I have seen sooo many different videos of different subjects in many countries but this one tops them all. Thank you so much. I'm sure their buses has luggage compartments. I like the Akrotiri route. I love your channel! The information is so helpful and I really like how you show the "not so good". I will be in Santorini at the end of March and thanks to your videos I think I have most things figured out. One thing I am still trying to figure out is how to get to the Santorini airport on the morning that we depart. We are staying in a hotel in Firs but our flight leaves at 6:00am. If I am reading the bus schedule correctly, it doesn't seem that I can take a bus at that hour because there isn't one ☹️. So I have to rent a car. That's ok because I was planning on doing that for part of my stay. But please tell me if I am right about that. Thanks for all you are doing to help out all of us travelers.
Hi Jacqueline ! Thx for your kind words. Yes indeed, renting a car or taking a cab are your 2 only options. Buses and shared transfers dont operate at 4am :-)
My wife and I will be in Santorini next week and we can't wait! Do the buses usually fill up to max capacity around this time of the month (particularly for the Fira-Oia and Fira-Imerovigli/Firostefani route)? I'm worried that since the bus seats are taken on a first come first served basis, we will waste time by having to wait for a later bus on the schedule.
@@GreeceExplained Thanks for the tip! For the Fira-Oia route, how long in advance should I start queueing to get a seat on the bus? Really appreciate all the content you're putting out 🙏
I will add that you buy tickets from the driver either before entry or during the transit an assistant will come take your money. You usually don't need exact change, but just had an experience where the driver was demanding exact change.
Very nice and detailed video, bravo !!! one small question , people using cruises like MSC for example dock in the port mentioned or any other port in particular ? TIA
If you book a tour through the cruise company, you'll be brought to Athinios Port (the one in the video). If you dont book anything, you're brought to the "Old Port", with NO ROAD ACCESS. I'm working on a video detailing everything cruisers need to know, so keep an eye out for it ;-)
Hi, this was very helpful and just subscribed. it would be great if you can do a comparison to how much taxi could potentially cost and/or how to find a taxi on the island
Hi ! Great suggestion, I'll post a video about taxis later in 2022 ! For now, my main advice is to never go up to a random taxi and ask for a ride. That would nearly always be the most expensive option. What I would recommend, is that you ask your HOTEL to organize all the necessary transfers. It's more reliable, you never have to wait, and you're sure you're not getting ripped off because hotels wouldn't want their own customers to feel flawed. Concerning prices : - transfers to/from the airport and the ferry port will be around 40-50€. - "average sized" rides, like Fira - Oia (20min) will be 30-40€. - short rides, like Fira - Imerovigli (10min) will be 15-25€. There you go ! Let me know if you have other questions ! :-) Sebastian
I just subscribed and I am really enjoying all your videos. Great work. You mentioned in this video Tasos Taverna. We were there 6 years ago and enjoyed the food there but heard it was closed . Do you know if that is true ? Thank you and have a nice day!!!
@@GreeceExplained Sebastian, please help me. This would be my first time in Santorini. Why do I keep finding internet pages that say that Fira to Oia buses stop at Firostefani & Imerovigli? Can we perhaps request that these buses stop there?
@@GreeceExplained Ah i just found your reply to another comment, saying that it stops at Imerovigli but at A DIFFERENT BUS STOP. However, this doesn't help me 😞, as I will stay in Firostefani with heavy luggage. Is there any way Fira to Oia buses will stop at Firostefani? Can we request the bus to stop?
@@dr.andreaslaurencius-unive9837 Any website that says that is outdated by at least 5 years. The Fira-Oia bus line does NOT stop in Firostefani & Imerovigli.
Thanks for all this very useful information, your channel is great and I'm doing a marathon watching them. I need to make a final decision. I was thinking of staying in Pyrgos, but due to the frequency of the buses I have my doubts now :( . just to get an idea. How early could I get a bus from Pyrgos to Fira? . I will stay there between 3 to 6 Oct.
For now its 6:45am then 8am, but I cant promise that by October it will still be the same. You can keep on eye on the timetables (link in the description box of this video). You want to look at the Perissa => Fira line, and add 15-20min to the departure time in Perissa.
