machines measure up to the Pioneer UDP LX 800. The reason I ask is that I own a lot of SACD and DVD Audio discs which isn't catered for by the Panasonic machines. I just wondered if you had any thoughts on it and whether I would be mad to spend £2199 on a blu ray player? Splendid channel you have by the way. All the best wishes. Steve
thank you for your comment, if the SACD is what you are after i think the Oppo 205 will be your best player and will cost alot less then the LX800, personally i do not think the oppo 205 and LX800 will have enough deference to justify the price increase.
Owning an OPPO UDP-205 and recently purchasing the Panasonic ub9000, I was amazed that no mention was made of the clunky OS in the ub9000. The screen saver can only be enabled of disabled, but you cannot set a minimum time before it activates? The Oppo is simply more practical and intuitive and picture quality is visibly better than the ub9000. Why Oppo decided to opt out of BluRay players is beyond me.
Thank you, but mine is a work in progress. The Nakamichi just seems too good to be true, even though their tech response, even pre-sale, is great. Really could use at least, a few comments. God bless.
Hi Tech in a sec, great videos. Im thinking about upgrading my 4k player to the Panasonic ub820 but can you confirm whether it supports Dolby Atmos and 3d? Also is it a better player than the Sony ubpx800? Thanks for your time.
Hi, thank you for your comment. as for the formats you are asking yes it will support Dolby Atmos , DTS:X and 3d. if its better then the Sony x800. i think they are the same but the HDR feature on the Panasonic is amazing and that is why i would lean towards the UB820.
@@TechinaSec101 the sony doesnt auto switch to dolby vision whereas the panasonic changes depending on the disc; that minor thing was enough to sway me.
hello congratulations for the perfect video comparison about the devices not known a video difference between the 2 to justify the price much higher than ub9000 compared ub820, did you notice differences between the 2 trying them live? in terms of image quality and realism thank you ps: I just bought a Panasonic ub820 I was undecided with the Sony x800 in the end I took Panasonic and I hope I made the right choice from the video above if the differences are so minimal I am very happy with my purchase
The UB820 is the best value for money especially if your using HDMI ( not analogue ), and i feel it is miles ahead from the Sony with its HDR opt., only think Sony has would be playing MKV files from a USB but if thats not you then you currently have one of the best player on the market ( not even the Oppo 203 / 205 could touch the UB820 on PQ ) Also thank you for your kind words, Please remember to send a picture of your setup, it would be great to see it.
I'm sure you will be happy , Panasonic's HCX processor is the best there is , Have both the Oppo 103 and the 203 and the picture is just that bit clearer on the Panasonic , Build quality was all ways Panasonic's down fall but with the UB 9000 here now they can finally match the Oppo build quality but a bit costly
Wow I truly see that the 820 picture to me looks better given it price point the 9000 is very expensive an without seeing a big difference why go for it 820 for me as you show does better witch so expensive not always better thxs great video
Have used the PANASONIC DP-UB9004EGK for a week on my PANASONIC TX-49FXW784 LED LCD TV. Is’t me but ever time that the disc come out it’s hot. Have not so many 4K UHD Blu-rays but like the sharpness. My TV have not so many nits only 474. Maybe I buy a better Panasonic OLED TV such as the TX-55HZW2004. Normally I buy always the Pioneer but the UDP-LX500/800 is not come out after 21 months waiting. Like the build quality not so heavy as the Pioneer.
Yes, though there are very few older TVs that support both 4K & 3D and even fewer that also throw in HDR. (I had a 2016 model Sony with 4K & 3D but no HDR; my ex-partner took it with her when she moved out before I even had a 4K player.)
After waiting for a year finally got my Panasonic UB 820 last week after watching your video awesome picture quality on my LG 2016 signature G6 OLED. just one concern don't know if it has Todo with my 2016 OLED but I noticed only on Dolby vision some movies like power rangers on the black bar it flickers like turning grey has anybody experience that with there 2016 OLED model.
How is this possible? HDMI Cable periodic noise and loss of information I would have switched the HDMI cables or the players and reran the Demos, yes Inferior cables can make a superior player look worse than a inferior player as I have discovered for my self. What is periodic noise? Periodic noises are signal independent but spatially dependent noises that corrupt digital images by adding periodically or quasi-periodically distributed repetitive patterns when external interferences occur during image acquisition/transmission.
Do you ever touch the luma High/Med controls under the sharpness setting for HDR discs, or leave them on the default setting of 0 ? Thanks
Sony UBP-X800M2 is better val
@@RobertK1993 The Sony UBP-X800M2 has a very good audio section, superior to the Panasonic 820, but the Panasonic is far better in the video section. However, the Panasonic 9000 is superior to the Sony in any field.

