The Sun Has Returned to Our Cabin | Starting Seeds for This Year's Garden
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 бер 2024
- Winter's end is finally in sight! The landscape will soon transform from a winter wonderland to a green paradise. The chickens made it just fine through the coldest months largely due to their heated coop and a project on our agenda is starting seeds for the future garden. We reorganize the cabin, set up a seed rack complete with lights, pick up our Azure order and cook up moose sloppy joes and mac n cheese.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

“At this point in my life, i don’t have enough rhubarb.”
Ariel you made me smile with that one. Quote of the video :)
Ditto! I laughed out loud!
We had rhubarb growing up as kids. I don't have any now but I'm going to get some oh yes I am after watching my Alaska friends I'm getting me some rhubarb
First time I hear Eric with a voice over as a narrator. And he sounds so good slowing down just a bit his rate of speech. Good job, Eric.
After watching All the terrible things that are going on in the world It gives me so much happiness to come and watch your videos. It gives me 1⁄2 an hour where I can just enjoy What is good in this world God bless you both
That's why I watch no TV or news. I truthfully have no idea what's going on in the world. Knowing just makes me worry & stressed.
Ariel doesn’t get enough credit for her bread making abilities. The moose meat on those fluffy buns looked so good!
She makes the best buns/bread ❤
And she makes it all look so easy. She’s an absolute natural at it all and that’s why, I think, she doesn’t get the credit!
She is a baking genie!!
It’s really nice to hear Eric doing a voice over in the beginning of today’s video. As always, your photography/videograghy is AMAZING! I love when you upload.
I really liked the voiceover too!
Third that point!
Professional video quality. Thank you very much Eric!
Me four
I agree with that.
Hope all goes for a check up for cancer screenings early when the signes show it is to late... The garden is gong great I expanded into the front yard and have people whom are fans doing work in their front and back yards to get healthier and exercise in their gardens. Yes we both did in our teens the soul saving through church but we follow nature and medicines so if it wants to take back life it will or give life it will. Love watching these two people hope you all do too.
Prayers for your hubby and your family
I hope and pray your dear Husband has accepted the lord Jesus as his king and lord and he will go into the next life with his Heavenly Father forevermore
Amen@@MarleneSpinella-ye8ym
Wow, that really stinks. I am sorry you two have to go through this
Many people who got the💉now have cancer! So sad!
You two are great caretakers. Of each other, animals, property, gardens, food prep etc. It’s such a privilege to share in your life. Love the Azure haul. Take care.🎉
You are 💯 right!!😊😊😊
I'm totally at your side to appreciate Ariel and Eric. I will just add that these videos are most beautiful and better than National Geographic, for me, when we saw the Caribou hunting. So much time to hunt and finally have a great end. 😊😇 (Sorry for my english, I'm from Belgium and not bad in english but not really bilingual 🤔)
You should flip the bed over and have a loft bed with desk underneath 😊
Her bread is undeniably the best homemade bread I’ve ever seen.
I was thinking the same! Would love the recipe.
@@islandgrl7346a long with her pastry,piecrusts!!
I totally agree ❤
I agree too!! Ariel, would you share the recipe with is please?
I actually really liked Eric’s voiceover at the beginning. Set a whole mood. Very relaxing.
Arielle, put the ginger root in a deeper bucket like you would a sweet potato. It will multiply roots amazingly. And it is FINE to cut back the green stem part.
I think she should also put it it a wider bucket thingie cause mine spread a lot. But I’m in zone 8b so there’s that lol
Tip for the wellness check on the chickens. Put some blue tape (tuck tape works well) over the light. Chickens can't see the blue light the same, so they stay very calm, but it doesn't dim the light too much so you can still see what you need to see.
What r they looking for
If you haven't already thought of it you might consider framing in your porch to make more room
I’ve often wondered why they haven’t done this already - could also be a space for outdoor wear and boots.
I was going to suggest making it a mudroom type space too!
Hey guys! Hope all is well and everyone is coping with the loss of the pup ❤️ it's so hard..
You could use rolling boxes under the bed. Use your hooked rods to pull out the boxes far underneath, or tie ropes to each.
That’s what I thought ❤
Agree!!!
