Mike, thanks for sharing your year with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Stay safe and warm. And please keep your cold weather in Canada. Headed to minus 20F with blizzard conditions later this week.
Since MAN is connected to VW, and VW's (diesels) start insanely well in the cold, so you better love how it starts because in my opinion, vw diesels are the best cold starting engines.
M A N - Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg - These trucks and their engines are as popular here in the UK/EU as Cummins would be in North America. They also build Locomotive and very Large Marine engines. Everything truck wise here is 24v for easy winter starting.
YES!!! Never mix antifreeze’s ever!!! The The older tractors require a different kind than the newer ones… if mixed, it’s a disaster inside the motor. I put the new antifreeze in an older tractor, and it turned to a gel and took the head gasket out as the water couldn’t circulate.
I have 3 deutz fahr in iceland, never ever a starting problem, i have a 7250 2019 that has the same engine as your fendt 724 and there has been no problem!!
Oil pan heater is what the duetz motor needs. Duetz motors are very very tight tolerance built and are specd to run extremely thin oil in normal Temps. That's why they crank so hard when that oil is cold.
It’s currently 6°F/-14C in Wisconsin we are expected to get down to -5°F/-20° C for night lows in a few days. That’s probably not to cold for Canadian but we don’t get that cold next to Lake Michigan like ever. Stay warm everyone.
for all the none diesel guys out there the glow pugs are threaded into the cylinder head like sparkplugs are. when they turn on the get cherry red like the heating element on your electric range in your kitchen hence the name glow plug which causes the air in the cylinders to get hot making it easy to start in cold weather.
Growing up on a dairy, stuff has to run. Many times when it gets below -50 we would leave stuff run over night till the cold snap was over. Coldest I’ve been in is -66C.
haha I love hearing you about the deutz engine.. I'm helping here in the netherland on a farm of a colleague farmer, and not only does i have to drive a tractor with a deutz engine, the whole tractor is a deutz.. damm that's even terribeller. hahaha
Mike I feel your pain. Things definitely are a challenge when it’s cold. This week we’re going to have high temperatures in the single digits fahrenheit.
I’ve had my 724 since 2018 and a 724 SCR for 5 years before that and never had issues with cold starts. Not one time. I have changed two DEF pumps on the S4 but other than that no issues.
@@mikemitchell2554 never had below minus 23 C. But here in Norway I ordered something listed as the winterpackage on the 700s. Included a heating element on the DEF system. And a webasto, and the engine warmer. Wich I never used though. But I’m sure tractors sold in North America have the winterpackage as well.
I also have a 724 s4 and have never had cold start or def issues, and started it as low as -22 C in the cold. I'm always wondering why Mike has so many issues with his. And I'm from Canada Alberta so I know all about the cold. Most people I talk to have only good to say about Deutz engines cold starting capabilities.
@@leussinkfarms I have the same experience. We’ve had Deutz engines on this farm since the 70s although the air cooled engines started if you looked at them funny 😄 that said Deutz engines are known for their excellent cold weather starting capabilities. At least here in Norway.
Couple differing types of coolant nowadays... regular prestone (green), some purple stuff (I forget what it is, Bobcat uses it), OAT coolant (yellow), special orange (Ford uses it), and I think there's a red color one too but don't remember what its properties are...NONE can be mixed together or will have a very bad day. All thanks to mostly, you guessed it, emissions!!! Some of the newer coolants do have better wear protections, but that $$$ is nuts. I miss the $5 jug of full concentrate antifreeze.
We forgot a Bobcat in a field for 2 months, I dropped the headliner and found 7 of your favorite animals in it Mike! Lol. They had the entire front between the speakers full of soybeans (T770). Spent an entire day stripping the cab, washing everything down with citral to kill the smell, and waiting for a new headliner to put it back together.
I hear from other farmers how awful a cold starter the Duetz engines are plus endless emission problems. But that MAN engine is amazing! To bad they didn’t all have MAN engines. Must be a pain in the back side with all kinds of different engines in the Fendts,
MAN engine !! Fendt returns to MAN engines after years, Deutz engines were not a good part of Fendt tractors, despite low fuel consumption. Engine oil is also very important. 15w40 at such low temperatures is destructive for the system. Regards from Europe.
Had one of my tractors at a funeral yesterday -11C time to drive it home wouldn't start. Bring over the truck and jumper cables and fired off after 4 seconds of cranking those single big tractor batteries just can't provide enough power to sling a diesel engine over in the cold fast enough to start. I here the new 7 series fendt has a 7.5l agco engine wonder if that is any better.
Performing cold start tests as a job, this is quite impressive if it has been in the cold that long and after such a low initial temperature. Almost hard to believe imho. Too any times, I have seen failing batteries, paraffinated fuel lines and filters after such temperature soaks. Other failures are underperforming starter engines due to power, power line size,.... Smart to not start it up below let's say -20°C as your hydraulic pump(s) will suffer and might get damaged. I wouldn't have driven away that soon
Fendt’s always start in the cold. I’ve never plug any in, in fact the last two 700 gen 6’s I bought didn’t have cold start packages which worried me but dealer service said it’s not necessary.
A guy around me with fendts has lots of trouble with them in the cold. Maybe when you go down where it’s warm in like Ohio it’s not bad, but in Canada they aren’t great
@@etrain757 I'm east coast USA and yesterday morning it was 6 degrees Fahrenheit and my Fendt 724 (not plugged in) started on the first try. So did my 828, two 939 and 942 which I warmed just to make sure the batteries hadn't gone down. My other Fendt's sit in a heated building. The 724 worked half the day feeding cattle and it was flawless in the extreme cold we have here now.
Read the label and compare the base ingredients - if the chemicals match ethylene Glycol is Ethylene Glycol. The trace ingredients should not matter. Green or Orange dye in the coolant shouldn't matter, other than looking strange in the tank. And a tipoff for a warranty claim denial.
if im correct you sayed that belarus is with bad starter in winter and i can say where i live in latvia,we hawe i a lot of belarus tractors, and where i work,we hawe 2 belarus tractors, onw from 2007,and its starts great ,-20 also for more thatn a week hawent run,and almoust like your started right away, the bigger model,1221.3 it has bigger engine, its starts little worse but its starts too, mybe 200+horse power tractors starts worse,i dont know but in range of 95to135 what we hawe its starts good, and here in latvia we hawe spoken to other who has this type of tractors ,and yea its good,of course you need a good batterys and good glow plugs and all will be good ,so its not so bad that you think
You could probably buy a solid used John Deere wheel loader cheaper than a plow attachment for the Fendt. Then you’d have a lifting machine for other tasks at the N farm.