@@iansteventon4221 Funny, I just sent my UB820 back for pixelating and speed issues. just had it for four days. we will see what the replacement does. From what I saw, the UBX800 looked more cinematic than the UB820. Deeper blacks on the UBX 800

The 900 looks a little brighter
But I like the 820 more for the sharpness.
Randy King they are both good and chances are if they are not side by side you couldn’t tell the difference so save the money and get the 820. :)
Yes your right
Turning TV brightness up a bit could rectify the brightness difference.
Thank you.

Is there any difference of the hdmi-out sound quality ?
Hi,
Their is zero difference in HDMI-out sound quality.
Thanks.. Phil
Hi,
If you keep it on and your Samsung or any display that dosnt support Dolby Vision is plugged into it, It will revert back to a normal non Dolby Vision picture. So no harm in keeping it on.
Regards.
When I turn on Dolby and play a disc the screen goes red. Turn it off and play in HDR it plays normally. Any ideas?
The UB 9000 has a HDR enhancing feature for projectors and I hear is a game changer if your using with a projector that the 820 doesn't have so if your watching on a TV then go with the 820 but for projector go 9000
I have the ub820 and if your talking about the luminance selector for projectors, the ub820 has that feature
Can you compare the sound quality to for example an Oppo 205?
I would love to but i do not have an Oppo 205. all what you see on my channel is bought by me. iam sorry
Panasonic ub820 vs ub9000 - so, which is better ?
Do these players upscale video quality from normal SD DVD? Do they upscale videos played through the usb?
What if I play movies via USB? Does it support the sounds of Dolby Atmos and DTSX, and the sound passes raw to the theater, like the original Bluray?
Both don't support lossless audio in the video from NAS nor USB thumbs
I'm more I interested in audio quality for my 2 channel speakers without spending premium money can I use the front connectors to my pre amp to my main amplifier or should I get the Big brother player
Hi,
If you are running an analog signal to a power amp and then to your speakers then yes the UB9000 is for you. Bascially for 2ch audio while using the analog then the UB9000 is MUCH better
Thank you :)
Would I be able to use 5.1 instead with the higher res format?
why is one picture narrower? UB820?
I'm buying the 820 based on this review thanks guys
I bought a UB820 a few days ago. Thanks to the great folks from West Coast HiFi in Perth for reminding me that my previous Panasonic Bluray player, also acts as an amp for my home theatre speakers so obviously, I kept that and connected the 820 into my new LG OLED CX 65" TV. I recognize that this video was posted almost 2 years ago but I thought I would add some thoughts since I just bought the 9000. I hope these observations help someone."
END OF RANDY'S QUOTE.
Can anyone who has tried both these players comment on the sound difference, if any, between the UB820 and UB9000 during movie playback?
Thanks!
Hi,
I have worked with Panasonic directly and the video quality is EXACTLY the same, they use the same chipset and HDMI board etc.
Great comparison!
Well, I was one that always thought Digital was Digital and there was minimal difference. This comparison dispels that belief as I felt the 9000 was better. I could see much more detail on the 9000 than the 820.
Same... but I dont got $1k I do have $450
@ the hdmi cable really matters. if you are buying the 9000 you need a high end hdmi like audioquest vodka or cinnamon. to be honest there is a difference between the stock hdmi and a high end one. also it would help if you had high end ac power cable i have both and you can see a difference with the high end cable compared to stock
Aaron Gregg I disagree...it’s been shown that as long as a basic HDMI cable passes the digital signal correctly (which most do) there is nothing to be gained by expensive ‘videophile’ cables. Yes they are better constructed and will probably last longer but no improvement in picture quality.
@@oldb3139 believe what you want to believe. but there is science behind the cables and how different conductors produce better picture.
@@aarongregg9699 You coud be absolutely right in the analog world, but in the digital world the difference among working cables are not noticeable.

Wouldn’t the 9000 be a better choice if you were using a projector? 9000 has a couple more HDR lumen options specifically for projectors. OR would the end result be about the same??
Hey, The end result will be the same, most defiantly doesn't justify the price difference between the two players.
I’m wondering what kind of tv you used for this test? Is it a oled tv?