Or use some boards on coasters, then you can reach everything and pull out easily
I love watching seeds sprout. There's just something exciting about seeing them pop thru the ground. Looks like you'll have a nice garden this summer and I know all us viewers will enjoy your gardening videos. Getting the manure frozen is probably the best way to handle it, rather than when it's soft and "fragrant". Those buns you baked looked so good. I could almost smell them. Always enjoy the cooking portion. Your videos are the best! See you on the next one!
Maybe put some sheets of wood over top the bed frame to make additional storage. Love to see spring coming and what will be your❤❤😊 garden.
Or build storage unit and move mattress above that. Can use small ladder to get up to mattress
What about putting stuff on wheels to make it easier to move in and out under the bed. And around the room, for that matter!?
Could just make lumber with that sawmill. I’m sure they will do something to that effect.
You could put hooks and things on your ceiling in the house to hang things.
Yes, I was wondering about lowering the height of the bed frame and creatin storage above
Ginger growing tips: best done in a shallow container, well draining mix and use a tomato cage to keep the crazy huge canes under control. Cutting off the whole canes retards the plant's ability to make and store the energy, ie less ginger production.
Much love from the Midwest US 💖
Shallow and wide, I think. The rhizomes spread sideways?
Yes, a wider shallow pot.
@@jeangraze8031 ABSOLUTELY! Thank you for adding that here. As an extra tid bit, it's best to put the cut side near the side, so it grows forward in the fan shape and has plenty of room to spread.
Iris grow from rhizomes, they grow best barely under the soil. Too deep and the rhizomes become soggy. So, the tips given here make sense. Shallow soil, and limited water.
I'm sure I cause confusion, I know you are growing Ginger, not Iris, I am comparing what I am familiar with.
There's just something so delightful about seed starting in the spring! The smell of the dirt! The cheerfulness of the extra light! And seeing the green things starting to peek out! Happy times! 🙂💚🙂💚🙂💚🙂💚🙂💚🙂
At one point my grandparents had an aviary with over 400 birds and they bought their seeds in bulk as well. They used a concrete mixing drum to combine their seeds. Was amazingly efficient and easy to do!
🤩
Hey cool to hear Eric do a voice over. Ariel is such a bubbly engaging narrator but I enjoyed Erics calm intro too. Im excited for gardening updates!
Just finished supper and wondered what I would do with the evening. How exciting to see a new video. Thank you for including us in your life.
If you can find plastic sleds the same width as your bed you can use those as drawers underneath your bed. I use this under a bed at home and after putting you items in sleds or bins you can slide everything out from under the bed for access to still use all the storage under your bed.
I actually found yalls channel through garden content years ago. I just stayed after that. I've learned so many things. You guys truly are AWESOME! 💛🐥🐝🌻
The icicles in the outside chicken coop are so beautiful,,almost like feathers , Ariel your cinematography is really wonderful, l really hope one day you will make a calendar or book for us to buy love from northern U.K. 🙏😘
They do have a calendar!
WOW! I was not expecting this! I thought we'd be watching you process your Caribou. Loved watching all the spring prep. Back when I could have a garden, I loved this time of year, all the planning, all the seed catalogs. Parks, Burpees, and one of my favorites, Vermont bean seed! So much fun! Thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane. I'm checking out Azure foods as well, ❤ to all. Lori from Oregon. Give Bandit an extra hug for me.
Now having binge watched ALL of y'alls videos, I get so happy when a new one is posted. I live vicariously through these.
I have watched them for years I have never miss a video 😂 Welcome
Same, living vicariously through these two.
I agree 💯 and I may have missed a video or two during the initial days and weeks of the channel but with this being probably most favorite UA-cam channel I try never missing anything presented by this wonderful 👍 wonderful team and I see them as a true blessing in my life.
I love the way you care for your animals. My condolences to your loss of sweet doggie. What a wonderful life you gave him, and all your animals…♥️💕♥️
So happy to see you put out a video today. Love the voice over Eric. You got healthy looking chickens. Thank you for sharing. We are so lucky that you take us along and allow us to follow your life. Take care✌️🇺🇸❤️❤️
I love so many things about this video. Eric's narration at the beginning was wonderful! I hope you two continue to incorporate that style here and there. The garden!!! Yay!!! Im sooo stoked, and can't wait to see it on your new propery! As always, your meals make me hungry, lol. Those sloppy joes looked incredible! Love from Oregon❤
An idea for more space: if you raise your bed up like a big bunk bed you can use the under-bed area like a closet and have great access!
