@@TheVoiceLoveCo Hello Christi, I enjoyed it too :) Do you think you are ready for some metal Epica now? Metal fans often are underrated as music lovers; Metal however can be very complex in its structure; varying meters, key changes, chord progressions, etc. as opposed to (modern) pop music. It is often said musicians in metal are amongst the very best around and that certainly goes for the vocalists as is demonstrated here.
Also the roots are much more related to classical music that people might thought initially, specially some subgenres like symphonic metal or power metal
I played and sung classical music for years and..am a metalhead. They often go hand in hand. A lot of metal musicians are classical trained and a lot of metalheads love classical music. It touches your heart and both music genres are so captivating. Also the NON symphonic metal lovers (deathmetal, trashmetal etc), the more rough metalheads mostly love classical music. I don't know one who doesn't.
This is my favorite duet of these two beautiful ladies. For metal musicians, it’s common to learn other genres of challenging music such as classical and jazz.
Hello Christi, it might come as a wonderful surprise to you: there is a huge number of metal fans out there that actually are actively involved in classical music - baroque and renaissance era especially - and because of that interest specifically enjoy the many resemblances between the metal genre and classical music (and opera). Vivaldi is also amongst the great influencers of the metal genre and as it happens, his Stabat Mater is right up there with Pergolesi's (or Scarlati's, or...). There is no coincidence in the fact that many classically trained musicians end up playing metal, and many opera and vocal coaches react to contemporary gems in the countless metal subgenres. As for the Stabat Mater Dolorosa from Pergolesi, all the people I know personally to appreciate the composition, are keen metal aficionados. In the Epica video, just watch the public's facial expressions illustrating the above... Thank you for your lovely reactions!
I'm 63 and hearing this for the 1st time! How wonderful! I could hear my dad, turn that Beatles sounding trash off! Not knowing this is what those 2 powerhouses are capable of!!
I started to love Opera after heard Symphonic Metal for the first time, so what you said is true, Metal open our mind and hearts to different styles as well.

I love it that you can toss a 14th century hymn into the middle of a metal concert and everyone just switches to the classical concert etiquette and keeps vibing. I dare you to try it the other way!
Loved the reaction! It's indeed very refreshing to see metal fans appretiate good music even beyond the genre Some fun facts *This is the same show as the other song you reacted to (Sancta Terra), and it was prior to that, near the beginning of this massive 3-hour concert. Floor then returned near the end for Sancta Terra. *This is not the only classical music reference in the show, there's a duet between a violinist from the orchestra and Epica's lead guitarist Isaac of 'Presto' one of the movements of Vivaldi's Summer. Not vocals there but it's another gem. *Epica initially wanted Tarja Turunen (the first singer of Nightwish, who is also clasically trained and big influence for Simone) to be guest here. Sadly she couldn't come but luckily we got the other big voice of NW instead (sorry Annette) *You might know this already but it's always good to remember that Simone was 3-month pregnant in this show. Her performance was really impressive.
As discussed I highly recommend Design Your Universe from this concert The music, orchestra, choir, vocals and lyrics combine to give sublime perfection (to me) EDIT: the lyrics would tie in with your mindset videos too
@@TheVoiceLoveCo Btw Christi, did you know Simone used to sing (she tried to) like a mezzo? Allegedly, in the beginnings of her career one of her vocal coaches told her she was a mezzo so she tried to sing like a mezzo. Today Simone says she can't listen to her own voice from that era (I think first 2 albums) but that voice was actually quite unique and I love it. I see other people in comments often saying they loved that young Simone's voice too. I would be curious to hear your opinion. The technique might be "wrong" but at least she didn't sound like dozens of other singers. Like I said, I really love it! Would you like to try it? I am metal fan since almost 25 years. I love metal but who said that I may not like other music? Metal and classics are perfect combination to me. Sometimes I used to go philharmonics or opera but still I love more some addition of metal. Therefore. No matter what music you are creating. Do it masterfully.

As I said before I may never make it to those Great Pearly Gates but I at least got to hear what Angles sound like singing at them!!!Just breath taking especially with the orchestra and a shout out to them for a wonderful job done behind these angles.
