I'm just setting up one of these on a 45 Gallon tank that is a temporary tank. My 90 gallon is leaking. It takes a little less than a Gallon of water. Anything above a 75 gallon you can use RO/DI water if you don't have any saltwater made up. I used a 3/4" PVC Street "L" for the return. I used a Foam Filter Sock from a Penguin Sponge Prefilter Kit. I gently forced the Sock Support Diffuser into the big end of the PVC Street "L" and put the Filter Sock over that. This is for the micro- bubbles being returned to the tank. I highly recommended putting the Skimmer Drain tube into the tank for the first 24 to 48 Hours, till everything settles down. Also I used a 14 gauge extension cord plugged into a GFI and plugged the pump into that so I could quickly power the pump off, when doing an initial set-up. Yes the Cup came close to overflowing during my first few starts. I'm going to look for a smaller tighter "L" as I cannot get my glass top all the way back. With it Dialed all the way down I was getting Clear Foam in the Cup center tube, it would rise about 3/4 the way up then collapse. Now the Foam is steady at the bottom of Cups center tube.
I just set mine up and the cup keeps filling with water slowly. But I feel like I cant walk away or it will cause a minor flood over a few hours. Advice?
I cant get my water level to go down in the chamber. The bubbles start half way up the chamber tube! I have the water level red knob as low of setting as it goes. Any input? Anyone? Thanks
which is better sponge completely submerged or and i lost instructions i have 125 the inch or 1/2 inch below or above water line....and those are guesses from what i thought it read. just plain confused. its going to hang and not using it as sump, hope that helps get me answers.....thnxs
These skimmers are unreliable, Prone to leaking, causing floods, hard to adjust etc. Get an aqua c remora. MUCH higher quality skimmer...and you can remove the cup and clean it without turning it off.

Correction, the PVC Street "L" is 1" not 3/4"
