Welcome back, goblins! This is another topic that we are very passionate about. Alters that are unique to the individual system that they are in. Some people put on the brakes whenever they hear about an alter that looks different than your average, everyday human. But this is extremely common among systems. Alters form to cope with the situation at hand, and every situation is unique.

it infuriates us to no end when people say that a system is faking because their alters are “weird” (this goes for introjects as well sometimes), when an alter splits the brain isn’t thinking “lemme make this as socially acceptable and comfortable for singlets as possible”, it’s thinking “i need to survive what i’m going through.”

@Funny Username yea, we hardly knew anyone before our abuse so it's only natural our system is almost entirely introjects of people, characters, and things. We didn't have a frame of reference outside of what we knew. Some people are just going to be jerks on the internet.

We have one alter we just refer to as "Eyes" who is a pitch black figure just...covered in eyes. Despite their scary first appearance they're actually a bean.
Since you mentioned Coraline, Hollow could paint the door like inside the crawlspace to the other world in blue and purple whorls.
@Circus System we have an alter sort of like Eyes. he's called "No One In Particular" but his nickname is Pip. he has pitch black skin and the eyes covering him look like a cross between human eyes and googley eyes. he doesn't like to speak much but he's really sweet
We also have an alter named Eyes! She’s a gatekeeper and can take out her eyes so she can’t see anything and put them back on whenever she’d like.
My animal alter is a cat, im terrified to share this in real life because people think automatically that i am a furry, nothing wrong with that, but it is literally so different lmao. I know she formed when i was maybe 2 or 3. It took a long time for me to accept her and encourage her to express herself due to denial and masking. She is very affectionate and fronts only when i am with my partner or my kitty. It is a nonverbal alter as well, she just makes noises. It is usually while i am sleepy and need a nap.

Yesterday I was barking uncontrollably to myself.
I'm starting to question a lot about myself and I'm making myself learn about alters, it's something I've always thought the person would have to be aware of but I'm starting to realize I know nothing about systems. I've had someone I'd call a co-soul with me from a young age but there's aspects I think I suppress or interact with in my head only.
We have a system of 167 (it’s still growing by the way), and 41 of the alters in our system are nonhuman (not counting fictive alters). So, that means 24.55% of our system is nonhuman. Wow, our host’s mind.

we have around 60-70 active alters and out of all of them , 7 are human , counting with human fictives ! which is quite funny , as for each human alter there are almost 10 nonhuman ones , and if we count the ones that aren’t active / are dormant , it would be way more . . .
We're primarily nonhuman in this system, with maybe six or seven pure humans out of roughly forty headmates? A couple shapeshifters, three robots, two demons of the mirror and ribbon variety (i have no idea what those two mean by that but *shrug*), someone literally made of paper, an alien woman and her son, some shadows given solid form, a creature made of ink (he works as a counsellor despite having possessed some dudes), aaand some assorted beings that don't have species names? Like Flood and Ri? Oh, and an anthropromorhic goat. He's the reason my kidneys in headspace are sliced in half.
I'm dying at the last sentence! Why do you have kidneys in your headspace? (If you feel comfortable answering). We're also mostly Nonhuman. We have like a few human littles and a couple of our managerial staff. Also, eagle and bessy's subsystem is mostly human. The other 80-90 of us are nonhuman though.
Dont know why but i feel it is also validating to know that there are many polyfragmented ra systems with strong hierarchical structures whose alters are like that because they were intentionally convinced that they are what they are. As u said, a kid on drugs can be with costumes and mirrors easily made to believe they are someone or something specific. So when it was important for those alters to be created in order to survive. And every alter has their purpose. I cant explain that more detailled because that would include examples and i dont want to trigger anyone.
But even the scary alters maybe just convinced that they are beyond help and evil which they are not. Or that they have to be like that until one day the system communication and healing with therapy may allows them to discover other parts of themselves and calm down.