We love your channel! How you care for your animals, respect the land and teach us as you go along! Love to watch the cooking, see how your inventions work! We just love your entire content! Thank you for sharing.
You are my absolute favorite UA-cam channel. Your videos calm me at the end of a rough day. I adore your relationship with one another. Your photography is STUNNING! Simply the best!
Can't wait for the new garden..you guys are brilliant gardeners. Would you ever consider expanding the cabin..either out or up?
Having an appreciation for things like hot water, or indoor plumbing is something that most Americans have lost an appreciation for. I appreciate you guys for mentioning it.
This is what I love to see people doing, starting there own seedlings for their garden. Very nice. If it hasn't yet been mentioned, and if yer not doing this, I would recommend getting some smallish low speed fans to blow on yer seedlings after they've grown a few inches. This will help with elongation and help to eliminate stretching. It provides cool air to slow down the plants up- growth and fattens the main stems called the apical dominant stem. You guys are awesome. Please 🐝 safe in all that you do. Happy seedling growing
It was sad not to see Bo laying on his bed.🥺 I didn’t realize Azure distributed to Alaska! Hope you both are doing well!
Haven't watched for awhile, has Bo passed away?
@@SandraRix86 Sadly, yes, just 3 weeks ago. The video for that announcement is titled "All Dogs Go to Heaven | Our Beloved Dog Bo" 💔
I am happy you still appreciate your indoor bathroom!
Yall need to add an arctic entry to your home! Keep all the bulky winter stuff out there and shield the main cabin from the main entryway!
You guys should be a role model for the new generation . I live in southern Ontario and I didnt start my garden yet , waiting until the end of May :))
Love Eric’s voice over. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. I get so excited when I’m notified of a new video. You both amaze me of how you take care of your land and chickens. Also love the cooking videos. You guys rock it out of the park. Love it.
Eric dude you are a great husband, giving arielle a ride on the wood slid is very nice.
It is pure joy to watch your videos, dankeschön! 😊
Someone is so excited about the garden that she is grinning from ear to ear about manure and bags of soil and is visibly giddy! Love it!
The lead in music and visuals were absolutely phenomenal. Kudos to who puts that together. The seed propagation is really awesome. The dinner looked fabulous too.
Eric doing narration for the video was amazing!! We never know what to get with you guys. I love it!!
Edit: Aww, Bo's sleeping area 🤗 He will never be forgotten. He was a HUGE part of the videos for us dog lovers ❤
Those buns with the Chilli Joe's looked amazing.
Your rhubarb comment made me smile, I can hear my mother saying “here, have mine” she had it so much as a child at boarding school that she can’t stomach it now. I love it with apple in a crumble. I probably wouldn’t have snipped that ginger leaf off right down there, but perhaps half way. Only because the leaves will still on half a stem would still be photosynthesising and making food for the plant and you can keep it trimmed up. Whereas you now only have the one stem to make food and the development of little rhizomes will be slower now. Am looking forward to seeing your garden develop, the one at your old place was amazing.
Did the bees make it?
Would you consider adding a bedroom extension? It wouldn’t have to be huge - bed, clothing and a little bit of miscellaneous storage? Maybe just a ‘some day’ project as you have so many other things on the go. 😍🇨🇦
OK. let's just stop here at 1 minute 9 secs. because I have to say while I know very little about photography/videography I have to say your video's are stunning. You take time for beautiful shots. On top of your talent, creativity, and your eye..... do you have some out of this world equipment or are you just so skilled you know how to make it look so so in focus and perfect? And then your skill/talent at picking music really puts me over the top. I love it. And I do always, well not the actual up to your arms in blood, ( though I admire your tenacity and care to use everything you can) I love what you share and if I knew you in person I know I would love you 2 to pieces. Nuff said. Carry on.
I went back, just to see the picture you reference. It is gorgeous. Sunset, I guess? Lovely shots from their drone.
No one can complain about your baking skills!
