Considering they did not get on, Jean Luc treats Frank's work with respect & dignity.
Through Ponty's King Kong album I discovered Zappa and I'm a fan of both!!!
Saw JLP with Zappa in 1973. Excellent. His King Kong album is still one of my favourites.
@PIZZA I am with you on that. My 14 year old brain was musically blown that night. Nothing has been the same since then!!
Zappa the Genius....Jean-Luc Master of modern music .... ......hell of a violin player ... both Monster.....................Note: there is no one like him, at least, in the last 30 years... We really are a fortunate guys ... thank God....
I didn't think Zappa and Ponty ever made up. Nice of Ponty to do this.
Tino Rozzo I don't think they did, so yes, very good of him to put music first.
Why did they ?
Tino ~ l'm a Zappa head from years ago, and l love Ponty! l seen them both live. l never knew they were ever ticked off at each other.
@@theresa42213 Ponty wanted writing credit for solos within Frank's compositions. At the time, Frank was dead-set against it, though his attitude seemed to mellow over time.
@@ChrisMaxfieldActs ~ Yea l can see that!! He's a snobby Frenchman ....and he was GOOD! l just wonder if he gave _his_ guys credit for their solos .....Like Zavod? l mean he was AMAZING! l saw him when l was 16 ..way back in '82!!! But l guess you have to do what WAKEMAN did!! That guy ls _AH MAY ZING,_ Personable, funny, ingenious and is a real ''SHTICK MAN''!! Zappa _...EXACTLY_ the SAME!! Thats why they stick out! lf Jean would just _shutup_ he'd realize that Frank had a WAY of featuring his artists! l mean ....we all KNOW most of 'em! Like ...who in the 'Frank world' doesnt know who Ruth is, or Bobby, or, Chad??? l guess its the $$$ for some!! GOOD THING that Dweezil is such GEM! And a real softy too! Gail was a COW to her first born son! lt really upset him! He cried on radio in front of us ALL! l seen him live last year ......it was STUPENDOUS!!!!! Thanks Chris!!
bass player is KILLING it
no doubt.... have to find out who that is
@@wjamyers Did you find ?
@@janotricard5559 Guy Nsangue, yes! Amazing player. Must try to remember!!
I remember when (Ponty plays the music of Frank Zappa) King Kong came out. What a way to finish up the 60's.
A friend from the Church said, "Let's go listen to Jean-Luc Ponty". I hadn't heard of him ('77). Said he'd played with Zappa; I wasn't a fan, but am so grateful I went! Small, intimate venue. Saw him twice; got an autograph on the cover of "Imaginary Voyage". Another buddy used my DDL 1/2 sp "Cosmic Voyager" & MoFi Oxygene", by Jean Michel Jarre to audition a Linn. He bought the 'table, and invited me over dozens of times for some amazing listening sessions. So, thank you, Monsieur Ponty!
Super music. Lovely to see Ponty still at it after all these years... I loved him in the 1970s...
FRANK ZAPPA IS THE BEST!
Thank you again. Watching and Listening from Alaska.

Nice how the pianist quotes from Duke’s solo at the beginning of his.
Jean-Luc’s solo shows how much he has grown since King Kong.
I went to that Zappanale and their performance was just incredible. My friends and I kept bursting into laughter because it was that good.
Mike Hovland did you happen to see a band called bogus pomp they are performing Zappaween 21 October 28th in Tampa at Skipper's Smokehouse Jerry outlaw kicks ass on the guitar
I first heard Jean-Luc Ponty one afternoon while watching "The Dinah Shore Show"!!!I'm serious!!! Also Mr. Kenny Rankin (Groovin and Blackbird Fly) and the amazing Kenny Rogers (The Gambler, and Lady! It was a special show!!!
Beautiful! Jean-Luc has never stopped moving forward and growing through out his stellar career and always delights and amazes! Fine band too, as one would expect! This must have sounded phenomenal live! And it's great that Frank's music continues to be performed and recruit new Zappa followers.
Jean-Luc you are like a fine wine that time has enhanced! What an amazing career!
A wine that was pretty damn good right, even right off the fresh grapes too... ;-)
dammit his violin sound is so pleasing
Bravo!
King Kong, Eb minor. an impossible key, right on the money. brilliant!
Thank you sooooooo much.
Mothers of the invention great concept music band
Dec. 21, 1940-2010 happy Bday to Frank , and this piece still sounds fresh... Thanx for the enjoyment ...Long Live Frank.......and captain Beefheart....Fruno
Thank you Rolf! This is like spiritual food for me.
superbe.
Sou do Brasil.
Composition from 1969! Boy, you still got it.

Thank you so much for posting this. King Kong is one of my favorite albums especially 20 Small Cigars! I am pleased to see John-Luc Ponty is still going strong. I haven't heard much about him since the 70s.
Que lindo Jean Luc
What a keyboard solo..........
@bigtone1348 he respected his music, he even did a solo album dedicated to Zappa's works, and I think that was before Zappa hired him in his band.
Dope
bad ass.......
Tausend Dank!!!!!
Rolf, way to go, 13340 viewers :) Well it's Jean-Luc .... great concert. Loved the bass-player maybe even more than JL :)
Love it!!!!
Merci monsieur je rêve de venir aux zapanale. Bedankt, veel bedankt.
IA ME ESQUECENDO. MUITO OBRIGADO SENHOR ROLFSOLVANG!
awesome - thanks for posting - jean luc, merci bien
Who are the other musicians? The keyboardist is especially good...
Yes he is!
@@irishsetterarchie in the original version was George Duke, but this guy is ok.
WoW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! What a gift it must have been to have been right there :)
Yeah this is missing that solo punch by Zappa. At least they didn’t get someone else to try and play Zappa’s solo!! Still really talented musicians
@elarboldejoshua que linda version de 20 small cigars!!
No, but I wouldn't mind eating some chicken while attending this groovy magical concert!! The 2 would go 2gedder splendidly...
Bad ass!
Hallo Rolf,
besten Dank! . TSC ist so schön wie auf der alten Scheibe,
nur JLP kann das so klasse spielen.
Who's the epianist? Great!
6:19 Did he just Rap with a Violin?
Who is it on keyboard ?
Someone mention Alan Pasqua in the comment?
Great job...pianist played the first 15 or so seconds of Duke's solo on "Kong"...I liked Ponty's playing on his jazz records and the World Pacific stuff but after that came fusion and it was just too glossy for me.
how do you go to that kind of events?
Hello ! Marvelous pieces ! When did this took place ? I still have the vinyl version of the album, bought a long, long time ago..
Thank you Mr Zappa, thank you Mr Ponty !
It was George Duke on electric piano on the original of King Kong ....on the JLP album ....not Uncle Meat the o-riginal FZ commercial recording of KK....just sayin'
Alan Pasqua
A M A Z I N G !!
:))
Who is the next generation from Ponty? Sampling from Ponty?
Jobson
Gabe Newell on drums
Zappa covers without guitar?? You can’t do that sir!
If zappa can do the stairway to heaven guitar break with his brass section I don't see why not ;-)
As FZ wrote King Kong for JLP, it is a bit of a stretch to call it a cover. And...some of FZ's best music at the end of his career were performed digitally, without any instrument.
That "20 Small Cigars" portion. FUCK
Great Music. Bad recording.
Not a place to take your average chicken.
Sausage fest all you can think of; your heads full of sausage fest?
Nice little rotten teenage combo here.
looks like a real sausage fest
. . . and. . .?
Pretty good except for the god awful EP sound. A real Rhodes or a Nord Electro is the way to go.