I always feel the need to apologize for rarely commenting, so there’s that...... and I just wanted to say I loved exactly your explanation of the “non-typical” or non-“human” alters. It was really brilliant and easy to understand, at least for us it was. T hanks for making videos. We are having a super hard time the past yr+ and there’s still so far to go it seems and it helps to know you are not truly alone.🦋 xo thinking of you both and all.
I don't want to go assuming things, but I feel like especially the Aether System but also Acrylic Chasers System are able to have more communication and meeting new(old) alters the past year. Maybe because their life is finally stable as of living situation? This makes me very happy. I'm a singlet working on her depression. Seeing others with mental health issues and a disorder like did grow and bloom is so beautiful. Thank you, all of you ❤

Literally every known member of our system is nonhuman to some degree. Most of us are feline, but we also have a faerie. We related to cats so much more as a child, and still do. They felt safe when humans don't, and it doesn't help we're autistic and find cats easier to communicate with.
We have the same with nonhuman alters, we have mostly alters with powers or that can shift into animals we also have witches and fairies :)

We have a lot of parts with wings. I still haven't seen any systems with bird people adjacent parts. I'm pretty sure most of us are non human to some extent. Hugs for everyone who reads this! You're all valid.
You are valid. I am so glad you made this video. Us “off-putting” alters exist for a reason and should not be made fun of. Many of us often hold the most gruesome abuse and never deserve scrutiny. Thank you. ~Eyes
Yes, 100%. A lot of our littles tried to scare eachother to keep one of them from sharing trauma. Now that we've helped everyone feel safer they've stopped intentionally scaring us all the time. Progress!
Also, a lot of "scary parts" aren't scary at all and they need love and support too!
Shout out to every alter ever y'all are all unique in your own way!! I'm working on being able to access my inner world more often because I'm pretty sure theirs more alters I need to discover and learn about.

We have a cat (introject of our own!) and several nonhuman and partially nonhuman alters, myself included. I'm a demon-vampire thing. Our communication is very bad and amnesiac barriers are very large between many alters, so some people just appear as "emotion blobs." They are kind of like viscous clouds that attach to you to talk, but they can only give off vague messages and often end up pushing their emotions onto the people they are talking to
I'm not sure if we have any object alters, but I know a few other systems that do. It seems having charger alters is relatively common
so happy to see this- our system is very nonhuman heavy !!

just want to say that we can seriously relate to a lot of what you guys are saying here. drugs were also involved for us and there were many experiences that caused us to split headmates other than human. Alice, who is a fictive from Alice in Wonderland and also a doll (this is related to our perception of the movie in comparison to our perception of the world on drugs.) L, who is human but was taken from an image of a character we had seen the same day and now holds even more severe drug related trauma. and the worst part is we were 6. we really appreciate you guys talking about this - it helps us to validate our experiences as we come closer and closer to diagnosis. hope you guys are doing ok!

might be a weird question, but i would love a video where the non-human alters front. so curious to see how they would move around in a human body?
They are pretty normal when fronting for the most part. Many of Aether's have been in videos. You just need to pay attention to the intro to know who they are in the inner world. But I don't have any non-human alters that I am aware of.
for our own experience , it depends a bit , three particular alters of ours act very weirdly when fronting ( one is a little and can’t speak , only makes funky noises , the other is a dog who has no clue on what he’s doing ( but he is a good boy ) and the third one is a chaotic mess but does overall a decent job when fronting ) but the other ones can pretty much mask a human singlet , even better than most of our human alters . . . probably because they’re humanoid as well
wow thank y'all for sharing, we have a lot of nonhuman alters and several of them have apparently got human forms bc they're nervous or nebulous or something... not 100% sure yet. but it was really nice to hear about y'all.
I have 2 robot alters and a lot of half Human ones, and one thats sometimes an animal and sometimes behaves more like a therian.
Im fairly certain they developed like that because i felt a lot like a robot, i was treated a lot like a dog. And surprise surprise, pretty much every animal in our system is a dog or dog related (like a Wolf).

Thank you so much for this video. It helped me "discover" a new alter of ours. I knew some alters were non human (cats, tigers, 5 legged doglike creatures, cat like alters that look just like inuyasha from the anime with the same name, a hawk, and the video game character called yoshi) hearing about your train alter actually gave my large ship (think pirates of the Caribbean) the courage to "speak" up and she himself to me. The ship always stood out in my inner world in a picture i have (pictures and picture frames are an integral part of my system like blues clues) but until this video i never knew that the ship was an alter. Thank you so much for this information. 😊

