Floor does a lovely job when she sings opera. I feel there are some from certain factions who get a bit annoyed or offended when she receives a bit of praise there, but I think a couple things should be remembered: 1. Terrific review and analysis of Floor performing this aria. The versatility of her vocal prowess is incredible all on its own. She has a spectacular talent unique to any other vocalist I have ever heard and I say that complete sincerity. But to me, what is simply stunning about her vocals the most (that has literally brought me to tears in appreciation) is the extraordinary audible quality of tone and pitch coupled together with her grasp of the importance in proper use of vocal technic and emotional dynamics that is essential to a high quality presentation of the lyrics. Floor uses those attributes such as vibrato, portamento, etc. with her voice with masterful precision. She never sounds forced or out of depth because singing in this fashion is simply the way she approaches her craft naturally. It’s breathtaking regardless of the style of music she is performing at the time. It doesn’t matter if it’s having fun with Phantom of The Opera with a more edgy presentation, performing Ghost Love Score with the band Nightwish, or as she is doing here in a straight up opera aria, you can pretty much be guaranteed to feel a reaction far beyond simply being impressed. When Floor Jansen sings, you feel it and very often in a profound way that makes your eyes water in appreciation for something so audibly beautiful. That may sound a bit over the top, but it’s an absolutely accurate statement. There is a very good and solid reason that so many folks consider her one of the best vocalist of all time and I am pretty much a supporter of that contention. Floor is simply another level of excellence in her vocal talent and it definitely helps that her tone and timber are just beautiful even when she is just speaking plainly in conversation. Unreal.
I 100% agree with you. My personal description of it is: Floor pumps emotions into you. Not via wifi, but straight into your heart by means of a thick Lan cable. It hits you like a brick. I even love opera when she does that. Who could have thought that???? Unique in the known world.
It's such a pleasure to get your critiques, Elizabeth. So informative for the public, yet so knowledgable in detail that a professional (I performed for 21 years, I'm 72 now) can also understand and appreciate it. And, I heard YOU sing. Wow. What a powerful, beautiful voice you have. Guys, you have to hear her sing too!!
Wow! This is really your field of knowledge! Floor's version of this is absolutely gorgeous .. but what really gets me, is the level of details, you spot. I'm a long time martial arts instructor, and within that field it would be hard for anyone to get away with anything, without me spotting it. I enjoy ANY kind of skill that requires a lot of practice, but within martial arts I will spot anything ... not so much in say ballet or athletics. As much as I love all of your reaction videos, this is clearly your field of knowledge. And it shines through how that operatic flame burns inside you. I love it!!
When you stop and think that 1) Floor isn't that fond of opera, by her own admission, and 2) she's only had about 18 months of actual opera training, it's pretty amazing she's this good at it. Imagine if she was really into it; though, I think most of us are happy she's not :).
I found your reaction channel because of Nightwish, now I don't miss any of your reactions, and by the way, you have a beautiful voice (and smile). Greetings from Portugal
Thank you so much for this reaction video, Elizabeth. I really appreciate your knowledge and your analysis is great. You´re doing great. Floor Jansen is one of the best singers. Her voice is inredible. It was a pleasure to see this your reaction video. Great thanks, Elizabeth :-).
Floor knew she loved singing, but she didn't originally commit to a profession like that since she knew it would be either classical or popular music. As a metal head, she just thought it wasn't for her to study singing. She studied to be a horse vet until her country suddenly instituted a rock academy. She applied and got in. From there she trained her vocal skills which we all enjoy today
Ronnie Aspback Actually she became the singer of After Forever at age 16. She went to the Dutch Rock Academie in Tilburg in 1999 when she was 18 years old. It was the first year this academie was opening. She had already been fronting a metal band for two years at that time... In fact she auditioned for the Rock Academie with her then current band After Forever supporting her musically. The 'judges' for the Rock Academie enrollment procedure said "yes".
So normally, I'd be commenting coming from the crop of Metal fans you have out there, but coincidentally, my sister is tackling this song for her next Voice exam (in Opera), so I thought of listening in to hear your comments and analysis Floor Jansen pulled this song off beautifully and hearing you get down to the nitty-gritty details on her placements, attacks, etc. really help people appreciate how much more there is to singing than just well... singing. Really enjoyed this. Thanks!
