I'm glad you're pushing for people to start welding and fabricating. Now that there are inexpensive welders in the market, there's no excuse not to. Metal is cheap and you can learn fast. Better than paying hundreds of dollars for an aftermarket piece.
I couldn't agree more! Good fabrication tools have never been more affordable! And its very rewarding to be able to build it yourself
Probably the baddest j10 love the look of it great work Nate
Thank you!!
That intro turbo whistle gets me every time!
Very cool looking. Can’t wait to see the rear bumper you come up with
Thanks you! Lots of ideas for the rear bumper! I'm pumped to get it all this fabrication done so I can start getting this truck driving!
That bumper looks great!
Another great video. Sliders came out great. I have made a bunch of sets for my Jeeps in the past. Time in the shop is where all my worries disappear for awhile and projects like this are just a lot of fun. By the way. My JD2 model 32 is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made!
Thanks Rich! I really like mine aswell!
Nate Bleepinjeep hey, check out the Trajan Q700 / Q1400 carbide saw. I have a the Q1400 and it was worth every penny. I see a lot of cuts you’re making with the cut off disk that this would make quick work of and it leaves a real nice square edge and the metal stays cool. I never expected it to work as well as it does. Fab On!
Nate, I'm 55 and a 4x4 / Muscle Car fan. I've learned so much watching you and how you make things happen. Keep up the good work and videos.
Looks great! I like the idea of welding that plate from the backside only, nice clean look. Gets me excited about building the sliders for my full size Cherokee! Planning on cutting out the rockers on my though to tuck them up higher, but we likely have different goals for our FSJs
Thanks! Sounds like you have a fun project yourself
That J 10 is a awesome old truck !
It's called a compound miter.. good work on the build. Impressive tool list you have. Jealous of your garage space. I've build roof racks and sliders and all kinds of other projects with the cheapest harbor freight welder , bender,.. a grinder and a few magnets and sets of clamps. I had a drill press also but never had a dimple die..
I decided i wanted to get into fab work in order to do stuff like this. I work at a structural steel fabrication shop and its basically this on steroids! When 1/4 inch plate looks like sheet metal lol. Another great video Nate!
Thanks man! Sounds like my kind of place!
@@natebleepinjeep9564 Yeah youd probably like it! We do everything from bridge work to public transportation shelters at train stations and bus stops. I gotta say i love what i do!
I’m not sure what it is but I love your videos Nate. The shots you get are great and the information itself is extremely helpful. Keep it up!
Thanks Taylor! I appreciate the positive comment bro
you are a awesome fabricator, we LOVE getho ass techniques since most of us are in the same situation, really like it
Thanks man!
A little over a year ago I took the plunge and looked on one of those FaceBook Market Place pages and found a guy selling a "new in the box" Cornwell Tools welder for $425. I looked it up and the darn thing normally sells for almost $900 so I rushed right over to have a look at it and sure enough. It was still sealed in the box and never been used. So I offered him $400 cash and I walked away with a great machine. I then watched every MIG welding video n YT and then went out the garage and melted metal to metal practicing on silly things and small bits of scrap steel before I bought real stuff to hang on the Jeep.
Since then I have built and added so much cool stuff to my XJ. Front and rear bumpers, mid-frame stiffeners, rock sliders, rear tire carrier and the latest is a roof rack system.
I love to fabricate stuff. I could use a few more cool tools like a bender and I would love to have a plasma cutter, but I'm getting by with the stuff I've got and only having so much garage space, its getting a bit tight in there.
Yesterday my son and I took our XJ out for a bit of mountain fun. We went shooting to test out his new M&P9 and the target holder system I welded up for him. I found a 10'x10'x1" plate at the metal surplus yard that would be a perfect target. And then we took the XJ up a trail that he wanted to explore. It was a nice challenge as it was fairly rocky and snow covered in spots. we climbed up to about 8500ft elevation and then decided that because we were alone and had no winch (still need to get that too) and it was getting late in the day, that we should probably turn around before we get ourselves into trouble as the trail was getting steeper, more rocky and deeper snow.
