As you probably know Floor growls down to Eb2 in Yours is an Empty Hope and in Ghost River. I have been having a discussion about whether growls and indeed Whistle tones (like Mariah Carey) can or should be considered part of a singers vocal range. Do you have any thoughts on this.
Maggie, you are right, honesty is the best policy. I guess a professional like Floor prefers honest commentary. And she often stated that its a constant effort for her to improve. I'm sure she'd value your judgement as helpful as grounded and real as she is. After all, its a beautiful performance in my opinion.
Fangirl reactions are a dime a dozen. I much prefer a knowledgeable analysis such as this, where I can learn something. This was wonderful Maggie, so thank you!
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you today in 1 hour on Twitch for more singing and FUN LIVE REACTIONS where you get to react with me LIVE? www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic
I agree that honest reactions are the best although not all Nightwish/Floor fans will feel the same. My favorite singer for this song (at this moment) is Montserrat Caballé. I can't explain exactly why though. Just as my (current) favorIte singer for Ave Maria is Kimmy Skota (Opera singer from South Africa). She makes me feel the most Emotional.
Maggie, as a die hard Floor fan, I really appreciated that you did not hold back. I maintain that she's the best vocalist to ever walk the metal scene, but was always interested to know who good exactly she is in her opera, especially knowing that Floor herself said on multiple occasions that opera is not for her
I think one of Floor's greatest strengths as a vocalist is that she has a very good understanding of how to deploy the various parts of her vocal toolkit to best perform a song, and here you noticed that with the choices she made at many points in this performance that worked around things that would be difficult for her to do with the relatively limited pure opera background she has. In contemporary and classical crossover singing where she's more comfortable, she focuses that same decision making ability on maximizing storytelling and emotional resonance to great effect, but fundamentally it's the same skill set of understanding what her voice can and cannot do and when to deploy the various things it can do.
Hi Maggie. Interesting to hear your suggestions for improvement. Floor watched some voice coach reactions to some of her performances but never heard something really useful she said. Maybe she will one day see yours and find it useful. Good that you can immediately show live the difference of how you would sing it. Thanks and greetings from the Netherlands. 👍🇳🇱
Floor had one year of opera, one year of musical theatre and four years of the Rock Academy, a conservatory level program. She has said quite bluntly in more than one interview that she is not an opera singer and doesn't claim to be one. She can use operatic technique when called upon to do so, but I think her true strength lies in musical theatre. "Ghost Love Score" could be straight out of a musical and it's right in her wheelhouse. You made mention a few times of classical crossover. Can you please pin a comment describing what you mean. I get it as when I was young, I was an amateur classical singer, but others may not understand the reference. To an untrained ear opera, liturgical (classical) and musical theatre all sound the same. When singing in Nightwish, her breath support often draws praise from pro singers, so it's interesting to hear it critiqued from an opera perspective. As we know, it's more difficult to sing a complex phrase on a single breath than to sustain a single note for the same length of time. Go back and listen to "Shoemaker" as some of those phrases are quite difficult and she isn't running out of gas on those (at least to my ear). In this performance, being on TV in a music program, I do think she may have been feeling a bit nervous, so more tension was creeping in than otherwise would not normally be there. Not making excuses, just the reality of performing an operatic piece on a TV show without the benefit of extensive training. Hard not to be a bit tight and as we know, that affects breath support as well. There is a definite difference in the tightness of her jaw in this performance vs. when singing other genres in other situations. I've seen enough videos of her performances to say that she looked very tight and nervous in this one. I would love to hear a recording of her singing this today from her home studio. I bet we would hear a much more relaxed and refined rendition. Cheers and keep up these thorough reactions!
Bill Attercliffe Also this performance was in 2010. That is 11 years ago... Her voice has only got better since. Even though she still doesn't even like opera that much. It simply does not interest her. This performance was for a Dutch TV show who asked her to sing opera for the occasion. They knew she could probably pull it off. And she did in my opinion.
@@hansolo2121 Something I realized afterward is that this performance was roughly 8 years after she would have been studying at the conservatory. That's a big gap between school and performance for anyone. Imagine not having used Calculus for 8 years after university then having to use a Laplace transform to solve a complex problem.
@@maggiereneemusic "Song of Myself" yes and your headbanging is really getting there. :) When you have a minute, listen to the album version as their is an extended segment with a spoken poem - very poignant. Unfortunately I forgotten the song, but Floor was working with another band and supplied some backing vocals using what was probably the most operatic tone I have heard her use. If I can remember where I heard it, I'll post the link.
Yeah. Floor has also said before that she isn't a huge fan of opera and it's more difficult for her to sing, she prefers when it's mixed with other genres.
