- Programming a keyless remote transmitter on a Toyota / Lexus vehicle with factory installed keyless entry and alarm.
This procedure should work on Toyota's made in the late 90's to the early 2000's, such as the Toyota Solara, Camry, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Sienna, Highlander and Avalon.
This procedure will not work on vehicles with a dealer installed remote, i.e. with a service button / LED on the driver side of the dash-board, such as those with the RS3000 / RS3200 system.
Programming the remote involves cycling the locks and ignition. If the vehicle does not enter programming mode or the locks fail to cycle, it could be a worn lock actuator. Try cycling the locks manually instead of using the power lock button switch on the door.

1. Open driver’s door
2. Insert key & remove it
3. Cycle locks 5 times
4. Close & open driver’s door
5. Cycle locks 5 times
6. Insert key, turn to ON position, back to OFF, turn to ON, back to OFF (Locks cycle)
7. Press lock & unlock at the same time & release
8. Press lock & release (Locks cycle)
9. Close driver’s door to exit programming mode

I washed my key less remote and I guess it erased the programming, I changed the battery and followed your programming instructions and worked! Had my Tundra remote for 17yrs and still works. Big Mahalo!

@@speedkar99 local Toyota dealer told me it would cost $98.00 to program a remote! The remote price for retail sale was $111.00!! Toyota great dealers suck!

Possibly keyless-entry module issues.
Worked perfectly. I just want to add something, my drivers door actuator worked but was worn, so as I did the steps I pressed the electric button, and pushed the lock itself too to "help it out" and it worked I finally got it to program after having a new fob for a year.

@@speedkar99 Also I have a 99 es300 and I noticed the trimming around your Gage cluster has a small ring of wood around it. That trim may fit my Lexus, if you don't mind would you tell me the year make and model of the Toyota you have in the vid. I'm going to ck out some salvage yards to see if I can get that piece and put it on my car. The interior of yr car looks awesome

Doesn't work on my 2000 Camry LE. Not sure why. I have the alarm panel next to the mirror control. I think mine maybe a dealer installed Toyota Alarm and it maybe different?

Fantastic. Worked beautifully first time on my 2004 Avensis for both my keys! Many thanks!(My only minor comment is: don't give up if the door doesn't lock/unlock automatically before you have to press the lock and open buttons simultaneously. It will still work at the end of the procedure)

Yes, (black) master key for programming.
Worked the first time on my 2000 Sienna! Otherwise I'd have been stuck, since changing the battery after long disuse didn't work, it needed to be re-programmed. Thanks!!

Thank you. Other instructional videos show same thing but after 2nd time cycling the lock and unlock they show putting the key into ignition and turning to on and off the pulling key. It doesn't work unless you turn key twice.
At least that's the case for my 2001 Toyota Avalon.

To be clear these alternate steps below DO NOT work for my 02 Avalon
1. Begin with the key out of the ignition.
2. OPEN and UNLOCK the DRIVER'S side door. CLOSE all other doors including the trunk.
3. Within 5 seconds INSERT the key into the ignition and PULL it out TWICE.
4. CLOSE then OPEN the DRIVER's side door TWICE.
5. Insert key INTO the ignition then REMOVE it.
6. CLOSE then OPEN the DRIVER's side door TWICE.
7. Insert the key INTO the ignition and LEAVE it in ignition.
8. CLOSE the DRIVER's side door.
9. Switch the ignition to ON then OFF.
10. REMOVE the key from ignition

I have a 1999 Toyota Avalon but when I insert the keys into the ignition I do not get a beep and can't program the key fob. Key fob was working fine and key use to beep in igntion but now it is not. Maybe a blown fuse?

Hey Sudhir where did you get your key fobs? I am looking for replacement fobs for an 04 Sequoia SR5
I've tried multiple video's on UA-cam. None of them work. This video didn't work either. What could be the issue I'm having? I followed all the video's step by step. But when I finish completing the steps, the locks don't move at all. They all work but they don't ever indicate that I'm in programming mode after the steps are completed. Do you have any idea what it could be?

