- Homemade, Homebuilt, DIY… whatever you want to call it! We're building this bad boy 100% from scratch!
In this episode I am going to show you how I make an Offroad tire carrier capable of holding a 40" tire! Follow along with me as I go over the basic techniques to fabricate a project like this. Manifesting something from nothing is extremely rewarding and I recommend building these kinds of projects to everyone who has ever considered it.

I honestly think Nate's fab videos are my favorite thing on youtube lol
Wow man thanks! Giant compliment!
I like his because he actually fabs for the most part. I don't like the goofy new guy. Annoying.
DITTO!!! I agree, 100%.
Great project. Maybe at the end say how much time spent and cost of materials. Always useful info in DIY build vs buy. Thanks to evetyone at BJ for some of the best Jeep videos.
How is this channel not at 1 million by now?
Great job! Fantastic details. Thanks for sharing!!
Nate, every one of your videos teaches me something new. You have a natural knack for fab work. You’re a very smart guy! Thanks for taking the time to share. Your videos are some of my favorite on UA-cam.
Glad to hear my videos can help you out! Huge compliment by the way, thank you 👍
God I love that Jeep. If I had the money ide probably copy it identically.
Dude, you rock man. I just want to drop by your shop and hand you tools. Great videos, keep em coming.
The video I was secretly hoping Nate would make but didn't think would ever happen 😆😆😆
Lol thanks man! Glad I finally put it together for you guys. I've been getting requests for this for awhile now🤘
@@natebleepinjeep9564 good thing that rock smashed the hell out of your old carrier hahaha.. maybe bash those rear wrap around fenders up next would enjoy a video on how they were made
@@AndrewBrowner either that or make some for his brother's TJ and record it!
I just noticed the Bender sticker. I love it!!!
I just noticed that on this video too, it's awesome!
Bender on bender
Nice build Nate . I'm loving the construction sections of this channel . I like the way you break things down so regular Joe can understand . Crucially I don't feel like you talk down to your viewers treating them like total dumb-asses . It's also nice to hear a "professional" You Tuber (I don't know if you count yourself as a professional Nate ? No insult intended .) openly admit they don't have a skill set and there's something they can't do and need to learn . I have a feeling there maybe some "I did it this way guys and it was wrong." , "This is the way I should have done it." sections in your upcoming videos as we come along for the ride and learn new skills with you . Thanks for the hard work in creating this content . It's appreciated .

Thank you for taking the time to comment! I suppose I could considered a professional UA-camr😂. I try to to just be myself up here. I work up as good a video as my current skills allow and hope for a positive response. Glad you noticed that I'm not trying to portray myself as anything better than I am. Lots more content in the future, and I'll definitely try to include even more things that I've learned (mistakes aswell) in my upcoming videos! Glad to have you as part of the bleepinjeep community buddy👍
@@natebleepinjeep9564 Speak as I find Nate . Commenting for thirty seconds is the least I can do for the effort you put in and the knowledge I gain . I wish I could do more but sadly funds are tight and times are hard . When things get better I will certainly be throwing a couple o' bucks your way .
Keep the rubber side (mostly) down Nate (Tough with a crawler LOL) .
Thanks for taking the time to reply too .

I’m curious how you mounted the hinge points on the Jeep, if they were strong enough to hold the tire and carrier, and if there was any slop or sag in the carrier?
Me too. Are you running flat stock inside the jeep between the two hing points to reinforce? What's inside the back pillar that you can hang that much weight on?
Gusset/reinforcing the inner tub against the roll cage and the bottom against the frame?
Where did you get those bushings from, id like to get some of those instead of something like a bearing kit price wise
Looks awesome I really can’t wait to start learning to fabricate
America flag is BADASS nice work
Thanks dude👍
Great work Nate. Would like to have seen how that swings open with the tire on it. Also, you need to find a home for that shear and bolt that sucker down.
Can you show how you made the back outer fenders in aluminum and then mounted the bushing holder? that is an excellent setup and I want to do something similar.
Great video. Something to not is that dissimilar metals corrode eachother just by touching. For instance if you put steal rivets on a piece of aluminum it will rust the rivets.