@@theCrownofSympathy Floor said it'is more difficult for her to sing only because (1) she never really trained for it and (2) she simply never wanted to sing opera. She always wanted to sing in much more 'classical' and other metal styles. She only uses opera in small portions when it suits a song. That's why she wanted to have at leas 'some' training so she knows what she is doeing. In this way she is polar oposite to Tarja who literally only wanted to sing opera and nothing else and has been trainging for opera during all of her career. And for me still Floor does a better job than Tarja when singing opera, a style she doesn't even care for...
Truth in reviewing flaws in technique is preferable over starry-eyed adoration. Life has its imperfections. It is better to realize one's mistakes than to go blindly forward. I applaud your honesty and technical expertise. This is your territory. You haven't sliced and diced Floor. You've acknowledged her incredible vocal talents. Truth trumps ignorance! Well done, Maggie! Well done!
Maggie, An absolutely top analysis while still staying respectful and positive on those aspects Floor did do well but as you said a fully dedicated opera singer focuses on specific details Floor doesn’t and vice versa. Again: very well done!
Good review, good and fair rating, really. And that's why Floor is not a Vienna Opera soloist and does not perform at La Scala (for example) but wrecks the scenes as one of the best female vocalists in the metal music scene ... :) Thx Maggie :) btw. Try "Stabat mater dolorosa" by Simone (Epica) & Floor!
@@maggiereneemusic Btw Ihis performance is from 8 years ago shortly after she joined Nightwish, she was not the singer she is now. Just specifying as you were using the present tense.
First of all I'd like to say I love ALL your reactions, because you give your HONEST opinion of the vocals, whether good OR bad. And I'd also like to point out that I'm a HUGE fan of Nightwish AND Floor Jansen's voice. That being said, unlike some who might post negative comments about your opinion on Floor's voice here, I PERSONALLY absolutely respect hearing your honest unbiased opinion which is based SOLELY on your training as an Opera Singer. GREAT reaction video as always, and I'm definitely looking forward to more. I did have a suggestion for another reaction video, that being the song Hell to the Heavens by Leaves Eyes (the Official Music Video version). The ONLY reason I suggest the Official Music Video version is because while the few live versions I've seen sound like the singer is actually hitting higher notes than in the video, the video itself portrayed visually the images that the song depicted from a lyrically perspective. But even if you never do a reaction video to that song, again GREAT reaction video.
Floor once stated that if she watches a reaction video, she prefer it be from a professional who might have pointers and tips on how she can improve her performance since she is constantly trying to improve herself.
I think (nearly) nobody will kill you since most people here have already seen / heared that you don't only talk but you have proven that you can actually sing nearly everything even after you just heared it for the first time. I don't know any other reactor who has ever shown so much talent, so i highly respect what you say.
😊Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you on my Twitch live stream in a few hours today and watch me react LIVE to great artists: www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic?
I also appreciate your honest reactions. I am a Floor fangirl, but even Floor herself admits she gets nervous when singing classically/operatic in this way. So I think it's good to point out the areas that need to be worked on. No one is perfect, after all! Also you ma be interested in the fact that Tarja, the original Nightwish vocalist, sang this aria as well. I'd be very interested to hear you analyze her style with this aria as well! She performed it in her "Beauty & the Beat" concert. Tarja has also done an album that consists of different versions of "Ave Maria" which you may be interested in hearing as well!
@@maggiereneemusic I did very much! I always love when you do the windmill like Floor. I also enjoy seeing you take in their music for the first time and going through the lyrics and composition, not just analyzing the vocals.
Not bad for a Metal Superstar with only one year of classical/musical theater training. She said she did it to develop the high end of her Soprano range.
That was great! For something more recent in the opera/operatic genre make sure to check out Floor performing "Vilja Lied" at Beste Zangers 2019 next! ♥
Yes, and I definitely would like a reaction to Epica „Stabat Mater“. It‘s from the same concert as „Sancta Terra“. Watch metal fans cheer for a purely classical (and also religious) piece of music….
As someone who will criticize herself more than anyone else I don't think she will be upset about this. Honest reactions backed by knowledge and ability are the best.
I love Floor, but I also loved your honest and constructive criticism. As said by many others here, she had limited training with opera and that was many years before she did this performance, so I'm not surprised she missed a few of the stylistic choices of opera. But of course, when doing Puccini, those are not things to ignore. But I will say one thing, this was nearly 9 years ago now, and she is constantly working to improve, so I don't think this is a good representation of her current breath support abilities.
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you on my Twitch live stream in a few hours today and watch me react LIVE to great artists: www.twitch.tv/MaggieReneeMusic?
