3 things I’ve changed that has helped. When I plop for 10 minutes after styling I immediately scrunch my roots with the towel after I have put the towel on my head for plopping. I also have been air drying until there is crunch in my hair. And hover diffusing like Manes By Mel😊
When I do my hair I use a thick cream as well I find that helps a lot with clumping. I also go through my head and literally twist ringlets around my finger to give them definition. I think of it like a heatless curling iron lol.
"Ribboning" the hair with your fingers is a very good way to encourage clumps and get ringlets to twist in spirals rather than whichever wonky way they seem to want to go.
Your CGM videos are the best I’ve seen. Realistic steps, realistic time spent, realistic product recommendations. I’ve been at this for far more than a decade, basically seeing the birth of CGM. There is a lot of ridiculousness out there, you are the real deal! Thank you and keep up the great work!!
My hair takes 10 hours to air dry so I have to diffuse. I do clarify about once every 4 - 6 weeks bearing in mind I wash my hair every 5 - 7 days (I have very dry thick hair and a dry scalp). I deep condition every 2nd or 3rd wash, plus leave in conditioner, curl cream and gel. I usually wash in the evening, leave the cast in place, sleep in my bonnet and scrunch out the cast in the morning. I'm someone who hits snooze on my alarm and trying to do my hair in the morning takes forever, if I'm starting from really wet hair. I would rather refresh any area that needs it than wash in the am. Finer hair than mine (that doesn't take forever to dry) - yes it always looks best when first washed, but I had to get up around 3 hours before I left the house to wash it in the am. Your hair looked great. Best wishes.
So, I've been making the mistake of raking gel through. Good info! I had that hair dryer and I loved the diffuser but the hair dryer was too much, my hair would just fly all over the place. I had to return it because the diffuser wouldn't work with my favorite hair dryer.
I decided years ago to go with my natural curl to make my life easier and to get ready quicker! It hasn’t really turned out to be that way, at least since the CG method hit the scene! I hate the gel cast, but my hair is also fine. For me, the bigger the better, I’ll take a little frizz with that, no problem.
I have a thick head of curly hair. Low porosity and thin hair strands. I watched a few of your videos this morning. This one REALLY helped me though...I think. I'm waiting for my hair to completely dry to know for sure. Basically, the only difference between you and I, goal wise, is I want less volume. After following some of your recommendations, I was so excited with the results, that I woke my fiancé up to show her my hair...at 4:45 am. She didn't really share my enthusiasm for some reason. 🤷♂️ 😬 Edit (5 hours later): wow, what an amazing difference! ❤️ Wish I could show you the difference you made.
Hey Gena! I've been searching for someone who gets my thin, high porosity hair..and I am so glad I stumbled over your page recently. We have the EXACT same hair🥂! The smaller styling details are really helping. Your content is helping me select the right products right now. Thank you so much 🙏
Gena have you ever considered curly bangs? I think you have one of those proportionate face shapes AND hair textures it would look killer on, but can rock w/ or w/o. If only I had the forehead real estate my forehead is so tiny.
I use Cantu shampoo and conditioner, normal brush that's for detangling that looks like a wet brush and after jumping out the shower I use a small bit of miss Jessie's pillow soft curls (may it have certain ingredients yes but I'm not too hard on going by the book as long as my hair seems to like it I'm fine) and I plop my hair in an old t shirt for about 15-30 minutes and then air dry the rest!
have you ever thought of reviewing the Scrunch It barrel brush? Not finding too many videos. to me, it looks like the perfect brush for ringlets. ty for this video also :)
Gena M, you have such lovely beautiful, curly hair and you look so lovely and beautiful I just couldn't help repeating those same two words that describe so much about you. I recently got myself a brand new curly hairdo a month ago after watching your videos here and I love my new look so much, I owe it all to you. May you continue to be my inspiration and please keep your curly hair how-to videos coming. You're simply the best. 👍👏🙌😀😍❤
I've had years of using sulfates and silicones and brushing my hair dry but always thought my hair was just frizzy I decided to do research and found out nope just REALLY curly hair that was brushed to look straight.. anytime I'd add conditioner in the shower my hair would immediately separate into clumps no matter how long being treated wrong for it's hair type so I guess till I can get my hair used to being treated curly I'll deal with it being looser than it's original form aka it's 2c but some parts are 3b meaning my hair is just taking time to transition back
If your hair is just wavy, can you still use curl training? I can’t tell which direction the curls go because it’s just kind of wavy with a couple curls.
hi. my hair used to be 2c-3a and now i didn’t really take care of my hair and now it’s kinda 2a and 2b. I was wondering if you had any tips to make my hair curlier and make my hair shrink. Thanks
I think you should know that those of us with wheat allergy issues and celiacs can not use wheat protein. I've had clumps of hair fall out. It's a real issue. I'd look for one with Flax or rice protein. Just so you know this Gena.
You're the only person I've heard warn that plopping with product can remove some of it. I know for me I like to dry my hair then plop with it semi damp also I've not mastered the blow drying technique i never used one until recently and i am personally not a fan i think I'll stick with the box fan
Sometimes I don't flip my hair over because of my neck pain. You can scrunch your hair while tilting your head and get similar results. I don't have as much volume when I do it this way but you can clip your roots if you want more volume.
Good job girl I know my hair wants to coil close to my scalp but as soon as I cut my hair hopefully my curl definition gets better please go check out my UA-cam channel 🥰

