That is interesting. I guess not that surprising but heard many examples of movies doing great in one country (Star Wars in the US, Constantine in Russia), but just aren’t that popular elsewhere (like Star Wars in China).
I was eight or nine when I watched it. I remember saying out loud about the condom in Howard's wallet: "Oh, a chewing-gum !". Every one laughed around me.
I have loved this movie since I was 6, but thankfully in the UK the condom shot was censored. One of the few censorship decisions I approve of. Though I also missed out on the tounge in the cigarette lighter scene.

I absolutely loved this movie, growing up as a kid. And, still do to this day! Fun fact. Lea Thompson actually sang a couple of the songs, with her own band. And, her renditions were as good as the originals, imho. 😃

Its still a childhood fave and I still watch it every now and then :)
Personally, I thought the cheese was done better in Commando. Elements like Arnold's line delivery or the over the top explosions at the action scene towards the end made it work for me. In Howard the Duck, a lot of the attempts at humor I just didn't find funny, which unfortunately made it boring for me. That's too bad since I didn't go into this wanting to immediately hate it, and it looked like there was potential fun here. Ah well. To each his own.

Howard the duck is one of my fav movies. Thank god I have my own copy. I will say this. The whole movie is more of a comedy. Nothing was put there to disturb people. It was meant to be funny, but only few people find it funny. Like me. I think the movie was great. Now tell me this. Which movie would you rather see Sharknado or Howard the duck? And I have seen Sharknado 1 and 2. It was painful to watch them.
I "Liked" this video because I thought the review was funny, but I have to agree with you. I always thought Howard the Duck was intentionally satirical. I found the goofiness to be quite enjoyable. Plus you have to give kudos to Lea for her awesome singing... and for poking fun at the movie in an episode of "Caroline in the City." XD

@@cjwrench07 I take it you haven't read the Howard the Duck comic books. The 80's Howard the Duck movie is an unfaithful adaptation that doesn't resemble the comics it's supposed to be based on. The Howard the Duck comic books are really amazing and a film that properly adapts the Howard the Duck comics would be awesome. You're biased and close minded if you think a new Howard the Duck movie would suck because of the 80's Howard the Duck movie. Did you know Captain America has a shitty film back in the 90's? Does that mean Captain America should never have had an MCU film because of the existence of the 90's Captain America? Hmm? Considering we have characters like Rocket Racoon and Groot in the MCU films as one of the characters, why not let Howard the Duck have a chance? You're so unfair.
I loved this movie as a kid. I remember my aunt trying to explain away the monster alien scene so I wouldn’t be too afraid XD Little did she know that I snuck into the TV Room a year earlier and secretly watched Nightmare on Elm Street from behind the couch (I was six, I am a troubled soul) However, the main character was my first girl crush, even before Molly Ringwald and Jennifer Connelly. Wow, that was a trip down memory lane, all from some duck feathers. YES! GREAT MOVIE!

Howard the Duck is the kind of movie where when you're feeling suicidal it is good to watch, because you realize life isn't that bad. You could have wrote the script for the movie.

This movie has tons of problems, and only by taking objective looks at movies, can we hope they will improve. I would hate to see the MCU today, if Marvel looked at this movie, like it was some sort of masterpiece. They would still be making crap movies, like The Hulk.
This was actually much better than the idea sounds. It was a product of the times and worked if you were a youth in the 1980s. Leah Thompson in her nightie and giant hair also left a lasting impression.

Late 70s Disney sued Marvel claiming Howard looked too much like Donald. The settlement required a redesign of the character and, I would bet, a clause stating they couldn't make an animated version that would compete with Donald Duck.
I always loved when Jeffrey Jones starts to become one of the dark overlords, just a great performance, matched with excellent makeup and visual effects
They scared me the first time I saw this, the fire that came out of his eyes. So did the duck breasts (which ducks don't even have). And the wormhole Howard got sucked through, and then later finding he couldn't go back because of having to destroy 3 more monsters coming down it (right after barely surviving 1 other attacking everyone)
All of a sudden knows how to play a guitar??? Did you miss the beginning credits that had pictures of his band. Or the fact that he explains the fact that he was in a band to Lea? So yea, the context was there.
Still an awesome movie, hell even the soundtrack song by Dolbys Cube featuring Cherry bomb "don't turn away" is still a good listen . Classic 80's movie and music.
awesomeness862 A council of Priests and such, controlled the. MPAA’s classification board in the 1980s (Seriously). They gave a ton of movies, some very weird ratings. If you changed your movie blood from red to green, it could take your movie from an R to a PG.
The original comic by Steve Gerber isn't so much a comic as it is a true experience in surrealism. There is a man running around with a bell on his head who calls himself Dr. Bong. Howard runs for President. He teams up with Dracula at one point. It was a great comic and when I first heard about this movie I thought "Oh, hell." I felt INSULTED by it.
Sensei Ji True my friend, just rewatched it on the bluray release, it was AWESOME ! Good for kids and adults who don't practice intellectual masturbation ;)
one, it's the first movie that was adapted from a marvel comic. hardcore marvel fans would want to watch it. two, it's a comedy action sci fi movie. it may not be terminator action, but definitely fun. three, jeffry jones acting delivers that extra scariness factor to the movie. young lea thompson, enough said. four, you can watch this for the symbolism. the science lab = CERN. howard = angel. possessed dr. jennings = antichrist. etc etc and then there's that special 80's sci fi charm. lastly, blatant ad homin is a detriment to your cause.
Not nearly as bad as Super Mario Bros. or some of the other movies he's reviewed. This is a solid action comedy with an interesting story and top notch special FX. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but totally undeserving of the hate it received.
Mark I'm so glad you finally reviewed this movie! Can't wait to see what you will review next. I actually have a suggestion. There's a horror movie named Dark House (2014) that's pretty bad and I think you would enjoy reviewing it!
to bad we dont get to see movies like this anymore. Ghostbuster, Howard the Duck, Terminator, Mad Max all good movies. Todays movies are just full with CGI and flooded with BS. 80s movies had this special atmosphere which todays movies do not have anymore.
+alaurel81 I can't believe that you listed Ghost Busters, The Terminator and Mad Max with Howard the Duck, as if it comes anywhere near the awesomeness of those other films.
2:36 You've never rocked at one of these places. The fence isn't so no-one rushes the stage. The fence is there to protect the band from flying beer bottles and mugs the crowd would try to hit the band with.
This was a great film. Apparently people have missed the fact that the comic is rather raunchy and pretty campy. So that is exactly what the movie is, campy and raunchy. Frankly just enjoy a movie to be entertained. don't over expect a movie like this to Oscars material.
As a kid I always liked Jeffery Jones, he played a great villain. I'm sure he would have liked me as a kid too.
Ouch!
Lmao
That’s hilarious 😂
Jesus christ dude
Not if Michael Jackson 'liked' you first...