Maggie, just saw my popup notice of your intent to react to Floor's "Babbino Caro". I am really, really looking forward to seeing this from you. Thank you! You are perfectly qualified to review this performance. If I could add one comment: remember, Floor was very young when she did this, so go easy on her a bit -- e.g. imagine where YOU will be TEN YEARS from now, singing this song !! But on the other hand, if you think you see something from a technical point of view that could be added to the performance, and wanted to illustrate a bit, coming from you, that would be welcomed, and educational for us, even as Floor fans! So good luck! Can't wait for the show!!
It's so fun to watch stuff like this. From someone with an untrained ear, she sounds amazing, but putting it through your filter, wow what a difference. Learning about the little things, about small improvements that make big impacts.
Hi Maggie, not going to kill you, rather the opposite! Love the opera-professional critique on this. Actually refreshing to hear ANY critique on Floor's singing. Most reactors are giving praise, the professional ones generally give loads of technical explanations on what it does that make Nightwish and Floor stand out so much. But I really appreciate this breakdown on Floor's "pure opera" skills.
Great reaction, Maggie. As we all know Floor chose a different career than that of a profession opera singer, and we are glad she did. That said, I would like you to do a reaction to another opera piece by Elizabeth Zharoff from the "Charismatic Voice" singing "Martern Aller Arter". Elizabeth sang this for the Queen Elizabeth competition in 2011. She absolutely incredible.
Thanks for that. I grew up with opera and have a good ear, so I could tell some things were not quite right. But with no technical knowledge I could only describe it in laymans terms. It was really good to hear about the techniques and have some clarity on what I was hearing. I'm a fan of Nightwish even though it's not a genre I am normally attracted to. To me, she is kind of like a female Freddie Mercury with a little more classical leaning. But she has it all, versatility, stage presence and really draws people in.
Oh, also : Maggie "I'm not a soprano" Renee showing us how it's done! Sweet. BTW, Floor is fluent in Dutch, English and Swedish; and is learning Finnish (but I suspect this performance was from before she knew any Finnish). I reckon we can forgive some less-than-perfect pronunciation in her Italian.
I would like to watch you react Tarja's version of this aria, and your analysis. Floor don´t do it bad at all for my taste, considering her training. She goes allways beyond her possibilities, lovely woman she is. Very good reaction, and you perform excellent too!
Great reaction. As others have said, she did one year of classical education and never had the intention of singing more in the opera genre. So she does rather well whenever called upon to do the crossover classical thing. This was also a good while ago and her singing has improved over the years. The ease with which she performs Vilje Lied on Beste Zangers, being an example. Also, the consistency of the 'spin' she has on the finale to Shoemaker is an indication of her development and commitment to her voice, and the importance she places on interpretation. She is a crossover singer and exemplary in this role. By comparison, do some critiques of opera singers attempting metal, rock or pop, if you can find any worth reacting to. I watched a video of Maria Callas doing this aria and it intrigued me how individual it was and didn't fit into some restrictive, "this is how you sing opera" mode. What Floor does so well is sing beautifully - the timbre of her voice is intoxicating - and, in addition, her empathy with the song. I actually believe, from her expression, that she is a young woman pleading with her father to allow her to elope with Rinuccio and that she will, indeed, throw herself into the Arno, if she can't. I'll bet many highly-trained opera singers, while being more technically perfect, don't have the same level of believability, just as it's a stretch to believe that a middle-aged Maria Callas can convincingly carry the role. And I'm really glad that the guy in the audience that the camera spends rather too much time on, didn't end up eating Floor's liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti (or, if you prefer the superior book, a 'big Amarone'). A close call.
She's a classically trained singer she took a year of opera and musical theater she also went to the Rock academy in the Netherlands she's been in the business 24 years she's incredible
Agreed, she is incredible. The way you start your comment is as if these years can be added up. She took her classical training in which there was opera. It gave here extra capabilities but it is in no way comparable to a classical singers training, specialised for 10 or more years. And as Floor prefers to use various qualities in her singing, centered around musical theatre and metal, she isn't a high level classical performer. If she was interested she would work to improve it. But she improves things within her favorite genres and right she is!
Hi Maggie, great and fair reaction. Honesty and putting things in perspective is all everyone can ask of you, not a lot of that going around lately and you made some good points. Floor did a good job and she'll be the first to admit she's not a full-time opera singer. Some background info from the pre performance interview.. This 2013 performance was after Floor just joined Nightwish and she was mid-tour (literally jumping on a plane to South America in the next Monday) and this was a reprisal of the same performance in the same show in 2010. There is also a video of that online and I am just curious to see if there are differences between the two performances. Floor did take some time away from singing and just when she got started again she almost immediately joined Nightwish last minute. I'm not here to make excuses, just interested to know if that factored in or if she has always performed it this way. The tv program by the way was an idea of the presenter Tijl, to introduce classical music to the general public. They purposely asked performers outside of the classical world to help with the mainstreaming. Which of course didn't work one bit...but hey nice try.