Love watching you fabricate! We just got a Millermatic 252 for our shop at our heavy equipment yard. I can’t wait to learn how to use it !! I’m a little nervous and honestly intimidated a bit though. I told Matt I wanted to be the first Bleepin girl and he replied “ do it , we need one” I’m gunning for it!!! Thanks for teaching me y’all ! ❤️🐞
Right on! Glad you enjoy it! That Millermatic is supposed to be a kick ass machine! Dont be intimidated, you will pickup welding even easier than you think. It's all about hours. You just need to put some time into it and you will fall in love with creating something from nothing just like the rest of us! A bleepinjeep Lady sounds like a good idea to me 🤘
Nate Bleepinjeep - Thanks for the encouragement Nate!! If I get in a bind and need some help I know of a great fabricator that lives in Seattle. Lol 😆. ❤️🐞
@@GoatOffroad yes you do!
Love it man. Any ideas for a 2006 WK ? (I know, not a wrangler). Would love your recommendations or a video. Thanks ! 🇺🇸
I love those WKs. If I had one it would be the crd of course lol with an overlander themed build. A reasonable size (33s probably) with tube everywhere! Tube bumpers, sliders, roof rack, the works! And a well designed skid can completely change the capability of any rig! Needs to be able to slide over rocks 🤘
I love that you use dimple die as much as you can😁😁!! The carrier looks great!!!
I've been wanting to do this to my WJ in the future. Now all I have to do is learn how to weld. Cool video thanks.
No prob man! Thanks for watching
As a fabricator by trade and hobby I enjoy your videos. Don't have a jeep anymore, but still like watching bleepinjeep videos. 👍
Awesome man! Glad to have you as a part of our community 🤘
Can always build up the gashes with the spool gun grind them flat then repaint
Nate don't forget to use anti seize on stainless hard ware to prevent cold welding. Stainless on stainless can be a pain to get off after it cold welds it self. Also very nice and clean work as always.
Where is the stainless on stainless?
I would be more worried about the strength of stainless. Somewhere between grade 2 and grade 5 on a rig that takes that many hits with a wheel that heavy.
Knew there'd be dimple dies
Lol absolutely!
Has that black stripe always been on the side of the J10 or is that new?
I did the stripes when I repainted the grill. Little unassuming touches aren't always noticed at first lol
Damn spot on and great craftsmanship
18:37 shouldn't have changed your mind mid sentence to using band saw. I really would have enjoyed seeing you do that cut with a portabella mushroom.
ZuluComander lmfao
Lol it was going to say portaband but I like portabella mushroom better!😂
Nice Brake machine. Interesting method to adapt welding the parts together on the floor w/ chalk lines. I know a frame repair guy who does the same when he is straightening chassis/frames on damaged vehicles. Looking forward to your review on that Miller Welder and more about your welding skills as they improve with "Alu minum" !
Chalkline ?? Seriously are you using your carpentry skills or frabricating skills im confused lol im jk hoss good work keep it up
Chalklines have been used in every field for centuries.
Thanks man! I use anything I can get hands on to make the job easier!
Got to love those bed frames
Nate, that is awesome! I've been wanting to do something similar, but am not really sure how to best support it structurally. I would love to see how you did the attachment points, surely it's more than just what is external to the Jeep. There has to be some internal support as well? Great job, and keep it up. I'll be coming back to this video for sure!
😋😀😀😁😋😁😁😁

Linear expansion (metal expanding or contracting) is a legitimate fear to have. I've tested a metal rod expanding a couple mm after being set in hot water for 10 minutes. After sometime it went back to it's original state.
yep for sure, especially in welding things can really pull and twist and pop even when youre being cautious of it.. i think nate had the concept for controlling it a little back wards though, should take on as many pieces/supports as possible then finish weld everything while jumping around to different pieces(dont weld left to right or top to bottom on the entire piece) also letting it cool overnight doesnt really change the end product when pulling it off the temp frame as it cools itll build tensions in the metal and when you undo the tac welds itll spring in or out some no helping that but if welded properly little to no change should occur
Nice Nate! I'd like to get a tubing bender at some point because I think it definitely takes making things to the next level. Nice layout and design on your carrier. I always look forward to your fab videos. I also like your Multimatic 220. I just bought a Multimatic 215 and love it!
I didn't take the time to fish through all the comments... But why not mount your license plate up high where your american flag is? "Then where would I put the flag!?"
It's nice to see different people's way of fabricating things. It gives you more ideas to work with on your own projects!
I love your shop!! Makes me want to get out there and get my Jeep together! I’m filming too!! Inspiring stuff man you got skills!
