The atmosphere, the art direction and graphics, the really good brilliant voice acting, the awesome cartoon intro, the humor too.... this game is a gem and it ranks pretty high on my nostalgia list.
They had very high expectations of gamers intellect back then!

Shame LucasArts was shut down by Disney after they took over the company. There was even a Mandalorian game in development at the time (it showed the detailed origins of Boba Fett), parts of that game ended up in The Mandalorian TV show.

Holy shit, I must have played this when I was two or three years old! It's like this really strong, vague nostalgia and I can recall a few bits, like the hanging off the door, the explosion at the start, and the subway tunnels. (That's how I found this game, no spoilers please) I forgot about it for many years! damn!
Now I'll find the windows 7 desktop game with the toxic waste barrels, and the 3d adventure game set in a classical/ancient-style city in the clouds where if you die, you die.
(it explains where my sort of aesthetic preferences come from though, and why I had dreams and stuff about subways and explosions before I knew what they even were.)

The original creator Dave Cummins, who wrote the script, characters and music and was responsible for the games humour had no involvement in it though. He passed away.
The sequel isn't really a proper BASS sequel without him. He already had the concept of the 2nd game's plot written out back in early 2000s, but since he and Revolution didn't get along, it never got made.
Beyond a Steel Sky pisses all over his legacy.

I am glad they made a sequal. Broken Sword is my favorite series but Beneath a Steel Sky is def fun too

Just discovered Beyond A Steel Sky and absolutely love it. Would've loved this game too had I known about it. Reminds me a ton of Maniac Mansion which has always been one of my favorite classic games. Such a neat world to explore! Love this one and the sequel! ❤

42:07 missing that tiny pixel of putty had stalled my progress in the game for ages. It wasn’t until Amiga Format did a walkthrough (in many parts) that I could finally figure what I was missing - dang Amiga and its 32 colours…

I still have all those in a box in a loft somewhere. Shows how far technology has advanced, the CD version (with the voices) takes up just 65MB on a Micro SD card now (the cut scenes & audio are compressed), which you can play on your smartphone using SCUMM VM.

Not until 1:53:00 it is. But yes, what a shame, it's not really watchable or should I say "listenable", the voice acting is a huge part of the game. Thankfully it syncs back correctly from around 2:24:13

They might of meant something important, or they just wanted to highlight puns the characters made

The remake popped up on Apple Arcade so I tried it out and... they changed everything for worse. I'd rather get SCUMM VM running on iOS than play that new, revised garbage.