Elizabeth: you are simply one of the best reactors/reviewers. The combination of expertise, enthusiasm and brilliant descriptive flourishes (the feather pillow metaphor) are terrific. Great stuff.
I remember when I clicked your reaction to "Ghost Love Score" out of curiosity. It was my first time both watching one of your videos and listening to Nightwish and Floor. Best. Click. Ever.
@@TheCharismaticVoice I certainly do appreciate it. Also, I'm curious about what your reaction to Nightwish with Annette would be. She's not Floor or Tarja, but in songs like Scaretale she's great.
Songs that I really wait for Elizabeth reaction... How's the heart acoustic (maybe a double with lyrics video x acoustic), Vilja Lied and Your's an empty hope...
You wouldnt know if she herself had not mentioned it in interviews lateron, but according to Floor, she had never been so nervous to sing a song as that time (up till that time, she might have experienced similar lateron in life) She knew she wasnt singing to rock/metal fans, but rather that she was facing Opera lovers, people who know the music inside out, it put a lot of pressure on her. Well, regardless of all that she pulled it off... and then some, she isnt a Opera singer.. but she could be, oh boy she could be... Such an incredible versatile singer she is, she can sing pretty much any and every style you throw at her... and nail it. Ty for the lovely react and upload Elizabeth :)
Your deep and profound love of opera is so evident in this reaction. This is absolutely one of my favorite arias, and Floor did a wonderful job on it. This aria first came to my attention decades ago - in the 80's maybe? - when a performance of this aria by Kiri Te Kanawa was featured in a national commercial. I have no recollection of the company or the product, but the aria I remember well! Thanks for the great reaction.
I hear this, i hear beautiful sounds from Floor who I love. BUT hearing a professional like yourself admire her. I think that's what we love most about reaction vids.
fantastic as usual, Elizabeth! Your understanding of "bel canto" is exceptional and your genuine pleasure in listening to a fellow gifted singer is refreshing and heartwarming. now YOU should sing "O Mio Babbino Caro" and let us enjoy how YOU sing it! pleeeeeeease 💓💓💓
Hi Elizabeth, I Loved this performance and I Loved your Reaction & Analysis! Floor's performance in this intense aria was amazing given the fact that it's not her usual setting but it's also not her usual crowd (NIGHTWISH Fans). This was a lovely version of this piece and she was really Calm, Controlled and Confident (a little nervous but had Nerves of Steel to perform out in the Public). She is also the first Opera Singer I've ever seen w/ a Hoop Nose Ring!!! Floor is an Amazing Singer and Goddess!!! Thank You, Elizabeth!!!
By far my favorite reaction to this piece (and also my favorite reaction off your channel). Love how analytical you are when it comes to your speciality!
I will just say thank you for a deep and meaningful explanation of Floor's version here. I like opera and especially the way the colors of the singers voice can manipulate or control your feelings and emotions - Floor does if here - again, or as usual, I better admit - and it is so precise how you pinpoint and explain what's going on. Thank you ❤️🤘👍
@@sapinta I think you are right... the Dutch language has many "hard" sounds in it like complicated vowels, such as "dipthongs" ui, oe, ei, etc. and also consonants like g, r and z which are pronounced in a way for which the vocal muscles must work harder. So Dutch people have naturally a lot of training of their vocal muscles, that helps... and also makes Dutch hard to learn for non-Dutch people, and especially anglo phones.
@@rientsdijkstra4266 there's more to a language than just pure sounds, there's intonation, flow, rythmn (for lack of the proper words, sorry I don't know how to explain myself). Anyway, I think English is very different from Italian on that regard, but I don't know duch to make a comparison. As for sounds, it also seems to me that, between English and Dutch, English sounds the more alien and distant from the sounds of Italian.
@@sapinta It is true that there is more then sounds, but the sounds are what tax your muscles in that area... But if English is more alien or distant from Italian: I really don't know... (you could be right) I think that that is also in the ear of the beholder, so to say
Oh goodness, this piece always gives me goosebumps. It makes me think of the classic scene in A Room With A View with Helena Bonham-Carter in the field of cornflowers. Floor did not disappoint! It's wonderful to hear her range, both in scale and style. Gorgeous, just gorgeous! xx
Great reaction as always! I love it when you geek out on the technicalities of singing, and to hear it in reaction to a song and singer like this makes it really accessible for me, who doesn't have any formal training. So many "oh, now I get it"-moments when you explain something and then go back and play it again with focus on it. I feel like I hear more in the music and that is a fantastic feeling. Thank you!
