Head Gasket Failure Diagnostic Tips and Tricks

In this video, I share some tips and tricks that I use to properly diagnose a blown head gasket or head gasket failure. In this instance the vehicle I was working on lost most of the coolant at highway speed’s in the engine overheated. When this happens the cylinder head can warp which will cause the head gasket to leak combustion gases into the coolant. It’s also important to note that a head gasket failure can also result in an external oil leak, so make sure to check that while you’re running your tests. That kind looks like a honda engine.

Good eye! It’s the j35s1 motor. In 99 GM and Honda created a deal called powertrain cross-supply Arrangement, Honda wanted diesel motors produced from GM (Isuzu) and GM got the Honda j35 for the vue. Quite strange!