I grew up in 80s-90s when parents were so scared s#!+less seeing their sons and daughters listening to long-haired bands playing music with distorted guitar, accusing it as Satanic or uncultured music. The fact is, many of metal musicians were (and still ARE) very educated, cultured, well-versed in a lot of things, including the most considered "cultured" music, the classical. Now we have symphonic metal sub-genre in 21st century, in which symphonic elements are played and classical songs are performed by metal artists well-versed in classical and opera music. If my parents were still alive, they would be shocked by this performance.
Let us NOT forget THE MOTHER of symphonic metal Sharon den Adel, with her band Within Temptation! Also of course a Dutch symphonic metal band from 1995.
I have been a lover of metal music since I was a child. When I was in elementary school in the 80s, we studied music for at least an hour every week. In seventh grade, we had to study and listen to the opera The Magic Flute composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. And yes, I am Finnish and I live in Finland.
When seeing and hearing this you should switch in mind to "Yours an Empty Hope" from Nightwish with Floor doing the growls. It makes this incredible performance even more gorgeous.
Hi Christi You will love it. The bad part is that it's not long enough. There's another song that Floor sings O Mio Bambino Caro at a Revamp concert . The fans were quite also
Thank you Christi. I have the same thoughts as you as regards opening the ears of people to genres that they would otherwise dismiss or be afraid to explore. I am also a classically trained musician who has always sought out the new music regardless of genre. To me, it's like finding treasures that have been hidden in plain sight. As for the performance - both singers show us their mastery of the fundaments of singing. Their intonation and blending is perfect. Especially in the chained suspensions that pierce the heart to paint, in music, Simeon's prophecy for Mary.
A wonderful reaction as always! You were talking about eye contact. I would like to invite you to react to The Islander by Nightwish, and share with us what you notice.
The one thing that is very incredible is that you have a whole audience full of metalheads and they are totally silence because they are captivated by these two lovely singers.
This is so Beautifu!!! 🖤 And they did it so well, so beautiful! Also the orchester! But Simone and Floor are great singers, i also think it's a little bit easyer for both singing together because they know each other well, for many jears and they sing many times together. They know each other's singing. And you have right, not many people can sing in this quality this here AND in a Metal Band! But we know Floor and Simone so it's not such a surprise! 😉 Great reaction like always! 🖤 Wish you a nice weekend!
I'm 55 now but in my early twenties I listened to both metal and classical and lots of people did at that time. It's not a new thing. I remember going to hi-fi fairs when they were selling and demo-ing high end gear. The audience was basically a mix of metal and classical listeners and the metal heads would listen to a lot of the classical.
This piece "Stabat Mater" from Pergolesi is interpreted every year on Easter (Viernes Santo) in Pamplona´s Cathedral (North of Spain) where I'm from. Never, never i could imagine Flor and Simone singing this master piece... and with lyric voices¡¡¡¡. Versatil rock and classic. I love this singers, specially Flor. As much as I like this piece there is one piece by Allegri that tops them all and that is ' Miserere Mei, Deus'. This totally transports me above and beyond! I had a classical grounding when I grew up and became fond of all things Baroque! In saying that my discovery of Metal drove me down that rabbit hole never to return. I have had the thinking between the two genres even though they are centuries apart there are many similarities in the basics of their music. Some may find this fanciful but I know many classical trained musicians that tend to agree, food for thought!!
I was just watching Julia Lezhneva and Philippe Jaroussky singing this prior to watching your reaction which came up as recommended! As you pointed out the differences in the singers as with the two I aforementioned one being a counter-tenor and the other soprano!! It does not matter what type of vocalist sings this it is a wonderful piece!! For me I was brought up on classical before I was well ensconced into Metal!! There is an argument that Baroque and metal have similarities in music but still it is up for debate!! Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction 🙂
Great video and sound! I loved this performance very much. They both looked lovely...and so do you, Christie. I hope you will soon start with the decontruct of the new season of Beste Zangers 2021. It has Anneke van Giersbergen! I was also very much like the other performers, Karsu, Joe Buck and Bokkers.