So glad that you are bringing in opera. Your break down of the elements and challenges in operatic voice is excellent. We are also very blessed to be able to hear the remarkable Floor.
Thank you for doing this song! I've been waiting to see what you thought of this performance, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Also knowing how you enjoyed Tarja's voice, if you're interested in hearing Tarja's more operatic background, you should check out her project Noche Escandinava. She also did a concert a few years back entitled Beauty and the Beat where she performed O Mio Babbino Caro as well, among some other arias. Just a couple suggestions for you to explore Tarja's classical side as well. :)
On top of your expert analysis, I really appreciate that you always include the link to the original video in the description! Far too many channels never do this, regardless of the topic.
Some of my favorite symphonic metal songs are from Xandria when Dianne van Giersbergen was the lead singer. She performs extremely well live. Sacrificium is a really long song, but it’s still my favorite. Stardust and Betrayer are also very good.
Yeah Wow!!!!! Somehow I like opera and this is a delight to my ears. I heard a male version of this actually which you probably know is rare.......... but its really awesome too, its by David Phelps....... you would love it!! And I think I might like to hear more from Floor too.
The most emotional Floor song with Nightwish and Markos and Tuomas are also very intense is "7 days to the wolves" for me , its as intense as the Poet. Congrats on 100k subscribers and great job with Ayreon TDTTWBD.
Soo happy you liked this. Myself a total layman concerning operatic performance, going by emotions instead of any technical background, I could not be sure all was tops in this performance - even if it looked like. :) I was worried, knowing Floor to have stated she did not particularly care for pure opera, so who knew her aria would convince a pro?.. One thing I learned a number of times over - never doubt Floor.
As always, you gave us an amazing analysis of Floor's vocal abilities. Many have already recommended Vilja Lied from Beste Zangers and Stabat Mater Dolorosa (Epica - Retrospect show). I'd also love to recommend another great vocalist that has studied opera (she has her masters and even applied to the Opéra Royal of Belgium but didn't get the place). She as her own band since the early 2000's, Ex Libris, and was the last vocalist of Xandria. She also features as the Soprano in Ayreon's last album (Transitus) and was a back-up singer in their last live show. I'd recommend you check out Ex Libris - The Motherland, or The Courtship from the Ann trilogy. For Xandria, Ship of Doom is one of my favourites from her era in the band, haha!
Again I hit the thumbs up before you started to speak and again you did not disappoint me. Loved your excitement to hear Floor sing an aria, loved the knowledge you showed breaking down this aria. Growing up in Amsterdam it is almost impossible to get opera tickets. The tickets sell out very very quickly and tickets were hugely expensive for me.
Would love to hear your insights on her performance of "Stargzers" with Nightwish at Tampere. I think it's one of the most operatic performances she's given with them, and it would be great to get your take on it!
Beautiful done Elizabeth. Loved the analysis. Floor is the first to say that she is not a soprano opera singer. She simply loves to use some of the techniques in her style. To hear more operatic style singing from Floor you may want to check out her duet with Simone Simons on "Stabat Mater Dolorosa". Congratulations on 10K subscribers! Till next time. Peace.
With all the training and work Floor put into her voice It is awesome to see so many reactors, fans and such praise her for her opera type voice I love all her talents as well. What I truly would love to see is more praise and coverage of her chosen singing path to be the most bad ass and awesome heavy Metal singer ever. Long live Rock and metal !!
Dear Elizabeth, I don't know if you are aware of it, but Floor and Tarja are long-time friends, and did an interesting duet of Gary Moore's "Over the hills and far away" - not only the singing is worth mentioning, but the girlfriend camaraderie and overall cuteness and goofiness that the two of them exhibit. It was just around the time Floor got the permanent membership in Nightwish.
I love it!!
Thank you John Lundgreen! It means a lot to me that you like the video and the channel.
