Lyrics: I wish I could say something To make you understand I wish I could get through to you For just a minute or two It’s really very simple I want your body now I’ll get to know you later We’ll work it out somehow And I need you tonight And I need you tonight And I need you tonight And I need you tonight It’s elementary physics It’s simple chemistry It doesn’t take computers To know what you mean to me It’s popular mechanics That keeps me up at night It’s all those pumps and pulleys That makes me long for you by my side If you would just believe me If you would just give in Are motives so important anyhow? If I could only speak my mind Without you running away If I could just convince you please to stay And I need you tonight And I need you tonight And I need you tonight And I need you tonight It’s really very simple I want your body now I’ll get to know you later We’ll work it out somehow It’s elementary physics Beginner calculus First term biology What will become of you and me? If you would just believe me If you would just give in Are motives so important anyhow? If I could only speak my mind Without you running away If I could just convince you please to stay And I need you tonight And I need you tonight And I need you tonight And I need you tonight
when I was in my teens and into boingo some sweet russian Boingo fan painstakingly emailed me all of these weird b-sides etc. it took us like a month, now they're just on youtube for everyone. I'm so chuffed it's so glorious having boingo lovers and potential new fans can actually access their discog. people like you and my old russian mate are doing gods work. thank you kings amongst men
I realllyy love the use of more industrial instrumentation and syncopation in this. It all feels so sinister, but also compelling and sexy. I'm a sucker for industrial style music, but still. This is one song that I just cannot put down!
It makes me think of Mad Scientists with suggestively erotic (though most likely more disturbing) lyrics. Like the guy practicing Elementary Physics and Chemistry is working on some Cronenberg-type shit, with flies and telepads; with Frankensteinean vivisection and brain transplants and tin-foil mind-control; with malevolent AI and cybernetic augments. Basically, stock science-fiction tropes and imagery, about some community college kid or med-school misfit creating monsters or f***ing with the laws of nature, science, and reality.
Danny Elfman did radiation experiments when he was a kid. Injecting radioactive isotopes into fruit flies, building Geiger counters, that kind of thing.
Unfortunately it was confirmed that at least one of the rough mix tapes (containing multiple songs) is lost but was confirmed the only studio outtake was Better Luck Next Time. From the demos, clues point towards I Stand Defeated, Two Twisted Trees, Lap of Luxury and Little Guns being demo'd for NTF but only Elementary Physics ever surfaced back then. It was oddly the one album that basically nothing was bootlegged from!
I would’ve loved to hear Grey Matter, I know that may seem obvious but that was the first song that introduced me to the amazing, creative and wackiness of Oingo Boingo
Does sound more like the Good For Your Soul stuff.. sounds like the bridges the gap between those albums so interesting reading it came before Nothing to Fear.
Yeah, I originally thought this could be Good For Your Soul. But the percussions and more rockish tunes give it a Nothing To Fear sound. Especially the percussions to me since Nothing To Fear was one of the few albums they made and used their own instruments.
The heavier bass and metallic percussion also sounds more like Nothing To Fear to me. It definitely isn't from the Good For Your Soul or Only A Lad sets of demos so can only be from Nothing To Fear really.
Oingo Boingo was my favorite band in the 80s. It makes sense that many of their unreleased tracks were not released because they were lacking. But this one--I have idea why this song wasn't pursued. Tragic. Wow.
Everyone talks about trading out songs (Im also guilty of this), but why not just add unreleased songs to the album? Every single record aside from BOINGO has much more than enough room to simply fit a few extra songs in there. Most only clock in at around 40 mins, and cds can hold up to I think 117-120 mins of music on average. Anyways all this to say I think this one should've been on the album. I actually think it fits more tham BLNT.
It absolutely boggles my mind that this track and Better Luck Next Time were nixed in favour of... let's say, Whyd We Come and Reptiles and Samurai? (In my opinion) like the album could literally be perfect if that swap had been made... but nah. (Anyway this is an amazing song and I'm so grateful to you for uploading it)
Noooo! Why'd We Come and Reptiles And Samurai are 2 of my favorites...no nixxing those! I'm just now hearing this tune for the first time. I'll have to give it a few more listens for sure...
I don't know if it's just me, but this one sounds a little like "Wild Sex in the Working Class". Partially because of the lyrics, but I heard a few similarities in musical style at the beginning especially.
I would've traded it for Reptiles and Samurai or Islands. ROAT is amazing, and was the one that got me hooked on the band, so I definitely couldn't trade it.

It’s really very simple
I want your body now

To know what you mean to me
It’s popular mechanics That keeps me up at night
It’s all those pumps and pulleys
That makes me long for you by my side
If you would just believe me
If you would just give in
Are motives so important anyhow?
If I could only speak my mind
Without you running away
If I could just convince you please to stay

And I need you tonight
And I need you tonight
And I need you tonight
It’s really very simple
I want your body now
I’ll get to know you later
We’ll work it out somehow
It’s elementary physics
Beginner calculus
First term biology
What will become of you and me?
If you would just believe me
If you would just give in
Are motives so important anyhow?
If I could only speak my mind
Without you running away
If I could just convince you please to stay
And I need you tonight
And I need you tonight
And I need you tonight
And I need you tonight
IF I COULD ONLY SPEAK MY MIIIIND WITHOUT YOU RUNNING AWAYYYYYY
Reading that this song was never played in live i now wonder how many songs out there, recorded, but never resurfaced (never even played live)...
We were robbed! This song is peak Oingo Boingo! Really wish it got an official release because it absolutely deserves it.
The bass shining through at 2:25 gets me so pumped every time I cant even explain it

What a groovy bass line. 😩 a tragedy it ended up not on the album
im so fucking mad this isnt on spotify
The horns!! How dare Danny tour in 94 without them. Tee tee he!!! Peace and love! .

So basically Re-animator
elementary physics has to be one of my favourite demo songs
I really hope demos and rough mixes for rest of the Nothing To Fear tracks are gonna surface soon, it would be so amazing.

@@OingoBoingoTapes Aw thats sad to hear! Would've loved to hear rough or demo of *_Islands_* (underrated gem of NTF, imo).

Don’t get me wrong, I love Why’d We Come but if this was too replace it, I would have absolutely no problem with that.
Loving the new video format too with the block writing and custom info fonts. Very nice!
i would do unspeakable things in return for a higher quality version of this song. i need it. NEED
This demo slaps so hard
oh my god this band keeps getting better & better the more stuff I find
i start off my day with listening to this and thinking about bride of re-animator

I like the little detail you have. You know what I mean- you made the text represent the record’s cover title. Really nice thing to add I love it :D
Really happy to see these higher quality uploads, didn't think this would happen
This song is infectious. Also, are you gonna post videos of Danny's performances at Coachella? He did A LOT of Oingo Boingo songs.
Sheeeesh
I wish this could've been included as a bonus track on the CD

I don't know where you find these but keep them coming!
a fan in a discord server spoke out recently about having some stuff that we might not and we have sent these things to Boingo Tapes
@@titanicf0g I wonder how they were able to get ahold of them
@@EchoGulch64 he traded for them back around the year 2000 with people in a google groups chat
Canción sexo
Lamento mucho que esta canción nunca se haya concretado y solo haya quedado como un demo 😢

I thought the same!!
Amazing!!!
oUUGGhhhh,....
HOLY FUCK
need this song injected into my bloodstream NOW!!!
I listened to it once and now I cant listen to anything else!? What is this sorcery
Kinda wish this had been on the album instead of "Running on a Treadmill."

@@yourfairyking agreed, dannys vocals are too good to pass up on roat
to me this is the prequel (or sequel) of wild sex in the working class