Kinda strange that the 9000 gets a bigger pic vs the 820? why not do a like for like side by side??
Hi,
It is imposable to do a side by side on 1 tv. and getting 2 tv's of the same model and size placing them side by side also very hard.
What you're seeing is a brightness level difference, easily adjusted. Raising it washes out colour while enhancing the dark areas of the image
The UB9000 certainly has more detail in HD compared to the UB820 but I believe not worth the extra cost, however if you are going to use it for absolute high quality go for it you will
not be disappointed.
The difference you were seeing is easily adjustable via slightly increasing brightness on the 820
They have the same picture quality, nothing in it between the two. The only thing the 9000 has is better sound quality and build
Nope 820 is a far better value. I bought both and compared so its a no brainier for me i kept the 820. Don't get me wrong the 9000 is nice but not 2 times the price nice.
Does the 820 support Dolby atmos??
Yes
Better than the UB9000? I don't think so..
hi, have you compared them yourself side by side ? cause even on the website and spec. sheet. if you are not using anything other then HDMI then it uses exactly the same, the small differences are so small that you wont see it in real time.
@@TechinaSec101 I have every single 4k UHD player on the market in my store today, so i have tried everything! I love the UB820! But with the set up i got at home i reckon ub9000 is better. I also have my own electonic department store business in Australia so i know a thing or two about these products.
@@trancepower1205 Hi, thats great, and not sure whats the price difference is over their between the two units, but iam saying for your everyday consumer their is no need to buy the UB9000 over the UB820 as their is hardly any benefit especially if only using HDMI.
Also would you like to send throu your setup and i could future it on this channel ?
hi there, I have the Panny 9000 set up with Sony 500es projector, 135" screen, the results are amazing, I sold the 203 a while ago it was good, but the Panny 9000 is better. The 820 is good, but again the Panny 9000 has the edge. Fantastic picture, the bigger the image it just gets better, and I can sit close to the screen , so much detail , lovely.
He didnt have the 9000 setup right as far as settings and advanced settings.
Thanks for this video! I don't feel like dropping $1,000 on my 4K player!
I gave up my oppo 203 for the ub-820 and as per your demo it is better looking than the 9000 for sure and my set up is 7.2.4
I felt like in despicable me 2 the 9000 was a little washed out and just a tad too bright. The 820 displaying a little bit darker looked better imo.
They look exactly the same..believe it or not the 420 looks almost identical picture wise..
Great video you got a subscriber , I just wish the Panasonic players had the stretch feature that oppo has and I wish the would allow rip Blu-ray play back from a hard drive , and all the audio formats .
thank you for your kind words, I know its a shame they dont have some useful features that the Oppo has, but i use an Nvidia shield and by having the two, i get the best of both worlds.
Yes for some us who have projectors , that stretch feature the oppo had killer , you can stretch letter box to full screen with the right projector lens.
@@michaelfoster3441 Hi, I feel that they are coming out with that feature soon :D
@@TechinaSec101 Its just when I had the panosonic it wouldn't play any of my MKV passthrough Atmos files , and wouldn't play my mp4 passthrough files with Dolby vision and had trouble playing the high fidelity mt2s passthrough files , the oppo plays it all I have a 4 bay Synology 12 terybyte each plug into my oppo, my oppo also plays my 3d BDMV folders the Panasonic does not , if they release one that can do all that I'm buying it .
@@michaelfoster3441 Hi, Yes i know that is the only downside of this unit, but in the video i actually state that it wont play Atmos pass through from MKV files :/ Hoping it will change soon thou.
It's the same picture quality dude across both of them. Only the anologue inputs are higher quality on the 9000.
If you want the last word, and no doubt you do, be my guest.
@@jmp6943 I'm replying because i know you will still read it even if you don't respond. Read what TECH IN A SEC wrote (the same guy that made this video), further down below "hi, have you compared them yourself side by side ? cause even on the website and spec. sheet. if you are not using anything other then HDMI then it uses exactly the same, the small differences are so small that you wont see it in real time." I rest my case.
Great job with this video
After my Samsung BP and pioneer elite is hard 2 find a good BP 4K
I still like the 820 the best, half the price same picture quality.
God bless.
iam trying to buy one but they are not available here just yet.
@@TechinaSec101 the sony doesnt auto switch to dolby vision whereas the panasonic changes depending on the disc; that minor thing was enough to sway me.
hello congratulations for the perfect video comparison
about the devices not known a video difference between the 2 to justify the price much higher than ub9000 compared ub820, did you notice differences between the 2 trying them live? in terms of image quality and realism
thank you
ps: I just bought a Panasonic ub820 I was undecided with the Sony x800
in the end I took Panasonic and I hope I made the right choice
from the video above if the differences are so minimal I am very happy with my purchase
The UB820 is the best value for money especially if your using HDMI ( not analogue ), and i feel it is miles ahead from the Sony with its HDR opt., only think Sony has would be playing MKV files from a USB but if thats not you then you currently have one of the best player on the market ( not even the Oppo 203 / 205 could touch the UB820 on PQ )
Also thank you for your kind words, Please remember to send a picture of your setup, it would be great to see it.
@@TechinaSec101 Tell me please, does pani 820 read the h.265 codec?
Вадим Панфилов hi, sadly it won’t ( it will play the video but won’t output the sound ) so no Atmos or DTS:X
@@TechinaSec101 Thanks)
will not play sound at all or only dtx?
FROM A FIRST LOOK THE PICTURENON ub820 IS EVEN MORE SHAPR AND CLEAR ...
thanks Im buying the 820
At 4:20 you can see much greater detail of the gate with the 9000!
Its the same video processing.
Ofcourse , how 2 times cheaper might be better ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is the UB820 support 3D ?
Well done nice one.