When you stop and think that 1) Floor isn't that fond of opera, by her own admission, and 2) she's only had about 18 months of actual opera training, it's pretty amazing she's this good at it. Imagine if she was really into it; though, I think most of us are happy she's not :).
I thought that it was full two years musical theater & opera, but only part time. See www.floorjansen.com/bio
I an glad she is in nightwish 👍👍
@@tarmotyyri6733 she only finished half of the training.
I was going to say "that's a metal singer doing that, basically," but you probably put it better :)
I found your reaction channel because of Nightwish, now I don't miss any of your reactions, and by the way, you have a beautiful voice (and smile). Greetings from Portugal
Thank you Jorge Brito! It means a lot to me that you like the video and the channel. Obrigado!
So normally, I'd be commenting coming from the crop of Metal fans you have out there, but coincidentally, my sister is tackling this song for her next Voice exam (in Opera), so I thought of listening in to hear your comments and analysis
Floor Jansen pulled this song off beautifully and hearing you get down to the nitty-gritty details on her placements, attacks, etc. really help people appreciate how much more there is to singing than just well...
Best.
Click.
Ever.
Thank you for your kind words Carlos Mingorance. I'm glad you appreciate this video!
@@TheCharismaticVoice I certainly do appreciate it. Also, I'm curious about what your reaction to Nightwish with Annette would be. She's not Floor or Tarja, but in songs like Scaretale she's great.
Exactly the same for me 😁 I think I have listened to over 50 Floor songs in the last few days.. I guess I am officially 'Floored'...
Songs that I really wait for Elizabeth reaction... How's the heart acoustic (maybe a double with lyrics video x acoustic), Vilja Lied and Your's an empty hope...
Yes, those 3 songs....
You wouldnt know if she herself had not mentioned it in interviews lateron, but according to Floor, she had never been so nervous to sing a song as that time (up till that time, she might have experienced similar lateron in life)
She knew she wasnt singing to rock/metal fans, but rather that she was facing Opera lovers, people who know the music inside out, it put a lot of pressure on her.
Well, regardless of all that she pulled it off... and then some, she isnt a Opera singer.. but she could be, oh boy she could be...
Such an incredible versatile singer she is, she can sing pretty much any and every style you throw at her... and nail it.
Ty for the lovely react and upload Elizabeth :)
if she does the vilja , hope she does the jennizelf ones with lead in with the subs. the avrotos ones really cut stuff short.
I agree! it gives a much better notion to what the song means for the featured guest and also the reactions of the other singers afterwards.
Yeah. jenniezelf needs more credit than she gets.
@jenniezelf Thank you so much, Jennie!
I wasn't into classical music at all but I love this channel and the host.
YOU LOVED OPERA AND I LOVE WATCHING YOU. I HAVE LEARNED A LOT. So, thank you.
Stabat Mater Dolorosa... with Simone, Floor and Orchestra... 👂❤
I love your reactions. Thank you for introducing me to Floor Jansen. She is stunning. Love this opera piece, love Nightwish. What a voice!
I hear this, i hear beautiful sounds from Floor who I love.
BUT hearing a professional like yourself admire her. I think that's what we love most about reaction vids.
Thank you for giving authentification to Floor's versatility. Yours is a valued opinion.
Her work in Nightwish is so fun to listen to. I never took the time to hear her like this. Thanks!
Such great insight you have for us! Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this!
I have seen and heared Opera, Floor is Heaven 💕💕💕 Into the Arno with all the critics
fantastic as usual, Elizabeth!
I listen to Floor sing this couple times a week at least. Gorgeous.
You should definitely save Floor's performance of Ave Maria with Marko live in Hartwall arena for a holiday's reaction!
By far my favorite reaction to this piece (and also my favorite reaction off your channel). Love how analytical you are when it comes to your speciality!
Yes "Vilja Lied" from 'The merry widow' by Floor is amazing.
Seeing you fangirl over Floor Jansen makes me so happy because, honestly, same!
As we are closing to Christmas I suggest ”Ave Maria” by Marko&Floor
just listened to that, stunning
On point! Thank you for suggesting this mihaapala.
Yep ,this the right Song for Christmas Floor and Marko are awesome
Or, also amazing, "oi jouluyö" by Floor, which is "oh holy night" in Finnish.
