    I got this game as a Christmas present back when I was 8. It was interesting, but I didn't understand how to play fully(casting magic escaped me, so I could never make it past the first boss), and it had to compete with the second Ninja Turtles game for attention. Then one day I got sick at school and had to stay out for a week. During that time I picked up Faxanadu again, and just so happened to figure out how to cast magic...the rest of that week is just a joyful blur of beating this game. And I must have gone through it a dozen times till my nes finally gave out. Notpads full of Mantras, and a childhood full of great memories.
    This music in engraved in my conscious. Thanks Falcom and Hudson!

      I think i was also 8 at the time. Also got it for christmas. I'm not a native English speaker, and did not learn English for a couple more years from school. Casting magic and shit was OK, I got that alright, but taking elixirs to the three fountains and using wingboots? Way over my head.

    There is something magical about 8-bit music, and this is one of the best soundtracks on any NES game! Great memories of playing this with my dad back in the day. Still dust it off and beat it every so often. I love the Dartmoor and the Mist themes the best; they used to creep me out!

The music was eery and unnerving, making me glance over my shoulder at shadows moving on the walls. We played all night and emerged from the mist just as the sun was starting to come up outside. Freaking epic!

    I don't think there is a single bad track in this OST. The 'Mantra', 'Elven King', and 'Guru' themes, in particular, are some of the most atmospheric tracks I've heard - from the NES, no less!

There were (limited) elements of exploration and misdirection therein involved in moving through the world tree. It was interesting. +Michel Newcomb I am literally in process of learning overworld on my keyboard!! A tune that never has left my head since I was a child. NES had some of the greatest and catchiest melodies ever!!

      I've heard Overworld theme in a flash game years ago - glad to have found the full OST here.

      Absolutely. When I borrowed a synth from my roommate in 2001, a lot of songs I played were NES songs - including Faxanadu overworld.

    It's called Faxanadu because of the original name of the NES being Famicom. So the game is Famicom Xanadu.

    • @ImaginalComponent
      @ImaginalComponent 4 роки тому

      yet there's also a game called Xanadu for the Famicom.

    • @Wyrmnacht
      @Wyrmnacht 4 роки тому

      @@ImaginalComponent that's correct and actually that game is part of the Dragon Slayer franchise and is called Xanadu: Dragon Slayer 2. Faxanadu is a spin off or side story that isn't related but equally fun.

    The thing about Faxanadu's graphics is that the limited palette was intended to give the game more of a grimdark feel. I think they might not be as detailed as some other games, but they suit the game's atmosphere much better than something in the style of Zelda 2 would.

    Cult Action-Adventure! I've always had problems to control the protagonist. Overall it wasn't the easiest NES game.
