I find it curious how Mortal Kombat caused a moral panic over its gory fatalities, yet Prince of Persia with its bloody death traps in most ports got away scott-free from the controversy.
It was much MUCH less mainstream. Not nearly as many kids had these old model computers compared to the ones that went to an arcade or owned a Sega. More parents saw it, which created the panic.
Because the SNES version is a much bigger game with more levels and even the old levels are shuffled around a bit in layout. So that means more traps! =D
snes version have two traps and two death animations that got removed: A blade that cut you head from wall (like pop2, but pop2 cut in half), got replaced by the wood trap (level 17) and a trap that impale the prince, replaced by stars in level 18.
The Super Nintendo had a great aesthetic to it. The only thing holding it back was how they censored the deaths by having the corpse fade out and no blood.

Sadly you missed that a different longer death jingle plays if you die to a guard while you have your sword out. I don't know about the other versions, but this is true for at least the DOS and the Macinosh versions.

Excellent job! I know it's a ton of work but it would be awesome if you could add at the end of this videos a side by side selection of systems as you shortly do for the intro. In this case, for example, it could be one of 8 bits, one of 16, etc., and show one of the deaths (entirely) in a side by side edit, similar to the intro, but one of the deaths fully, with the selection of systems at the same time, as a "wrapping up things" at the end. Just a thought. Great work anyway!

For Prince of Persia Classic, I think it would have been better to include the PS3 and XB360 versions separately instead of letting the PS3 represent them both. If you compare the two, you can see that the XB360 version has better lighting and shadows; in any case, it’s a more significant difference than the Game Gear and Master System versions lol
Oh, I thought they were exactly the same, sorry
@@retrosutra The differences are too insignificant to separate imo
Prince of Persia, the character with the most design changes in all of gaming
Not as many as Roland, who was intended to be the mascot for the Amstrad 8-bit computer range. Is he a teenage boy with spikey hair? Is he a flea? Is he a white square with legs?
Man, Prince of Persia Classic is one of those games I always keep in my heart cuz of how unknown they are, played for the first time the SNES version with 8 yo, sadly it was emulated through a SNES emulation disk for the Ps2, but still enjoyed it, later on my teens years on PC I tried to emulate some of other versions to compare and well, replay that game in other way, big was my sueprise seeing the SNES version was...not "superior" but highly different, ¡but for good!, kind of making me proud of introducing myself onto that game with the SNES ver. and made me appreciate more the work Konami did on Nintendo with this game.
Now, I have seen lot of this type of videos, Im pretty surprised seeing SEGA CD there and GB versions!! Didn't knew bout their existance, ¡¡thanks!! Now I have some games to try theese holydays, must give a try to those versions, aside of course the Sega CD by being more powerful, ¿wich version do you recomend me to try? The OG Game Boy or the Game Boy Colour? ¿There are significant differences or it dosen't matter that much?
Amazing video btw, ❤ long live the Prince of Persia.
PS: I would love to get the mobile ver but don't know where or how to search for it :'v.
Let me guess. That CD was snes station?
@@manuelrodriguez3166 YES, the best thing I could have had on my childhood
All of the classics versions feels wrong to me by using the sand of time imagery, i don't know why.
I remember playing the flash version of this and not even being able to beat the first level
Even the Apple 2 one was brutal.
Companies today complaining about 4 versions....
Thanks! Now I can't remember which version I played on my childhood