Anyhow, great video Nate! Love your stuff and this build. The J10 is getting better and better each time we see it! Thanks for the content!
Thanks Chas! A welder is a very important tool. The amount of satisfaction you get from building projects yourself is so valuable! It sounds like you got a sweet deal. I'm glad you hear your enjoying the videos!
Really like those sliders! I'm older and my truck sit a bit higher so I was leaning towards those flip style sliders Metal Cloak has for the Jl/JK. I figured it would help my wife & I getting in, also allow the granddaughter to climb in by herself. I popped for a low buck mig to get the basic of welding and found my youngest (at the time ) had the talent. I went out again a bought a low buck plasma cutter and watched all my sheet metal get cut up in the boys projects. Your right about jumping in and keeping cost low. We run our equip off of our big genny so Mom doesn't get a $$ surprise. LOL
Very well done. Matches the bumper really well.
Thanks George!
I need to get a welder of my own so I can do some more welding and learning to fabricate. Just need money first. Those turned out great!!!
I got one I would give you if you want man, its a basic mig welder, gas or gasless.
Matt Clark that would be awesome man are you sure?
@@TheBeardedJeeper Im not using it, its all yours
Matt Clark you rock thank you
The Bearded Jeeper invest in a 220 volt model and gas from the beginning. You’ll thank me.
HOLY SEA BISCUITS!! I LOVE WHAT UR DOIN!
Lol thanks man!
I always like your vids on this channel, Nate. You’re probably the most into fab, which always cool to watch!
Thanks! I'm glad your liking the content!
I'm happy to see that fsj back. I have been wanting to make some sliders for my wagoneer and now I think I'm going to do it. They looked pretty good. Nice job!
Thanks Eric! I hope this video will help you in some way with your slider project
They turned out great. Top job!
Thank you Kev!
You are a craftsman Nate !! You have mad skills my friend !!
Thanks man! I really appreciate it
What a cool looking truck!
Subtle, I like how it looks almost as if it came on the Jeep stock, but then you notice your personal touch.
Thanks! My thoughts exactly
The fabrication series has a really good tutorial on bending tubing it’s really helpful with the beginner bender
Those are awesome! Very nice work.
Thanks Grant!
Nice work. Looks sweet.
Look nice man.
Thanks!
Pretty slick
Thanks!
Awesome work Jake, Thanks for putting these out!
Wow 33... I remember when I was your age 3 years ago. Lol good call on ditching the old man step idea. If nothing else it will make you feel better about yourself. Sliders are awesome. Keep it up man!!!
Awesome job. Looks great.
great looking rock sliders
Great work really enjoy watching it ❤
Those look great man. You did a good job!
I appreciate it John!
Hell yes brother was just thinking the other day it’s been awhile since a video on my favorite UA-cam has dropped then boom here it is! Keep the the killer work
Thanks for the positive comment Dan! I appreciate it man
I’d love to have that old jeep
Looks great. Nice job!
Thanks!!
they look great and 2x4's are a method of measurement in my shop too.
Thanks man! Lol glad to hear I'm not the only one
You just gave me the design that I think will look good on my Trailduster.
I love this build, thanks for sharing! I would have built the old man step now days.
Looks great, awesome job. Think I'll throw some on my commander when the bumpers a finished.💪👏
I like your SWAG method. "Scientific Wide A** Guess" We used the same when making roll cages for stunt cars and trucks. Good Work. PS I like your shop space.
Looking good. FSJ!
Thanks!
Great job!
Thanks!
nicely done!!👍
Really enjoy your video's. Nice sliders but not sure about those old man cracks, Lol, old guys like to have fun to. whats up with the CJ in the back ground, looks pretty clean. Keep up the video's and this old guy will keep watching.
