I own a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. 4 years ago my keyless remote stopped working. I replaced the battery and still did not work. I phone the dealer, Williams lake bc Canada and was told..$260 for the replacement, labor was $220 and reprogram was also $220...a $700 bill. Of course, I said I can live without it. This morning,I watched this video and tried what was said. It Worked!!! . I am going to call back that dealer and ..... well I will keep what I will tell them to myself. Thank you for making my day.
I rewrote the instructions for my advantage, got myself two remotes from the suggested site, and in less than five minutes had two more operational key fobs. I have a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off road with all of the bells and whistles.....It works! One happy camper thanks you! Keys are next, thank you for that video as well.
Great video, real time solution that worked for my 2009 Tacoma that has 109k miles. The fob quit working suddenly, I went to my local Florida dealer who told me the cost would be $99 For a diagnosis-which would NOT apply to any repair or parts-plus perhaps $200 for the actual repair or reprogramming! Or he would sell me a new key-also for $300! I nearly choked at such unmitigated avarice. THANK YOU, Tomahawk DIY!
Thank you Mike, I bought my 2007 Sienna with one remote not programmed, dealer asked for over $100. I kept the one for 10 years until I followed your video today. In 2 minutes I have programmed the keyless remote. Valuable video!
THANK YOU!!!! i just put new batteries in. nothing. called dealership who said i had to bring it in and probably get new fob. saw this...went out tried it..and fob works great! YOU ROCK!! thank you!!

Your instructions worked like a charm! I'd tried to follow several other and nothing. I followed along with your instructions, Bam! Remote programed! Thank you!
This helped soooo much! Thank you for posting this! I tried it just like you did and now my fob works again! This was awesome and saved me a tooon of money if I took it to a dealership. $6 for a new battery and this tutorial just made my wallet happy.

Worked perfectly for a Toyota 2007 4runner! For the key cutting I'd recommended going to a good locksmith and avoid big box stores like homedepot or ace who sometimes don't cut blanks that aren't their own. I got a blank first to test the fidelity of cutting first, then got my transponder key cut after programming it. Total cost was about $20 and a few hours of my time.

I've not seen that before where lock/unlock work but the other buttons don't, unless there is a problem with the power assist to the doors. I presume the side and rear door y open with power assist when you push the buttons built in near the driver seat to open them?

Good Vid! I watched a couple of these vids and this also worked for my Toyota Avalon 2007. I give 5-Stars to Toms Key, but not for getting some new FOBs programmed - Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me! The 5-Star rating is for their service! A few weeks ago I purchased 2 new FOBs and rented the programmer for my 2008 Toyota Highlander. (I recall when I bought the car new that even the dealer had issues with programming the FOBs using their computer). I had a few questions about programming the FOBs and William, from Toms Key, addressed my concerns. I made several attempts at programming and had a few back and forth e-mails with William. William reminded me on at least two occasions that they back up their products with a 100% refund guarantee. I finally conceded that this was not going to work for me. I packed up the FOBs and programmer and sent them back. A couple days later William sent me an e-mail saying that my refund was being processed. This is the kind of service that makes a company successful! Even though it didn’t work for me, I’d go back to them first for another car.

Nice explanation. Is there same method for 2011 Rav4? I already have one key. In case of failure to setup program in new key; will this impact to existing working remote key? Thanks

Thanks for the instructions. Do you know how many remotes can be programmed to the vehicle? Also, if one is already programmed to the vehicle, do you have to go through the programming steps with that one again, when programming the additional new one(s)?
+Philip Wolcott not sure on the maximum number of remotes. As I recall, I only needed to program my new remotes. Did not erase the old ones. Hope that helped!! worked famously for 2006 Sienna. Received 2 fobs for $15 from Amazon, so this saved around $150 from what the dealer cost would have been for just one. PS - the van has a chipped key.
I purchase a 2009 Tacoma few days ago and I went through this process to program a new remote and it didn't work. I noticed there was a blue blinking light near the bottom left panel where hood release latch was. It occurred to me that the previous owner must've installed a after market car alarm. Having said this, would this interfere with programming the new remote? Thanks.
Need a key or fob? I started tomskey.com so you can save money. Come find your vehicle - even newer ones!!!