Bro, I need this tire carrier in the worst way. Do you sell these??
I was about to ask the same thing
I like this idea. However, you wouldn't be able to mount anything like Off Road In Mind's recovery gear box, for example. What are your thoughts on mounting things like this to the back of your tire? Assuming the tire carrier can bear the weight, of course.
So that’s you who invented that body mount spare tire carrier. Awesome man!
Would you mind inventing one for Toyota SUVs please like 4runner and Sequoia.
Yo Nate when are you guys going to get the Moab videos up? I'm the guy from the silver LJ that ran into you guys on Kane Creek. Pretty much ran behind your group the entire day until the traffic jam on Hamburger Hill got cleared up.
No it's not a false fear. The craziest thing I've ever seen is putting a ten foot 1/4" square tubing in a vice about 6 inches from the end. Take a oxy act torch light it and just brush the flame across that 6 inch end and watch the rest of that ten foot piece dance. It shows just how much metal is affected by heat if you don't have good tacks holding it in place and weld it by skipping around. Nice job.
Looks amazing as always with your fabrication work definitely no corners cutting in your products.
I said it once and I’ll say it again, awesome fab work Nate! Quick question though. How do you like the maxxis razr tires? I was looking at those for my TJ
These have been fantastic so far! I'm going to put together a tire review very soon.
Where do you get your tubing? I can’t seem to find anyone that sells raw metals near me
Should have put old glory up top in the opening, made out of aluminum of course. Not sure why you wouldn’t put your plate where the flag is now. It wouldn’t get banged up. Otherwise, beautiful. Come hang in spokompton on the east side. I’ll find ya some places to wheel.
No, you ring my bell! 😁
Very nice and solid construction, would be cool to see it opened and tire taken out, just too see the full functionality...
Even though we know how it vurks.
Lol glad I'm ringing somebody's 😂
I love your videos I have a xj and would love to put a Diesel in it lol keep up the good videos
Thanks man! Diesel swaps are expensive but very worth while!
How did u bolt the brackets to the jeep just on the sheet metal? Did u add something on the back to help support the weight? Your tire carrier came out bad ass!
automatic thumbs up for Bender B. Rodriguez
Lol thanks man👍
Nate Bleepinjeep I’m to videotape the hole process of me swapping it in tj.
I learned that your tags are 2014 but you’re wearing a 2016 Moab shirt
About how much steel was used for this project in length? Trying to get a rough estimate for this project in the future. Thanks!
been trying to get what I need for this build, but cant for nothing find the bushings and hinges, anybody know where to find any? planning on using 3/4 c- channel iron for mounts so need a bushing that would work for that
What do you do for the third brake light? I put a cheapy LED bar type one (along with a backup camera) on my DV8 tire carrier that mounts basically exactly the same. So, had to run the wires thru the tube on the hinge side with an external service loop to navigate the hinge. I think it works pretty good, but I'd be interested to see what you come up with. I really enjoy your videos.
I've never messed around with the third brake light. I pretty much only drive it on the street when I'm in Moab Utah and if I was getting pulled over up here it wouldn't be for the brake light lol
Looking to build one of these for myself soon because my bumper tire carrier combo suckkkkssss. Awesome buld as usually nate!
Build one! Lots of design options out there and you save tons of money building this kind if stuff yourself
This was awesome to watch Nate! I'm a welder, and a light offroader, and you did a great job fabricating! And keep practicing Aluminum and steel TIG welding. You'll get it for sure. Awesome work.
Thank you! I've got alot of practice ahead of me but I'm very excited to finally build this skill. It is something that I've wanted to learn for along time!
Could you provide a parts list so we can build this greatness
i was about to ask this as well, ubshing etc tube size etc...
Did you make the front bumper on the blue Wrangler in the video. If you did. Did you film that build
Im trying to find cheap gusset press dies but everywhere i look theyre hundreds of bucks.
how thick is the armor on the quarter panel?
1/4"
Nice job. Looks great
Thanks!
What about when you hit something it will smash all the body work not practical but does look amazing tho
I think u should just ditch the carrier. Idk about you but seems like I’m always hitting mine of stuff
I'm seriously considering it
Now that's a Bleepin' Jeep Video!
I rea;;y like you fabrication videos Nate. Thanks!
Thank you!
That's pretty slick. It looks great on the Jeep. Thanks for putting together the video.
Thanks for watching! I'm happy to put it together for you guys
The Bender cartoon on your bender is awesome! LOL :D
Lol thanks man!