Thanks! I'm glad your liking the content. It's a 1960 CJ that I picked up for a really good deal. I haven't decided what to do with it yet so it's just a shop decoration for now!
Yeeeeees! Finally more J10 content!!
Yes, love this build. Not a fan of Matt's JL stuff.
Anyone else catch the Bender sticker at 6:19? Love this build!
I don't know what we'd do without bleepinJeep-Nate...I'd love to be help for you for a day. Would be fun to fabricate with ya!
Liked the sliders a lot. Something I noticed is that you welded the flat bar on the bottom of the tube, I guess I was expecting it to be on the top like in a step. So, with the extremes bent up and the dimples protruding up, isn't it goint to retain watter, mud, snow? No place to drain is what I am thinking, I guess. Love the built, cheers from Brazil.
There is a small gap between the plate and the tube that water and what not can drain through. But yes some rocks and stuff will get caught in there. Thanks for watching!
Good tips on angle with table
Thanks! I hope its useful to you one day
Looks good, I would buy them.
The truck looks awesome even if she has some body damage and rust
slik great job
Awesome video man. I'm getting my stuff for my g5ranger
Must be nice to have a warehouse sized shop.
Looks like some nice welding magnets would help with the holding.
dAmn i lOve this build
I wouldn't want to clean the mud, sand, salt, etc. out of those with that plate on the bottom, but nice work Nate in a short amount of time...they do look good!
I though that as well, love the look but some half circles at the base of the plate would allow debris to wash out.
Don't tell Matt, but i think your videos are better, Nate!
Great Work!!!
Nice setup, but I myself, to keep my side panels vertically straight and not wavy, place a tube farther out than the flare. Think of a ramp to allow the stump. rock face, tree to slide along then get into the tire sort of thing.
As for the dimples, great to place under body/floor lights for that road glitter....or rock lights.
Nate sure does bring some skill to this channel....just saying...
Thanks Dan!
still looks like they will work out nice
Nice design. Maybe an inch farther away from the lower rocker so debris doesn't get caught between the rail the and the body. Front bumper looks great.
Tradeoffs.
It is relative.. larger gap can also mean larger debris.
How about cutting half way through the plate then bend it and go over it with a bead of weld.? Anyway looks good
perfect job .... I relay like it
I built some bolt on rails for my JK, would have loved to use a dimple die for mine!
A dimple die is a great to to have in your arsenal! They aren't very expensive and well worth the investment
These came out great man! Wish I had the space to work like this. Have all these tools besides a brake and a pipe bender! I want to do this to my toyota pickup
Jursaw my shop doesn’t have a brake either. What we do is we cut the strip to length and cut a slot where the bend is going to be leaving about a inch from the end of the cut to the end of the metal. That way you can basically bend it with your hands. It makes it way easy to get the bend exact. Then we run a bead over the slot we cut to hold the angle. Another tip would be using crescent wrench’s to grab on the Metal for more leverage when bending it
Bridger Johnson Johnson I can see how that would work well
built 2x6 and tube sliders for my WJ (cut out the rockers), nothing but a welder and an angle grinder...
Nice!
@@natebleepinjeep9564 yeah...looked at the cheap jeep series for some tips too!
Anyone can build these. After they get a bender, press, welder, and dimple dies.
If you can do without the dimples you can just buy pre bent tubing from roll cage kits and weld together.
You might be surprised what you can build without all of the expensive tools.
I build without all those tools (except the welder) all the time. Not to say I wouldn’t use a bender if I had one. I was just commenting on the title of this video. Not just anyone can build these. Anyone with all these tools can.
@@SWBCrawler If your going to go down that path then your also saying that he was derogatory against blind people or handicapped people. What he meant was you don't have to be a fabricator to build these, buy a few harbor freight tools and you can start fabbing up bumpers and sliders and what not. He wasn't literally saying any human being on planet earth can build rock sliders.
yep, just like anybody can go to space....if they own a rocket...bottomless pockets etc
Magnets are your friend my friend
SO SWEET!!!