@@GreeceExplained Sorry for this question, but do you know of any other channel that offers as accurate and good information about Milos and Naxos as you do with Santorini?
Thank you so much for your video. This is very informative. We are coming to Santorini late October. Would the bus run less frequently in late October? Would any bus line stop running? Thanks.
Buses will stop running earlier, yes. You can follow up the latest updated timetables here : www.ktel-santorini.gr/images/pdfs/ktel.pdf Every time there's a new version, this link is automatically updated.
Very well explained. Thanks! To go from Oia to Imerovigli, do I have to change to the Fira-Imerovigli bus at Fira? Or can I remain on the bus as it’ll stop at Imerovigli on the way back to Oia?
Excellent work Sebastian..quick question..Should we buy tickets each time, if we hop on and hop off in intermediate stops? Example, in the route to Perissa , we would like to get down at Santo wines and piragos...
If I want to travel from Perissa to fira to spend the day there and then get a later bus back to Perissa is that ok ? What cost ? Thank you Sebastian 👍🏻
Hi Sebastian. Thank you for your great videos. They have been really helpful and informative. We are staying in Akrotiri in the latter part of May, early June. Judging by what you said about the bus, if we wanted to spend an evening in Megalochori, Fira or Imerovigli, then we can’t rely on a bus and would need to hire a car or use a taxi for return journey?
Correct ! But who knows, maybe this year Akrotiri buses will run later in the night. Keep checking this link for the updated timetables : www.ktel-santorini.gr/images/pdfs/ktel.pdf
Thank you for your reply. Can I ask another thing. I am assuming when the bus gets to the end of the line, Akrotiri especially, it does the same journey in reverse. If so, does that mean I could get off at Megalochori or Pyrgos? Or would I need to go all the way to Fira, also could I catch the bus from Pyrgos back to Akrotiri on its journey. If I’m making myself clear. Thanks you.
@@darrenmould5969 Correct, the bus takes the same route on the way back. So it goes through Megalochori indeed. For Pyrgos, you can ask to be dropped off at "Santo Wines", and from there its a 10min walk.
@@GreeceExplained That’s great. Thank you again for your advice. And thank you for taking the time to reply, not just to me but others too. Quite a few interesting questions from other people too. Thanks again. A coffee is on its way. ☕️
Hy there, thank you for the useful infos provided in your videos! What about april? Are there buses leaving the port to Thira with every ferry arriving? I am arriving from Crete on 3rd of april and on the bus company schedule i see there are buses just at noon!
Hi ! There are buses from Fira to the ferry port for EVERY ferry arrival / departure, even at night. At 6:19 in the video, I explain where you can find those times. They're not online, only handwritten at Fira's bus terminal, coz it changes every day based on which ferries are coming.
@@GreeceExplained Thank you a bunch for the infos. I watched the video 2 times but 3rd of april beeing kind of borderline out of season i wasn't sure!Good luck with the channel!Fantastic infos, i watched them almost all :)))
I wish to know WHY you did not rank Imerovigli as tops? If there is a bus going to and from Fira … it seems like a great place to stay. (It is my choice for June 2024 because of the view, without the “wires” showing as they do in hotels closer to Fira.
Hello ! Two reasons : 1. There's only 1 bus per hour to Fira. 2. The bus stop with the direct connection to Oia is located 20-25min on foot from the actual town.
Okay… I got it! (Looked on google maps!) THANKS for this important info! It will be pretty easy to walk from Avocado Restaurant (my hotel is close by) to the bus stop going to Fira. I see that the DIRECT TO OIA bus stop is much further! Therefore, whenever I want to go to Oia, I go to Fira first, and transfer to Oia bus. I will be there the FIRST WEEK OF JUNE. (I pray the Fira bus station is not a crowded nightmare!) Your videos are wonderful. If I don’t go on Instagram is there any way to see your tours? Also, I will take your suggestion and bus to Oia, then hike back to Imerovigli. However, I like that there is a bus stop right where the hike meets the highway, so if I’m tired I could wait for bus…. but as you say, it might not stop if full. QUESTION: That “road side” bus stops every hour… or less??? Thank you for all your great info!