I have a 2005 Scion xB with 2 keys, but only 1 remote. If I buy another remote, do I use the programming for Toyota Keyless Remote (video above), and do I program my old remote at the same tim as the new one? Thanks.
Didn't work for my 2005 Scion XA, sadly. One works great, the other just flashes a bunch when you put a new battery in. Any ideas as to how I can get it working again?

I have a Matrix 2009 I changed the battery on the original remote but now it doesn’t lock or unlock doors. I followed the steps and at the end of the process it locks and unlocks with doors closed but once I open the door it doesn’t do anything. Can you help?

Wish this vid was out years earlier. I got tired of my Avalon remote and tried to program it with a aftermarket remote but to no success. I went and got a Viper system instead.

Didn't work on my 2003 Tundra. Had to use 2002 to 2009 Tacoma & Tundra Factory Remote Transmitter Programming How To
Copy instructions below video and paste them into text document and print them out.
My non OEM fob came with a tip to press both lock and unlock together twice instead of once and it worked fine.
this worked for my 2005 toyota tundra but at the end in unlocks 2 times and won't let me use my clicker. help please

2000-01 Camry should be the same procedure as long as you have the factory alarm and not the dealer installed alarm. Follow the procedure to see if the car goes into programming mode.

+speedkar99 Hello, so i just lost my keys, all of them. Can I still get a new key reprogram it? A Toyota dealer says 65 bucks for new keys and 120 for reprogramming. Plus the towing and taxes. They say they might need some equipment they have there, and might not be able to come to my place to have it reprogrammed.
Toyota needs to use Techstream and TIS to reprogram your ECU. TIS online will generate a code which will store in a national database as a log that this vehicle's key's were once reset. That code will be entered into the techstream software to put it into auto programming mode allowing it to accept new keys. $65 for new key and $120 for programming is very reasonable in my opinion, however, I am assuming they're cutting keys from the VIN. Otherwise you'll need a locksmith to re-key the ignition cylinder and key door locks.

old post, hope I get an answer. I have a 1996 Toyota Camry v6, will this work, I ask prior to remote purchase. I don't see any security light. but this car is leather and sunroof and I have seen others with remote.

I have an '03 Camry that came with 2 key fobs which include a trunk open button. The one you showed did not and you obviously have an older model Camry

Any idea what might cause a 1999 Toyota Solara to not respond to the lock button on the remote? I also can't add new remotes to the car, even though the car enters programming mode. Power locks in the car work, and I can unlock using the remote.

Excellent video, it cycle my Toyota Tundra, but my remote from Amazon didn’t respond. Should I buy another remote again it came with new batteries in it. There direction which says open door then put key in twice didn’t work for me. Please help thanks
Is there a limit to the total number of keyless entry remotes that any given vehicle will recognize? I have a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, and it appears that after I program a fourth KER, the first in the series will no longer work. That suggests that 3 is the limit (for that vehicle). I can't find any specific reference that says there is a limit, but there seems to be one.

I have the 1999 Tyota Avalon XL. It has the security indication on the left side of the steering wheel with the red light. Does this mean i can program a keyless entry to the car.
+E Wright That's for the engine immobilizer. You'll need to put the car in programming mode, if the locks cycle, then yes, it can accept a remote.
Can I program a new remote, the same way, on a 2003 corolla even if I don't have the original key with the chip?
If we're adding new remotes to the car do we also have to reprogram the original remote or is that one still in the system?

I have a 1996 avalon and this procedure did not work. I bought a fob on Amazon that said it would work on my car. I followed your way a couple of times and didn't work. I have tried the failure light box in the back of the trunk giving ground to the programming connector and that did not work either. Any ideas on what's happening?

You might need a dealer or locksmith to help you out as I think the programming procedure requires some equipment.