We knew these ladies wouldn't disappoint you (how dare they 😉). More classical from Floor (Puccini's *_"O mio babbino caro"_* ) also in a Dutch (2013) tv-show about classical music called "De tiende van Tijl" (the 10th of Tijl): song only: ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AVROTROSKlassiek song + small interview with Floor (Eng. subs, marked as Dutch?): ua-cam.com/video/Od_qcbw3f5Q/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LLSPhotography
I have listened to this video for several times now. I like it a lot. Till now the version of Christopher Hogwood (Emma Kirkby and James Bowman) was my favorite. But Simone and Floor did so well, they are at the top of my list. Wonderful!! I am so glad you did this version, thank you! I love your reactions to (classical) music, you are an expert!
Thank you! Love the explanations. Can't believe you haven't done Floor Jansen - Puccini: O mio babbino caro. A room mic only for us, the audience was listening unamplified. Pure technique.
Hi, just using this as a messenger... yes this performance is stunning; but i implore you to hear Diana Ankudinova's cover of "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You"... a new dimension of awesome, even for her! Love your work :)
It appears that you haven't reacted to Floor Jansen singing "O mio babbino caro" yet so here is a link : ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html And speaking of bringing classic music to younger audience, there is another dutch show called podium Witteman in which Anneke van Giersbergen performed a modernized version of "when I'm laid in earth". ua-cam.com/video/GReAuHUcRAI/v-deo.html
Metal resembles opera in many ways, a lot more than you might think. Listen to the end of “Ghost Love Score”, it’s just like the end of the “Liebestod “ from Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde”. There are so many good musicians in all genres, and a lot of them started off and/or listen to all kinds of other music both for enjoyment and inspiration. Lockdown and UA-cam has made me discover all sorts you will never hear on the radio!
Metal fans tend to follow any music have a broad and varied list of different styles of music also delve into poetry other arts lot of metal music is influenced by poetry legends and other stuff and end up checking out the origins of it for example too tame the land iron maiden Frank Herbert dune poet and pendulum nightwish pit and the pendulum Edgar Alan Poe also metal tends to educate historic events as well in songs it is why I love metal in its many forms 😀
There was a comment in the live chat from UltraYahooify about "Der Hölle Rache" from The Magic Flute-Die Zauberflöte, being few songs more metal than Der Hölle Rache. It's been awhile I heard it so I had to refresh my memory and I stumbled on a few videos and the first one was impressive (Diana Damrau, The Royal Opera), the second one was so-so, but the third one was sung by Patricia Petibon. I was blown away by the power, the anger, it was like a storm passing by. The best performance I ever heard. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/CodvdRTX8zo/v-deo.html
It's just the first verse, but I think the whole piece might have been a bit to much even for a well mannered metal crowd. 😉 Most metal heads I know do listen to "classical" music as well, my "go to" is Bach, and other baroque maestros.
Christi, I think you'll find that a lot of metal heads are into classical music as well. Growing up, my musical collection contained the "3 Bs", Bach, Beethoven, and Black Sabbath. My 8 track collection (anyone remember those) included the Brandenburg Concertos, along with, Sabbath, Led Zeppelin plus my proggy favourites like Yes and ELP. You need to listen to "All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World" which is an orchestral suite written by Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish. It's on the second CD of their Human:||:Nature album. Only Floor and Troy have small parts to play as on occasion we hear her soaring voice and Troy's pipes. BTW, I'd be interested in your views on Floor's contralto voice as technically this should be outside of her tessitura as a soprano, but it sure doesn't sound like it.
First Imagine the composers of the era this was written and bring them to the present what their reaction might be. What music they might have composed now. Second imagine given the talented artist we have today what music might be composed and sung tomorrow.
Hey Christi - another detail you may not be aware of, is that Simone was 3 month pregnant at the time of the concert - still she pulled it off for over 3 hours at this concert.
I love this song and they are so wonderful at performing it. I would be quite interested in your insight, that remark on at the start of your reaction that it is a duet between a soprano and an alto, yet both Simone and Floor are sopranos so I’m interested in how this plays. It is notable that Floor has a darker tone to her voice than Simone, but do you think that this quality, or Floor’s range, was a deciding factor when they decided on who would perform which part? Floor herself frequently points to some of the low notes she has to sing on certain Nightwish songs as being below her comfortable range, or, if this whole song is sung using head voice, is it easier for her to sing low?