Hi Sebastian! thanks for your helpful video. I'd really appreciate if you can guide me on how to go from Apeiron Blue hotel to Akrotiri and from Apeiron Blue hotel to Oia? thanks a lot in advance! I'm wondering if is there a middle point of bus stop near the hotel 😁
You're in luck. There's a bus stop exactly in front of your hotel. On your side of the street, its to go to Akrotiri and Perissa (both lines are passing). On the opposite side, it's to go to Fira. That's where you have to go and switch buses to Oia. Hope this helps ! In case you wanna support my channel, here's a link to make a one time donation : www.buymeacoffee.com/greeceexplained
Hello Sebastian, this bus video is just so helpful! Thank you! I have one question though, if my hotel is in between of two bus stops, so can i yell, stop, in between? Or the bus only stop for the official bus stop ? Thank you.
The bus will only stop at the official stops. But my video doesnt list ALL exising bus stops, there are a few intermediary ones I didnt mention. What I would do is : as you're buying your ticket on the bus, show a map of where your hotel is, and ask the guy which bus stop is the nearest. Dont just give him the name of the hotel, he wont know it. Show a map.
Hey Sebastian! Thank you so much for detailed explanations. I've made notes which are so helpful for our travel planning! I was just wondering, do we have to pay for the bus ticket for our 3 year old son or does he ride for free? Not sure if i missed this info in one of your videos. Also, does the Perissa line travel back through the same stops when going back to Fira? For example, after Megalochori, we would like to travel to Pyrgos and look around before going back to Fira. What would you advice? Thank you so much and looking forward to your reply! Regards, Samantha :)
No you wont have to pay for your 3yo. Yes its the same stops on the way back. Mind that the Perissa EXPRESS doesnt stop at Pyrgos. So when hopping on the bus in Perissa, make sure to ask the ticket seller if you're stopping in Pyrgos.
@@gimnazjumqqq9705 Every bus line I talk about go BOTH WAYS. So yes you can go directly from Pyrgos to Fira by using the bus which is doing Perissa => Fira.
Hi Sebastian, thanks for all the amazing videos from Santorini, I am actually making my itenerary based on your videos. One question - I have a flight from Santorini at 7:15 am in the morning. Can you tell me if I can get a bus from Fira accordingly or should I try to arrange a taxi?
Hello Sebastian how are you? your videos are excellent. Is this link that you attached with the pdf with the bus schedules already updated for the year 2023? thanks lincoln
@@GreeceExplained Thanks for the answers. In the month of May do they offer more buses? My flight arrives at 11:55 am. By the pdf, the next pdf is 02:10 pm. long time to wait.
Hey Sabastian. Question. If we do the Fira to Oia hike on afternoon/evening and then want to take the bus back from Oia to the Tasos Tavern stop on the Oia line, can we just stay on the bus from Oia through Fira and then get off at Tasos Tavern when its on its way back to Oia again. Would we need to pay 2 fares for this? One from Oia to Fira and another to get of at the tavern stop from Fira? Thanks
Hey Matt thx for your question. Yes you'll have to pay another ticket, coz it's almost certainly gonna be another bus going to Tasos, than the one you took in Oia. So 2 x 1.60€pp. Enjoy the hike !!
Hi! Does anyone know how taxis work in Santorini? We are going end of this week. We are taking public transports during the day but night time, we figured that we will require taxis. We are staying in Vothonos but I assume we may need taxi from likely Oia or Fira to get back at night. Just to budget, we wanted to know the prices for taxis and if they accept card or its just cash?
Hi I would ask you about old port i will go there with cruise is there is taxi or bus i can get to oia? Because I didn’t make reservations for cruise tour
Hi Sebastian! We will arrive in Santorini at Saturday, but our plane gets there at 22:30. I gathered that 23:10 but will get us to Fira no problem. But we're staying in Kamari hotel. In the official Timetable there is 24:00 -> 24:15 bus. Can we count on that bus? Or it is possible it won't go and we will be stuck in Fira? Thanks for the video(s), they are awesome.
