“Beauty & The Beat” is something very different than your ordinary rock show, let alone your ordinary classic concert. Its music played in an unorthodox manner, it’s the performance of a wide range of classical pieces and rock songs together with an orchestra and choir. It strikes you with awe.
Originally planned as a one-time event - the first performance was already held in 2011, the show was too successful with fans and critics to simply never happen again. In spring 2013, Tarja Turunen and drummer Mike Terrana again toured throughout the world, from Poland to Russia to Mexico.
The music of “Beauty & The Beat” ranges from immortal classic pieces by Bach, Strauss and Mozart to Rossini, but doesn’t neglect pure rock music like songs from Led Zeppelin, Queen as well as Tarja’s own pieces. All combined with orchestra and choir with more than 100 musicians on stage, an enormous sound, energetic drums and Tarja’s angelic voice.
Tarja and Mike complement each other musically. Whereas Mike bangs his drums with rock attitude, Tarja shines with her crystal clear voice and incredible stage presence; all lulled with the warm, full sound of an orchestra.
Who besides me thinks Puccini would be not only impressed, but proud of Tarja Turunen?

It's the first time I hear her voice without metal music hahaha. I figured she could sing marvellously in an actual opera, but I was still blown away. Amazing singer.
She unfortunately can't. She said she's unable to carry a full opera by herself because she's not specialized in that area. Even though I think that she's one of the classically trained singers that brought arias and old music back to people's reality.

@@huhuhuhurricanestreamwow7937 I remember her saying that. She loves opera but needed to pick a side as opera takes an extremely long time to get professionally trained in, and she has her metal career.
This woman is the very reason I fell deeply in love with opera. Have been following her since the early Nightwish days. I myself sing without any background and am planning to train myself in classical singing because it comes naturally to me. At this point I just need to say that although the trained ones state she is not a full-fledged classical singer (according to the standards), I have NEVER.. EVER heard this color in a voice of a soprano. NEVER. To me, this is (if not THE) one of the greatest voice colors on earth. In the end color and emotion impact more than technique. I ADMIRE her.
The colour voices of Edda Moser, Renee Fleming and other dark spinto sopranos its not common but it exist actually in opera singers

@The Scalla Yes, I am not familiar with the majority of soprano talent out there, for sure. I just wanted to stress out that it is not reaally common to find a soprano with such a full voice. It is mostly "hitting notes with extreme accuracy, but high and thin pitch". I guess you get the idea. But most probably Tarja is not the only one, yes. But she IS rare, indeed!! 😁

Same! I never really appreciated opera until I followed her here from Nightwish. Man, what a transition. Hearing her in NW though in songs like Sleeping Sun and Swanheart, I wasn't really surprised, she's right at home in this genre.

You simply can’t call Tarja a crossover. She was learning Opera for years. She is a professional Opera Singer.
I believe tarja was an opera singer first prior to metal. So its not a crossover.

But technically she's not an opera singer and never was, according to her. She would require different training to be an actual opera singer, but she has chosen to go a different path. But no doubt she would excel if she chose to go that path.

Tarja definitely slayed this song better than Floor. Actually, she's the reason I got hooked into Nightwish so long as she keeps tab with the song's arrangement and does not change anything.

Floor is great at belting and making songs her owns. But her operatic is below average, also people often complain about Tarja's accent in NW songs and praise Floor when her pronunciation in operatic pieces is incomprehensible and weak.

To be honest I didn't expect her to be so good. I don't like her singing much with Nightwish but this was quite beautiful. Nice one Tarja.

@@xyo1337 Sorry, didn't realise I was not allowed to have an opinion. Personally I found her singing with Nightwish too high pitched whereas Floor has a better range. Don't get me wrong, as an opera singer it's great.

Floor isn't classical and has stated she isn't classical or classically trained. Nightwish has lost its magic ingredient, ironically around the same time they lost Tarja.
@@ericcoyle3520 What do you mean by saying "better range" ? The range cannot be better or worse ,"vocal range" is simply the span from the lowest to the highest note a particular voice can produce , and I'm afraid Tarja's range is slightly wider than Floor's :)
@@MrRoziuke Sorry, I don't think I was being clear. I wasn't talking about that sort of vocal range. What I meant was that Floor has an ability to switch styles of singing from Opera to rock to pop, whereas a lot of operatic singers sing pop but have to make it an operatic version. If you watch "Best Zangers" you see that, whilst the other singers are really good, Floor can pretty much sing anything in any style. The other singers just don't do that. I think that is pretty impressive.

Floor has a slightly better punctuation, but in no way does she have more vocal punch/force, call it whatever. This is as clear as a day.

I'd say they both have very powerful voices, but it irks me to no end when some fans like to say that Tarja is a weak singer. Someone even said one time that Marco had to hold back when Tarja was in the band because her voice was too weak. LOL, fans can be utterly delusional. This petite lady is a powerful singer!

I'd listen to l'amour est un oiseau rebelle, and I 'm sure that now she can perform it so well than this piece in becoming the rebel Carmencita for a few moment. The performance where nice, but not like Mio bambino Caro. I though that she climbed higher than she did at the end of the song.
OK, I' m unable to perform Carmen before several months of hard work, but I know the Carmencita since my childhood. I'd listen to Carmen on good old 33t record in my grandparents home, on their electrophone I was just 6-7, My solfege teacher made learn to my class the kids 's choir once a year(while one month about). Later I'd listen it on cassette, performed by Julia Migenes and Placido Domingo for myself, later again, at school, in musical education school program, I studied the oeuvre and been watch it at the Arts's theater at Rouen, with the school, as I watched the film also with the school where I was.

It does not really matter, does she sing it best or not. I guess she understand that only in her interpretation most of her fans would listen to such music for the first time, so she tries it. After her singing they will feel curiousity and find better singers in this genre, she needs only to give them this road to such music. And also she herself needed such repertoir to improve her own skills, to get out of her comfort zone

Is it my impression or the conductor looks like is signaling Tarja to slow down? Her tempo sounds just perfect to me.

Ужас. Вот в этом вся суть живого исполнения. И если в эстраде все эти промахи прокатывают, то при исполнении классической музыки - нет. Сам знаю, сталкивался. Переволновалась похоже, так как школа у неё ого-го. Уверен, что она может спеть это произведение куда лучше. Тем более, что к ней всегда пристальное внимание, как к интересному исполнителю и личности. Рад, что она спела это лучше Сары Брайтман. Там вообще ахтунг, а не исполнение. Вообще нельзя сидеть на двух стульях. Это во всём. А в искусстве - прежде всего. Либо ты в искусстве, либо на поп-сцене. В этом проблема певцов, которые хотят быть всеобъемлющими. Так не бывает. Айм сори.