I feel that if I plop my hair will just dry all crunched to my scalp also with diffusing I feel like my hair will get frizzy
Everyone’s hair is different. You have to figure out what works for you😊
Interestingly enough, I've found that using the denman brush breaks everything up and leaves me with a stringy mess.
April Carroll me too, it does not work for me.
Me too. Her hair in the video is kind of stringy too. I don’t think she has clumps...?
Same here too, Ive been looking for a way to fix that. I CANT wear my hair curly when it look worst that the thumbnail picture in the left🤦🤦
Try looking at Manes By Mell she might help. If not, then idk...
YOU CAN TAKE OUT ROWS FROM YOUR BRUSH (LOOK UP HOW TO DO IT) SO IT DOESNT SEPARATE YOUR HAIR AS MUCH AND IT WONT BE FRIZZY

Great tips!
Gabrielle Hastings yeah this works for me too

Finger coiling is amazing

Just scrunch your hair after it's dry it beaks that cast

So glad to hear! Check out the video I just posted too about techniques for low density thin hair!!
I wish I has tighter curls
same sis, same
Learn to be happy with YOUR hair. All wishing for tighter curls will do is make you unhappy.
@@annaburns5382 Thank you💓💓

Very helpful - thanks!
thank you so much! i was your 1000th like btw 😂
I had no idea you could add a handheld shower to a bathtub! How do you do that??
Can you post a video of you getting a hair cut?!? Any tips any help?
I discuss more in this video: ua-cam.com/video/FKiAm2OMRtw/v-deo.html 😊
I NEVER comb my fingers through my hair or brush it after I get out of the shower.... doesn’t curl my hair
Same here my curls never come back if I brush out of the shower 😂
So how do you keep it from getting frizzy and how do you distribute products?
Prayer hands and scrunch
Hi there I just styled my hair upside down in the shower and the top of my hair is dry like it never touched water or stylers, what am I doing wrong
How was the hold with the ouidad gel? Crunchy/drying? How did you refresh?

Your info is very useful. TFS
I don't think I would have the patience to do all those steps but it sure looks beautiful.
LOVE MY APPLE CIDAR VINEGAR rinses ❤️❤️😜
Very beautiful hair!
Thank you!!
Would this work for waves too?
Haha the top of my hair is the same curl type as yours but the bottom is type 2a,2b , 2c kinda

Hey there Gena, I have very very bad back and I can't flip my hair. Will i still get the same results if I don't flip my head?
maybe sit down in a chair and tilt ur head backward

Do you skip conditioner if you do an ACV rinse? Is it too much if you do both?
The ACV should always be followed up with a conditioner or deep conditioner mask. I always use a deep conditioner afterwards to add moisture back in