Does the express line to Perissa make the same stops on the way back to Fira? For example, if we want to get off at Santo Wines, will there eventually be a bus returning to Fira that stops at Santo Wines?
Hello again Sebastian. How many buses are there per schedule from Athinios Port to Fira and back? There are so many passengers taking a bus so it's worrisome. I know there are a lot of transfer services at the port and I don't know about at the bus station in Fira, but their prices are outrageously high like over $40 per person.
@@GreeceExplained Thank you so much Sebastian. After watching so many videos about those chaotic ferry trips especially going up the ramp with suitcases, we decided we will just stay in Heraklion extra nights for our base, travel to Santorini with just a small backpack stay overnight there and back to Santorini. Great video!! Thanks!!
Excellent channel and perfect timing 👌🏻 what would you say the travel time is from finikia to Fira, especially the first buses of the morning?
Hey Ariana ! I'd say 45-50min :-)
I'm working on a video detailing everything cruisers need to know, so keep an eye out for it ;-)
@@GreeceExplained Wow , thanks indeed !!
How helpful thank you 🙏🏽 I will reach out and contact you for your tours
Woo thanks you are great 👍

Concerning prices :
- transfers to/from the airport and the ferry port will be around 40-50€.
- "average sized" rides, like Fira - Oia (20min) will be 30-40€.
- short rides, like Fira - Imerovigli (10min) will be 15-25€.
There you go ! Let me know if you have other questions ! :-)
Sebastian
So nice
Thank you, nice video! Can you take a suitcase on the busses or you recommend a car/taxi?
Yes you can have a suitcase if you travel by bus, but it has to stay in the trunk of the bus, you can't take it on board.
Thanks for all the informative videos! Any tips for scooter (Vespa type) rentals on Santorini? Thanks.
I just subscribed and I am really enjoying all your videos. Great work. You mentioned in this video Tasos Taverna. We were there 6 years ago and enjoyed the food there but heard it was closed . Do you know if that is true ? Thank you and have a nice day!!!
Hey Rudy ! Indeed, they're permanently closed ...
Just saw it opened !! Looks like they decided to start the season a little late ;-)
Great video! Does the Fira-Oia bus stop at Firostefani? Thank you!
Nope
@@GreeceExplained Thank you so much. God bless you.
@@paolabarjas Hi Paola ! No sorry, it doesnt exist for now :-)
Thank you for the detailed explanations, however are there taxis as well?
Thank you so much for your video. This is very informative. We are coming to Santorini late October. Would the bus run less frequently in late October? Would any bus line stop running? Thanks.
Buses will stop running earlier, yes. You can follow up the latest updated timetables here : www.ktel-santorini.gr/images/pdfs/ktel.pdf
Every time there's a new version, this link is automatically updated.
Very well explained. Thanks! To go from Oia to Imerovigli, do I have to change to the Fira-Imerovigli bus at Fira? Or can I remain on the bus as it’ll stop at Imerovigli on the way back to Oia?
Better switch buses. Coz the Oia line stops 20min away from the actual town of Imerovigli !
Great video! We are arriving on a cruise on a Sunday. Will the bus schedule be a normal schedule or limited?
Normal
Excellent work Sebastian..quick question..Should we buy tickets each time, if we hop on and hop off in intermediate stops? Example, in the route to Perissa , we would like to get down at Santo wines and piragos...
Thank you ! And yes you will have to buy a ticket for each time.
For the Oia Line i realised that there are buses that stop at Baxedes beach too.
Great video! If I want to get from Fira to Pyrgos, how often does that bus run, and how long is the trip?
That's the Perissa line (not express). It's once per hour and from Fira to Pyrgos you can count 15-20min.
If I want to travel from Perissa to fira to spend the day there and then get a later bus back to Perissa is that ok ? What cost ? Thank you Sebastian 👍🏻
Yes good plan ! Its 2,20€pp one way
Hi Sebastian.
Hello ! Two reasons :

You're in luck. There's a bus stop exactly in front of your hotel. On your side of the street, its to go to Akrotiri and Perissa (both lines are passing). On the opposite side, it's to go to Fira. That's where you have to go and switch buses to Oia.

Show a map.