@@FoxyRovie yep, its great. The pregnant Floor sing, like a Angel or Valkiery 🤗
She is the best! She really has to have the passion for singing and I think it really shows. It’s beautiful and so is she.
Thank you ❤️🤘👍
I harken back to your first reaction to Floor Jansen.
When you said "forsure she's had some classical training" 😁
Italian here, and I must say your pronunciation is very good, it is rare to hear it from an anglophone speaker!
She is a native Dutch (not anglofone...) speaker, maybe even harder... Dutch sound are even more different from Italian
@@rientsdijkstra4266 but usually duch have a better pronounciation than anglophones.
Being the opera fanatic (and major Floor aficionado) that I am it is so much fun to hear your reactions to and breakdown of this. Merci!
Oh goodness, this piece always gives me goosebumps. It makes me think of the classic scene in A Room With A View with Helena Bonham-Carter in the field of cornflowers. Floor did not disappoint! It's wonderful to hear her range, both in scale and style. Gorgeous, just gorgeous! xx
Found Floor and Nightwish through this channel...so thank you! ❤️
Would love to see your take on her singing Storytime with Nightwish. Wacken 2013 is the best.
And EVERDREAM! Not enough vocal coaches ever hear/react to this absolute powerhouse belt-fest
Thank you!
There is a video of Floor singing her old After Forever song "Energize me" in a classical arrangement accompanied by a string quartet!
So glad that you are bringing in opera. Your break down of the elements and challenges in operatic voice is excellent. We are also very blessed to be able to hear the remarkable Floor.
Can't wait for this. The Goddess, The Aria, The Elizabeth. Break out the champagne again, Kirk!
Back - again - after watching you perform as a young Elizabeth...
Something to keep in mind towards the holiday season is Floor and Marco singing Ave Maria. One of my personal faves!
I've just recently found out about Nightwish and Floor (thanks to your channel). She's an impressive woman.
Every time Floor sings, goosebumps!!! She is absolutely my favourite ❤
Pergolesi - Stabat Mater Dolorosa, Floor Jansen and Simone Simons with Metropole Orchestra and Epica.
On top of your expert analysis, I really appreciate that you always include the link to the original video in the description! Far too many channels never do this, regardless of the topic.
Elizabeth, Stabat Mater Dolorosa from the Epica Restropect show with Simone and Floor. Its absolutely stunning
It's nice, but IMO far from stunning compared to how professional classical signers would have sung it.
I think you will love to watch her singing one of her old band song Energize me a capella with Red Limo String Quartet.
Some of my favorite symphonic metal songs are from Xandria when Dianne van Giersbergen was the lead singer. She performs extremely well live. Sacrificium is a really long song, but it’s still my favorite. Stardust and Betrayer are also very good.
And Dianne is a fully trained opera singer, i 've seen her doing this O Mio Babbino Caro in full opera mode
Jaap Blaauw
Ooh, I’ll have to look into that!
Floor just floors me with this performance!
Methinks you'd really love Floor and Simone's rendition of Stabat Mater Dolorosa ....
This just proves my point floor Jansen can sing anything she's incredible....
Please continue the Floor with a great vocal from Nightwish- "Dead Boy's Poem" Live In Buenos Aires 2018 - Decades Tour
Thank you. Nightwish- Beauty of the Beast. Live in Amsterdam 2002.
Your expressions are great haha but I also love your detailed commentary. Might I also suggest Floor singing Vilja Lied from Beste Zangers?
I love watching you fangirl about opera 😍
I've never seen you look so engaged! This was fun!
And Floor growls too - what amazing vocal cords can do!
React nightwish: how's the heart acoustic live planet rock. It's espetacular!!!
Long live Rock and metal !!
you made me happy with this reaction. thank you so much elizabeth.
I also believe they are doing Tuomas' arrangement of the song(it was covered by Nightwish earlier on).

I love the introduction (in this tv-show,)of Floor when they showed her performing with Nightwish. The faces of the audiance 😁
Thanks for analyzing this, i just discovered Floor performing in this opera/classical show♥️
Love your analyses. You would love Simone Simons (lead singer of Epica) and Floor Jansen singing Stabat mater dolorosa together