Can your old one be repaired? Can you make me one I'll pay? 2000 jeep TJ.
I finally found it. Looked all through DL for this. Forgot it was that long ago.
Do you have a part number or link on those red bushings?
Jeep TJ leaf spring bushings. They fit perfect into 2" dom. 🤘
Nate Bleepinjeep YJ
I know this is an older video, but damn that's a good looking tire carrier! I'll have to steal some design elements for sure.
You killed that brother. Make me feel very inferior with my fab skills but that’s alright haha.
Lol thanks man! 👍 glad you enjoyed it
I would have liked to see you swing the tire rack open to see how it functions.
This is amazing now I just need to find someone in ky that can do this lol
Love watching you be creative with metal fabrication, makes me want to learn to weld so bad.
Easy to learn a mig! First step, get a welder! You won't look back and think I shouldn't have learned another skill!
How hard will it be to fabricate a slanted tire carrier?
Thanks in advance
I ❤️ Floyd Equipment /Interwest Metals. Have you experimented with low temp aluminum brazing rods? I’m seeing them advertised a lot.
Not yet but I would like too! I've been very curious about those aswell
I’m going to pick up some on Amazon and experiment with them. If they pass the test they will go into my dual sport motorcycle tool kit. Way cheaper than an AC/DC tig welder.
what happens when you get rear ended? does the body bend and squash your rims?
this is great and all, but would be more helpful if it was something built for us who do not have heavily modified jeeps with full shop like you, but something closer to aftermarket steel bumper tire carrier mod..thing
I'm trying to figure out how to put a tire carrier on a Jeep Cherokee xj
Very nicely done. Looks like one you would buy for hundreds of dollars.
You're a great builder, enjoy what you build. Keep up the great work
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment
tags are expired.... or this is a really old video haha
That looks badass!
Thanks!
Love the video Nate. I am also wanting to build one of these! Prolly do a similar set up. I may check into the aluminum tubing to cut weight myself. Thanks again and keep them coming.
Glad you enjoyed it! Aluminum is a sweet way to go. The performance of having a light weight trail rig can be beat!
@@natebleepinjeep9564 where do you get your bushing? Aluminum may be harder to find.
@@phu1324 it's a tj leaf spring bushing kit from 4wheel parts. Runs about 20 bucks. 2"dom works perfect for the sleeve 🤘
@@natebleepinjeep9564 sweet thanks!
Turned out great man. I'm sure you're aware, but I thought I'd mention it just in case you're not - you said a couple times aluminum is nice because it doesn't rust. It will corrode though, if left exposed to the elements, in a bunch of different ways. And if left untreated, can be pretty catastrophic to a part. But again, nice work on the tire carrier - it looks awesome.
Cool video! How strong are the brackets to the body?
Can you make a video on how to fab your own cargo rack for the rear cargo area of Jeep
That's a really heavy tire mounted to aluminum? I question the integrity of that approach. I hate to be Debbie Downer here but aluminum does not do well with continued vibration and shock load that you get off road. I suppose time will tell but bumper mount is well tested, especially for a tire that size.
Make can you do a video that covers more about the bushings
What happened to you on bleepin jeep?
Your tire carriers are so beautiful
I appreciate it man!
best bleepin jeep video to date imo.. usually i everything the videos cover is pretty basically or i already know but this one gave me a whole new method of fabrication thats just a bit different than my current ways and will inspire some new creations
also where do you buy the bushings/sleeves at a reasonable price?
Thanks man! I get these bushings at 4wheel parts for about 20 buck for a set of 4. They are yj leafspring bushings🤘
@@natebleepinjeep9564 thanks! is there a specific size pin/tubing you buy to go with the bushings? dont have a lathe but would like to make pivot points with less slop
@@AndrewBrowner the bushings come with the sleeve. If you Google yj leaf spring bushing you should see what I'm talking about 👍
Thank you sir. Quality work here
Nice fab work!!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Awesome build Nate 😊 you have some amazing skills dude 😊
I appreciate the kind words🤘 I'm glad your enjoying the content
You do good work on bending. Really like the tire carrier.
Thanks!
Very cool. I'm planning a similar build so your video is exactly what I needed. Are your mount points tied into the cage or just body mounted?
Man that looks professional!!! The summer project’s I am thinking of 😁
Where did you get the bushings and sleeves for this?