Nice work.
My only question is have you thought about the articulation of the frame when you're wheeling? I've seen some trucks flex when going over obstacles the bed moves separate from the cab.
I think it turned out really good, and the dimples add a nice lil touch. For those of us that have a unibody, do you think we need to add frame stiffeners before adding rock rails?
I personally would add stiffeners but I know that there is multiple schools of thought on this. I would want to make sure I don't end up with something that's hard to repair because I ripped holes through the unibody.
@@natebleepinjeep9564 thanks, Nate. I appreciate your response and your honest opinion.
Anyone else want to see that CJ5 get freshened up? New rubber, any needed rust repair, holley sniper efi upgrade if it's a 258, ect.
I want to see that!!!
If you don't fill the tire of that CJ up, I'm gonna road trip over there and do it for you...
Lol I love this
One of my favorite builds on UA-cam! Whose dimple dyes are you using? Whose Metal brake please? Im.looking at the Harbor Freight brake at the moment. Great job on the bumpers and sliders!
It's a brake from harbor freight. And the dimple dies are from ebay!!
So...you never did tell how you drilled the frame for the top holes on the brackets! And about that why not weld the brackets to the frame? Is bolting a stronger method or is it just so you can take them off later? Thanks for the videos!
Your right! I have to edit out alot in order to make the video short enough for people to watch it lol. I used a small right angle drill to drill a pilot hole from the outside. Then I drilled it full size from the inside of the frame. I dont usually weld this kind of thing to the vehicle. I like to have easy removal in the future!
This is the best project on the channel. Great job! Any particular reason you left the 2x2 the length you did? I thought from the beginning that it would look nice just a little longer with a taper at the front and rear corners. Regardless they came out great!
You don't need a helper...you need some magnets! ;-)
Lol yes I do. The magnets I have aren't very strong. I would use magnets alot more if I had some that weren't from harbor freight
Seeing that you didn't paint the bumper or the headache rack I think what you should do is let the raw metal rust a little bit and then clear coat it to match the persona of the truck and the same with when you do the rear bumper
I like this idea and I have considered it. I'm not sure what my plan is for paint yet. I keep going back and forth
You should check out Colinfurze video on his homemade break. Really solid build
Thanks I will!
Can you teach us how to do a cheap way to do major rust repair? Cheap but right
Not a bad idea! It wont be for awhile unfortunately, I have many videos and projects that will need to come first
@@natebleepinjeep9564 cant wait to see what you do next!
That was great thanks
How about a set of m715 Kaiser fender flares ...being the same truck and all. Great project by the way
The old man step will probably help getting to the roof rack if you ever add one..
Not that it matters but I’m more of a stick welder probably more expensive idk but mig welding is great as well
He’s got Bender on his bender 😂
Thinking about buying a JD2 bender. What size and radius dies do you recommend getting? I'd like to choose wisely since theyre not cheap
I have a 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" I can't remember the radius. 5" I think
nothing wrong with a little hangover
Awesome em r nice 👍🏻🇺🇸💯
Looks good, I'd be hard pressed not to dd that truck. What's your gear ratio in that? You planning to be able to run down the highway.
Thanks! I'm not sure on the ratios. I will be opening up the diffs to find out soon. I will definitely be planning on driving this on the freeway
your shop would be closer to complete if you had a lift.... I would kill for a lift
Supper!
What are you using for cutting fluid/paste on the drill press?
nice vid. thanks. i think i will attempt to make my own for my xj. got to beat paying 400 for one. i can spend 400 on tools instead.
Nate do a shop overview, tools and uses kind of thing
You didn't say how you sorted out drilling the upper holes, could you have swapped them to the inside of the frame? J10 looking good. Don't see any here anymore (salt Ohio).