Therion played some clasical stuff also... O Fortuna comes to mind... maybe Carmina Burana... and also have amazing original things, with a couple of operatic singers always
Floor may be the greatest vocalist of the recorded era, and Simone is a superstar in her own right. Thank you for reviewing this, it gets far too little attention.
Your observations are priceless!! thak you .
You are kind to say that. Thank you for watching!

@@christophschmedes5975 mmh, nö. Der Romeo und Julia part ist von Johanna(Tuomas Frau, höre Auri), ich meine das Laudato Si Ad Astra. Das ist Floor.
I can imagine that if Beethoven were somehow reborn in our time that he might very well be into symphonic metal
Lovely. .. Floortje 😀😀😀If you put 'tje' behind a name, it's a form of love and appreciation for each other. .. 2 very good friends 😄😄😄😄😄😄
It is also "little Floor", while Floor is about 15 cms (6 inches) taller than she is.
Just beautiful.
Very enjoyable
So beautiful! ❤
Dank je wel Floortje 🥰
My favorite music! By Epica!! Love it....❤️❤️🌷🌷🙏🏻
Can’t wait!
Some may find this fanciful but I know many classical trained musicians that tend to agree, food for thought!!
yepp.i says this 2 years ago.you are beautefull.thanks you see this.
The original key, or at least the key in the Eulenburg edition, is C minor (3 flats). IMSLP lists it as F minor, though.... mileage appears to vary
It is a beautiful song.
Thanks great reaction ! these ladies don,t get enough appreciation !!!
Thank you for this, Christi. It is a beautiful
A lot of classical music is metal before electronics. But Epica fans are used to getting all kinds of music, so no surprise they appreciate.
We knew these ladies wouldn't disappoint you (how dare they 😉). More classical from Floor (Puccini's *_"O mio babbino caro"_* ) also in a Dutch (2013) tv-show about classical music called "De tiende van Tijl" (the 10th of Tijl):
song only: ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AVROTROSKlassiek
song + small interview with Floor (Eng. subs, marked as Dutch?): ua-cam.com/video/Od_qcbw3f5Q/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LLSPhotography
I don't know where in the concert this happened, but this song could well be a moment of respite between all the metal intensity :)
Just clicked the reminder on .. just re-watched Mike and Ginger react to this
Wonderful to hear 'The Passion of Christi'.
Thank you!
Love the explanations.
Can't believe you haven't done Floor Jansen - Puccini: O mio babbino caro.
A room mic only for us, the audience was listening unamplified. Pure technique.
Great reaction, Simone and Floor amazing voices.
Hi, just using this as a messenger... yes this performance is stunning; but i implore you to hear Diana Ankudinova's cover of "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You"... a new dimension of awesome, even for her! Love your work :)
It appears that you haven't reacted to Floor Jansen singing "O mio babbino caro" yet so here is a link : ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html
And speaking of bringing classic music to younger audience, there is another dutch show called podium Witteman in which Anneke van Giersbergen performed a modernized version of "when I'm laid in earth". ua-cam.com/video/GReAuHUcRAI/v-deo.html
3:47 metal fans know what good music is
In time 12:39-42, is Simone counting time with right leg ??? She is so Amazing.
I Love this duet.
Thanks by this lovely react. 😃🇧🇷
Além de duas super cantoras, fenomenais, são lindas, maravilhosas em todos os sentidos.
Lockdown and UA-cam has made me discover all sorts you will never hear on the radio!
great video once again
Thanks for the visit today on the premiere!
Makes me think a lot about the Matthäus Passion. I now decided that if the circumstances are normal again I wil go see and listen again in 22.
Whaaaaaaaaaat finally!!
Simone is a Awesome Singer!!!! Please do more EPICA!!
You could have heard a pin drop while they were singing. Kudos to the audience for their appreciation
Floor looks so elegant donning the girly look. Nice dress and heels🥰. Cool seeing the crowd of metal fans encapsulated by this piece
Please react to Rainbow "Stargazer". You mentioned not having heard DIO in the previous video, i can think of no better introduction
Most metal heads I know do listen to "classical" music as well, my "go to" is Bach, and other baroque maestros.