The meaning of this programme was to bring classical music to people who are not in to it. The presentor is/was a pop discjocky who loves classical music (in his freetime) and wanted to share this love and educate the not knowers. A hard to sell format for television. One of the ihe ideas was to let singers from other genres perform classical music. Not as a pro but as, in Floors case, the metalsinger who can do more then only metal to make a bridge between genres. Nobel to try and educate the people and win them over. Floor herself was in the most challiging periode of her entire career. Fresh new with Nightwish, fresh out the burnout, in between touring. She did the classical training to learn about her voice, never to become a classical singer and after that i think she didn't practice her voice as a classical singer but as a 'modern' singer. About this she talked a lot and very realistic and interesting. Loved the interviews she did because they are so inspiring down to earth. Hope your 'stil alive' and thank you for your honest en scillfull reaction.
@@maggiereneemusic Thank you for the question because it certainly made me do it and i loved it. Both the music and your composed reaction. It opened a lot of associatians and memory's. MTV in its highdays.... even deep in the internet hidden accoustic sessions of After Forever, Floor Jansens first band, the guy's she took to get a place on the new founded Rock accademy. Love these story's. Thank you for Alice in Chains!!!!
There is also a 9 year old Dutch kid singing this song on Holland got Talent. There is a version with English subs on youtube. Her name Amira Willighagen and is now a professional singer. with opera and musical songs.
I think you did a nice job in critiquing this. Glad you noted that Floor is not a professional opera singer, while also noting that her rendition was pretty good given that fact. I believe I read she had only about a year of schooling in opera. The *only* thing I could argue slightly is that I don't think Floor had any reverb on her mic so the comparisons with your vocals were a little bit unfair, though I also think you put the reverb on your mic to highlight the effects more so than to create that slightly unfair comparison. If that makes sense. I also don't think you needed the reverb to enhance your chops; you obviously don't and are immensely talented in your craft.
Thanks for your constructive critism to this performance as professional. Floor Jansen was that time very nervous. She definitely knows by herself not being an opera singer with only a few years training and the lack of necessary practicing all the time. Therefore you saw tension in her jaw movements mostly in the first half of the song and hitting not the right Italian vowels and consonants. In all the years Floor has become nevertheless very famous for her dynamic vocal energy on stage to the crowd, her voice versality and vocal range. As metal singer she is also not arrogant, continuously trying music out of her comfort zone, amongst Italian/ Old Latin/ German opera, and absolutely loved by her audience as myself.
Maggie I agree with you. I am a musician who grew up on both classical as well as rock/metal genre. I spent a good portion of my life listening to a professional opera singers and yes, you're right about her technique. Floor's opera singing isn't perfect, but we can all agree that she's a great all-round singer, and she does a great job considering that she never had a 4 year training that's usually required for an opera singer to be able to perform in their fullest potential.
Floor is not really a trained opera singer, but I'm glad to watch her doing this aria with her vocal skills. I love this song with the voice of Monserrat Caballe, but I enjoyed this one too. Certainly, you have an amazing voice, It was pleasing to listen to you singing it and explaining the technical details of this kind of aria
Liked this react. It nice to hear true opera singer show how it should sound like instead of talking lot of techniques in their names only because us non singer's wouldn't understand. Like portomenti's and such. Although I've heard it's definition before. Thank you.
Thank you for the commentary! It's quite rare to have someone really dissect pieces like this and pointing out what an actual opera singer would use technically. There's another live piece you could critique too: Stabat Mater Dolorosa by Epica feat. Floor. There's also another version Epica did in 2009, but there's no video footage, just the audio (Simone as the soprano, again, and a mezzo in the alto role), and Simone also sang Ombra Mai Fu in that particular show (The Classical Conspiracy, live CD), which was before she transitioned to soprano techniques, I think. I don't know if you'd ever do those two, but I'd be curious to see what kinds of critics you might have still.
This wasn't long after she was recovered enough from Burn Out to perform again, so not only did she do only a short time training in Opera/Classical singing, she had a period where she was doing little singing (also why her Nightwish fill in is so impressive, is she has said that a week or two earlier and she likely, physically would not have been able to fill in for them)
@@maggiereneemusic Yes, I did, and yes, you are going to have to windmill for every Nightwish song now (~_^) Just take Floor's advice on it and anchor yourself, arms to the thighs, and rotate the head with a relaxed neck (wait, I did remember to like it, right? . . .***wanders off to look*** oops, I forgot! Fixed!)

