Go out for a day hike with survival gear for an overnight. Always plan for the possibility of injuries and changes in weather. Most important cancel the plans if the situation changes and makes it more hazardous than your ability is suited to. She failed some or all of these standards. Never underestimate the elements folks! Especially if you're on your own. This brought to memory a friend's story when they went hiking in Mt Ruapehu (New Zealand) last spring. Clear sunny day, light winds, but it was still pretty cold especially on the snowy portions of the mountain. Halfway on their way down, my friends encountered 2 young guys on their way up (probably tourists), wearing only t-shirt and jeans, and normal rubber shoes. My friends chatted them up asked "don't you guys have jackets at least, it's pretty cold up there!", and the guys said "it's fine, it's sunny and we'll be sweating from the exertion anyway". Thinking the guys were old enough to know when to turn back if it gets too cold, my friends continued their hike downhill. About an hour later, a rescue chopper came and rescued those same two guys because they collapsed from hypothermia. Luckily for them, there were other hikers that day who helped them out. My friends could only shake their heads in disbelief.

I stated hiking with dad when I was 10 years old weed hike 10-15miles climbing 2-3k elevation. I hiked at night with no flashlights and known how to build a shelter and survive in the local wilderness. With over 20+ years of experience I won’t hike mount baldy alone. Something about that place give me the heebee jeebees. Recently lots of people have gone missing there and they were in groups. Something isn’t adding up. Particularly with heavy snow storms I’ve noticed people gone missing. As Seay away from my baldy and hike Azusa or Big bear area.

I got robbed over in baldy. So I just don't want to hike that area anymore because of that but it's so dangerous. Even when it's spring, the terrain is extremely risky

Yep. Just reading about the number of deaths on Mt. Baldy makes me feel like the hike is not worth it, especially alone and in winter.... So many other safer and beautiful nature trails/mountains (though less popular) in southern California that you can hike / summit.

Sad story. She was not the first to die on Mt Baldy nor will she be the last. I have mt biked in all the major mountain ranges in and near Los Angeles, before I leave I try to have a plan, but I can't foresee all possible problems. It seems like she also had a plan and her friends knew where she was. Sadly, it happened again.
Many unfortunate deaths have occurred in the wilderness areas around Los Angeles. From the beaches to mountains to deserts. I think being so close to a major metropolitan area as big as Los Angeles, it gives people a false sense of security. The mentality creeps in that it's not dangerous here. How can it be, there are millions of people within eyesight? We are all human and can succumb to the same mentality. Accidents can happen, if you're alone help may not arrive in time. I've been alone many times in the wilderness.
    May she rest in peace.

always bring a satellite communicator if you're ever doing anything outdoors. once you get out of cell range you're in a lot of danger.

That's a good sign, being humble enough to acknowledge lack of experience means they tend to be careful and not take trails beyond their capability. Overconfidence and lack of self awareness is the deadly opposite.
