Unfortunately not every Cat is actually a 'Mouser'. For that you need to 'deliberately' SHOP for one just like you shop for 'Livestock' animals: Dogs, Geese & Donkeys.

Hi, I just discovered you today. Reminds me of my great grandma Hulda, 1/2 of her basement was a giant pantry, she was always making something. Others made fun of her saying we could live for 3 yrs on her pantry food. She would remind them that during the depression yrs she always had food because she always prepared for a rainy day & she never stopped doing it. She lived to be 95. We were so lucky to grow up eating food without chemicals & additives. So much more healthier. I try to do the same thing in each season but on a much smaller scale in my 1/4 acre backyard. My house in Tx was built in 1986. We don't have a basement so I use my linen closet & front hall closet as pantries. My husband & grown sons tell people that I'm like a squirrel storing food, but when covid hit. & stores ran out of food, we had plenty. Thankyou great grandma Hulda for teaching me well. So happy to see young people like yourselves trying to live healthy. It's a lot of hard work but it keeps you out of trouble & saves a lot of money. God Bless you both

We do 1200+ jars per year, plus 1000 bags of freeze dried food (we also have freeze dried pet food for 2000 meals each for 4 dogs) that we did with our freeze drier. We also have food grade 5 gallon buckets filled with grains, rice, raw honey, sugar, oats, flour, pasta, barley. We also have sweet potatoes, russet potatoes, pumpkins, butternut squash, acorn squash and blue Hubbard squash. We have increased the garden size for next grow season, which will increase our quart jars and our freeze dried mylar bags.

If I had that pantry, I would have a nice comfy chair, a glass of wine and some soothing music playing. I would just sit back and enjoy the view and reflect on the past summer, and dream about the delicious meals coming soon. ❤

After following the year through your content, what I can only imagine to be the thousands of hours, spent by you and your family producing that bounty, and the emotional roller coaster that gardening and family life always is. Words are lacking in their ability to describe what an accomplishment those pantries are. Your “Pantry Tour” video was just the perfect counterpoint.

Seeing the Apple Butter reminds me of a traditional Appalachian cake-Apple Stack Cake. It’s very thin layers of cake with rehydrated apple with cinnamon between the layers and finished by covering the entire cake with a creamy apple butter. Let sit for 24 hours in the fridge to moisten and mingle the flavors. A beautiful and tasty cake from the mountains.

The amount of work you put into making all the food and then making this video is astounding. Well done, well done.
🌻 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

NICE JOB WELL DONE!... WE ADD VINGAR TO SALMON.... Since fish contain sufficient moisture levels that will be extracted during the canning process, no additional water is required. Simply add five ml (one tsp) of non-iodized salt in each 500 ml (one pint) jar, along with 10 ml of vinegar and/or lemon juice. If desired, you can add your own favourite fish seasonings.

    • @cherylegrognet7715

Thanks Dan and Chelsea I really enjoyed that ìt just shows how much you're family work so hard. I keep saying family because you said you all get stuck in but you would rather not let your children be on the camera which I can appreciate up to them if they decide that is their choice. What a brilliant job Dan done of the pantry I knew it would be good but it was better than even I expected as I've said you two make such a great couple. I dread to think how much that took you all plus giving the kitchen a smarter look. I can just imagine the family will be looking forward to a break in the holidays? We don't celebrate thanksgiving but I hope you make the most of yours tell Dan to have a break I'm really excited to seeing the bunkie house ɓut I would rather see a Dan rested and you so please enjoy yourselves and have a good holiday you all deserve it? I always wondered how big families got any value from the meals in a jar. There are only 2 of us, and we'd definitely eat a whole quart of chili or soup, etc. Also canned soup doesn't taste as good, and I appreciate you pointing that out. I'm always wondering if I'm the odd one here. I'd rather eat something made fresh. Your pantry and root cellar are just gorgeous.

you can make a 5 gallon bucket with a rod and a piece of conduit on it so it spins. It is the BEST bulk mouse trap. Put a little water in the bottom of bucket. I put a scrap board as a ramp and peanut butter on the conduit. Seems like a lot of work, but it continually catches mice instead of 1 and done like a trap. I have them in my shed and catch 2 and 3 at a time. I think it would do wonders in your cellar

When we were raising hogs, we use to have a awful problem with field rats and mice. We put small containers of coke cola around our feed. The rodents would drink the soda then would go back to their den. Drinking the cola would start to swell up in their stomachs. Once that happened the swelling would put pressure on lungs and their heart. Thus, they died due to the swelling.

This is how I grew up canning all summer and at this time the shelves were full. As a young girl we worked hard and helped with many task preparing for the long cold winter. I have a smaller pantry now as the kids are grown and it’s just the two of us. Stay warm and enjoy the bounty this winter!

Add water chestnuts to egg foo yung along with your sprouts. Yum, & adds a really good crunch & texture.

Very nice!! Good job you both! A good tip will be to put all your flours in buckets instead of leaving them in the bulk paper bags specially if you have some problems with rodents.

What a beautiful food storage. We are just a family of 4 and some times 7. I would love that kind of larder. How wonderful. I have just a small wall of canned things.

A 5 gallon bucket trap would be excellent. You fill the bottom with water and a can on a wire above it. Put peanutbutter on the can. When the mouse tries to get the peanutbutter it slips and falls in the water. You can catch several in one night.

WOW! WOW! WOW! Chelsea you should feel incredibly proud of all you have accomplished with your various food storage! Absolutely incredible all the work and thought that has gone in to its development! I can on a very micro scale in comparison but know what a feeling it is to know that no matter how crazy our world gets I have a decent supply of food for my family. Your organization is something most of us only dream of! It’s clear to see both you and Dan have been working to create a food storage environment that is functional and accessible. It’s also easy to see the knowledge you have about the quantities you require for your family’s size. Seriously I was blown away by your amazing pantry it’s as beautiful as it is edible! It’s easy to see from the smile on your face that this pantry creates a sense of security and relief knowing it’s there for the next year. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this with us again this year and congratulations on your incredibly ambitious food storage accomplishment! Bravo 👏🏻 deserves a standing ovation! I hope your family knows how incredibly blessed they are to have a mother and father who cares for their well-being and that they consume the most nutritious and highest quality of ingredients so that their bodies can thrive. God bless you and your entire family! 🥰❤️🙏🏻🍁🇨🇦

Mincemeat suggestion: Add a couple of finely diced apples, mix with mincemeat and put into turn-over pastry! The apple help dilute the flavour and add a really delicious sweetness to it! Also, make a carrot cake recipe, exclude the spices and sweeteners, use the mincemeat instead - really yummy!!

Thank you for this - very cool. You work so hard and are so organized. Suggestion: have you thought about reusable canning lids? I got some Tatler lids and I love them. I like the idea that I don't have to worry about not finding lids in the store. You go through so many jars it might save you $ in the long run. (Though I still haven't been brave enough to use them on meat and fish!)
