    Great food. Are those also available in Bangkok too? Where or what kind of restaurants to look at to find such dishes like pad yod on? Is there any tip you can give us on how to find interesting dishes?

    • @MarkWiens
      @MarkWiens  10 років тому +1

      Hi protdeaf, yes, there are many similar restaurants like this in Bangkok, sort of Chinese Thai style, and many of them will serve "khao tom" which is rice porridge along with the dishes too. As for dishes, they will normally have a menu, or alternatively, often many restaurants like this will have all the ingredients of what is available - all meats, seafood, vegetables - all laid out and you can actually just go up and choose what you want to eat, and they will stir fry it up.

    • @protdeaf

    I'm craving steam egg now. Like you, I associate this dish with my Popo. (I've got a feeling that you might be of Teochew chinese descent).
    The one you ate 'looks' a little dry.
    I do like the Hong Kong version where they drizzle a little soy sauce, sesame oil and a light pinch of white pepper on top.

    • @MarkWiens
      @MarkWiens  10 років тому

      Great to hear that leenee loo, my Popo is from the countryside near Guangzhou, but yah, this version was a little different than what I usually ate growing up - this was more beat up I think - whereas the one I grew up eating was a little more silky smooth - both delicious. Does this version look Teochew?