I rarely comment here, the channel has grown so much that I'm insignificant, but by chance yous read this I will say. The start of your videos has always being really nice, especially winter my fav I love it. In addition with the drone footage it always sets the tone/mood for a beautiful video. But this voice-over beginning with the work yous have done, noice👍
We read all the comments, thank you for your kind words. I thought Eric did a really nice job 🙂 I think our love for Alaska and our lifestyle has only grown over the years but we do strive to be creative. Also we really don't say thank you enough to the folks who follow and make the channel what it is ❤
I really get the pleasure of getting the mostly dried or pantry goods in from a whole foods retailer - the pleasure and excitement and packing it up in proper containers. it's such a lovely sense of home.
Ive been lying in bed watching this thru headphones. And I must say Eric talking at the start of the video is so nice. Hes pretty good at this as a narrator.
we lived in our place for 12 years with no hot water..I don't care what it costs or ever costs, I will not live without it again..lol it's a staple of life as far as I am conscerned
Can't believe it's been over a year since we've had some gardening content. I'm so excited for it. Going to be an epic season! Everyone start seeds with me.
I always find your videos so refreshingly authentic.
No unnecessary contrived chatter... No airs graces etc. Just plain what you see is what you get and that makes it different and worth coming back for a look.
South Africa 🇿🇦
Happy International Women's Day! Wishing you strength, happiness, and all the love in the world♥
Big Lake here... We have a small cabin, too. We hang our winter clothes... snow pants, hoodies, jackets, along the top of our bed frame. They dry out faster, and it also blocks out some of the early morning sunshine. Nothing like putting on warm winter gear before you go outside into the elements. Love your content 🫶
Arielle, you do a great job on your videos it's all about the way you present your self you talk clearly, knowledgeable, and with a smile from time to time. Eric does a good job too.
I could never get tired of this vibe/ scenic nature! ❤
Oh my gosh! fields of lavender! that would be unreal!
I see my favorite couple are getting ready for Spring. Still cold, but as this month and the coming months, they will be busy as Bee's. May there Spring be good with weather and all there time will get the job they want done will be seen through. May they have a Blessed Spring.😊❤👍👍🙏🙏 Keeping you in my prayers.
Your bread always comes out so beautiful! Thank you for your videos. Always positive attitudes even when there's a struggle. I learn from you all the time.
😍 You are an inspiration for humanity . Love to see you working and living together . You are made for each other . Love you guys .
Been a viewer for years and you still are both inspiring marriage goals.
Ariel, might I say that you are looking happy and content. Your pumpkin/ autumn colors look good on you. Best videos on gardening. Cant wait till harvest!!! Eric, you amaze me with all of your ideas and accomplishments!! Kiss the kids for me!!
Will do 🙂 thank you 💗
Loft it👍🏼 I do appreciate seeing the two of you working together🪶 keep smiling!
Thank you✨🌱
You have the same looking cat as me✨🐈⬛
he’s such a good boy💙that was cute to see :) and seeing you snip the ginger just when I was about to write that I wouldn’t trim it too short..yet😂made me smile so thanks I so needed it today🪶glad you left a sprig!
Just beautiful little ones✨🌱
Plant the tomatoes! i bet you guys would surprise yourself. You got a kit before, and you already have the history with building one!
I love your life and way of living. Thanks for sharing. And the cinematography is top notch.
Those buns do look good. My wife is cooking chicken wings in the oven and they're the best chicken of any kind I've ever eaten. The recipe came off UA-cam.
It’s so beautiful to sit back and watch positivity instead of all the bad news fare from the TV networks. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to watching what projects will come with spring. ❤❤
Hey guys, maybe you could look into a slide out rack system for under your bed. You could easily access more of your storage items underneath your bed. You could just pull the rack out to reach things underneath..I'm sure you could come up with a system that would make your life easier and give you access to more of your storage. Good luck! Good luck also with your new garden high tower. Looking forward to seee the results of your labor. As usual, you guys are doing a great job!
It's awesome to hear that you used to live in Forest Grove at the college they have the best antique hot rod car show in the summer I enter my car every year❤❤❤
The wonderful Fabulous Ariel so sweet I'm sure your family is thrilled with you my favorite season Gardening and wonderful vegetables
It's nice to catch up with you all again - I have to admit, besides being busy, I was staying away because of Bo . I love to see all that you're doing - the garden should be amazing! Fun video, you two! :)
Chickens love ginger greens. I also feed variegated ginger leaves to my chickens. Rosemary grows like a tree here so I feed the extra to the chickens.