This was on a television show in the Netherlands. It was all about classical pieces. They had numerous facts, live music and vocals. Sadly it’s not on anymore, but because it was on national television (which means it’s funded by the government) you can still watch the full episodes for free. I can try to find a link if you’d like.
I would have loved to hear how a few years of an opera Floor would sound but that would have been years taken away from metal Floor. She is definitely metal in her personality so she chose what was best for her. I am just glad she has some opera in the toolkit. And I'm sure she continues to work on the opera in whatever capacity she has time for. She sounds lovely on Shoemaker, a Nightwish track from 2020.
Floor even said that she was surprised herself when doing Shoemaker that how her voice sounded like. She said something like she likes her operatic/classical tone a lot better now than ten or fifteennyears ago.
This performance was a couple of years pre nightwish ..this was in the dutch tv program tiende van tuyl back in 2010(with on piano iris hond)...bear in mind floor is no trained opera singer and had 2 years classical training( teacher she met at the tilburg rockacedemy). You know that there is niw a dutch tv show called aria in which operasingers are judged that would be something for you check that out!
I don't know this woman but I find your analysis very informative. I agree that although she lacks technical skills she has very beautiful voice. I wish I could watch your reaction to recent Amira Willighagen some day ^^
Floor Jansen is the current lead singer for the Finnish Symphonic Metal band Nightwish. In this particular TV show they had singers from other musical styles singing an Opera piece. This performance is from the end of 2012 (broadcasted early 2013) when she just had replaced the previous lead singer in Nightwish during the midst of their Worldtour with only 48 hours notice). Besides the Rock Academy in the Netherlands (from which she graduated in 2003), she studied as far as I know only 1 year of Opera and Musical Theatre. Opera is not her favourite music style, and she studied it to expand her music tool box she puts to use in her own singing.
This was recorded end of 2012 or beginning of 2013. She had just (2 or 3 months) joined nightwish. Before that she had a burn out and did not sing much. That might explain the breath control issues. She normally does not have them.
Yeah well..it's a great reaction in your point of vieuw as a Opera Singer👍👌 but....Floor is Floor and for me it's the TONE in voice that makes her so special and Unique, you can hear directly it's Floor. I also think that if she sings it now again she sure will do it different. Kind regards from the Netherlands ❤
Wow--Maggie--you are the best opera reviewer I have ever heard because you give so many specifics. I learned so much listening to this!!!!!! Thanks so much. I would recommend you listening to a 10 year old singing O Mio--yes 10!!!-- Amira Willighagen. She is singing outside in Maastricht before a crowd of over 15,000 with Andre Rieu. It is truly an amazing performance--actually unbelievable for a 10 year old. I predict that you will be stunned by her abilities. Oh, yes--she was self-taught until the last few months before she sang this perfomance and had only just started lessons. She learned how to sing opera by watching youtube videos of Maria Callas and imitating her!!!!!!!!! At age 9 she won Holland's Got Talent by singing O Mio, Ave Maria and Nessun Dorma. Please, please watch this performance!! It has almost 59 million views and is watched over 1 million times every month!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how old is she there too cos I think she looks pretty young. It's impressive how she does dive into all these other languages. I was looking forward to you doing this one. It's fascinating what different types of music look for as far as being technically appropriate. Also I've meant to ask you forever - when you go to study opera I figure Italian lessons are part of the deal? Are you fluent in Italian or do you just memorise the words needed?
The criticism is why I stop on your cannel for a while. Thanks for not ripping her to parts, Floor isn't a an opera singer by profession by any means. But that's no reason give her a pass when it comes to her performing this soprano set piece of singing. I'm not a singer, but I can appreciate many nuances in it. And you sang beautifully, thank you for the reference to keep me on the map where the faltering sections were. But over all for a singer who has only taken opera as a study subject for a year, Floor isn't bad at all. In stage presentation I think she has the face of that grumpy teenager, who denied her lover threatens to throw herself from the Ponte Vecchio. Emotionally, her expression plus the song, I'm impressed!
As for a newer example of an opera piece, Floor did Vilja Lied for Beste Zangers in 2019 ( I beleive) ....though it is rocked up a bit ....I think you would find it interesting
(I know this is an older video :P ) I think it's also like If you haven't done something for a good while you need to get comfortable again.. This was in the period she just "ended" her burnout and she just started at Nightwish (if you check the full version she tell that it was just a couple of weeks after she was asked to sing for Nightwish. I am not into opera and don't know anything about it, but I myself heard those things you mentioned it didn't sound bad but it sounded like it had to be different from what she was "doing". I also like your voice when you sang those parts (although I never was into Opera because for me it's to loud in many parts (I "have" hyper sensitive hearing, and some parts of opera hurts my ears, not saying because it's bad but just to piercing for my hearing).