I love your music In the background XD
Please review the first straship trooper I think it's one of the best sci-fi films of all time and I think it gets a lot of unjust hate
Did anyone else laugh their ass off when Mark said "Are those duck tits?"
and that's funny because...
Spoiler, this duck will join Avengers!
Yes!! been waiting for a new vid!!
nice one mark :) keen up the great entertaining work
love your vids man keep it up :)
Lea Thompson in lingerie = great movie.
All of a sudden knows how to play a guitar???
Did you miss the beginning credits that had pictures of his band. Or the fact that he explains the fact that he was in a band to Lea? So yea, the context was there.
And I think he even has a Fender hanging on his wall in his home.
Still an awesome movie, hell even the soundtrack song by Dolbys Cube featuring Cherry bomb "don't turn away" is still a good listen . Classic 80's movie and music.
Good to see you're back!
Howard tge Duck was tge shit IDC what you say we all Dug this movie n has a cult following and brings back so many memories!
More like how GREAT is Howard the Duck! It's an 80's kid thing but I love this one...and Lea Thompson...mmmmm
I put it into the so-bad-it's-awesome category.
Lea was fine
you need more credit for you're videos man they are awesome. (from New Brunswick)
I actually like the movie thank you very much
this could have been PG-13 Fritz the cat
Everyone had a thing for her.
She's one of the most gorgeous people in the world.
Dude, Your videos are pretty relaxing..
Is it just me, or is it odd that all if these adult oriented and inappropriate jokes are in a pg movie?
The same rating as frozen
awesomeness862 A council of Priests and such, controlled the. MPAA’s classification board in the 1980s (Seriously). They gave a ton of movies, some very weird ratings.
If you changed your movie blood from red to green, it could take your movie from an R to a PG.
Yes Your back!!
**you're
***** no
The original comic by Steve Gerber isn't so much a comic as it is a true experience in surrealism. There is a man running around with a bell on his head who calls himself Dr. Bong. Howard runs for President. He teams up with Dracula at one point.
It was a great comic and when I first heard about this movie I thought "Oh, hell." I felt INSULTED by it.
This is one of my favorite movies. And I am not just saying that it actually is. I must be one of the few that actually enjoyed it.
How BAD is Howard the Duck?
it wasnt bad, it is awesome.
even todays standard, it is fuckin awesome.
Sensei Ji
True my friend, just rewatched it on the bluray release, it was AWESOME !
Good for kids and adults who don't practice intellectual masturbation ;)
Sensei Ji How is it awesome?
Victor Fatalys Yeah, I can see how the movie is enjoyable if you're brain-dead.
one, it's the first movie that was adapted from a marvel comic.
hardcore marvel fans would want to watch it.
two, it's a comedy action sci fi movie. it may not be terminator action, but definitely fun.
three, jeffry jones acting delivers that extra scariness factor to the movie.
young lea thompson, enough said.
four, you can watch this for the symbolism. the science lab = CERN. howard = angel. possessed dr. jennings = antichrist. etc etc
and then there's that special 80's sci fi charm.
lastly, blatant ad homin is a detriment to your cause.
William Jefferson
Brain dead people enjoy anything with CGIs inside, not the same public...
Not nearly as bad as Super Mario Bros. or some of the other movies he's reviewed. This is a solid action comedy with an interesting story and top notch special FX. Not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but totally undeserving of the hate it received.
Love your vids dude :)
Howard the Duck in the comics looks like Donald Duck with a cigarette
Review the Garbage Pail Kids!!
I used to love the Garbage Pail kids as a kid, I even wrote a lost episodes creepy pasta about them on yt. Review the Garbage Pail Kids!!!
I remember watching this movie and actually laughing cause it was so bad 😂💀
You were just too old when you saw it.
finally you back!!!! thanks dude :) liked before I watched
Mark I'm so glad you finally reviewed this movie! Can't wait to see what you will review next. I actually have a suggestion. There's a horror movie named Dark House (2014) that's pretty bad and I think you would enjoy reviewing it!
I love this film, the terrible script and crazy decision making make it awesome
to bad we dont get to see movies like this anymore.
+alaurel81 tbf, mad max fury road is a thing that came out and was awesome
+WiseStrife yep definitely the best mad max film
What about Guardians of the Galaxy?
alaurel81 totally agree. Howard the Duck is better than Batman V Superman.
Loved this movie! Never overthought it. Never questioned it.