Omfg i was just about to get up and do a chore and then heard fenrir and sat my ass back down again WE have a fenrir too, only hes a huge WHITE wolf not a dark one! he can turn into a person too but usually is a dog and hes our primary protector/caretaker
One of my alters is a dog, hes such a sweetheart and has been around for my whole life. It sucks that he has to hide who he is, and im searching for ways that will help him feel more comfortable day to day as we are away from the person who makes him most comfortable right now and hes not coping well with pretending to be human and being unable to express.
But he is a dog, he used to not be able to speak at all but now he can but he has an odd voice
We do have another dog, but hes completely non verbal and fronts less
I'm not a system (I don't think), but I'm friends with a system who has a lot of non human alters, and I'm glad that you're bringing awareness to this. Someone accused them of faking because there are non human alters in the system, and it pissed me off that he would accuse my friends like that.
If you don’t mind my asking, how old is the body (aether’s)? I’m just curious. I know the alters are all different ages.

Possible tw for wolves
We have a couple nonhumans... mostly typical humanoid creatures like vampyres and elves, but we also have a giant wolf and an altar made out of smoke and ancient text floating in the shape of a human. We have a rather big system and I, as the host, don't get a lot of time in the headspace so I don't really know very much about the vast majority of our alters. But it's always seemed normal to us like "Giant wolf running around at night? Yep. that checks out."

In our case everyone in the system is nonhuman and some of our friends don't believe us when we show them our best drawings of ourselves and how we look. for example I'm a dragon (me Tyree), Narvarax is a vampire, and SØlitary is an alien from Tyree, Narvarax, and SØlitary

We have an alter in our system that is called White Ghost and she is kind of based on the grudge. She is awesome and really sweet. ^^

I have 2 (potentially 3) unusual alters - a floating brain (named Brain) and an acoustic guitar that can only communicate via guitar plucks n screaming
If I have more alters than originally thought, then I’ll include the black void that also screams

We have a cat, multiple robots (one of which has a TV head that ve can rip open like a mouth), sea monsters, and a seraphim angel just to name a few. It's interesting in the system
For us, We have me (Moon) who is a demon. I look human but I am a demon with burn marks (like Dabi from mha) and a wound thro my heart. We have E (A little, we never put there actual names if it is a little) who is an enderman from minecraft. We have D (A little) who is a piglin that only speaks in Roar. We have my brother (Carson) who is a demon as well. And we have quiet a few fictives. We have K (a little) who is a ghost alter but is the sweetest little kid. Then finally we have T (a little) and we don't know what he is but we do know that he isn't human.
Always multi fronting gives me multiple ppl in a trenchcoat comparisons, some may get a kick out of the 3 coats in a kid skit over at characterswelcome❤😅

i am still very new to this. i experienced somethings very awful young so i developed an alter. she fronts & presents as human but mentally she thinks she is an inanimate object. she is young it’s hard to talk about because i can’t tell her much. she doesn’t trust me that well (host) she won’t talk & be fully fronting barely at all but she was fully fronting almost for weeks & months on end it felt like a several years ago. she sees herself sometimes as a very small doll.
Thank you so much for sharing this it made me feel a lot better about being non human even though that seems weird I am really happy to see that other systems have so many non human alters we have about 43 alters and I think at least 17 or us are non human the “weirdest” one being a Little that is more or less a flower fairy and can teleport all around the inner world- Luna

I’m starting to get it.
It soothes me to visualize lying under a massive, wise old oak tree. We all need our own unique comfort zones once in a while.
Imagine a child desperately needing them 24/7 … for years … in order to survive.
If that child finds the concept of a big brother or wolf or tree or train or rock helps them cope, the mind will do its best to manifest as a reality.
Literally, whatever works to survive.
I saw somewhere else someone explained the rock and it made total sense to me. Like a need to be camouflaged, still, motionless, unseen and unseeing. That's what understood anyhow.
The shirt is very cool. Looking through the comments there are a lot of us who are autistic. I have often wondered if autistic people are more likely to become multiple and if anyone has ever studied a connection.
I had an alter named Thomas and he was a therapist for me. He is human though.

I think it would be really good to see ghost train if he would be okay with being on the channel because it would be educational to see how an inanimate alter moves around in the body and stuff like that!

We have a couple of nonhumans in our system. In my case I'm a vampire. The reason seems to be so that I don't react to little injuries that could slow us down if we actually need to fight or run. ~Andy from the Hydra System