Thanks for your skill at explaining to a non musical person, its hard for most people to see anything wrong with what shes done here and just be mesmerized by how great a range of singing Floor can handle, of course we should still be mezmorized but accept no one is perfect and we can all learn something no matter how good we might be ;-)

I would like to thank you for this reaction. It is very honest, and a process why a lot of the floor fans who try to put down TARJA are just showing their ignorance. They say that floor is better than TARJA because she can do classical or opera just as well and also the contemporary style better than TARJA. But the fact is classical is not as much of a strength for her as it is for TARJA , the same way that contemporary singing is not as much of a strength for TARJA as it is for floor. They both have a give-and-take when it comes to their strenghts, and they both dip into the other style when they see fit.
Floor has a special voice in the opera, original, she can perfectly sing a full operatic song with a full operatic voice within framework, which is in opera singing, but she can also go beyond this, and add a lot of new and varied to in opera singing
Hi Maggie I really like the video of her singing at a Revamp Concert. The crowd was quiet during the performance. Tarja also sings this song. She only had one year.
Thank you, Maggie for such a detailed analysis without getting too much into the technical side of singing. You've made me realise why I never really got into opera : I didn't really get what to listen out for. To my younger self, it just sounded like vocal exhibitionism, if you see what I mean. I daresay Floor would agree with your assessment, too. IIUC, she's always up to learn more about singing.
🤘🇫🇮 Nightwish army Finland 🐻 Thanks for tipping me of this reaction Mags! Nah - real Nightwish fan only respects professional point of view. You can directly mirror our rage amount of the music genre's band's we listen to. Guess if you'd criticize some other genre's music, you could wait "drive by shooting" 🤣 Hope Floor calls u on the stage as ft. singer when they tour US nxt year...
Hi Maggie !! I really appreciate your break down on this video and genre. I enjoy some Opera but I really don’t know anything about it in detail so your insights were really interesting. I find it extremely amazing that Floor sings this style so beautifully but then jumps over to the NIGHTWISH side and kills that too. Mind blowing !! I have been exposed to Opera with the Three Tenors, my favorite, and Andrea Bocelli and then a much younger singer from BGT by the name of Jonathan Antoine. I’ve watched the BGT audition a hundred times and I still get goosebumps from hearing Jonathan. I follow him to this day as a matter of fact. Thank you for your insights into this video/singer/performance. Stay well. 💐