First thing i would do...build a nice mud room on the front. It would give you a place to keep boots and coats and coveralls.. firewood...all kinds of storage...and would keep the mess off your floors!
I'm in Florida, sweating with humidity today, we are lying here with the window open and fan in it as the sheriff's helicopter buzzes repeatedly overhead. So nice to seek the solise of this videography and blessed isolation of a completely different climate. It cools me off just to look at the snow on the trees. 🥶⛄❄️ 🌲
Enjoy your videos as a suggestion on your seed project you need to put chains on your lights so you can adjust your lights just above the leaves then adjust as you go. This will keep your plants from getting leggy and form a strong stem. Good luck on your adventure. Jeff
Hi! Great videos! Greetings from Europe! I saw you were improving things. I would like to tell you one thing that is typical in Europe but I rarely see in the USA. Houses in Europe have a "porch", a corridor in front of the entrance, which is a kind of airlock. Such a corridor stops the wind and saves heat. This room in front of the door is also used to leave dirty clothes ("mud room"). I think you could easily use this solution at home and in the chicken coop.
Always a good night when you two post I wish it was every day lol
I really love the voice over catch up. I still love seeing you guys in the moment more but it’s great for the catch up. ❤️
The introduction footage with music is fantastic! You are a very accomplished videographer and the UA-cam videos (especially the creative stuff you do) are top shelf! Cheers!
You two have become my new guilty pleasure when it comes to TV watching. Your life reminds me of growing up in Saskatchewan; the winters were brutal, we relied on a huge garden and everything we ate, we produced. You have even encouraged me to start a small garden again, and I am 73 years old. Good job !! I would really love to send you a Christmas card that would hopefully end up in your "vacation" cabin. . Where could I send it?
You guys should add onto your cabin to make it bigger. You guys are so amazing. I love watching your channel.
I remember as a kid my aunt and uncle lived in Teslin Lake Yukon they had such amazing gardens because of the long days. Knowing you are starting seeds makes me think I'm behind the growing curve. Back to my aunt and uncle, they fished a lot, and all the fish guts went in the garden. I couldn't believe how big the cabbage got. Loved the video !
We run an Azure drop in Scio Oregon. We have been involved with them for 15+ years. People are very happy with it. Fun to see that you are using them. 😊
As usual, I love your videos. 😊Thank you for sharing your life! I live vicariously through you two! You always bring a smile to my face and heart! Looking forward to your next video!!!
wow those shots in the first 2 mins are amazing
Thank you for another delightful video. I feel blessed that you share your lives with us.
Wondering what you are going to do with the quonset hut. Have you considered putting in a plant growing room near one of the rear corners?
Each currently unfinished building ends could be finished with (1) walk thru doors, (2) garage doors for vehicles, and (3) lots of windows.
One corner for gardening, seed planting room. One corner for storage room. One corner for a guest bedroom. Fourth corner for an extra kitchen or something else you need. All in consideration that you will have heat, power, and water in the Hut.
Best wishes for 2024 and the future! Very excited about your new garden!!!
the landscape where u two live is so beatiful thx for the vids guys.
What beautiful scenery and love the music you put to your video!!❤❤❤
Love your opening videos. The backlit black spruce look like Group of Seven paintings. The music is lovely as always. You are artists!
Again, an awesome intro! Love seeing your animals. Delicious looking food. Yay, for some gardening. Y’all take care and God bless y’all! 😀❤️
I would add a mud room as far as your roof sticks out and during the winter could put generators inside and vent them properly so fuel lines dont freeze and hang work clothes and windows for starting plants or a skylite. maybe a small tent type wood stove or a vented propane stove.
I overwinter our Rosemary every year inside. Just a good sized pot because the plants can get seriously big. Also loves more water than you would think. A clay pot with a drip tray seems to work great for us. Our particular Rosemary plant is over 5 years old at this point.
Guys, Thank Yall Soo Much!!! All of us lowly mortals Love y’all’s Life!! Thx for taking us along!! Xoxo❤️❤️❤️
I haven’t watch in a little while …good to be back 😊….fabulous videoing