Floor herself doesn't claim to have her opera skills down perfectly. She said she's sacrificed focusing on some of that training to pursue her rock career instead.
I don’t know why you keep telling us that you’re not a soprano, it doesn’t matter you can still still have a wide range and hit some of those notes regardless. And you sound amazing in your demonstrations.
Obviamente sin afán de criticar xq es muy muy difícil esta pieza ,pero la versión de María Callas me hace llorar cada que la escucho ,la mejor voz femenina de la historia !!!!🤯💪😍🥰👌
Have you watched Amera from Holland got talent age 9 sing this OMIO BABBINO CARO SELF TAUGHT OPERA UNBELIEVABLE and she sounds better than the gal you just showed, and yes now I have heard you sing you have a beautiful voice ,

As you probably know Floor growls down to Eb2 in Yours is an Empty Hope and in Ghost River. I have been having a discussion about whether growls and indeed Whistle tones (like Mariah Carey) can or should be considered part of a singers vocal range. Do you have any thoughts on this.

I maintain that she's the best vocalist to ever walk the metal scene, but was always interested to know who good exactly she is in her opera, especially knowing that Floor herself said on multiple occasions that opera is not for her
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the Alice in Chains reaction I just posted?
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you at the Premiere of my new reaction video to NIGHTWISH tomorrow?

She only had studied for 1 or 2 years in opera. But I'm so happy you reacted to this. You both have great voices. Wow.

I would like to watch you react Tarja's version of this aria, and your analysis. Floor don´t do it bad at all for my taste, considering her training. She goes allways beyond her possibilities, lovely woman she is. Very good reaction, and you perform excellent too!
Thank you for your lovely comment. 😊 Hope to see you TONIGHT at my LIVE stream?

@@benbermusics she has the classical, metal, pop qualities, with few opera!!! Classical is different from opera!!

Thank you for your comment. Did you like my new reaction video to Nigthwish I just posted?

Great and true review!

My own voice training was done at various football grounds, meaning that notes have no purpose at all but volume is very important. 😆
great analysis and break down, always enjoy your reactions 👍👍🤘🤘

For “not being a soprano” you hit some high notes with incredible precision. Props
Hey, I think that's a pretty good review, considering she's not actually a classical singer. And she would be the first to admit she isn't. :)
It was reacted by The Charismatic Voice ( opera singer ) and she had nothing but high praise for Floor.
@@eddiecreutzburg7375 She is also well aware that floor is not an opera singer. And with that in mind- it’s amazing
Thanks

Thank you for your lovely comment. Did you like my new reaction to The Dead South I just posted?
Floor has a special voice in the opera, original, she can perfectly sing a full operatic song with a full operatic voice within framework, which is in opera singing, but she can also go beyond this, and add a lot of new and varied to in opera singing

Yes! Floor _can_ sing opera!

Hi Maggie I really like the video of her singing at a Revamp Concert. The crowd was quiet during the performance. Tarja also sings this song. She only had one year.
yeah inopera they all sing it exactly the same way.. . seen one seen them all
Thank you, Maggie for such a detailed analysis without getting too much into the technical side of singing.

Guess if you'd criticize some other genre's music, you could wait "drive by shooting" 🤣
Hope Floor calls u on the stage as ft. singer when they tour US nxt year...
Thank you for your lovely comment and hope to see you on www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee?
Yeah she didn't graduate from Juilliard with honers as an opera major so...
Stay well. 💐

Nice to see that Floor made the song her own, as she does with most songs.

Have you watched Amera from Holland got talent age 9 sing this OMIO BABBINO CARO SELF TAUGHT OPERA UNBELIEVABLE and she sounds better than the gal you just showed, and yes now I have heard you sing you have a beautiful voice ,
I think Floor would appreciate your constructive criticisms. She is such a student of the game of singing.
Exactly! Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you at the Premiere of my new reaction video to NIGHTWISH tomorrow?
I only hate on people for bullshitting me. An honest opinion, that's what I'm here for. Besides. Even I could recognize some of those flaws you mentioned. Great analysis.
Loving this “no, like this”. Massive flex
I love your reactions, they always make me smile

Consider as well that this performance is about 8 years old now and Floor has only got better since then. I wonder what she thinks about this performance herself. Still love it though :)
